Hmm, he goes there to eat the feces of rabbits and deer? Maybe he's searching some kind of dietary supplement? Does he get Sepia scales? Mine (hatchling) loves eating them.
They are prone to eating rocks occasionally and people think that they get mineral supplements from this. We give him Miner-All calcium weekly but it doesn't help really. Does a 47lb tortoise that is 2yrs 6months sound like it needs a supplement? Can you find an example of a larger one for his age? Seriously, I've been looking high and low. I think it's just what they do. Easier digestion. One round through for grass doesn't digest all of it. This is why they continually eat stool including their own. Does he get Sepia scales? No. What are these?
They definitely are 1)hyperaware of their surroundings and 2) seek out what they like. Yesterday a little girl named Harper met Stump in her driveway. This evening he returned when taking his walk, no Harper but the point is, he did not get a treat for interacting with her yesterday, just liked it and decided to return this evening. They are intelligent.
