The therapeutic relationship is not just based on logic, but on emotional connection through empathy, trust and rapport building. The therapist ideally is empathetic with client(s) while centering them and their goals/purpose for being there. While Dr Orna may understand exactly what Mau is doing and has been through, she cannot be direct to scare off and break that trust, she says in her debrief with her therapist, sometimes she's sacrificing her relationship with Annie to maintain a connection with Mau to stay tuned into him (rapport and trust) and continuing therapy. People's self-awareness may or may not happen and this can take months or years of work, especially given both clients have such traumatic and chaotic personal histories that even they themselves haven't fully faced, reconciled, grieved, processed - or even want to. In order to understand how their pasts impact their current relationships.
@@callmesasha9202 I think it's quite common for vulnerable kids to be picked by predators. They know the signs of kids who have no one looking out for them. I've seen studies and I also watched the pedophiles in my youth do it with the neighborhood kids, sometimes "buying" or "renting" children in exchange for groceries or drugs or money. It's great that you didn't grow up that way or have to watch it.

Great comment.
But how these people can do therapy on tv? It s hard to open up to the therapist, but to do it in front of everyone 😮
I’m sure his kids need therapy, having a father like that. Could you imagine how he manipulates them? Yikes.
Poor children. My God
You do such thorough and thoughtful work!
I do believe that therapists should tell LEAVE HIM and not look back right now.
I love these series!!
Thank you for training our minds to identify unhealthy relationships
I feel like May coached Annie before the session with this tragic backstory to try to placate the therapist in his behalf
The back story does seem made up. Like the plot of 50
Shades of grey
