    My wife swapped her Mini Cooper (2004 model) for a Defender 5 years ago.....she's absolutely loves it and has never looked back. I love driving it too (when I can prise the keys off her)
    Sure it's not fast, it's bouncy, and unrefined. But so much fun to drive! I also have a lotus Elise, Porsche and a Ferrari Mondial t but often I will still take the Defender given the choice.

    Can't beat a landrover defender original. Three vehicles in one and built like a tank
    Love em'.

    well depends for what do you intend to use it or for how long and where ... I mean toyotas are great however the new versions you need those eletronic modules besides only the defender chassis may get rusted and to maintain it free from corrosion even in harsh evironments for long periods is quite easy

  • @G1NZOU
    @G1NZOU 14 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @MilitantOldLady Will do, only thing I really need to remember is to check underneath to see the condition of the ladder frame, dents in the bodywork are fine (it's the only vehicle that still looks good dented.) but I don't want any rust underneath.
    Last week I was in Snodonia on holiday and saw loads of these, gave me something to admire on the road.

    My personal favourite and probably the best 4x4 by far :) But only 2 things concern me than others. Expensive to mantain,and deep down you now it hasn't got the reliabilty of a toyota :(

    i've always wondered how a 4-cylinder diesel weighing more than 2 tons can even go up the smallest incline the engine has 122 hp!!! a toyota corolla has 130 and torque is not high enough to compensate

    I have never understood the 'car gurus' who tell us that a Defender is rubbisch on the road. It isn't. It drives very well on the road.

  • @leonardomoses

    you can import into america any model before 1997, the reason is because of emissions standards.

  • @DutchMasterStatus

    That was the most epic Land Rover commercial ever, and Land Rover didn't even have to make it.

  • @leonardomoses
    @leonardomoses 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    they were sold new in the US by land rover but with a V8 in them, unfortunately they are still very expensive second hand. around $35,000 with 75,000 miles on them for a 1997 model.

  • @MilitantOldLady
    @MilitantOldLady 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @00eldiablo00
    it has a 2L diesel engine, so it consumes just a tiny bit more than a family car because it has to fight its own mass and aerodynamics, but the monthly fuel bills are not much more than your run of the mill family car...im not keeping track of the mpg, but the fuel bill is no more than 40£ a month...depending on the configuration, you can comfortably seat up to 6 people i find, if you put benches in the back

  • @MilitantOldLady
    @MilitantOldLady 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @G1NZOU
    they're not hard to find and they are cheap aswell...just poke arround in used car sections in newspapers or magazines

  • @kingsmountainview
    @kingsmountainview 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @MilitantOldLady I take it you're in Britain. Defenders are much more expensive State-side. The thing is only a few thousand were ever made to US-spec, and they were all 3.9l V8s. I recently saw a '94 110 wagon at a dealer, they were asking $38,500 for it. That's £24,000, you can buy a brand new one over there for that.

  • @SuperSlashrocker

    1 thing wrong with this video.......land rover defenders aren't that tough, they break down real easy, but still an amazing 4x4.

  • @DutchMasterStatus
    @DutchMasterStatus 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @petbedding01 Is that sarcasm? A Ford Transit is a tall awkward work van that doesn't go very fast. Either way, the gearing is totally designed for low end torque, not high end speed.

  • @leonardomoses

    @pastorniels 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @friendlyuser1. For a man who is that much into off-roading you sure don't know much about Land Rovers. They are manufactured in Solihull near Birmingham in ENGLAND! Just like they always have been. And if you do not think they impress, it is because you never been futher out than a rather smooth gravelroad. But i guess that what you yanks do. You think you are off-roading when you leave the interstate highway.

    I'm not American but I assumed you were after having read the phrase "who cares". I always thought that was an Americanism seeing as it's suitably vague and vacuous.
    "who cares?" went the rhetorical assertion.
    "I do, obviously, wouldn't have said anything otherwise. Now maybe you have a case for me not to care?" replied the sentient being.
    ... You get the idea. Anyhoo, I was merely responding to the fat hairy lad (whom I adore greatly :) and his humourous musings on nuclear hellscapes.

    I found out how to get Defenders (including diesel models that get x2 the fuel economy) available in America!!! Step 1: Register to vote. Step 2: Vote for Ron Paul who would then deregulate the market, thereby getting rid of regulation requirements on airbags. Step 3: Once he deregulated the markets, go on down to your local Land Rover dealership and say, "I'd like to buy a Defender please."

    When did he ever say that? It's not like they're hiding the tyres or roof rack. Also when in this vid did the tyres make any difference? A standard one would clear anything in that sequence anyway so what are you whinging about?

    @nathaniel1712 i hav done this with my landcruiser 70series v6 i have beaten a defender many times, i was mad about defenders when i was kid & even now i love defenders but the fact is landcruiser is the best, after landcruiser i will choose a landrover,

  • @MilitantOldLady

    you dont need a lottery to buy one...mine was 9000 quid...the bloke i got it from completely overhauled his 1993 model...if i were cocky i'd call it custom
    all you need to get one is the balls to go for a defender and not a golf

First car too, 0 no claims too, you just got to shop about to get a good price. 2k is alot but that's the price everyone new driver is paying these days. they wanted £2300 for my saxo and after that quote I got rid and got my Landy. Well worth it!

    to me it isnt really bad...i've had cars that would not go below 10L *caughAlfacaugh* ....but you have to look at the average income from country to country...40£ just isnt that bad here....if you really want to save money, just have an LPG (liquid petrolium gas) kit fitted...that will just about half the bills

    I can assure you I am not american. You said you aren't American either So why are you worrying about the American crash test results? The British crash test results are the only ones of importance, that is provided you are British of course. Besides, I wouldn't take any of their test seriously when tested on anything but American cars. British made vehicles have always been to a specific standard, general speaking, American cars have not. Or rather they have been to a different standard.

    I'm wondering, I come across a lot Defender with Auto transmission rather than manual transmission. I would definitely go for a stick shift rather than auto. But, what do you guys think? Should I go for a stick or auto?

    • @diyguy497
      @diyguy497 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      manual

    • @matthewkeith8605
      @matthewkeith8605 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Only the US NAS Defender was made with an auto, any other Defender will have been converted... So who did the conversion and how well?
      Maybe stick to manual, it's truck like so needs to be shifted fairly slowly but so long as you change gear like your driving instructor is sitting beside you it'll be fine.

    • @diyguy497
      @diyguy497 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Matthew Keith owning one myself the gearbox isn't the problem its more the clutch which gets you. Its hard to keep the clutch down in traffic and I often slip it into neutral. I believe there are kits to change the strength of the spring on the clutch pedal. Also the kit to convert the defenders cost about £2500.
