    That's my kid in the fall. VXCC band, jazz band and choirs with drama club. A whirl wind until beginning of January. Just choirs and jazz band now. We get free lunch at school. I'll be photographing a water fall Thursday. Won't start hiking again until April. Too icy. I do like this for my 10 year olds snack at school.

    Peanut butter balls are an excellent and easy thing for someone like Hailey. Peanut butter + honey + some kind of ground dry fruit. Or nuts. Mix it up, make balls and pop them in a container. It's instant energy. It's perfect for all lunchboxes really.

    Haley - have you made butterfingers before? Give it a try. Melt a 12-16 oz bag of candy corn in the microwave - 30 second spurts, stir, repeat until a solid mid orange color, stir in an entire container of the same weight creamy peanut butter (12-16 oZ) stir quickly until completely combined. spread thinly on a silpat sheet. cool. melt a huge chocolate bar double boiler style (I buy one of those huge bars from TJs, I don't know the size, but it's perfect - maybe a pound of chocolate). break the cooled butterfinger and dip into the melted chocolate.

    Fixing lunches every day seems like such a hustle! 😳 I got enough work fixing my own lunch box. lol Luckily shool lunches are free in schools over here. Makes things SO much easier. And no, it’s not just pizza and chips. It’s real cooked meals (often two dishes plus a vegatarian option to choose from) plus salad bar, bread, milk etc.

    Nice to see normal kid's school lunches. I don't know any parent in real life that packs those bento style lunches for their kids. We just pack a sandwich, a fruit or veggie, small bag of chips and a couple cookies with a bottle of water.

    • @gingergolden2543
      @gingergolden2543 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sara Bosworth I pack the bento style, but I don’t cut the cheese into stupid designs, my kids get (and like) almost the same thing every day- carrot sticks, celery sticks, cucumber slices in the medium portion, apples and grapes in the next smaller one, either a sandwich or muffin in the biggest part, some homemade trail mix in the 2nd smallest and sometimes a sweet treat in the littlest spot... I make them for 2 days at a time and store them in the fridge. They’re great

      I still do 😊. For 2 years now and I love all the separate sections. I don't really get too creative anymore because I find that certain foods get too smoothed and my son would just end up not eating them. For the dessert, I make a large batch of cupcakes and pancakes and put a frozen one in and it's perfect for the lunch time. It's all about planning ahead 👍.

    I'm not sure what your daughters caloric needs are as a young athelete. But a really good carb load would be low sodium v8. I use that as a powerlifter before a workout. Generic is super cheap. And it's carbs with minimal sugar. Also frozen strawberries are a great carb because they're still low glycemic. So some frozen strawberries with the banana would be a fast burning carb with a slow burning carb. Or even greek yogurt with those 2 in a blender!

    I'm honestly surprised that the school doesn't give you a hard time about what you pack for lunches. My son's school has strict guidelines for what can and cannot be packed for their lunches and snacks, which is a little frustrated to be honest. So I'm glad to see that you can pack them what you want without getting a hard time, or note asking you not to bring that again -_- we live out in the boonies where it's big pork country and they force milk at his school as well..

    • @FrugalFitMom
      @FrugalFitMom  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aside from allergies, what guidelines do they have? Honestly I am surprised that there isn't a nut allergy thing here but so far it hasn't been an issue.

    • @irenatheginger2491
      @irenatheginger2491 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@FrugalFitMom We can send our kids with peanut butter and nut products to school, there is just a separate area for them to sit while eating them. Last year for kindergarten I sent him to school with a lunchable that he had earned, the chips were apparently not allowed as well as the little sweet treat from either candy or cookies. I found out after the fact that chips, cookies and candies are not allowed as it is not part of a healthy balanced lunch or snack..yet they don't send home any information about what is and isn't allowed to be brought to school, obviously soda isn't, but the specialized preschool and daycare that he went to had a full list of what was and wasn't allowed to be brought in, and if some thing was by accident, they couldn't eat it until they left for the day instead. One annoying thing is that with the school lunch program, the children are not offered water as an alternative to drinking milk, and cannot bring their own water with them to lunch of they are having school lunch vs home lunch.
