Lol. Just give him some drums to beat the frustration away. Steve has been my favorite drummer ever since I first heard Dirty. Dude's a rock star and still can travel anywhere without being hounded.
This is absolutely breathtaking. Easily the best Moore’s stuff since 2004’s Sonic Nurse. And it’s not *like* Sonic Youth all over again. This project does hold it’s own: these instrumental passages, the focus on chord progressions. Brilliant, complete musicianship.
Me too. 🤘 I was so starstruck, but somehow managed not to giggle like a school girl. He was extremely laid back - and very tall, but not as insanely tall as I thought, lol. I love this current band. You can never replicate Sonic Youth without all 4 members, but this is just as cool.
That actually was my dad. The reason behind it was because my dad's friend Pat used to tell that at every show they played in Chicago, but he passed away. So I honor he yelled that
The guy who yelled that out was clearly joking but the hardcore kids who berated Black Flag in the mid 80s for growing out their hair were clearly not.
Kim may have had the least talent, but she sure as fuck had some FANTASTIC ideas. Shadow of a Doubt, Kissability, Cinderella's Big Score, Brother James, and Shaking Hell to name a few of her songs. Tell me SY would have been better without those tracks. What the Devil are you smoking? You'd be hard pressed to find many people in the Sonic Youth fan community who would shit on Kim over the years. Quite the opposite actually. Thurston, Kim and Lee all had a dud song now and then. Sometimes a Kim song was actually a Thurston song to start, such as Doctor's Orders.
I love his delivery and extended looping measures. Progressively intensifies in the perfect places. Tha beautifully bottled up, mood swinging, manic sound that made me love sonic youth jus aint around anymore. Nice to see he's still writing an sounding pretty fuckin great at well...
Wow!as much as I love SY I was not even aware of this great “ extension of it “。.....I am ashamed of myself.....for two seconds ....I am so grateful I found this vid 🙏🏽🤘🏾🙏🏽
I saw MBV in 2013, one of their last tours AFAIK. I vividly remember the two salt-pillars on stage, Animal behind the kit, and the female version of Flea. If you've ever seen them live, you'll know which names go where. :-) Love to see Deb jumping on her feet again here. Very, very good bass player - which can be heard properly in the mix on all pre-Loveless recordings, basically. Loveless and MBV where albums that didn't do her justice.
Isn’t it not even her playing bass on Loveless and MBV? I thought Kevin shield’s basically took over during loveless and did all the parts himself, including drums made out of samples of Colm’s playing?
Мур конечно великий музыкант. Я обязан сюда вернуться, когда жизнь снова наладится и я снова могу послушать эту шикарную игру и вокал. Спасибо за творчество и это удивительное звучание в том числе и в Sonic Youth
You know what's more impressive than 20+ years being a guitar god? Being a wanker/youtube-commenter desparate for attention, slagging music that brings joy to many many people from all around the globe.
17:54 What amp is he playing through? I've been on a tone search for years. For SY tones. Basically his tone. I need an svt amp pedal thing. Brought Broughton makes one but I can't find it anywhere for sale.
Nah. I'd say 80%. :) And the 80-20 percent rule obviously applies. :) In other words, he may have been 99,9%, but this is nowhere near Sonic Youth. So I guess 0,1% goes a long way.
The interplay between Lee and Thurston was what made SY sound like it did. TMG's guitarist is playing leads very similar to Lee's all over this performance. Chelsea Light Moving was different. Lee's new music also has moments where it sounds just like SY. Thurston is still using the Murray Street tuning a lot too, so there's that as well.
The sunburst one is a vintage one from 1964. Seemed to become his favourite after his black one got stolen after a Chelsea Light Moving show. The green one is obviously one of his signature models.
I guess Thurston ended up with the custody of Steve Shelley.
Lol. Just give him some drums to beat the frustration away. Steve has been my favorite drummer ever since I first heard Dirty. Dude's a rock star and still can travel anywhere without being hounded.
@@sgg17003
Well they say when Thurston and Kim would argue it would always be Steve Shelley getting sad.
@@standinsilence lol. I can't wait for his rebellious phase.
That made me choke on the food i was eating

I saw this band on this tour.
It was like seeing Sonic Youth again.
Met Thurston, and got his autograph.
He’s very cool!

Steve will forever be my favourite drummer. His energy is unmatchable and he has such a blast when playing
you have not taken the zachpill i see
One of the few guitarists on whom the Jazzmaster looks like a small guitar.
j mascis as well
Wasn't he like 6,6?
Steve is still a boss on drums
He's always been basically a metronome.
and a great person as well.
He's a top drummer but I hope they remembered to deflate him at the end of the gig.
Cusp is crazy
17:51 " Get a haircut hippie" lmao. Even Thurston had to laugh at that.
And behold that reaction though .. classic !
That actually was my dad. The reason behind it was because my dad's friend Pat used to tell that at every show they played in Chicago, but he passed away. So I honor he yelled that
Sure
The guy who yelled that out was clearly joking but the hardcore kids who berated Black Flag in the mid 80s for growing out their hair were clearly not.
That was a great Rollins impression
Good job Pitchfork and thank you for the uploading!
steve shelley rules
Best indie rock drummer ever!
Ya he is actually insane
Thurston Moore has already 59 years old, he still looks young
Yeah he stills.... So many hair heheh with much energy, and creative sense of music.
Dammit I love Steve’s drumming!
Extraordinary. A bit like Ringo Starr, I mean drumming like melody.
best sonic youth cover-band in the world
HOSENSTRAPAZE you wish
It'd be cool if the did some SY songs
LOL. He just doesn't have the rest of the band anymore to stop him from ripping himself off.
I'll always love Thurston
Phillip Clemens what about when he killed sonic youth

ok, my first listening to this, and wow, love it, didnt even know this was a thing, great sound and songs, will look for more for sure

So sad this audience doesn't get it!! What a bummer that is for the bend. They deserve a more appreciative crowd!
Saw them in Brighton in June, absolutely brilliant

Keep coming back to this ... great gig.
LOVE watching Debbie! Always have.
Amazing Thurston Youth
we love electric guitars ❤ great set, Thurston!
A masterpiece.Thurston and Lee for ever.
Saw them last night in Brooklyn, and I had no idea Debbie Googe and Thurston have been playing together. What a nice surprise.

A cornerstone of the Music
Turn On is such an amazing track! It makes me cry it’s so good!!! Does that happen to anyone else?
I had the same reaction when I first heard it, and it's why I came back here 7 years later.
it's beautiful
This is quite good!
Steve Shelley an absolute unit
I would like to see drummer more often please dam he can bang.
Reggie Anglin that drummer is Steve Shelley of Sonic Youth fame, my friend and he does indeed kick ass behind a kit
One of the best no doubt. He (Steve Shelley) also plays on J.P. Shilo's latest brilliant album 'Invisible You'.
I love Thurston Moore.
A band of stars
This park is near my house. I remember hearing the concert. I think
this guy has spent years perfecting his quiet I'm a super intellectual introvert personality.
59 years youth
This is music for body and soul, mindblowing, incredible groovy work by Debbie Googe.
Holy shoegaze, is that the bassist from My Bloody Valentine!
tis the woman herself Debbie Googe nicely spotted
Zombie Killer yes, been on board since 2014's "the best day"
MBV has a bass player? Huh. I guess it rounds out the sound of the vacuums.
RyanJE lmao laughed to hard at that one
Zombie Killeraaa v,.vv.b.x

Saw them in Mtl and they kicked ass.
Great band, great performance, great songs! But why is the sound in mono, @Pitchfork?
2017-best live band out there.
what a band 😳😍😍
Masterful
Que bien que toca Beck...
Happy 60th birthday,Thurston.
You are a superb musician.
hope Deb googe got to see the homies in Ride since they all played p4k 2017, sort of a creation records reunion
Good music! Good performance! Bus is the audience enjoying themselves?
The best female bass player ever, Deb Googe!
what about khruangbin's bass
What about Kim Gordon man
Except maybe Tal Wilkenfeld. And Tina Weymouth.

don't care what anyone says. Chelsea Light Moving were rad!

it's a peavy roadmaster, same head as the amp on the left but on thurston's amp the logo is pulled off
it's hard to get a roadmaster, i use a peavey bandit red stripe and it does a good job
@@alexnajeraaaa will keep that in mind. I get an okay tone through a peavey classic 50w combo. Works pretty well with any pedal.
The bassist of my bloody valentine :D

six songs in 40 minutes

Nah. I'd say 80%. :) And the 80-20 percent rule obviously applies. :) In other words, he may have been 99,9%, but this is nowhere near Sonic Youth. So I guess 0,1% goes a long way.

what kind of jazzmaster is thurston playing?
Kukkahattu probably a 60's jazzmaster
He removed the tone circuit tho
Kukkahattu The green one is his signature Fender Jazzmaster
