Man, this was my first gameboy game back in the 2000s. Had so much replay value with the hidden ice world; collecting all the trophies and aiming to max pay the genie for the best ending.
If you get all the possible coins and hidden gems, 99999 points total, you get the Moon as your mansion. I got it back in the 90s when I played this game!
The only game I ever pwned to the fullest. It was just easy enough for me to go into all subquests, and even try to max out money in all possible ways which will have an impact on the ending. Beautiful gameplay and art too.
The greatest thing about the game was the end. Recording to the numbers of coins you collected you get your reward. A little cave, a palace, a great awesome house, AND if you were really busy collecting as much as you can, you get the entire moon as your reward. You need more than 6 million coins, I remember that well from my childhood, and then Wario flies up to the sky in front of the moon which is now his. I wonder if you even found the secret land during your game play. There really is actually a secret world that you can unlock during one level, it's a huge iceworld with many different stages.
This game has some of the best music! Mostly quirky variations of the same tune - The music on the "Rice Beach" level when the tide is in is actually rather beautiful!
As I was slightly too young to get this when it came out, my older cousin gave me his copy along with a bunch of other great original Gameboy games that I played on the Color. So many great memories with that little system :)
You have to replay levels because some of them actually change as result to beating other levels in other areas, that lead you to secret items. That's how awesome this game was. Suddenly that level you played long ago is filled with water and has opened an inaccessible area you might not have known about!
This is my favourite gameboy game together with pokemon (red/blue)! It's amazing how much inspiration they had when building each level. This review is a great hommage to the game!
This game has my favorite game music ever. I just picked up a copy and it is amazing. The hardware limitations on sound are a plus for this game because the off kilter, slightly grating music makes this game so much better.
whats so neat about wario's colors in smash brow brawl is that they're based off of the different colors that u can change gameboy games on a gameboy color, advance, sp, etc
Mark speaks the truth with this review, and that isn't just my extreme nostalgia praising him. This game is really in the highest tier of Mario series titles, mainly because of its offbeat nature mixed with moderate challenge. Every aspect of the game is nearly flawless when working together, and you get to be WARIO who is right next to Luigi on the Scale of O.G.'s. Classic material right here, if you haven't played it then do so asap.
A cheat that I managed to find is as follows: hit start, press select 16 times, a square should show up in the bottom left, you hold down a and b at the same time and press left and right to move the square, then press up and down on the numbers (lives or coins or time) to make those numbers go up and down
i got very good memory's about this game,i played this game intensively 10 years ago. the graphics are amezing with cathy music and good gameplay elements. the best this is that the gba,sp adds some color to this game to make eveything more livelike and distinguisheble.
man i loved this game , this was my second gameboy game and i still have it, the games was better than mario for me and i complete the game hundrends of times , when i saw you video i played it on my gameboy sp again, it still fun.
Wario Land's such an amazing game, one of the best handheld platformers ever... it is kind of easy, but absolutely brilliant. It's got six endings too, depending on how much money you have at the end (finding the treasures is vital for this). The graphics and sound are great too, and the level designs fantastic. I also love how some levels change later, like how the tide comes in in world 1, etc. Good stuff. Oh, and yes, VB Wario Land is outstanding, very nearly as good as WL1.
I just bought Mario Land 1 and 3 for $12 shipped on ebay. So excited. Never played 3 but I had 1 when I was like 6 back in 1990. Miss it so much. Good times.
I love the Wario series. I didn't play this one, but I have played the third and fourth in the series, and I prefer the third because I hate time limits. I love how the director added a puzzle aspect to the platforming.
CyborgNinja7 I hate the third game. Rather than a swift but long-lasting(at the same time, but not in a hindering way) punishment such as losing a heart, it decides to make you wait around for at least 30 seconds every time you take a hit.
@playinandworking09 I think there was Wario's Woods, which was remade for the SNES and was originally an NES game, but the SNES remake was only released in Europe I think. There was also one called "Mario and Wario", but that was only released in Japan. You could also play Gameboy games with the SNES's Super GameBoy. But, I never really heard of any other Wario games for the SNES...
Ahh, now this was an awesome game! I borrowed it from someone ages ago and managed to beat it with enough money/treasure to get the best ending. For a while, I thought Super Mario Land 2 was the best of the Gameboy ones, but in retrospective, Wario Land takes it. More secrets, more levels, and an interesting atmosphere to boot. It was a pity I had to give the game back.
I would still love to see a new entry in the Mario Land series! my favourite was Mario Land 2 the Six golden coins! that was a huge leap over the first game
I really like Wario 2, since it has a lot of hidden stages (a lot of hidden stuff) and is more linear than the third. The third one is something like: Do A, unlock next stage, Do B, get new power up/open sealed door, go back to stage 1 to get hidden stuff. It's constantly making you replay stages as there is always something new. For me, I like WL2> WL1>WL4>WL3, but people review the 3rd and 4th as the better ones.
The enemies in Wario Land 3 can't kill you but when you get to the last boss if he grabs you with both of his hands the screen turns black and then it says game over. So you can die in that game but only by the final boss. You can't die at all in Wario Land 2 however.
This game is really really great. It's surprising there haven't been other Wario games like this one. All the other Wario games that came out after are completely different than this one other than jumping, ducking, crawling, and elbowing.
This was the first video games I ever played. I still remember playing Level 1 and 2 OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN because I didn't know how to press Up and B, so I accumulated over 1,200 coins on Level 1 alone.
Either the machine or the cartridge is defective, but more than likely it's just one of them is dirty. Try cleaning the game cart (q tips and 91% alcohol) then allow to dry. If that doesn't work, try the same method to clean your GBC.
this was my very very very first video game ever... my 5th birthday i got a see through purple gameboy with this game and i was the happiest kid in the world im 16 now
I like Wario because he's not a good guy, but he isn't flat out evil. He's just more of a git than anything. His laugh and attitude in Mario Kart 64 is great, can't help but laugh at him. My cousin had Wario Land, played it quite a lot and enjoyed it. I'm slowly beginning to consider the GameBoy as my favourite console. The games have such a unique, slightly eerie, atmosphere. Probably pipped by SNES, but close.
Getting retro games for cheap and playing them for the first time is still tons of fun! But, your comment was ten years ago. It seems like the prices of retro gaming pieces have gone up a lot.
Currently playing this game now, and it rocks! I am really glad I made the decision to play through the Mario Land games because I never had played them before! The best thing I have noticed playing through them is that each game is better than the previous which is great!
This was one of my absolute favorites growing up. Played it on the clear GB Pocket. Masterful use of the format.
Man, this was my first gameboy game back in the 2000s.
Had so much replay value with the hidden ice world; collecting all the trophies and aiming to max pay the genie for the best ending.

"The bad guy"
The only way to get that title is to be undisputed & undefeated.
so miss this
one of my favorite childhood games, replayed it just recently for the memories, awesome review.
The greatest thing about the game was the end.

It's really fun playing this game using the Super Game Boy for the SNES because you can change the color palette and background.
Nintendo should make a New Wario Land that plays just like this game.
wario land shake it
MrMoneyclips bahahaha you can't be serious
go play it.
MrMoneyclips
It plays like Wario Land 4, dumbass
2d platformer. Don't you have a spelling test tomorrow?
Best review in a while. Awesome Job, mark!
This game has some of the best music! Mostly quirky variations of the same tune - The music on the "Rice Beach" level when the tide is in is actually rather beautiful!
Omg MEMORIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I played this on soooooooo many family holiday car rides
This was my favorite GB game growing up. Just started playing it again and the nostalgia is strong.
I miss these videos.. CGR was the shiznit.
Have you heard the news? CGR is back on TH-cam!
I have this, Wario Land II, and Wario Land 3 on my 3DS. All great games.
As I was slightly too young to get this when it came out, my older cousin gave me his copy along with a bunch of other great original Gameboy games that I played on the Color. So many great memories with that little system :)
this game is my childhood... love this game :')
I played this game so much when I was growing up, gonna go play it now! Excellent review!

This game is soooooo awesome. I could play it right now and have as much fun as I had with this 15 years ago.
Simply put, Wario Land is one of THE BEST! It takes the whole Mario series and flips it upside-down (in a good way).
This game has my favorite game music ever. I just picked up a copy and it is amazing. The hardware limitations on sound are a plus for this game because the off kilter, slightly grating music makes this game so much better.
A gane I know by heart. Hurts me not to be able to play that again!
Really a cool game! Thanks for the review!
Best and favorite Gameboy game.
I loved the way the screen was filled.
Man, did I enjoy this game. Even the intro is awesome :D
whats so neat about wario's colors in smash brow brawl is that they're based off of the different colors that u can change gameboy games on a gameboy color, advance, sp, etc
I played it for quite some time and even found trophies from A to O back in 1998 and 1999. What a great game, brings back memories.

I had this game as a kid...oh the memories
Wow this is probably my most played game. Love this game.
Same! I had this when I was younger it is great still to this day.
The music is so nostalgic for me.
This is what I was talking about! Happy Mark reviews. :D
this is one of my favorive games in the wario series :) great review, i still have the gameboy cart too.
That game was so much fan when I was a kid.
I played it to more than 1 million twice on two safe files. That's when you earn a moon in the end.
man i loved this game , this was my second gameboy game and i still have it, the games was better than mario for me and i complete the game hundrends of times ,

5:37 how can ne1 ever forget that death animation/music LOL, classic.
This game was awesome. Watching this makes me want to play it again.
I miss the reviews on this channel
1:40 Opening that door caused such a massive earthquake that even the screen starts to fall.
This video was such a flashback!
thanks a lot!!
I've gotten to Sherbet Land about 2 years ago and stopped playing for some reason, gotta get back on this
One of the first games I ever played and my all time favorite jump'n run.
Why don't they produce Wario jump'n runs anymore?
@ukeleleboy97 It lets you pick however many lives, coins and hearts you start of with, and what hat you start with.
I still remember the debug mode. lol very handy as a child, when I wasn't so good at the game.
Simply put, my favorite gameboy game when i was young!
You will need the bull hat. Press down to ground pound. You can also hold up near a ceiling to stick to it.
This was my first ever video game when I was 4 years old. Still have it.
I love the Wario series. I didn't play this one, but I have played the third and fourth in the series, and I prefer the third because I hate time limits. I love how the director added a puzzle aspect to the platforming.
CyborgNinja7 I hate the third game. Rather than a swift but long-lasting(at the same time, but not in a hindering way) punishment such as losing a heart, it decides to make you wait around for at least 30 seconds every time you take a hit.
one one my favorites from back in the day

I love how Wario's moveset perfectly matches his personality.
Ah man so many summer days spent playing this game
omg out of all the retro games u review this one i actually owned!

Oh, how much fun i had playing this when i was younger. :)
One of my favorite handheld Mario games! I beat it all the time when I was little and now I lost it. :(
@Lokarbtuna Totally agreed. Except for a handful situations, it's practically the only hat I use.
I really like Wario 2, since it has a lot of hidden stages (a lot of hidden stuff) and is more linear than the third. Used to play Wario Land on Virtua Boy all the time, great game(if you don't want to strain your eyes). This one also looks top notch.
Ah, a Flamethrower Hat, thats why Mark likes this game so much.
This game is really really great. It's surprising there haven't been other Wario games like this one. All the other Wario games that came out after are completely different than this one other than jumping, ducking, crawling, and elbowing.
This game begs for a spiritual successor and one day it will get one.
This was the first video games I ever played. I still remember playing Level 1 and 2 OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN because I didn't know how to press Up and B, so I accumulated over 1,200 coins on Level 1 alone.
I freaking LOVE this game!
Wario Land III is still one of my favorite games of all time
OH MY GODD!!!
I USED TO PLAY THIS GAME ALL THE TIME AS A KID!
It's one of my favorite games on the Game Boy. It's a lot of fun!
@jensbuhler They both have their own uniqueness which makes them both equally as good in my opinion.
@RawHunterX
Yeah, that would be awesome. I loved Wario World.
Glad to here that others love the underrated Wario gems too.
this game was also re-released as a gameboy color only game
Martini Gaming Nope.
i mixed this up with wario land 2
+Quisciens yes
I remember finishing this but can't remember if I thought it was good or not.
Warrio's face when he has a hat on (>:n{B) always makes me laugh.
Either the machine or the cartridge is defective, but more than likely it's just one of them is dirty. Try cleaning the game cart (q tips and 91% alcohol) then allow to dry. If that doesn't work, try the same method to clean your GBC.
excellent game!! one of my all time favorites. can't wait for super mario world 2: 6 golden coins
I love this game. I know I got it when I had a really bad fever, because I had nothing to do other then play old games or sleep.
u ought to review the other wario land games since u like the evil side of wario so much Mark.
I played this on emulator all the time back when i was like eight years old. Good times.
Great game it was one of my first gameboy games very enjoyable.
@RawrNinjaBurgers But do the hats do stuff?
I wonder when will they release this on VC.
Damn this game is a reminder of a simpler time, in fact i´m going to play it again.
this was my very very very first video game ever... my 5th birthday i got a see through purple gameboy with this game and i was the happiest kid in the world im 16 now

You're going to review Mario Land 1 and 2, but what about the other Wario Land games? Will they be reviewed in the near future?
I'm playing this first time now, after found the cartridge an a really, really low price. It's an amazing and addicting game, still today!
Getting retro games for cheap and playing them for the first time is still tons of fun! But, your comment was ten years ago. It seems like the prices of retro gaming pieces have gone up a lot.
I like how Wario looks like a mini Mr.T when he gets hit.
one of my top 10 games ever. love this game
love this game , and play this game so much at the gameboy
Currently playing this game now, and it rocks! I am really glad I made the decision to play through the Mario Land games because I never had played them before! The best thing I have noticed playing through them is that each game is better than the previous which is great!
Yes it is, I love how hidden some of the secrets are too in this one.
This was one of my favorite games growing up :)
