You couldn't have timed this better for me, I just ordered myself a Steam Deck and was wondering what I should get for accessories for it before it gets here
It's amazing that dbrand hasn't flipped the kill switch on Kill Switch by now. With all the dilemmas they've encountered, it really says good things about their brand.
The steam deck is honestly perfect for the ones that need the portability of the switch without having to be bound to playing with an italian plumber for the rest of their lives with no other choices
@@TheOfficialOriginalChad Yep! I can't get a Steam Deck where I live, and decided to get a Switch instead as some of the games I play on my PC using Steam have Switch ports. Ironically, most of my time playing on my Switch has been with Nintendo games…
It should be noted that an A2 microSD is faster when it comes to downloading and installing games if you have fast internet, but once you get to gaming, you won't notice much difference between it and an A1 card. It also won't make a ton of difference if you're using slow internet either. If you have fast internet and plan to download/install a lot of games (especially large games), go for A2. If you have slow internet or don't mind waiting longer for downloads to do their thing, go for A1.
I'm almost certain I'm not alone here, but I'm the type that'll let a game download overnight before a trip regardless of what speeds I have. As you mentioned, I mainly factor in gaming performance over download performance - but definitely a point I could have nuanced more clearly in the video.
@@Denki Yeah no if you're downloading overnight or something, you'd be crazy NOT to get an A1 card. The cost per gigabyte value is way better, and performance is pretty much the same. A2 is probably better suited to those of us who want to tinker and will be downloading, installing, deleting, reformatting when we break shit, etc. repeatedly through the day haha
Two things about the Killswitch, the portal themed grips were "while supplies last" and they ran out really quickly, also it's not compatible with the official dock
Most 3rd party cases that I've looked at aren't compatible with the Valve dock either. That is why I chose to go with the iVoler dock and I also chose a grip case and then bought an extra official charger from ifixit. The cost of thise 3 items are close or maybe just a little more im cost than the Valve desk. And I don't have a need to connect 2 diaplays. Really your decision comes down to what do you care about more; having the ability to connect 2 displays at the expense of either not having a protective cover on your Deck when it's not docked and if you do have a protective cover, have to take it on and ofd everytime you dock undock the Steam Deck, wearing out the protective case in the process. Or finding a grip case and dock that will work together (SD will fit comfortably in the deck even with the protective cover on) and not having the dual display capability. I prefer the latter.
I can't stop buying Steam Games like It's 2010-2016 all over again O_O. I just got a deck the other week, I haven't used it too much as I want to wait until I replace the 64gb. I've got the 1tb ssd and the usb ready! wish me luck!
Feel like you shoulda highlighted that rn the valve dock is the only one with two video outs and definitely the only one (that I've seen at least) with display port out. For games like Hades, 2d games or esports shooters you could definitely get over 60fps
@@JeskidoYT in a quick Amazon search I haven't seen any that are physical stands for it, like a proper switch dock; also any number of brands make USB hubs but how many of them are of comparable quality control for the price?
I love my killswitch. I haven't taken my steam deck apart to tell which of the two fans I have so I haven't used the kickstand while it's on, but it's an amazing case design. My one gripe with these products is the official dock hugs the top of your the steam deck closely so almost any case and some thicker skins can cause it to not sit flush.
The xm5 are good but I hate they got rid of the folding aspect of it. They went more towards bose style which annoyed me. The xm4 is AMAZING and the portability is epic. In its case I can put it in my cargo pockets on my shorts/pants.
I personally don't think the Steam Deck should be classified as a console. The fact that it comes with a fully functional Operating System makes it a PC despite it's small size relative to most traditional sized computers including systems custom built in the ITX form factor and NUCs.
Love the videos Ken. The 1st party deck may cost more but it has something I haven't seen on other docks. Display port. And I believe valve is working on multiple Display support. So you can use both hdmi and Display port for 2 monitors.
I bought the iVoler for all the reasons mentioned at 04:37. Mostly the vents not being blocked. My A2 1TB Lexar SD card claims 150MB/s read speed. I don't believe in brand loyalty. They're not loyal to me. 😜
The unfortunate part is that I gotta take off the kill switch to use the first party dock. Cause the added thickness of the kill switch; makes it sit oddly on the dock with the addition of being unable to plug in the USB-C into the deck. I just prefer to put on the case and avoid taking it off.
I've got an Audeze Penrose, BD dt990 pros, Senny pc38x, Razer Blackshark v2pro, sony wf1000xm3 and a pair of Arctis pro wired. I haven't used any on my deck yet, but I'll probably use the sennies or the penrose.
Watch out for off brand 100w+ USB C PD chargers. I've even had issues with Anker where unless you power cycle them it doesn't properly negotiate PD. Zero problems with the Razer one which is why I have 2. Shargeek does now have a 140w model and I've heard good thing about their 100w so I have a pair on order. It just sucks to sit down plug something it expecting it to charge and it doesn't.
@@I_was_a_Bullfrog correct this is why I said "I even had" problems with Anker. Showing that a generally thought of as decent brand even has issues charging. I've run into other having similar issues.
@Fart Zilla do you have a single device that can use the full 100w? Try leaving the charger plugged into the wall with nothing charging for a couple days then plug the 100w device in. Many brands will fail to properly detect and supply the full wattage.
I got the killswitch. They're even letting me keep the current one as well as eventually shipping me the updated model. I'll then have 2 of these puppies.
I ordered the new killswitch. In the meantime I am really enjoying the Spigen as my current case cover (the actual case that goes on the deck, not the carrying case). Fits snug, grippy and looks like valve made it themselves. I use Spigen on all my phones so I have a positive bias with them already. Hope this helps someone. Good vid btw!
Yeah, because the FX3 needs it to do my job. All the 4K120fps slow-mo footage literally won't work without it. I don't think you're getting that much more value over a slightly slower card if the SD already optimizes well for it.
@@Denki it is true that the sd is well optimized. That's why I wanted to know it. But I could ofc do it myself too. That was my thought process at least
I was about to preorder a Project Killswitch, then I saw the disclaimer and early 2023 start to shipping. I'm gonna have to find something else instead as it just feels wrong not having a case/cover on my Steam Deck.
I own a 512GB U1 Sandisk Ultra card, and I would recommend spending a bit more for a U3 class card with a higher write speed. The U1 card tops out at 15MB/s when downloading games, while a 128GB Kingston U3 class card easily hit 40MB/s. This mostly applies if your internet connection is fast enough.
Yet again another dude makes the same common mistake, the A1 classification refers to the number of IOPs the card can perform, for PCs, smartphones and the Deck a A2 class would perform better but for cameras it doesn't matter, for speed you gotta look for the U class 1 is best for the Deck as mentioned it's only UHS1.
There’s no way you use the XM5 on the Steam Deck. The audio latency is ridiculous when watching videos, and an actual deal breaker during gaming. That was a blatant sponsor slot.
