Last year, my middle schooler's lunch account was cleaned out in the first week. It should have lasted 2 weeks! We discovered it was because the standard lunch choices were unappealing and that snacks were all she bought. Now, she packs lunches every day except on "walking taco" day.
My boys do pack their own lunches. This school year, my oldest is making his own sandwiches or wraps for his school lunches

Mindy, you know what I LOVE about you? You give your kids responsibilities. They get their lunches ready, clean up after, etcetera. You don't see much of that anymore. Kudos to you!

I'm loving these ideas for my Husband who is a truck driver lol. He needs things that are easy to eat and don't need a lot of fuss. Also loving these ideas for my teens for before sports snack ideas when dinner isn't until 9pm. Sometimes I feel like all I think of for lunch ideas is sandwiches of some variety.
Oh yeah, these would be good snack size portions for active older kids and adults!
I recently became a foster mom to 2 elementary school children & I’ve been trying to figure out what to feed them. These are great ideas. Also thanks for the tip to have them pack their lunch to learn a sense of responsibility. I’m definitely going to try this!

Yes please!! We take a packed lunch most days. We attend a private Christian School, and our lunch program just started back this year. Trays cost $6/person per day! (Not terrible compared to eating out, but a lot for scho, IMO. I work there, so I also need a lunch. We do have microwave access, so that's wonderful! Loved these ideas! Keep them coming!

Definitely lunch box ideas. We adopted our granddaughter and never thought I’d be raising another child. She is going to 1st grade and her private school has fast food brought in different days during the week. I know she won’t eat most of it. 😊

Another alternative for the cornbread and hot dog is muffin mix ( like Martha white blueberry) and sausage links 😊 or muffin mix and hot dogs
My son is special needs. Lunchables are a life saver.
I have found crescent roll dough for as little as $0.25. Those def went into lunches.
Also I found that those English Seedless cucumbers last longer and that the kids are more likely to actually eat them.

Would love to see more budget lunch ideas! We homeschool but these are just as good for us because if they make their lunches the night before, I don't have to make lunch the next day and I can do other things during our homeschool day! I always love your videos thanks for all you do!

Haha, everytime I see those suddenly salad boxes I hear suddenly Seymour in my head, glad I'm not the only one! My school was a health food school so we didn't have any chocolate and only 1 brand of baked chips. Carrot sticks and 'flies on a log' (celery with peanut butter and topped with sultanas/raisins) were common snacks. I'm Australian so pretty much every lunch was a Vegemite sandwiches for kids.
I would love to see you do another week of budget school lunches. Maybe a series? Or at least once a month you can give us more ideas?! Those cornbread/mini dog muffins will be a huge hit with all 3 off my kids. Thank you!
That was what I was thinking, too. Maybe do a few more at the beginning of the school year and then one a month for the school year.

My kids just started school again. I hear you about the weather. Its the same in IA. I have been growing melons this year and ive picked 4 so far and thats been really nice. I wish my fridge was bigger to prep more things. Ive been helping my 9 year old autistic son to empty out his container and put it in the sink. I just got an air fryer and its already been helpful for lunch. My son took mini wontons today. My oldest has an ED, and hes a teen, so he packs something that he will eat. I got a bulk back of lunchables at sams club and the kids loved it because i cant get them as often.
When my now 30 year old son was in grade school, I really got into lunch packing. I still have those items! Hoping for a grand baby, someday! I have 2 insulated sleeves from Sargento that hold string cheese, pringles plastic container, a goldfish holder shaped like a goldfish, sandwich shaped cutters, a metal uncrustables maker, a neutral grain bars holder & many more! These are old relics from a time before the internet!

Thank you Mindy. I have 2 rising 8th graders and one is taller than me, so he was eliminating my budget last year with the school lunches and their snack hooks like Snapple and chipwich. This year he will be attending an online private school and my daughter will still be attending school in person so I'm needing to keep the budget low, while keeping the food nutritious and interesting and appropriately temped so Thanks 👍🏽

I only have one kid still in school, and he doesn't take a lunch. But those of us at home all day (and my husband who takes lunches to work) could use some ideas for quick and easy filling "grown up" lunches! There are sometimes leftovers, but sandwiches get old and most times we want something more substantial than cheese and crackers (though I have plenty of those anyway!)

I am a kid at heart so I will be trying these ideas. Just a side note I am in Canada and the items you bought from Walmart would cost us $37.19. Wow big difference. I might think of getting a passport and crossing to do my groceries 😊

Don't forget to factor in the money exchange. When my niece visits me, she said that although things are cheaper, with the exchange rate she wouldn't save much. his was last year...this year may be different, I don't know. Good luck, and I hope your children have an amazing year.

My kids also pack their own lunches, they are easy though...They typically do a sandwich, one fruit and one veggie. Some like a yogurt tube as well.
I haven't priced it out but can't imagine it cost much per lunch.
I put 2 snacks options out they can pack, when one of those are gone I add another option. Usually big bags they put into smaller baggies themselves.

When the Lunchables go on sale at my Sam’s I’ll occasionally buy them at 6.84 for a six pack so like 1.14 each. I remember when they used to cost 79 cents normal price at Walmart 😂those were the days..

I have been eating out of our deep freezers for a month.. I buy the shelf stable milk because I really just use milk for cooking. We’re not too much into cereals not very much but I will buy maybe a half gallon every so often I do my bread and I freeze it so I’m good with bread. Emily pit plenty of butter and I have so much protein in the freezer that we gotta go through it.

The jiffy cornbread/weenies muffins were adorable, I’m packing those for my work lunches and the variety of other snacky type things with yogurt/fruit, granola and using your tip with that yummy pasta salad will come in handy when I make the salad for dinner then right into my work lunch!!! I can always use more lunch ideas. Both of mine are in high school. One kid likes school lunch the other prefers a lunch from home. The rule I have always used for my kids is a lunch must have a protein(sandwich, Lunchable, etc.), a fruit and or veggie, a crunchy(chips, crackers, snack mix, etc), and a treat.
