    Well done Land Rover well done. My mom owns a 2016 Disco4 SDV6 and it off-roads like a beast.😎 I am watching from the beautiful country of Namibia 🇳🇦

    Love my Disco 4. Not a 4x4er and taken it in the dunes, up some scary trails... the terrain response modes just work.

    Great review fella's. I personally own and drive a D1 :) whilst my beautiful wife adores her D3. As you said, its your view and personal choice at the end. 'Go tha Mighty Disco'!!! Cheers for sharing.

    Very nice video...its no use having the camera in the car when the is doing the obstacles. this is what the viewer wants to see especially the part when the passenger stepped out to guid the driver through that heavy obstacle.

    A good review. At least you are putting the vehicle through a bit more "challenging" terrain than a lot of other reviews out there, and your commentary is unbiased and very realistic. I do agree with some other comments though - you need some more external footage when tackling the really rough stuff so that people can see exactly what the vehicle is doing. Your comments on the gearbox are interesting. I have the earlier Discovery 4 with the 2.7 diesel and the 6 speed auto transmission (with a gear lever). Have never had any issues with this transmission - and must admit, I'm not a fan of the newer "gear knob" and flappy paddles on the steering wheel.

      +BMAustralia1 thanks very much for the comment. We've had a request before for more external shots so some of our more recent reviews (Ford Ranger, Suzuki Jimny for eg) feature a lot more of that.

    regarding Jeep, you might want to checkout the "moose tests" performed in Sweden.

      @NickHodgson42 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed those moose tests are crazy! Particularly with the new Toyota Hilux...

      Hee hee hee, who’d drive a Jeep anyway or any American car for that matter? You can’t compare a Jeep and a Landrover.

      Will do. Some of our more recent stuff has lots more external shots of what we're going over. Thanks for the comment.

    Also , I'd love to hear about your "interesting" experience with a used Land Rover. I'm looking into buying one.

    • @NickHodgson42
      @NickHodgson42 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +ScoobyFermentation Well to be honest I bought myself a bit of a lemon. as I was slightly naive and didn't get the car checked over by a specialist and instead jumped at the low price and mileage on the clock. As a result I had to recondition the rear diff, gearbox and drive shaft, all due to the car not being looked after properly over its life. I also had an electronic gremlin that never quite went away whereby there'd be a slight dip in current and that would make the computer freak out thinking that there was a gearbox problem and consequently put the car into a "get me home safe limp mode". All I had to do was turn the car off and restart to fix the problem, but it was still annoying while on the highway or out in the rough stuff! On the plus side though the car was incredible for the total price paid, both from a practicality point of view and off-roading. It was almost as good as the 4 and did the exact course you see here with almost the same amount of ease. If you're looking to get one, go into it with eyes open, older Land Rovers do require proper maintenance to keep them in top condition and I'd try get one from an existing enthusiast who's fixed anything that's gone wrong rather than some guy who hasn't bothered. Look after her though and she'll look after you.

    An interesting video, but nothing really difficult in the terrain. My 1989 Range Rover 5 spd manual could do that with ease!

    9:03 Did you say lil Disco? The Discovery is the biggest SUV in the world. Never use the word little and Land Rover in the same sentence ever again.

    I guess the Grand Cherokee would handle it nearly the same.. Of course the jeep is bigger and heavier.. But also quite good... The Navisystem in the Disco sucks.. I still cant decide whats my next car 😂

    • @ThatOtherMotoringShow
      @ThatOtherMotoringShow  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes it will, just make sure to get the one with the proper mechanical diff. Don't quote me on this but i'm pretty sure the Jeep comes in two different versions, one with a fancy TC system and one with that plus the proper mechanical diff. We tested the version with just the TC system and it worked but by the end of the course our brakes were on fire and we could smell clutch and things!

      Although bot car are similar as dimensions (4.82 m ) Disco is way heavier. It weighs nearly 2.6 tons while Grand Cherokee is "only" a bit under 2.3 tons
      BizNews Motoring
      Jeep systems are Quadra Track and Quadra Drive
      The Quadra Track is the one with TC, Quadra Drive is basically based on Quadra Track with added LSD on the rear axle... but I'm pretty sure it is electronically controlled not mechanical

      Bought my 2016 Disco4 last year - the latest SatNav maps for the Disco4 are dated 2020 - I use Waze on my iPhone on a mag-mount by the steering wheel. 👍

    Get a Jeep Wrangler Jk for less money there are tone of upgrade parts on the market when you decided to do extremely rock crawling 😊.

    • @ThatOtherMotoringShow
      @ThatOtherMotoringShow  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed the Wrangler is suited for more intense offroading. But it doesn't come close on comfort or everyday practicality.

  • @BenzinioB
    @BenzinioB 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The only problem is that bot cars Land Rover Discovery and Jeep Grand Cherokee have pretty bad record as quite unreliable... I wouldn't trust non of them for journey in the bush :)
    And Mercedes G-wagon is the most capable luxury off-roader yet :)

    • @AusMiner
      @AusMiner 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      What a load of rubbish. Can't personally speak for the Jeep, but the Land Rover Discovery 4 has a very good name for reliability. When you've owned one for a while, come back and tell us about it.

    • @NickHodgson42
      @NickHodgson42 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      As someone who owned the Land Rover Discovery 3 I can definitely confirm they had many issues. However the 4 seems to have fixed all of them. All the Disco 4 owners I know haven't complained about reliability, but that being said it's difficult to draw a definitive conclusion without extensive research!

    • @BenzinioB
      @BenzinioB 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nick Hodgson That's good but isn't Disco 4 still too expensive for heavy off-roading?

    • @NickHodgson42
      @NickHodgson42 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Benzinio I personally wouldn't say so. Yes it is an expensive vehicle, but why should price mean you can't take it off-road? if you bought something cheaper and then spend more money modding to a higher level you might get very close to this price and at that point would you then deem the car to much money to take offroading? It's a bit like buying a supercar and then claiming it's to expensive to risk driving fast on a track. What was the point if that was the case?

    You must have a camera man outside, have no clue what is obstacle you are going on!
