My brother and i used to pass wario land back and forth, i suppose he gave it to me more than playing himself cuz i loved it when we were kids. He recently passed, i seek no sympathy in saying that, but its something we always played and loved. My parents gave me his games and its in the case he had his games in. I need to play it again. For him this time tho. Love warioland.
Wario Land II is the best game in its series, and one of the best 2D platformers ever made. The level design is top-notch, and there's a lot of variety in the level design.

Yes, it is worth playing, today. In fact, I played it for the first time last year, and it became my favorite game in the classic Wario Land series. I love all the branching paths and hidden treasures, the different transformations, and I really like how the game makes up for the lack of death by finding creative ways to set you back. (A few of the regular enemies were really annoying, though.)
Staying up late to watch classic Disney movies and shows on The Disney Channel (on the "Vault Disney" block), seeing "Small Soldiers" in the movie theater, and playing "Wario Land II" were the three things that truly defined the summer of '98 for me! I had just survived my first year of middle school (which was a major slice of Hell for me to get through) and had three long months of pure freedom ahead of me. I spent hours on end playing through WL2 and getting all of the endings in the game. Afterward, I would find myself returning to replay through it all over again (I honestly always considered the replayability to be pretty high). The final week of the summer was when I took a trip with my family to the Shilo Inn at Ocean Shores, which was the perfect way to bring it all to a close prior to having to return to middle school for my second year (while the bullying from my peers was at its worst, at least 7th grade was a much better school year compared to 6th grade). Thank you for reviewing this game! It brought back so many memories!
this was actualy my very first game i ever played and i just replayed it a year ago an man this game was still super fun! and since then i have made my own games and if i ever get a change to remaster this game then i will. fun video btw and its nice that warioland2 is still liked:D.
Good review. I love just how insane this game is. The best part is easily the multiple path system implemented, although I hate how the mansion makes the other endings in Wario Land 1 non-canon.
The Side Quest Gamer Review Show They couldn't really make all of WL1's alternate endings canon at the same time... But yeah, the pathways were a great idea - letting Wario sleep was the hardest to find in my case. It's a shame games don't really do that anymore.

Still enjoyed it with the various branching paths that led to different endings and end-bosses.

It's got a very special place in my heart because I would play the absolute hell out of it as a kid and I loved it back then too. I'm pretty sure I know just about everything about the game and remember it so well. The music is lovable, the level design is fantastic and features a handful of themes, the bosses are... Well easy for me now, but not as a kid. The fun through playing it multiple times is high and it's even fun doing the simple puzzles and collecting treasure. The abilities are nice and supply new ways to do the levels, or in some cases, the need to avoid that ability ("Dizzy" Wario, in some stages, comes to mind). The simple and comedic effects, like being SQUISHED by a weight or rock are funny, given that Wario himself isn't really that nice of a person. All in all, a great game that's aged, yes, but still holds some great fun, if you play it.

I also liked how the game took advantage of it's 8 megabit cartridge, which wasn't common for the original game boy. Wario Land 3 is also worth playing. It has the same mechanics as Wario Land 2, except the game is more difficult and secrets are harder to find.
3 isn’t more difficult. The game tells you exactly where to go. I’m assuming by “secrets” you mean the note coins. Which are only something you do at the very end of the game after you’ve unlocked all the abilities. 2 has far more secrets and exploration in its levels 2>>>>>3

My only criticism is how there’s no like main map or hub. How is that a problem? Well suppose you mess up in one level and don’t successfully get the treasure or the map part in that level, or perhaps both. You better reset and do that level again until you do, saying you want to %100 the game, because it’ll save after the level and you’ll have to restart the game just for that one secret or item. That problem wasn’t present in liters every other WL game so yeah. I still absolutely love this game to death and the replayability is high with all sorts of branching paths and what not.
I think WL2 is the best Wario Land game. The "no die" gimmick is interesting, and blends well with the comical transformations (that can hinder or help you) but the game is still challenging thanks to all the hindrances, bosses, and puzzles. Also, the game is by far the longest Wario game, with numerous paths and endings. Also has cool Super Gameboy boarder art.
yes..just finding all the secret endings is 100% worth it (the 1 were you had to afk was lame tho lol, i looked around for weeks). I was super addicted to this game back then. Didnt have the colored version tho
I miss these. Shake-It's the only 'real' Wario game that's come out in around 15 years, and even the Wario Ware series seems dead in the water lately. He's not even making appearances that I feel would have worked, like in Mario 3D World where you have a balanced party of 2 faster, less-aerial characters and 2 slower ones with better jumps, then unlock Rosalina who's on the extreme end of the latter, whereas Wario would've been perfect for the extreme end of the former to balance things out. But alas.
Lol, I think Nintendo gave out free codes for this and some other crap on 3DS at one point, I think it was part of the old Nintendo club when they were trying a promotion to get more people to join, or birthday gifts, or something along those lines. I seem to recall getting it free that way. I remember there being two options, one was trash, the other was this game, so yeah, easy choice.
Yes I like Warriors even got one for the Wii never got a chance to play though wish I did they keep on making that spin off game Wario maker or whatever it is sucks I want to ask you a venture game I don't want that remake of Wario whatever
Super mario land 2 is a great game for its place and time, but Mario moves slow and clunkier than on NES. Im pretty sure it was switched to Wario because its easier for the player to accept Wario controlling in a slower and clunkier manner instead of Mario.

If you don't press any buttons in the beginning Wario is kidnapped, taking him to a different starting area.
But I believe it only works if you've completed another ending first.
it does actually work if you don't get any other ending. It just takes longer.

Wario Land 2 is a fantastic game. But i think Wario Land 3 and 4 absolutely TROUNCE this game. Those are incredible.
