joeresio it aint happening. Capcom or marvel had a contract with Microsoft to have the game in store years ago & the contract expired over time. They didnt renew their contract & the game was taken off the store. Anyone that has mvc2 now has a game thats no longer available to buy unless you go through your download history I think. This was all before mvci so hopefully things change & we do get a mvc collection again kinda like origins.
You ain't lying. The CPU A.I is relentlessly kicking my ass in all 12 Street Fighters. I wish there was way a way to decrease the difficulty level but everytime I set it to one in options, it keeps playing at a hard difficulty.
A lot of things with the port disappointed me, but playing third strike is always just so much fun and the port did a decent job at letting me experience that game online again! Iron galaxy still did it better tho, jus sayin...
Totally agree. I’m still waiting for a SF collection with the console versions of the games. I understand what Capcom was doing with the arcade versions, but I miss the fun of the console versions with the instant accessible modes (instead of entering button combinitations for the extra modes in Alpha 3, for example).
Arcade version got better animations and graphics. Doing a console version will be tough as which console should be ported? Super SF for genesis vs SNES was a bit different in both versions. I played both versions a lot and when I played the arcade version... I notice some things are different. In genesis, I can pull off guile spinning back fist after sonic boom a lot ... not so much in arcade version.
@@mikeylovespizza4012 Better graphics are relative. I still stick with Champion Edition from Mega Drive / Genesis, because in my opinion, it´s darker look and rough sounds suits perfect for a fighting game. If it´s too polished, the atmosphere is weakened. Same goes for Shadow of the Colossus , PS2-PS4 comparison. Also, I don´t like the writing in the arcade versions in comparison to the console versions, so no, arcade versions aren´t always better.
I just got my copy today on the Switch, I wish they did this with Mortal Kombat bring Mortal Kombat Ultimate Mortal Kombat Trilogy Mortal Kombat 3 all of them damn it, get over here!!!!!
*The issue is that this collection is not arcade perfect.* It could never be?, otherwise SF2 World Warrior would have players using Guile; handcuffing you everywhere's and using invisible throw constantly, lol. Jokes aside the games besides the bugs needed to be arcade perfect, along with a monster load of gaming options other previous SF versions had etc's
Frank Garibay would’ve turned out mostly the same. And didn’t y’all hate their Dungeons and Dragons effort? How so many of y’all flocked to the Japanese release done by another developer?
Honestly I got this mainly so I can finally play third strike and the alpha series for the first time and I’m glad I got it on sale, even if it’s not the best version of 3rd strike I love playing it ^^ though I wouldn’t be playing any fighting games like this if I wasn’t introduced to you, thank you for all your hard work max ^^
I personally really like the collection. I’ve been a passive fan of street fighter for years and only recently started getting more into it through SFV and this collection gave me a good opportunity to experience the series that I feel I’ve been missing out on. Plus, it didn’t cost me too much since I pre ordered it, traded stuff in, got a discount and on top of that I got a free copy of Street fighter IV. So I feel pretty valid for my purchase. But from what i hear, on top of what max says, this set definitely has its issues. But I think I can work past it since I mainly plan on playing through the arcade and play it with friends on the couch. So if you’re looking for superb online experience, you won’t find it. But if you’re hankering a chance to play a good bit of video game history on your ps4, xb1, or switch, here’s the game for you.
xxnike629xx Capcom put boring ass Chun-Li where Ken used to be in the original version of the art work and left Ken out of the picture altogether. You really think that Capcom is smart enough to do what you've suggested?
Ken!!! I am honored that you've noticed my hard attempts to get people to hate boring ass Chun-Li. But yes, I'm still "hatin'" on boring ass Chun. You the man, Ken!
rockmenx8xx, no problem buddy! But I'll be honest, The character that suck eggs are: 1. Joe 2. E. Honda 3. Balrog 4. Fei Long 5. Twelve 6. Remy 7. Ingrid 8. El Fuerte 9. Seth 10. FANG What's wrong with Chun?
I wish they used the updated version of Alpha 3 with all of the characters, or at least the version that had classic characters like Balrog, T hawk and Fei long
I loved this game. I haven’t played 3rd Strike since online and honestly this didn’t disappoint. Sure, I had some laggy matches, but they weren’t very common. This game made me fall in love with SF all over again😊❤️
Joshua Cherry same! I'm not a pro level SF by any means but the first opponent destroying me was insane, especially since I can work through Alpha 3 just fine
Super Turbo's A.I. is what most fighting games today ought to have. Monster difficulty. It sorted the men from the boys back in the day. Even pros lose to the A.I. half the time, thats what was so good about it all.
Exactly things are too easy for today's generation. If games like; Dragonball Fighters, Injustice 2, Mortal Kombat X, Tekken 7, KOF 14 and Fighters EX Layer all had ST's A.I.? Oh boy, things would indeed be very interesting indeed for the E-Sports community of Pro players today and thensome!
The biggest problems I have are: 1. No A2 Gold, A3 Upper 2. It manages to screw both pad and stick players. Want 3P and 3K set to L1 and L2? Can't even map 3P or 3K so the Alpha series is more cumbersome than needed for pad users. Wanna use a stick? Unless you have a touchpad you're gonna have a bad time.
Medina2407 thank you, I'll do that. I hope they'll eventually release a patch to add 3P and 3K support though. I have a stick, and I'm only middling on it, but most of my friends are pad users so it would definitely help.
Daniel Goforth I'm primarily a pad player, but I disagree because of the Japanese arcade scene which still thrives, plus there are certain button combinations that are much simpler on a stick. However, I do agree that FGs should be made easily playable on controllers since that is the default for most customers.
StaticShock42 Zero 2 Upper doesn’t exist here, hence it’s not included. Alpha 3 Upper is Naomi and would’ve had to be ported, which is beyond what the scope of the project was all about.
Ralph Pollard SFZ2A Arcade Boards existed here, I remember playing that. The SFZ3 NAOMI arcade was well localized in the SFA Anthology. I kinda wish those games to be included as unlockables.
Let me break down some things 1) The versus mode is just a savestate that the emulator loads in. This is why you don't see a win counter, and why you likely start out on the same stage at the beginning. 2) The entire 'emulation' is likely a hacked MAME fork, going how Digital Eclipse developer Frank Cifaldi alluded to how 'lucrative' volunteer open source emulation could be for the videogames industry and how the MAME licensing allowed for this. So literally zero hard effort has been applied other than making art galleries and a hoky UI. 3) The training mode is a rom hack that basically gives the opponent infinite health, it's not a proper training mode. 4) Netplay, even with a good connection, seems to be running at frameskip 2/3 or something. It doesn't look smooth at all. It really is a lazy cashgrab, sorry. Capcom should have aimed higher for this collection, and plain arcade ports should have never been a 'selling point', it's not, it just highlights the laziness and cash grab-ism. MAME did most of the hard work and heavylifting here, not Digital Eclipse.
ugh...one of the many reasons capcom even is successful and they dont give it proper justice. Just shows its all about the money and not about the game anymore.
All the more reason why none of these games weren't HD Remixed as they SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE. Because the whole thing lacks Hard work from the Development Team.
I want this collection (35th Anniversary, maybe): Street Fighter Street Fighter II: The World Warrior Street Fighter II: Champion Edition Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers Super Street Fighter II Turbo Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers Street Fighter Alpha: Warrior's Dream Street Fighter Alpha 2/Gold Street Fighter Alpha 3/Upper/MAX Street Fighter EX Street Fighter EX 2/Plus/Alpha Street Fighter EX3 Street Fighter III Street Fighter III: Double Impact Street Fighter III: Third Strike/Online Edition Street Fighter IV Super Street Fighter IV/Arcade Edition/Arcade Edition 2012 Ultra Street Fighter IV+Omega Mode Street Fighter V+all DLC All with fully functional netcode, training mode with instuctions/tutorials, full soundtracks (including the 25th Anniversary soundtrack), extra materials, official art, and all the bells and whistles. Now that's a collection.
Ventillator I would include Hyper Street Fighter II as well. Maybe also Real Battle on Film, HSFA, the Final Fight, Slam Masters and Rival Schools Games, etc, as unlockables.
It really baffles me how Capcom wasnt smart enough to hire Iron Galaxy and GGPPO to port this. they wouldve done a much infinitely better job understanding what versions of each specific game was the most well loved and superior version. Seriously the online feature is shit in terms of how it’s set up. considering their past history successfully porting 3S, it makes you think who's bright idea was it to have Digital Freakin Eclipse do the collection
Well a lot of people from the arcade days were disappointed that Third Strike OE ported the PS2 version of the game instead of the arcade version so they would be happier with this version even if it is a bit more barebones
Iron Galaxy would’ve been made to do the same thing. And didn’t y’all complain about their emulation of D&D? They had a realitively easy job to do in comparison to these guys, they only had to do one port of a more recent port. And much of that was done when it was on PS2. If they had to do this it would’ve been a similar scenario.
Ralph Pollard except IG has much better experience when it came to porting FGs. I don’t see the devs taking up the challenge to port MH World so yes they are taking much bigger challenges
Its really sad how this collection feels so lazily put together seeing as its just barebones vanilla ports. no extra characters, no extra modes or stages just makes them super incomplete. No Alpha 2 Gold, No Alpha 3 Upper/MAX, no 3rd Strike Online Edition that had much better online play. kinda bothers me that other reviewers like Gamexplain or RGT 85 havent pointed this out in their videos. glad you did Max. they dont even show victory quotes. it almost feels rushed considering the numerous online issues that were pointed out in other reviews. I do agree that the artwork and concepts and the galleries were the few good things about the collection though. I for the life of me cant figure out what Capcom was thinking with not including the console versions of these games that not only fixed most of these issues but had a heck of alot more content to offer. "Arcade perfect" is hardly a selling point when the "arcade perfect" versions were some of the most buggy and had major audio problems. And for any morons defending this that its "supposed to replecate the arcades". 1. Alpha 3 MAX WAS in arcades so that point is moot 2. that doesnt excuse the barebones ports and audio problems up the ass that may as well came from Fightcade(no offense to Fightcade) 3. there's nothing wrong with having extra modes, content and options for all to enjoy. this is supposed to be a collection after all
Got my copy today, and man the a.i is still a problem, especially for people like me that aren't amazing at SF games. Also yeah Third Strike online edition is way better than the version on here. Still nice to have all of these games in one collection though.
Luke.S 2099 I'm playing SF2 and other games on easy difficulty and yeah basically the same on my end. Chun Li is constantly blocking, Ryu is spamming hadokens, and Ken is spamming hadokens and shoryukens. Did they think only pros were gonna play these?
danielmaster87 2 yrs late, but its due to the fact they are using vanilla arcade rom of SF2, which is notorious for its bugged AI that reads your inputs like crazy, thus it’s literally impossible for you to win, as they counter your move immediately by the frame until the game decides its eaten enough of your quarters. It was so bad capcom back then had to recall the machines and bring out new updated ones that had beatable AI
I completely agree with you on the grading system. When I would play 3rd strike with my friend we would use it to see how badly we beat each other! Then we would laugh about it afterwards. Definitely will miss it.
You can still do it. Just go to arcade mode, load up 3rd strike in the single player mode then have player 2 press start and then fight, then you can receive your grade from there.
I agree with many of your points. The Online Edition of Third Strike is a vastly superior version of Third Strike, but there's no doubt the there is a lot of value in a package with so many titles. I have never played Alpha 1 or 2 before and I love having the entire mainline series of games available on Steam. Again, as you mentioned, the Super Turbo's AI is incredibly difficult and not all that fun for casual playing. Literally the only way I could beat the ST computers was if I used save states after EVERY successful hit I landed. Granted, this did lead me to fight the infamous ST Akuma for the first time so that was nice.
I was so massively excited for this collection, having beforehand never played any SF3 games or SF1 - I counted down the days so closely to its release. I love this collection so much
Honestly, a part of me feels like a lot of this collection’s problems is on Digital Eclipse. They pulled some of this same garbage on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Cowabunga Collection too. Notice that Capcom did the next two collections in house as opposed to hire them again. And most other companies had M2 do the collections as well.
Its kinda sad how the Alpha Anthology collection had more extra content that is more fun and accessible for everyone in 3 games(4 counting Gem Fighters) than this "collection" had in 12 EDIT: Actually there are more counting Alpha 2 Gold and Alpha 3 Upper
StaticShock42 that’s true. My bad 5. 6 including Alpha 3 Upper. Even further proving my point how sad a compilation from a decade ago had more to offer
Alpha Anthology alone is a worthwhile package than this. It got Alpha 1, Alpha 2, Alpha 2 Gold, Alpha 3, Alpha 3 Upper, Super Gem Fighters: Mini Mix (Pocket Fighter) and the super fun Hyper Street Fighter Alpha (which is exclusive to Alpha Anthology). That's 7 outstanding games, 4 of which are not in this collection. This is why I am disappointed with Capcom sometimes with most of their anniversary stuff since they tend to lack extras compare to the non-anniversary ones like Alpha Anthology and the Extended Remix Collection on PSP.
If you can't quote the song correctly from memory or be bothered enough to look it up it's possible you do not like Third Strike enough to make this a sensible purchase for you
Viola the Raccoon SF Online Edition. Fightcade. Chankast. NullDC. You have tons more options for both online and offline play. The first one is superior in every way possible and the others are at least free.
I want the missing characters to be added to alpha 3 from anthology collection I would hope a patch comes to fix that and make alpha two online and training mode
I've always enjoyed the animation quality of 3rd Strike immensely. I wish more games (especially 3D ones) would take a look at how to properly make animations. Mostly talking about things that make you feel like every movement has weight, contrast and purpose to it. A fluttering gi after a Hadouken to signify force behind the blast, proper wind-up of limbs on hits making the moment of greatest force at the right spot, etc. I would say Guilty Gear Xrd does the best job of it out of all modern fighters out there regarding this, but none have made me feel like 3rd Strike as of yet.
Looking at the concept art brought back a lot of good memories. One thing I can't figure out is how to access the service menu to change the difficulty. I really wish these weren't basically barebones arcade ports and I wish Capcom packed in some more features - the least of which being menus for arcade mode, versus, training, options, etc. I also miss Third Strike Online and the achievement tracker because it motivated me to practice and try different things.
Honestly, I wish it was a collection of the four games that were given online, and were the superior home console versions that came later. Arcade perfect doesn't mean much to me when there's better options.
I haven't seen people talk about it but I hate how I can't customize PPP and KKK onto the extra buttons. Also i love sfa3 but I feel ripped off because I grew up playing the ps1 and using feilong... There's no feilong. It feels hollow, like I didn't need three sf3 and five sf2. I would've been okay with the best version of each game and sf4. In my scenario that's only 7 games. I'm happy I got it for switch because this is definitely just for casual if I would of got it for ps4 or PC I would probably never play it again. Also btw for those who want so3 and want to play online mostly you can also play it on ps4 using PlayStation now.
Can't even map 3P or 3K buttons on any of the games. This makes doing air techs in Alpha 3 or EX moves in 3S significantly harder on pad. Even the PS1 port of Alpha 3 had this option. Disappointing.
Idk about the game as a whole, but. Someone brought this on their switch to our local game shop and when we saw him play 3rd strike; a lot of people waited for a chance to play a round...and yes there was a urien cheese player lol
Weapon0fCho1ce i agree, but he kept opp in the corner and did special where he does reglect shield and kept throwing fireballs, and whined when he lost 2 in a row...so everybody was busting his chops through our his matches lol
I'm going to have to rebuy the game again once the Japanese version comes out just for the Japanese ST. They should have just released it with the Japanese version to begin with as that's the version everyone that plays ST plays.
Really enjoying the collection and it's nice to have access to 3rd strike. But the difficulty on some of these games is vicious to the point that it's not enjoyable. Still happy to have so many games on one disc and the gallery rocks. Capcom need to do a vs collection..a darkstalkers collection and a collection of all their side scrolling beat em ups next.
This game is great for my Switch. It is an amazing colection to play on the go. The online play is spotting, but that alone doesn't make me return the game. It's too good to keep onto the Switch.
I find it a bit upsetting when people disregard games because they don’t have a good online mode. Regardless of what they think of the online in this game, there’s still like 90% of the game they just ignore.
All we really need is a collection with the BEST versions of Alpha 3 Max, SSF II Turbo HD Remix, Ultra SF IV, and SF III 3rd Strike OE. If that ain't enough, toss in Final Fight 1-3 for when you're in the mood for some old-school beat'em-ups.
For anyone else who doesn't know where their free copy of USF4 is, and I don't know if this is for certain, I've heard that you have to wait a week to get it. They must've done it to stop people from getting the collection, getting USF4, and then returning the game, therefore getting something for nothing.
I was playing SF2T Arcade mode for the first time while doing this review. While I'm definitely a SF Novice, I was baffled as to why I was losing just so dang bad. I was happy to hear that this port has the horrifying difficulty glitch
Great review Max. You should review all fighting games from now on bro. The industry needs more honest fighting game fans to do fair coverages of the genre.
Funny, my dad bought this for my Xbox and switch and me being a brat didn't want them and immediately just never played em cause they were "old". Now with the pandemic I was bored so I tried em and wow, thanks Dad.
How you liking them? And be grateful lol these were some of the best games back then, old games back then were fire af. At least you ain't gotta worry about characters being dlc
About the netcode: the steam version has superior netplay, because Steam has region lock, so u are pretty much getting always people with at the worst 150ms ping. (wich is palyable) Ps4 and Switch u get paired with anybody that has a switch or ps4, thats why u having netcode issues.
Absolutely, the Steam version's online is far better than 3SOE plus the fact that a lot of PC players are on wired connections. I've been playing 3S online since the original Xbox version and Steam is the best online experience so far so I find some of these reviews hard to relate to. Console versions become obsolete whereas hopefully we'll be able to play the Steam version online for years to come. Also personally I didn't like the design aesthetic of Online Edition (the new music, those stupid spinny symbols when it was trying to connect, the distracting progress boxes on the left of the screen during gameplay etc.) so prefer that this version is more faithful to the arcade release.
I've been playing 3S online on the Steam version since release and had zero problems finding matches. I did get paired a lot with the same guy (like 3-4 times) but it never took me more than 2ish minutes to get a match. The netcode bug is quite annoying but i've ran into that like in 3 out of 15 or so matches (your mileage may and will vary though). Also this might be wrong but since I changed the input lag option to 0 (default is 3) most of my matches have run super well.
I hope they fix the horrible sound for third strike. Considered by many as the pinnacle of the street fighter experience and the sound effects are dialed down with all the fun impact lost and the music horribly distorted. I've read many comments of people saying that's how the original arcade version was but I'm pretty sure it wasn't this bad. The same is not true for new gen and 2nd impact, they sound awesome on this collection.
New Generation and Second Impact didn’t max out CPS3 storage, that’s why they sound better. Why do you think third strike has so few stages? Why many characters share stages? Game has more music, but because they did that they were forced to compress ALL the audio. The previous 2 games had less audio all around. Those games also used far less recorded audio and more system generated stuff.
I've really enjoyed the collection. Having the alpha series on an hd console that aren't the flawed ps1 ports and access to the first 2 street fighter 3 games is great, as well as third strike on a modern console. All the games run well, everything is snappy and fast, online is a solid B, and the art/history stuff is really in depth and appreciated. My major grips are pretty much what you mentioned, particularly alpha 2 not online as that's one of my all time favorites, leaving this collection not feeling like the all out celebration it could have been. For casuals looking to get into street fighter though its hard to argue with the value of this collection.
This is a pretty fair and reasonable assessment of the collection. It's all the iconic arcade roms on a disc (or digital download) with a crapton of artwork from the creation of the classic SF games , so it's more like an archival edition I think. I'd love to see a smaller followup to this that contains just a straight up port of Third Strike Online edition , SFalpha 3 perfect with online play , SF alpha 2 gold with online play and maybe even Super Turbo /Ultra SF2 so you can play the arcade roms mostly untouched or just a nice home conversion for non-purists. Who knows though, I feel like a lot of this collection is kind of a niche product that people will pick up and play for a bit and then have on the shelf more than play hardcore for months. I'd love to see followup collections in this vein - a Darkstalkers/Nightwarriors/Jedahs Damnation set perhaps ? and obviously with the current situation it'd be impossible but how great would it be to get X-men, Marvel superheroes, X-men VS SF, Marvel super heroes VS street fighter and the original Marvel VS capcom in a collection ?
I think the whole collection is running on a CPS1, CPS2, CPS3 Emulator and all of the special points of the game, character select, training on select games and online on select games on a fixed special save state file that loads instantly. This is what I noticed on my Switch, PS4, and Steam versions. These are actual arcade game roms emulated.
USF2 got me into Street Fighter, I bought this collection to play some older titles and I'm having fun trying to get better at pulling off moves and stuff, despite the ai countering basically everything I throw at it. But the collection to me is fantastic.
still disappointed that games like SFAIII don't have all the fun console stuff from the many ports over the years. I'd probably have gotten this game for that version of the game having good online alone.
I thought I was the only one who really liked Alpha 2, I just wish they had more costume variants. However, the character select screen is awesome and the UI is candy.
This collection would have been a lot better if it included the Upper version of Street Fighter Alpha 3 instead of the original vanilla version. Alpha 3 Upper features many additional fighters that are not found in original version. Why Capcom chose to only include the vastly inferior vanilla version is beyond me, in my opinion that was an idiotic decision, a wasted opportunity to make this collection excellent. As it is this collection is not complete.
As a casual, I like to see the thoughts of more knowledgable players and see what they think of a port given its much more important to them than it is to me
Totally agree alpha 2 should have been online but on a personal note I would have loved to see sf2 champion edition online as it was the first street fighter I ever played so it would have been nice playing that game against other people like all those years ago!
this is a great game. I need this video game in my video game collection. I have Mortal Kombat 2 for Xbox one, but I am missing this one in terms of fighting games.
Man, no wonder I couldn’t get past the 3rd round on ST. That’s some shit. Anyway I’m happy with it. Got to play the original SF for the first time and I won’t have to break out the Dreamcast to play A3, and all the SF III’s anymore.
same, the arcade mode isn't very fun. I wanted to relive my youth playing this and getting all the endings like back when I was 8 playing on my brother's computer but what they released is functional but not much else
I honestly had no problem with most of the sf2 series it was only super2turbo that had me just "what the dickens"...super2turbo has broken a.i. i did it during one session, that's 1 sit down session not repeated saves i did continue a lot though, because my save was at sagat in sf1 and i wasn't about to overwrite it. Now i know i gotta go back for the challenge of a lifetime. Hidden achievement "fight/beat akuma" save between every fight is the only chance you got. Lol
Now we need Marvel VS Capcom Collection
JBrevilieri that might not a be a thing (thanks Disney)
joeresio it aint happening. Capcom or marvel had a contract with Microsoft to have the game in store years ago & the contract expired over time. Arcade version got better animations and graphics. Doing a console version will be tough as which console should be ported? Super SF for genesis vs SNES was a bit different in both versions. The issue is that this collection is not arcade perfect.

But I think I can work past it since I mainly plan on playing through the arcade and play it with friends on the couch. So if you’re looking for superb online experience, you won’t find it. But if you’re hankering a chance to play a good bit of video game history on your ps4, xb1, or switch, here’s the game for you.
I think what Capcom should do is patch the games to be using the newest version of the arcade ROMs.
xxnike629xx Capcom put boring ass Chun-Li where Ken used to be in the original version of the art work and left Ken out of the picture altogether. You really think that Capcom is smart enough to do what you've suggested?
rockmenx8xx, you still hatin' on the Chun?
Ken!!! I am honored that you've noticed my hard attempts to get people to hate boring ass Chun-Li. But yes, I'm still "hatin'" on boring ass Chun. You the man, Ken!
rockmenx8xx, no problem buddy! But I'll be honest,
The character that suck eggs are:
1. Joe
2. E. Honda
3. Balrog
4. Fei Long
5. Twelve
6. Remy
7. Ingrid
8. El Fuerte
9. Seth
10. FANG
What's wrong with Chun?
This would alienate 3rd Strike so much as they universally HATE the updates.
I wish they used the updated version of Alpha 3 with all of the characters, or at least the version that had classic characters like Balrog, T hawk and Fei long
Others wanted Alpha 2, I wanted the version of Alpha 3 that had the most characters 😂😂 balrog and dee jay miss us
I loved this game. I haven’t played 3rd Strike since online and honestly this didn’t disappoint. Sure, I had some laggy matches, but they weren’t very common. This game made me fall in love with SF all over again😊❤️
Corn exactly. I don’t play much online so I’m enjoying this collection a lot.
Yeah dude its really well done.
Couldn't agree more.
Guile-Go home and be a family man...
Max-becomes family man.
Well that explains why SF2 turbo is ridiculously hard. I can't get past the first person...
Joshua Cherry same! I'm not a pro level SF by any means but the first opponent destroying me was insane, especially since I can work through Alpha 3 just fine
I'm a consistent casual lol i beat it just took me awhile and many continues.
Learn opponent moves patterns. Its easy to get PERFECT on most of them.
I can beat the first guy...the second one though....oh boy
Villager Boy 1889 (✿◕‿◕) I bow to your skills
Super Turbo is brutal. It makes arcade mode unplayable. And I wish we had parry training in Third Strike, but I still love this collection.
LobsterPuncher SF3 Online Edition has practice parrying modes
Yeah super turbo took me awhile. Well every character is a continue. It's mortal kombat 2 ai...
Super Turbo's A.I. is what most fighting games today ought to have. Monster difficulty. It sorted the men from the boys back in the day. Even pros lose to the A.I. half the time, thats what was so good about it all.
Yeah pretty much I'd prefer ST-style difficulty AI than today's fighting game AI
The biggest problems I have are:
1. No A2 Gold, A3 Upper
2. It manages to screw both pad and stick players. Want 3P and 3K set to L1 and L2? Can't even map 3P or 3K so the Alpha series is more cumbersome than needed for pad users. Wanna use a stick? Unless you have a touchpad you're gonna have a bad time.
raihidara you can switch the start button (touch pad) to something else. i use L2 for start on a stick.
Medina2407 thank you, I'll do that. I hope they'll eventually release a patch to add 3P and 3K support though. I have a stick, and I'm only middling on it, but most of my friends are pad users so it would definitely help.
Capcom made me feel I threw 39.99 dollars into a trash
raihidara I think it's past time people stopped using arcade sticks.
Daniel Goforth I'm primarily a pad player, but I disagree because of the Japanese arcade scene which still thrives, plus there are certain button combinations that are much simpler on a stick. However, I do agree that FGs should be made easily playable on controllers since that is the default for most customers.
Still weird that people defend the lack of Street Fighter Alpha 2 Gold and Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper since they're both arcade games.
Ralph Pollard but weren't they all ported from cps1,2,and 3? I mean if they can port from those they can easily port from Naomi
plus since they're pretty much the most superior versions
StaticShock42 exactly. Idiots will always be idiots, that's why capcom is still in business. Thanks idiots.
LibRetro keep complaining thats what people are good at nowadays . ill be kicking ass on sf
donkeydonk127 Ignorance is bliss as they say. As long as you are happy with it that's what matters. Leave the complaining to the pros. ;)
LibRetro it’s really sad how the Alpha Anthology, a collection from 12 YEARS ago has more content in 5 games than this “collection” had in 12
All the more reason why none of these games weren't HD Remixed as they SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE.
Because the whole thing lacks Hard work from the Development Team.
I've never really played street fighter but I'm having a lot of fun with alpha 3
Thanks for the unbiased review Max, I'm skipping this one.
I want this collection (35th Anniversary, maybe):
Street Fighter
Street Fighter II: The World Warrior
Street Fighter II: Champion Edition
Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers
Super Street Fighter II Turbo
Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers
Street Fighter Alpha: Warrior's Dream
Street Fighter Alpha 2/Gold
Street Fighter Alpha 3/Upper/MAX
Street Fighter EX
Street Fighter EX 2/Plus/Alpha
Street Fighter EX3
Street Fighter III
Street Fighter III: Double Impact
Street Fighter III: Third Strike/Online Edition
Street Fighter IV
Super Street Fighter IV/Arcade Edition/Arcade Edition 2012
Ultra Street Fighter IV+Omega Mode
Street Fighter V+all DLC
All with fully functional netcode, training mode with instuctions/tutorials, full soundtracks (including the 25th Anniversary soundtrack), extra materials, official art, and all the bells and whistles.
Now that's a collection.
Ventillator
I would include Hyper Street Fighter II as well. Maybe also Real Battle on Film, HSFA, the Final Fight, Slam Masters and Rival Schools Games, etc, as unlockables.
Austin Reed Isn't Hyper Fighting the unlicensed illegal version? SF2 Turbo/"Hyper Fighting" is on my list
Ventillator Cross over games like Sf vs Xmen, Sf vs Tekken and CVS2 would be perfect
Why is there even that many sf games
How about just put all of Capcom’s games onto a disc? Seriously, this is a terrible idea.
MattManDX1 who would be more happy with a barebones port. Last time I checked 3S OE is the most well loved of the 3S ports
Iron Galaxy may had too many projects in their path
I'm very satisfied with this collection honestly. I wish gem fighters was included though that game was fun
Same I love this collection it's just so fun and wish gem fighterz was included as well
Its really sad how this collection feels so lazily put together seeing as its just barebones vanilla ports. no extra characters, no extra modes or stages just makes them super incomplete.
1. Alpha 3 MAX WAS in arcades so that point is moot
2. that doesnt excuse the barebones ports and audio problems up the ass that may as well came from Fightcade(no offense to Fightcade)
3. there's nothing wrong with having extra modes, content and options for all to enjoy. this is supposed to be a collection after all
it isnt worth it
At this point, we need a Street Fighter Mania
Considering how good the Mega Man Legacy Collections are, I'm disappointed.
Well there may be a chance for a patch to add some new stuff in. Hopefully the potential update would be free
SuperFusionAJ93 Like how Sonic got Sonic Mania?
I always wondered why zangief threw me from a mile away.
@@monkeyspank3005 Or Guile, doing Flash Kicks from a standing position. This is even worse than the console ports !
My fav SF are:
- Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers
- Street Fighter Alpha 3
- Street Fighter III: 3nd Strike
I got it for SF1 and Third Strike.
The rest is bonus for me
Nah man, you got it for ST as well. (wink)
I brought it to fight my friends online but couldn't do that. What a waste:-(
DR. BLUE If you didn’t get it for Alpha 3 (the best game) then you’re crazy
I was so massively excited for this collection, having beforehand never played any SF3 games or SF1 - I counted down the days so closely to its release. I love this collection so much
just got my sanwa buttons, going to be playing this all weekend
It makes no sense for them to use inferior ROMs of any of these games SMH dammit Capcom
Its kinda sad how the Alpha Anthology collection had more extra content that is more fun and accessible for everyone in 3 games(4 counting Gem Fighters) than this "collection" had in 12
EDIT: Actually there are more counting Alpha 2 Gold and Alpha 3 Upper
Doesn't it technically have 5 since it has Alpha 2 Gold?
StaticShock42 that’s true. My bad 5. 6 including Alpha 3 Upper. Even further proving my point how sad a compilation from a decade ago had more to offer
Could you play those games online?
MrFr1day you mean the buggy mess that has an LGT button? I’m glad it’s not on it
Alpha Anthology alone is a worthwhile package than this.
Coming from a SF Scrub, I hate how input ready the A.I is in most of the games.
Yeah dude it's irritating
" Make the first shot, so what's it gonna be? Trapped in the new world of Street Fighter 3!" Literally 90% of the reason I need this SOOOOO badly!
If you can't quote the song correctly from memory or be bothered enough to look it up it's possible you do not like Third Strike enough to make this a sensible purchase for you
awkwardcultism I do not know the rap by heart and play the game, heck I am a die hard dbz fan and I do not even know head cha la
Viola the Raccoon
SF Online Edition. Fightcade. Chankast. NullDC. You have tons more options for both online and offline play. The first one is superior in every way possible and the others are at least free.
I want the missing characters to be added to alpha 3 from anthology collection I would hope a patch comes to fix that and make alpha two online and training mode
CFC2 will have Alpha 3 Upper from the Dreamcast with its additional characters.
People still play the PS3 third strike? That makes me so glad. I can’t wait to meet many challengers over there
Looking at the concept art brought back a lot of good memories.
Exactly. I wonder how people say, that the ports are arcade perfect. They are not.
Idk about the game as a whole, but. Someone brought this on their switch to our local game shop and when we saw him play 3rd strike; a lot of people waited for a chance to play a round...and yes there was a urien cheese player lol
Urien cheese? How so? I think people would argue he's a pretty balanced character.
Weapon0fCho1ce i agree, but he kept opp in the corner and did special where he does reglect shield and kept throwing fireballs, and whined when he lost 2 in a row...so everybody was busting his chops through our his matches lol
I love the mad urien plays. Wish i had more of those down.
Dizzy Gear EEEEEEXACTLY!!!!
As someone who’s only street fighter game was the one on the 3DS, this game gives me a cool new way to play all the older games that slipped past me.
I'm going to have to rebuy the game again once the Japanese version comes out just for the Japanese ST. They should have just released it with the Japanese version to begin with as that's the version everyone that plays ST plays.
AHHH!!!! My Sub made it into the video!! I can now die happy!!!
BACK TO YOUR ROOTS HU MAX WHAT UP FAMILY? CANT FREAKIN WAIT FOR GAME PLAY VIDS GAME ON MAN YOU ROCK
And here we are in 2022 and yes we have a Capcom Fighting collection that has all the Darkstalkers 😌
It was released a tuesday
Yes
The007JiM That was delicious.
YEEES
YES!
OF COURSE!
it was......
I've never played any of the arcade SF games, I pre-ordered this collection and I'm glad I did !
too bad they didnt include SF2 HD remix they released on PS3.. that really looked good!
Agreed
Not on that shitty controller lol.
Loved the 15th Anniversary collection on ps2, always glad to get these games
SAME!!
We all knew that it was gonna flop without Rainbow Edition :))
Joshua Paul it's just not the same without 16 homing hadoukens
correction Rainbow Edition online lmao
Great review Max. You should review all fighting games from now on bro. The industry needs more honest fighting game fans to do fair coverages of the genre.
Sounds like the game for me.
The difficulty is ridiculously high in these games..
About the netcode: the steam version has superior netplay, because Steam has region lock, so u are pretty much getting always people with at the worst 150ms ping. (wich is palyable) Ps4 and Switch u get paired with anybody that has a switch or ps4, thats why u having netcode issues.
Are there a lot of players on steam? More than fightcade or less?
AlastorAlex how you know this?can you send me a link to back up what you are saying
But PC Gamers are cheaters
When playing third strike in this collection are you able to unlock Gill as a playable character and system direction?
Im enjoying double impact more than 3rd strike.
I played Turbo recently, and jesus, I know I’m not the best street Fighter 2 player, so I’m happy to hear it’s not me being absolutely terrible 😮💨
thought i was going crazy about super turbo, im like no way i dont remember the game being this hard on the first level :'(
Does anyone in 2022 know if many of these issues were resolved in patches?
Capcom living up to their half-assed, uninspired releases.
I agree with everything Max said I thought I was the only one, but I too didn’t like that there was no wiining quote after a victory
This collection is AWESOME! Every fighting game enthusiast should own it.
Can you play this game (digitally) on the ps5? Does it work okay?
@@mikeandroid3512 Yes, I play the digital version on my PS5.
Pocky Styx world tour mode plz
Thanks for the honest opinion and I am hopeful they will update it
As a casual fighting game fan, love this collection!!!!
I thought I was the only one who really liked Alpha 2, I just wish they had more costume variants. However, the character select screen is awesome and the UI is candy.
Itd be nice if we could get one of these with mortal kombat
The dramatic battle, system directions and choice of unlocking Gill is great. In the PS2 games.
As a casual, I like to see the thoughts of more knowledgable players and see what they think of a port given its much more important to them than it is to me
Cammys stage music is 🔥
In 2024, have some of these problems been resolved?
Love your content dood. Keep it up!!!!!
My gripe is that you're God damn perfect, Max 😤 Keep up the good work!
At the price point it's a good buy been enjoying alpha 3 online boi
I bought the 30th edition just so I can play 3rd strike for the first time just recently, I wish I did that sooner
Wish they make a mortal kombat version of this
Totally agree alpha 2 should have been online but on a personal note I would have loved to see sf2 champion edition online as it was the first street fighter I ever played so it would have been nice playing that game against other people like all those years ago!
Needs less Sho and more Ryu-Ken
this is a great game. I need this video game in my video game collection. I have Mortal Kombat 2 for Xbox one, but I am missing this one in terms of fighting games.
The only games missing (edit: and must be added)
• Street Fighter Alpha 2 Gold
• Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper
• Hyper Street Fighter II
Man, no wonder I couldn’t get past the 3rd round on ST. That’s some shit. Anyway I’m happy with it. Got to play the original SF for the first time and I won’t have to break out the Dreamcast to play A3, and all the SF III’s anymore.
ps1 alpha 3. what an incredible game. best street fighter I've ever owned. makes the modern 'season' cash grabs look like a joke.
nice vid!!
I find these games look better in a custom Mame setup... plenty more artwork too
Super turbo is crazy hard and it is the game I want to play the most 😔
Julian De la Rosa
The arcade cpu opponents?
Or online opponents?
Julian De la Rosa Play it online.
same, the arcade mode isn't very fun. I wanted to relive my youth playing this and getting all the endings like back when I was 8 playing on my brother's computer but what they released is functional but not much else
Holy balls the CPU is sometimes not bad, but then other times it seems it's reading your mind. Geez.
Lol
Cool I'll get it, but won't rush, thanks Max!
