To me this is Thurston's best stuff in years. I'm not saying the last few SY albums sucked, because they didn't, but I really dig the Chelsea Light Moving abum a lot.

Showed up late to see these guys at Black Cat in DC with my drummer, stoned outta our gourds and managed to wander right up to the stage... So loud, you don't get the full gut busted effect over laptop speakers, shit hits the viscera right well
Who could have thought that the SY split was actually good news? The best actually even got better. Epic stuff Thurston! It sounds provokingly familiar to what we know but has the surprise element of an unexpected erotic adventure.
This sounds so much like SY. And isn't that twin Jazzmaster guitars just like Thurston & Lee often played? And aren't there some clear echoes of specific SY songs here? Thankfully, the end of SY didn't mean Thurston would move off in quite different directions. If anything, CLM sounds like a return to the era of 20+ years ago when SY was doing more upbeat stuff, like on "Daydream Nation" & "Dirty" . To be honest, I'm not sure I'll miss hearing Kim's feeble screech all that much.
What Im trying to say is that its nice that he's musically preserved, this stuff is great, probably better than the last sonic youth stuff I listened too but I feel that as a 50 something year old he needs to look at him self and go serriously WTF have I thrown out !. He got counciling after cheating on Kim to help him out and he didnt respond. I mean Im sure theres 2 sides to every story but to me he just seems like a bit of a ego monster that no one is good enough for and a bit of lost soul :(
