My sister won't eat at our house, and talks crap because I always shop clearance, and shop children's consignment shops. My husband does have a very well paid job, but if I can save money on every day things, and put more in savings I'm going to.
She won't realize your ways til retirement hits home, which is the time that I've heard geriatric healthcare is expensive to the tune of $70k or so. I've already been charged $1.5M but for things that weren't diagnosed when it was early onset. People thought I was crazy when I said I thought I had a brain tumor..... Thankfully it was benign, now it's gone!
Eh! Get some friends on FB frugal communities or elsewhere. My closest friends LOVE it when I make dinner and then I brag how much I spent on it. Example... I bought a turkey after Thanksgiving, cut it up, froze it and made tostadas with it rather than chicken and my friends want more!!! I am making it again this weekend with some chicken in my freezer rather than turkey. I spent about $15 for a dinner of 5 adults and still had leftover! ($15 is an est.)
You shoot from the hip, but aren't nasty. I also like that you are funny without being forced as is your husband. You really know frugal strategies without looking at notes and present them in a non-judgmental manor.
Video was not way too long! I really did enjoy it very much and it inspired me to cook for me and my family. (It’s just me & my Mother ... she is 80 and lives with me.) I am a caretaker. I started cooking most of the meals from scratch or just brought ingredients and I have gotten her high blood pressure diabetes and cholesterol under control and the diabetes is completely gone she doesn’t take diabetes medicine anymore.
Elizabeth Borkland.....WELL DONE!! That is SO AWESOME that you got your Mom's medical conditions under control. I hope that you are proud of you, because you have every right to be! YOUR A FABULOUS CAREGIVER!!!😊👍
Omg when you throw the box behind you and then your husband quietly comes and picks it up to throw it away! 🤣😂🥰 I love it. I feel like it shows a glimpse into your relationship dynamic. It’s so cute!
Another way to save on clothes with kids is to change their clothes. As soon as they get home, take off their school clothes. If they are staying in, have them put on their oldest clothing that fits. If they are going out, play clothes. And you spend accordingly. School clothes are tough of as good as quality as you can get (buy at thrift stores if possible) play clothes are old school clothes or hand-me-downs that still have life left (or cheaper clothes from thrift stores or sales) and at home clothes are the ones where the pictures are faded, maybe a hole or two, old leggings, sweats, anything old, wore out a bit, and comfortable. Another thing my grandmother used to do is as soon as we came in, she would sent us to get baths and we would wear our pajamas for the rest of the night. So, homework, dinner, etc in PJ's. Pajamas are usually cheap and comfortable. If you drop ketchup on them, just wipe it off and who cares if it leaves a stain. That is why you get the plaid ones anyway.
I get so many hand me downs for my daughter from a co worker she could literally probably never do laundry for months! We take a good chunk and donate the rest to shelters around town. They’re often great condition and all brand name. We’re happy with less and so it works out because we get so much. I haven’t had to buy her clothes in 3 years :)
My family did this and it really does make things last longer! I'm the oldest of eight kids and my youngest sister is currently in high school and wearing hand-me-downs that have made their way all the way down the chain, from our cousins, to me, to the three other girls between us, and finally to her. It helps that things from the 90s and early 2000s are trendy again. She doesn't feel too unstylish. Only downside is that I turned into a pajamas and loungewear junkie. lol
True. When my kids want to go outside and play, I make them change into old clothing (holes and stains) so that they don't ruin their good school clothes. I also have them wear older shoes so they don't ruin their new ones.
@@laurenj.5312 That is how my grandmother did hers as well. Play clothes, unders, and jammies in the dresser-good clothes hung up. Except sweaters, those also went in a drawer, so they wouldn't warp on the hangers.
I'd love to see a week of frugal vegan meals and/or vegetarian meals! I think for any family it can be a positive thing to try meatless mondays or whatever, but I'd love to see how a whole week would go for you! I'd love to see how cheap while at the same time being actually healthy/balanced you could do vegan for a whole family!
This is how I grew up and how I still cook . My dad was an Architect and had his own firm , we were a family of 6 and mom would fill that pantry/freezer when the money came in and it would last . We shopped at consignment and thrift stores and we never wanted for anything . Today I was at Value Village ( BC 🇨🇦) and I found a Tall pair of UGG boots with little to none wear for $14.99 - these retail for $250 and I found a new bra which I usually pay upwards of $80-100 so it was a great day .
YES! There are people out there like that! My sister in law is like this because my Husband and I shop a big discount store (American Discount Foods). She claims that it makes her stomach hurt but this only happens AFTER she finds out we bought something from there and she ate that item! So she just doesn't eat anymore when she comes over. What she doesn't realize is that she's saving us some extra money LOL!
I saved money all year and once my kids hit their teens I gave them a budget for clothes for the year. Back then $200 bought a LOT. They shopped for their clothes. If they bought one thing with that $200 that's all they got. I stuck to that. After the first year, they were looking for deals and really did well on budgeting. If my kid didn't want what was served the rule was I only cook one meal, you want something else, cook it yourself. I did help them with utensils, using the stove. ALL of my 5 are good cooks. All of them. I only cook half the time if they are home BONUS. Started them at 8.
If you don't have meat for your zuppa tuscan soup... Use white beans and season heavily to give them the zip your meat would have. We do that to make the dish vegetarian friendly. Very tasty.
Try mixing burger like you do when making meatloaf. Add it into the half peppers. Then pour tomato sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, seasoned salt, pepper, and whatever seasonings you like over the top and bake them. This is DELICIOUS!! Serve each half pepper and sauce over rice and add a veg. Good to go!! Yummy!
Love how your kids only took a piece of each cookie to try it, my kid would have eatten a whole cookie each to try them😂 To save on clothes, I cut pants that fit but has holes in the knees for shorts instead of buying shorts. I buy sizes bigger when it is out of season and on clearance. When it is on clearance it is usually cheaper than the thrift shops in my area. I second facebook market place. That is where I get my son's jeans. Alot of people will sell almost brand new jeans their kids grew out of for like $2-$3 a pair!!
Sam Corzine I took care of nieces and nephews too. I shopped at Plato's Closet for the later kids. They sell AE jeans for middle son at affordable prices. I even bought a pair at goodwill 50% off so when I paid out was $4. I looked up saying, "You're kidding!" with 40% off at the stores during Thanksgiving I paid another $50 for 2 more pairs, the request for jeans came after I helped my son pay rent during govt shutdown last year at Christmas was also his birthday. I swore I wouldn't drop the ball on celebrating with my kids. I try to set aside some money before the holidays to be able to do anything they want. I'm glad to say we made it thru OK. :)
I've seen quite a few family channels like this and this is the first time I've seen a husband and son helping in the kitchen. It's so refreshing to not hear "I need to get my daughter to help me cook/clean up." when they have husbands and sons around the house, too!
my family doesnt always like my “frugal” food either! so what i tell them is bring the food you want to eat! they can help out if they gonna complain! LOL🤷🏻♀️
I went down a rabbit hole with her videos. I've watched a lot of her videos the past 2 days. I really like her food ideas and even the freezer meals are going to be a thing in my house. Her family is great, her personality is amazing, and I think it's just a win win
NEVER apologize for a long video, I loved that! Also, really enjoyed your banter back and forth with your husband. You guys need to do more videos together, it was so much fun to watch.
I've started a policy of frugal week. It is every other week and enables us to save $100 a week every other week. I use the opportunity to cook what I've had in the freezer or pantry, and supplement it with on sale items at the store. When we were feeling pinched in our budget because of prices creeping up from losing promotional lower costs for cable/internet, this helped out a lot. Some food is expensive. Some food is cheaper. Waste is bad. So don't let things expire in your pantry if you can avoid it. Thanks for your video! If you want a flatter crispier cookie, use butter. If you want a puffy thick soft cookie use Crisco shortening. I think the perfect cookie is a combo of both 50/50.
Super video! Not too long at all! Recipes and ideas were wonderful, as are the appearances of Dave and the kiddos! You all are setting a good and positive example for how a loving and healthy family interacts with each other. It’s so awesome to see no yelling, insults or unkind things being said or done! God bless you for that!! Far too many folks live in bad situations, and it’s such a blessing to have your family as healthy role models for others to watch and learn from! 5*****🎉❤️🙏
Here is a challenge from another mom (of 12): how many meals can you make from a single 20# ham? I was given one today. I will be canning a variety of soups (various beans, ham and stock, etc),.. I will dice some and mix with diced onions and peppers then to freezer to use in quick scrambles. I will make and freeze ham and pickle (add mayo later) for sandwiches. Ham Slices with red eye gravy with a separate section of mashed potatoes and corn to freezer as pop in oven and go meal. I am not a big ham person so a little goes a long way with us.
To the gal with the judgey friends. If you don't want to get new friends then I'd just let them host OR do a dinner where everyone pitches in (Nacho night or taco night is a really awesome way to do this, everyone brings their favorite topping). Also I'd just be honest with them. They should like you for you and not what your spending to have people over. If they don't care enough about you guys to support your financial goals then that's their issue. Good Luck hun!
You just gave me the awareness that basic spice mixes can be such a game-changer even with simple foods. They make you feel less deprived immediately, and it is so simple.
I think you're pretty real, and never got the impression you got it all together perfectly, which is something I really appreciate about your channel. 👍🏻
Diapers only hold CRAP! 😁LOL You are amazing honey. You are entertaining to watch. You are easy to digest 😍🍫 You always share easy, cheap, YUMMY meal ideas. Genius!
I agree, get new friends if they think your food is not good enough. What the heck, I would gladly eat ramen at a friend's house to spend time with them and bring some dessert for us. It would be awesome. One way I save on kids clothes is to use the good detergent. I buy Tide Pods which are expensive but they get the stains out, everything comes out do nice and lasts longer.
a lot of getting your food budget down is buying multi-use items like bananas(or fruit that can be make in to muffins when it goes bad) flour sugar meat on sale that can be used a multitude of ways like hamburger chicken soup bases and beans pasta
He doesn't care if it's crunchy or soft, he just wants cookies! 😂 I giggled, thinking about writing to the troops before the holidays. No one answered so Idk if it was a good address? Was supposedly the military analyst for Dallas PD... I surely hope the soldier made it back home....
We watch our favorite TH-camrs instead of cable TV. You're one of my new favorites! Joined your Ibotta and Fetch teams. Thanks for the humor, honesty, and positive attitude! Fans in Kentucky
I'm an old mom that's already raised her family & wanted to tell you that I think you're absolutely brilliant in how you're so creative in feeding your family & frugal as well.
Try making Mexican stuffed peppers with taco seasoning and some salsa on top and cook. Then have a tray of tomatoes, corn, sour cream, black beans, cheese, etc to put on top after cooking
Yummy meals! As for the peeps that don't like your food served for dinner guests, they never were your friends. I read a sign on a big ranch gate once that I really liked, "All our guests make us happy, some when they come and some when they go." Amen....
Your videos and your family are entertaining! I enjoy you! Please continue to be yourselves and keep it coming! This is better than binge watching tv. 🤓
I think it’s refreshing how honestly you are, you don’t pretend to be better than you are and that I love that. You and your family be safe and blessed sweet greetings from the Netherlands 🇳🇱
Love your channel. I'm a fairly new subscriber so I haven't seen alot of your older videos yet, but i absolutely love the humor, the way you includ your family and all the great information and recipes. My kids love your channel too. Thanks for sharing
I really like your q&a while cooking! I love how honest you are with all your responses. Also love when we get to see you and Dave interact. Such a sweet couple/family ❤️
Instead of plastic wrap try parchment under your foil, I tried this with my last batch of lasagnas and it worked great. You can just leave it on to go in the oven and no sticky to your cheese!
Been bingeing your videos in between taking care of my son and doing house chores and as a young stay at home mom on a budget I can't tell you enough how helpful these recipe ideas are i have a hard time sticking to a budget because I hate eating the same thing over and over and your recipes give me some fresh ideas 😊
I started making apple crisp in the microwave about a month ago now when my oven stopped working and I had a bunch of apples to use up . My 6 year old grandson helped me. I figured if it was a fail I could blame him. Not really... Well maybe 😂. It turned out great we were all pleasantly surprised. Crunchy topping and all. Was nice to see someone else make it. 🌼
I've watched about 50 of your videos and this is my favorite. And not even because of the food. I love your husband being in there and asking the questions.
I just wanted to say your children are amazing. If my mom would have said “Come try these cookies.” My siblings would have grabbed handfuls of cookies each.
I love how honest you both are about your personality. I don’t mind being offensive either as long as I’m being honest and it’s not meant to be hurtful. Most people appreciate it. Some people just find it funny.
Christine, I love your videos! You are not a snob about your fitness. Most people that do fitness videos are like "you have to do X Y & Z or your just never gonna look like me" but with you I feel you are real & just makes us want to do better! Thank you
I love soft cookies I always cook them under the suggested time and then leave them to firm up but they still come out soft theyr delicious I dont like crunchy ones :)
To answer the question of the people who don’t agree with a frugal life.... see ya! 👋 My family is always amazed with my deals and couponing and grocery budget but often make fun of me for being frugal, or make jokes about my couponing. Hey I’m saving money!!! Why pay full price when I can pay $0 -1/3 of the price? You dont need negativity in your life 🙌🏻 Love your channel ❤️😍
Just want to say that I love this channel and your family. I hope you're all doing well. Thank you for all the time you put into these videos. Your advice has really helped me, and I have to say your blunt honesty is extremely appreciated and refreshing. ❤ Keep doing you!
It's funny you all discussed "doing it all" because JUST 10 mins ago I was telling my mom how I have a girl crush on you because you can cook (what look like amazing meals) and are frugal and an athelete... not even talking about how I actually like your family and kids!!! And you seem to like books! WIN!! Good on you all!!
I've been thinking about making apple crisp and BAM here you go with a recipe. It's a sign. I'm making this tomorrow. Also, you have such a beautiful family. Your kids look exactly like you and your husband. So glad I found your channel.
My mom is diabetic so I made this instead of something with high sugar content. I always cut sugars in half if it's possible to avoid it all together even better.
Christine, one thing I heard from a military mom about super picky kids was they didn't have to eat the meal they didn't want to try; but, the next day that kid ate plain white rice for all three meals. It fostered healthy trying. And, they kid didn't go hungry but had a limited choice.
You just gave me a great idea. I wasn't sure what to do with some peppers that I picked up in the 100% off aisle (AKA dumpster diving) that are in good shape but I always like to use them relatively quickly after washing them in a water/vinegar bath just to be extra safe. You should wash all of your produce but I just feel like being extra careful with free stuff. For those who are saying YUCK!, I have to say that I have NEVER gotten sick from dumpster diving food. I have gotten sick from some nice restaurants. Never from a dumpster. Just use common sense. Even though I'm cooking for a small family, I still love your recipe ideas.l just downsize them.
I agree 100% with that statement about friends. My friends know that I am a single mom in suburbia with a mortgage and I am VERY frugal!! However, I also learned how to cook at an early age and along with FFM videos, my friends LOVE coming over for dinner. I make up recipes and I based ALL MY GROCERIES ON CLEARANCE MEATS!! I also started growing my garden to cut some costs. You want to have friends that will encourage you to save money!!
I don’t know how old you are you’re probably not old enough to be my mom but since i started following you I honestly feel like you’re my mom! Lol your tone and voice is so calming and I love watching your videos. You seem super nice.
I am not the least bit worried about what people think of my budget shopping. I consider it a skill and a badge of honor. I make some pretty darn good dishes, as anyone who eats my food agrees. I would tell the stuffy ones to take their gourmet food boxes and enjoy but don't expect this at my house. I only watch a couple food vids, yours and another. Real people not pretentious snobbery. Great job as always. Lovely family.
Just found your channel and I LOVE your energy!! You’re so positive and excited about cooking for your family and living a healthy lifestyle which is what I do everyday! Keep it up mama! 💪🏻 😀
Your videos are never too long. The apple crisp is the only way I’d eat oatmeal lol it looks delicious. Have you ever made chicken satay here’s a quick recipe. I’ve used thighs for this too and its delicious I hope you try it xx 2 tbsp peanut butter 7 tbsp soy sauce 7 tbsp lemon or lime juice 1 tbsp dark brown sugar 2 tbsp curry powder 2 cloves of garlic 1 tsp hot sauce of your choice 6 skinless boneless chicken breast Cooking spray Rice or flatbread and salad Place all ingredients into a bowl add diced chicken and refrigerate overnight. Take from the refrigerator and bring to room temp. Spray a pan and cook gently until the chicken is cooked if the sauce is too thick you can add some water or stock.
Just a suggestion on freezer meals that have to be covered when cooked: if you put the cling film on the outside of the foil, you don't have to completely unwrap and re-add foil for cooking. You can just take the cling film off. I am new to your channel, and love it, so far. Thank you for all the great tips and for living your best life. ❤️
If you ever stumble across Skyr on sale (called Icelandic Yoghurt in North America for some reason) I 100% recommend replacing the cottage cheese mix with it. You do it up basically the same way, and add some Italian-esque seasoning. (I made my first lasagne last night and have figured out I loathe cottage cheese because I enjoy every lasagne that does not have it, and hate every one that does)
People will say kids are expensive but I never believed it. I have always been frugal and we got their clothes mainly at thrift stores and clearance. My motto was that if it lasted so long to end up in the thrift store, it has to be good quality. We have eight kids and never worried about name brands. Off brands are just fine especially diapers cuz you are right: they just hold crap.
I absolutely love your videos! The longer the better! My mother in law gave me her recipe for Apple crisp. Hands down the best one I have ever tried. The topping is the best part in my book. We pour half & half or whipping cream over ours. Soo good! Now I want Apple crisp!
If people won’t eat at your house because the food isn’t good enough, you’re being frugal in the fact that you don’t have to feed them ever.
HA! Yes!
"Sorry you don't like our food. Next time YOU cook!" 😂

Or tell your friends to provide the pizza if it's that bad and you could provide the dessert.
Homemade dessert is so cheep and frugal you both win.

If the food taste gross then its understandable. But if you are preparing the food with flavor and it taste good then it's her loss.
I enjoy the longer video. No complaints from me.

Well all need a Dave.

just a little FYI, if you cook your tomatoes for at least an hour it takes away the acidity without the sugar.

I read today that if you want.chewy cookies use bread flour instead of all purpose flour. The extra gluten makes the difference.
Some people are so snobby. But I can't believe they said it to her face! That's just beyond...
Another great video. Thanks!
Nobody watched your garden videos?? Man, I would LOVE to see a garden video from you!!!
I think you're pretty real, and never got the impression you got it all together perfectly, which is something I really appreciate about your channel. 👍🏻
Diapers only hold CRAP! 😁LOL
You are amazing honey.
You are entertaining to watch.
You are easy to digest 😍🍫 You always share easy, cheap, YUMMY meal ideas. Genius!
Love how your husband walks over and picks up the pasta box after you throw it over your shoulder.lol! 😂
Garlic carcasses! That made me laugh, I’ll definitely use that term moving forward 😂
I've watched this vid before, but am coming back because I'm desperate for watching 'real life' pre-Covid. Thanks!
a lot of getting your food budget down is buying multi-use items like bananas(or fruit that can be make in to muffins when it goes bad) flour sugar meat on sale that can be used a multitude of ways like hamburger chicken soup bases and beans pasta
Stuffed peppers are a favorite of ours- we just stuff with browned sausage and cream cheese 🧀
Which one do you like, Dave?
*YES, PLEASE!*
😂❤
You mean the cookie part that cracked me up too!
He doesn't care if it's crunchy or soft, he just wants cookies! 😂 I giggled, thinking about writing to the troops before the holidays. No one answered so Idk if it was a good address? Was supposedly the military analyst for Dallas PD... I surely hope the soldier made it back home....
I really love this cooking AND answering questions at the same time thing. It's super entertaining.
“Nobody can do it all.” You are a mom therefore everyday you do it all!
Brilliant. I’ll have to try this tip.
You have the coolest kids. And the sweetest family. I can tell you are a really good/cool mom
New subscriber here! Loved the video, and I adore your family, so much laughter and love...and FOOD! I mean what else is there right?! Lol Yay 😁
I would watch ALL the gardening vidoes!!! I'll even watch all the ads and not skip them 🤣
The first gooey batch of cookies would be heaven to me!
From one INTENSE person to another; you are the queen of our people. Don’t doubt it
I love how honest you both are about your personality. I don’t mind being offensive either as long as I’m being honest and it’s not meant to be hurtful. Most people appreciate it. Some people just find it funny.
I’m vegan and my kids are grown. I’m not on a budget BUT I LOVE ❤️ and am addicted to your channel!!!! 😂
To answer the question of the people who don’t agree with a frugal life.... see ya! 👋
My family is always amazed with my deals and couponing and grocery budget but often make fun of me for being frugal, or make jokes about my couponing. Hey I’m saving money!!! Why pay full price when I can pay $0 -1/3 of the price?
You dont need negativity in your life 🙌🏻
Love your channel ❤️😍
Just want to say that I love this channel and your family. I hope you're all doing well.
Thank you for all the time you put into these videos. Your advice has really helped me, and I have to say your blunt honesty is extremely appreciated and refreshing. ❤
Keep doing you!
I’m so happy to have found your super helpful funny videos yesterday. I have binged about 20 so far. You are awesome! Thank you from Australia.
Beautiful comment. I don't think she saw it!
I love to watch your videos over and over! You really are an enjoyable inspiration!!! I really want to thank you for being AWESOME & being so honest!
Thank you so much!!
Your videos are never too long. The apple crisp is the only way I’d eat oatmeal lol it looks delicious. Have you ever made chicken satay here’s a quick recipe. I’ve used thighs for this too and its delicious I hope you try it xx
2 tbsp peanut butter
7 tbsp soy sauce
7 tbsp lemon or lime juice
1 tbsp dark brown sugar
2 tbsp curry powder
2 cloves of garlic
1 tsp hot sauce of your choice
6 skinless boneless chicken breast
Cooking spray
Rice or flatbread and salad
Place all ingredients into a bowl add diced chicken and refrigerate overnight.
Take from the refrigerator and bring to room temp.
Spray a pan and cook gently until the chicken is cooked if the sauce is too thick you can add some water or stock.
Love the longer videos! No complaints here!
Your husband seems like an awesome helper.
So sweet! Your daughter is such a beautiful young lady. My daughter is 5 now and I know I'll blink and she'll be a teenager.
Absolutely love your channel!!! I have learned so much from you!!! Love your honesty and bluntness...don’t ever change!!
I love when your family joins you!
(I made my first lasagne last night and have figured out I loathe cottage cheese because I enjoy every lasagne that does not have it, and hate every one that does)
Also for the cookies, 15 min at 375 would have probably made quite a bit of difference to the first batch.
I would view the family or friends who refuse to eat my house as a blessing...a blessing that they just walked themselves right out of my life.
The way Dave looks at you is just so sweet ♥️
People will say kids are expensive but I never believed it. I have always been frugal and we got their clothes mainly at thrift stores and clearance. My motto was that if it lasted so long to end up in the thrift store, it has to be good quality. We have eight kids and never worried about name brands. Off brands are just fine especially diapers cuz you are right: they just hold crap.
Just discovered your videos and binge watching... love this one that includes your family... natural, fun, inviting. I can't stop watching.
I've been watching these older videos! I love your channel! Your so down to earth!
The best way to get a picky kid to try new things is to have them help in the kitchen.
Yes!
I absolutely love your videos! The longer the better! My mother in law gave me her recipe for Apple crisp. Hands down the best one I have ever tried. The topping is the best part in my book. We pour half & half or whipping cream over ours. Soo good! Now I want Apple crisp!
I enjoyed how your husband asked you questions as you assembled the lasagna pans! You never skipped a beat!
Everyone has flaws. You are perfect they way you are
