    The game was also unique in that it had hidden path to alternate endings and levels. Seriously, about half of the game is hidden away.

    Always preferred wario to Mario not just in games but as people I'd rather get drunk with wario than Mario any day lol

    I only vaguely remember Wario Land 2 but i remember loving and playing the heck out of Wario Land 1. That game was just awesome and deserves classic status. I just loved the graphics and how it made you feel accomplished when u found all the secrets and got all the coins. From what i recall, I liked 2 less than 1.

    Although they're all great games, Wario Land 2 and 3 are both absolute classics. I miss the Wario Land series a great deal. I hope one of these days Nintendo gets around to porting the VR Boy-exclusive Wario Land to the (appropriately suited) 3DS, seeing as it's a title that few had the opportunity to play thanks to the failure of its mother system (and it being really the only title still of any value on that aforementioned failure).

    • @dante224real1
      @dante224real1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jeff Hocker um... the 3ds is really great to a lot of people. its not failing for most customers of it lol. it has so many awesome games on it that i really don't understand how you could say its a "failure" with any kind of context behind it.

    • @jhock9171
      @jhock9171 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I didn't say the 3DS was a failure; I said the Virtual Boy was a failure. I was talking about the system that Wario Land (its only good game) appeared on.

    you can say they kinda did the same thing recently with Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker. The Gameplay featured in Treasure Tracker was first shown off in SM3DW
    I guess Television Nerds call that a „Backdoor pilot“?

    I think if I remember correctly, this was Nintendo's final original Gameboy game if not the actual final game for the handheld? I had the GBC version which was amazing for my tiny mind back in 1999 haha...

    • @beckybecky125

      This is debatable, as people say Pokemon Yellow was the last original Game Boy game in the US, released in October 1999, DESPITE there being color support when played on a Game Boy Color, and the fact that a few Game Boy Color game paks during its lifetime (from 1998-2002) were black and could be played on an original Game Boy. However, in the US, the last ever GREY Game Boy game pak was Beavis and Butthead, released in March 1999, 4 months after the Game Boy Color hit the scene in the US (November 18, 1998). In Japan, the last original Game Boy game to be grey was "Shikakei Atama o Kore Kusuru: Kanji no Tatsujin" and "Shikakei Atama o Kore Kusuru: Keisan no Tatsujin", both released on March 30, 2001, nearly 3 years after the Game Boy Color came out in Japan (October 21, 1998). And in Europe, the last original Game Boy game (meaning you can change the color palette on a GBC or GBA) is Pokemon Red and Blue, both released on October 5, 1999, nearly 1 year after the GBC came out in Europe (November 23, 1998).

    Can't believe you didn't talked about the different timelines, i mean, in some levels, there is a "choice" or secret ending which leads to different levels and endings. This means that wario was a ton up ahead to his generation. Deal whit it, linear next-gen games.

  • @TheRealDustinNunn
    @TheRealDustinNunn 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Wario is a ton of fun to play with in the Super Smash Bros. series. He runs his opponents over with his motorcycle, he eats his motorcycle (The whole motorcycle or parts of it), uses his motorcycle as a weapon, he bites and chews his opponents up and spits them out like a wad of chewing gum or chewing tobacco, he blows up his motorcycle with his explosive farts, and he uses his explosive farts as a launcher to KO his opponents.

    Wario Land 2 is probably one of the best 2D platformers I've ever played. The level design is spot on, I love the immortality gimmick, and the story fits Wario's world just so well.

    That you couldn't die really confused me as a kid. It was awesome, but I was suspicious.

  • @jonhikarizx3631

    I just started playing this not long ago for the first time ( I've never had it back then).
    Some problems I do have are OCD related ones. For one: why not just have a World Map? I have to complete at best 50% of the game, only to be told, "Yeah, no. You missed a bunch of secret paths. Go back." This kills any accomplishments I had prior when going through some of these stages, and some of them are looooong on the first go. I get that this is a game where you explore, but unless you feel like whipping out a guide? Good luck finding those treasure games and secret exits. 2? Yes, Wario can't die, but he drops coins every time he takes a hit. Want to do a flawless run for the most money? Bring out the savestates. There's no way in hell you can predict what is going to be where. Thirdly, some of the bosses (not all) can be a NIGHTMARE to fight. Especially the ones that if you lose? Restart the fight from the beginning? I HATE that type of design.
    Despite not beating 3 as a kid, I feel that the game is far better than 2. Even then, 2 is still better than 1 for getting rid of the time limit. It's just too bad about the other parts I brought up. Approach with caution

  • @Anthro4ever

    Wario 3:16 says, "Obey Wario! Destroy Mario!" And that's the bottom line cuz Wario said so!

    So, you go through an entire review of this without mentioning either how the levels progress (doors, bosses, and such) or what the point of collecting coins is (minigames for collectibles), in between reviewing loads of tie-ins.
    Derek, you're weird.

    Huh strange how I've never seen the original Gameboy version of this game in action till today, as I've always had the GBC version. Still worth checking out, though I do prefer the original Wario Land to this one, still need to play 3 and 4.

    oomg u were some sort of jedi if u had this for the gameboy in the 90's. I was at a friends house who had the original link's awakening for game boy, but he wouldn't let me borrow it , and I wanted to so bad lol

  • @technoshock11

    This IS my all-time favourite Game Boy/Game Boy Color game.
    Too bad the Wario Land series didn't go too far, and honestly I'm not a huge fan of WL4 (it was a good game, but not nearly as good as 1/2/3 IMO). I'd love if Nintendo made a "New Wario Land" or "Wario Land Returns" game for the 3DS.

  • @SonofMrPeanut
    @SonofMrPeanut 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Heh, well Wario showed Mario. He showed everyone by not only selling Game Boys but also becoming the Super Star in his Mario Party. No really, it's explicitly stated at the beginning of Mario Party 2: Mario Party 1 ended with Wario becoming the Super Star.

      @Rimone Media I'm randomly back after 5 years.
      Still no signs of life for Wario :(
      And Star Fox Zero was not good. I thought the motion controls were awful :(

    The first wario game is the sister game to "super Mario land 2, 6 golden coins". Both being great games but the Mario one is one of the best on the Gameboy.

    Wario Land 2 releases, no one complains about Wario not dying.
    Kirby's Epic Yarn releases and people complain that there's no challenge because Kirby can't die. Irony, thy name is Nintendo.

    • @Benjamillion
      @Benjamillion 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably why the sales were so low for the Wario Land titles as a whole. My first Game Boy game interestingly enough was Kirby's Dream Land.

    • @amygdalatheomniscient7

      вєηנαмιℓℓιση You can´t really compare the two. Especially since the puzzles are rather challenging in the Wario Land series which makes up for the lack of dying.

      miamimagicians Yes, we call this "resolution" and "having color". It might help you to know that a version of this game was released for the gameboy color though, so while we're stuck with the resolution limitations of the gameboy at least we have color for this one. (besides, ghe gameplay is great and the sprites are easily readable, who cares if it has a resolution issue when it's slow enough you can see everything just fine)

    I remember playing a lot this game, the first is the best wario game for me, 3 are meh and 4 feels very different, on this i love the animations and the treasure collect (very challenging) and of course the soundtrack.
