Wait, why do they think it's this random boy? Why does he care that L appears? He's a non-entity. Ignore him. There's absolutely no way Light can be tied to these deaths around the world. I don't understand any of this.
Basically because the names of the obscure criminals killed in Japan were planted in the Seattle police database or something, which means whoever is “doing” the killings is getting names from there and Light theoretically has access through his dad BUT that also makes no sense he’s killing people with a magic book haha
@@Drjordanbreeding In the original source material, given how criminals were killed based on information only available to the police, the Japanese FBI (Public Security Bureau, yes they're real) locked the info down in cooperation with Interpol. Suspected criminals were arrested secretly and placed in witness protection, yet Light killed them anyway. This clued L into realizing the killer only needs a name and a face. As the first killings started where Light's father was the superintendent, he was not told the info is confidential and by allowing access L figured it has to be the Yagami household. Based on scheduling, murders never occurred during school hours; therefore the perp had to be an adolescent. His sister exhibited no behavior arousing suspicion. A death row inmate agreed to play the role of the fictitious Lind L. Taylor who L claimed to be in exchange for clemency. L immediately killed him and he thought he won. Except he fell into a psychological trap because the transmission wasn't global but Japan only and meant to be broadcast region by region. By killing the unrelated inmate, Light revealed he is in fact and is, in fact, killing people by simple knowing their names and faces. That evokes mad respect out of Ryuk. Killing the FBI agents was also a psychological trap while taking the subway he disguised his voice on the phone and told his tail he kidnapped his girlfriend and will kill her if he doesn't write their names down. Unknown to the FBI agent the page he is writing on was a Death Note page. Light figured it rapidly that the 7 days rule is valid for the book as well. So you can tear up as many pages as you as long as it returns within 7 days to retain ownership, and no, others writing in it has no use. The point where Light was the smart had my head spinning for quite a while. After his source material girlfriend got busted and her clumsiness tied him to Light, the arrested teen had no idea why he was detained. For a long time, I was thinking is he this good at faking not to remember anything about Death Notes, or Ryuk, until Ryuk showed up at another guy to continue the killings. When he got caught and Light got the book back, it was revealed he swapped death gods with his partner, and her death god stayed with him with the captured Death Note. A piece of the original book tied his ownership to the Death Note albeit not remembering. Eventually the other death god sacrificed himself to kill L and that episode was... bad.
