A classic park, I'm glad it still gets love. With Thunderbolt, Cyclone, and Phoenix, it's a decent lineup. I will say they need a much better drop tower though, maybe a Larson Super Shot.
Since Luna Park is owned by zamperla, they would only get a zamperla drop tower, so Deno’s wonder wheel park would need to get that, which could happen if they find a way to expand again.

The Cyclone slaps really hard, fantastic ride. The pacing is impeccable! My issue with thunderbird is mainly that the straps painfully dig into my shoulders every time we go through an airtime moment or roll. If they were wider and padded the ride would be a lot more enjoyable. Also, it has the Skyrush problem where the lap bars pry down on the lower half of my thigh closer to my knee instead of the upper part by my hip. I agree that the layout is good and the airtime is quite strong.
Yay! Someone else is able to enjoy the Volares. I rode Time Warp before I knew that enthusiasts hate it. On all my rides, it wasn't painful, no headbanging. I liked it. I have not been to Coney Island yet. Hopefully soon

Cyclone is the first roller coaster I ever rode years ago, would have been in my 20s. I looked at it for a while to build up the nerve to get on. Totally scared me, but right back on it. I also remember the one called Thunderbolt, but back then I recall it was a wooden coaster which I tried after the Cyclone.

This would be a dream to go and visit. I live in Australia and there are no parks like this here. I have always admired very old and classic rides since I was very small. There is something very alluring and fascinating about very old , and probably considered "Antique" rides. Melbourne has a 100yr old coaster at Luna park but the park lacks warmth and character. This video was really enjoyable to watch - I saw steeplechase on some of my DVD collections of the old Steeplechase. Horses that are individual that would go around a monorail type track, that will be the 100 year old version unlike today. Ghost trains are such a valuable part of carnival history , it's so great to see the one at Coney Island still operating. Just beautiful - I know you did two years ago and I only just saw it , but I had to comment nonetheless because you made such a great video. ☺
i go to coney island every few months, but never do the rides. it's not my thing, so it's cool that i stumbled onto this video. i like your description of the rides, as for me, it's hard to know if they are good at CI, or just a money grab. glad to know the coasters, etc are legit. also, there's a few new changes this year, so you may need to update your list!
I haven't been to Coney Island since before they started offering wrist bands. I'm glad to see some typically upcharge attractions make the band. My biggest issue with Thunderbolt is the hard plastic and awkward contour of the back of the seats; otherwise it's a fantastic layout.
If you were going to do a review of this place, would it be on Coney Island as a whole or would you do two separate reviews for Luna Park and Deno's Wonder Wheel Park?
I like that Zenobio is high on the list! Definitely one of my favorite rides there in my personal opinion, it’s above the thunderbolt, but thunderbolt is still a great ride! I watched the view at night and it was breathtaking.
CI allowed me my first (and so far, only) experience on "Endeavor", the Enterprise-esque flatride that you can actually ride solo. Love that ride. Another flatride at CI that I have *not* yet been on but am curious about: Nebulaz.
My favourites at Coney Island would be Cyclone, Slingshot, and Zenobio. I also love Phoenix and Wonder Wheel at Deno's. Those 2 typically upcharge flat rides in the Screamzone section of Luna Park almost justify the cost of a wristband alone, given the cost if paying per ride and being that they're upcharge in most places. That said, I prefer the larger version of the Skyscraper model, such as Adirondack Outlaw at Great Escape. Speaking of which, if someone is faced with the decision of Great Escape or Coney Island I would actually recommend Great Escape. Comet has a storied history the same way Cyclone does, and even though Comet has those dreaded ratcheting lapbars they're actually not capable of stapling and you can use the seatbelt to jam them at the height of the seat divider (they can only go 1 click lower anyways). The steel coasters at both places are very much filler so they don't hold much weight (so I'd call coasters a draw, I slightly prefer Comet but not by enough for the decision to come down to that and I can certainly see why someone would go the other way on that), Adirondack Outlaw is easily the best flat ride between the 2, Great Escape seems to have preserved more of it's charm and certainly has better prices. The thing Coney Island has on Great Escape is that beach front setting...would make for an interesting park battle for sure.
@@CanobieCoaster Understandable, I would say both have a unique atmosphere with the storybook feel. I just think it would make an interesting comparison; an NYC vs upstate battle of parks more similar than most think. With Coney Island while I like it a lot I do take issue with standard cloned Zamperla rides from 2010 or newer bearing names like Tickler, Steeplechase, Thunderbolt, Astrotower, ect that have quite a history in Coney Island and the industry in general like they're trying to be those rides but so clearly aren't. Is it a nitpick? To some extent, yes. There's still Deno's for rides that aren't mostly cut and paste Zamperla rides in a lot of parks. But also, a lot of the Coney Island history was removed after it was corporatised by real estate investors and Zamperla. Great Escspe has preserved much of it's Storytown charm and the rides aren't a showcase of generic rides everywhere. I'm the type that wishes we had Astroland as it was in 2008 as well as the elements of Luna Park that are out of the bounds of where Astroland was.
Most of the rides at Coney Island now offer a new option, you can buy pictures of yourself on the rides when you get off the rides. Even inside the spooky house 😮 I have a picture of my grandson and I screaming inside the spooky house that brings laughs forever. Also, you can buy a video of yourself on the sling shot 😮 as well as a picture of the first drop on the Cyclone !
I visited Coney Island this year after a day at the Connecticut parks and I kind of fell in love with this place. We went to an event so we got ERT on Phoenix, a truly fantastic family coaster. Spook-a-Rama might be one of my favorite “cheesy” dark rides and Wonder Wheel is unlike anything I’ve been on. Luna Park had some fun rides such as Cyclone, a smooth, airtime packed machine, Soarin’ Eagle, an actually good Volare, and Thunderbolt, probably the best of the worst roller coasters I’ve ever been on. The flat rides at Luna Park were alright, I appreciate them for their uniqueness but besides that, they aren’t amazing. Other than that, I’d say these places are highly worth it and I definitely plan to go in the near future. I hope Luna Park gets that new coaster and flume next year! P.S: Try the lobster rolls. And go to the New York Aquarium!
I rode the cyclone with my choir, I couldn’t find them again afterwards and I was holding a headless doll, I already had a doll but she wasn’t headless beforehand, I still don’t know where the choir is, hm.
on thunderbolt, the employees staple you as hard as possible but the ejector air is insane too. I could tell if it had big bulky over the shoulder restraints it would be really rough, but it doesn't so it's not
I’m going on cyclone I’ve never been to Coney Island I’ve only been to 6 flags (I rode nitro, Superman, green lantern, Batman, joker, etc) and I’ve seen the cyclone videos and it doesn’t seem that bad of a ride tbh but that’s what most people say to most rides that they haven’t been on yet, but if you have been on cyclone is it crazy? Is it good?
Some of you guys think that I may be crazy but I went on the cyclone July of 1977 when I was 7 and 1/2 months pregnant with my daughter. Got off the cyclone went across the road had a mug of cold beer and went back on the Cyclone first car and my daughter was born in September of 77. What a nice experience. I'm almost 70 now but I would do it again but it has to be the first car.
@@CanobieCoaster we just took a chance, we planned to go to New YORK in May, just didn’t even give a thought about Luna Park not being open,,,,oh well, walked on the boardwalk, took a photo of me in front of Nathan’s Hot Dogs ,,,,,still an amazing trip, I haven’t been back since, ,,,,I love amusement parks, I’m from California, our Coney Island was Santa. Cruz Beach & Boardwalk,,,,,great memories as a child, but Coney Island goes back along way, thanks to TH-cam I can see the history……..Tobey
I didn’t know that Luna park was owned by zamperla tbh and thunderbolt seems pretty unique because zamperla doesn’t seem to make too many big thrill coasters and it kind of looks like a gerstlauer, also the name thunderbolt is usually used for classic wooden coasters
Zamperla has done a great job at helping Coney, however I think it's high time for the city to allow other ride manufacturers a chance at debuting their products at Coney. It's only fair, and makes for a better experience for the patrons.
I've done the exact same model of inverting frisbee at Waldameer, and it's my favorite non drop tower flat ride. The guy ran an insane cycle that made me grey out twice from the sustained Gs, and the several seconds of hang time was incredible. It inverted 7 times that ride. I think the ride op wanted to physically drain me as much as possible lol. It is the only flat ride that has caused me to grey out
Before watching: someone did a 2020 version of the top best rides at Luna Beach in Brooklyn New York NY. Was that you? When I stayed at my aunt's Brooklyn studio apartment (which was just the distance of the length of one block from the Subway line from Manhattan to Luna Beach) in September 2014: my aunt remembered (when I hadn't) that I was at least a latent coaster enthusiast at the time. So, my aunt and her husband decided to take me to Luna Beach in 2014 in September after labour day on a weekday, but them being not in a demographic that'd know that the park might be closed during weekdays after labour day; neither did I at the time. As a result: all the coasters were closed, but we did end up eating epic, fantastic, historic and delicious pizza at a place right across the street that's just as old if not older than Coney Island itself, which was good enough for all of us at the time. I'm happy to hear that the Cyclone uses single position lap bars. I also love the undivided cars with padded couch seating. From what I can see, The Coney Island Cyclone at Luna Beach is one of (if not) the only roller coasters in the world that features three cars per train AND quadruple bench (four rows per car) seating. While I can forgive double bench cars RMC use (for all but their single rail coaster designs), it's almost justifiable as the double bench cars most Intamin trains for all of their Mega, Hyper and even their two Giga coasters, or the triple bench cars like the prefab Intamin wooden coasters use. The OG Coney Island Cyclone at Luna Beach park is the only roller coaster that has FOUR rows per car for any roller coaster trains that feature at least three cars or more per train on any coaster that features a height of at least 85' and a drop almost if not just as big as 85'. While that doesn't sound like a positive "feature" for me; one must consider that in June 1927: The Coney Island Cyclone would have been considered to be the equivalent of Steel Dragon 2000 when it opened in August 1st 2000 for having the tallest, longest, and fastest layout of any full circuit coaster with one lift hill (even if Steel Dragon 2000 wasn't as good as Millennium Force, which also was a full circuit coaster with one hill that had a drop of 300' that opened May 13th 2000; almost three months before Steel Dragon 2000.) Lastly: I've always heard my dad brag about how good the Coney Island Cyclone was when he rode it in the 50s or 60s while my mom told me it wasn't just the 1st coaster she rode, but was in fact also the 1st coaster to put her off coasters for life when she rode it once in the 1950s or 1960s (That is, apparently, until she decided to ride the Bobsled Matterhorn at Disneyland in Jan.1977 and the Runaway Mine Train at Six Flags Great Adventure in July 1977). Both my parents have been divorced for 33.5 years. I'd LOVE to ride Cyclone at Luna Beach in Brooklyn New York N. Y. myself so I can actually have my own opinion of it.
Coney Island is OK at night but downright dismal during the day. It's a shame that the area really isn't worth a visit because Coney Island is steeped in the history of World Class amusement parks
@@CanobieCoaster I really enjoyed this content you produced. I'm just giving input, but you can completely ignore it, because you have tens of thousands of followers, so you must be doing something right! Treat recording audio from your script like you're creating a song. You'll do multiple takes and alterations and you can pick and choose which parts work better together. Those disparate recordings that might not be great, taken apart and put together can turn into something truly amazing. A hit song is made from dozens and hundreds of takes, parsed together. Same as film. Multiple takes and the best parts are put together to create more magic than any individual part. Good luck on your journey. 👍🏼

Wow!
Did your child have a birth defect
Never knew the park had some new rollercoasters
The new owners have added a lot.
Yay
Is this related to the Luna parks in Australia at all?
No
I literally saw the parachute jump next to the thunderbolt 😂
SBNO
Bumpercars in Brooklyn. You know the bass will kick ass. 😂😂😂😂
Yes!
Make sure it’s open, my one and only time I went to New York/Coney island in 2006, it was in May, the Amusement park wasn’t open yet,,,,,,,
That's unfortunate. Luna Park is good about updating their calendar.
Here are cyclone clones
Viper (six flags great America)
Psyclone (six flags magic mountain)
Georgia cyclone (six flags over Georgia)
Texas cyclone (six flags astroworld)
White canyon ( Yomiuriland)
Aska (Nara dreamland)
Bandit (movie park Germany)
Unknown (six flags great adventure, cancelled)
Bandit is a cyclone clone?!
@@DaanBruins yep
So many of them!
I actually like this video because I live in Coney Island
Nice!
I didn’t know that Luna park was owned by zamperla tbh and thunderbolt seems pretty unique because zamperla doesn’t seem to make too many big thrill coasters and it kind of looks like a gerstlauer, also the name thunderbolt is usually used for classic wooden coasters
I hope Zamperla can build more coasters and improve their tracking on the big ones.
No headbanging on Thunderbolt? Dang, when I went back in July 2021, the ride was unbearable for me because of the headbanging.
The straps are so soft and low that they don't touch my head. It definitely jostles you.
Zamperla has done a great job at helping Coney, however I think it's high time for the city to allow other ride manufacturers a chance at debuting their products at Coney. It's only fair, and makes for a better experience for the patrons.
I don't mind Zamperla owning it since they're continuously investing.
Surprised that the flume ride did not make your list. I would have put that in the top five rides there
The old one wasn't very good. The new one looks like it'll be good, but it hasn't opened yet.
I absolutely hated thunderbolt, it was jack hammering and gave me a headache. Maybe they improved it somehow in the last 6 years?
I know they made improvements after year 1.
To bad the Parachute Jump isn't working. That was a Great ride too. 🙂
It's just an icon at this point.
Best ride ever was the 'Bobsled.' If you'd been on it, you know what I mean.
The old Polar Express?
I agree with most of your opinions
Nice!
When you go to Coney Island it feels like you do want to going to come ride but you don't
I love the rides there.
A Himalayan flat ride not being in Brooklyn is a travesty. You know the bass would kick ass and some more going forward and then backwards!! 😂😂😂
It would. Polar Express used to look cool.
Warriors home,Coney Island.♥️
Great place.
It is the only flat ride that has caused me to grey out
Waldameer does run their's for a long time.
Looks like non of the independent rides were good enough to make the list... What independent rides are there actually?
Eldorado made the list. There are also Go Kart tracks and a pirate ship.
I love Coney Island the rides
Great rides!
This is the first countdown I've made for Coney Island. Cyclone really is a special ride.
When I was little I’ve never seen some of these ride in my life
This park has a lot of modern flats.
I like all the rides in the park accept soarin Eagle
When I Went On It It Was Extremely Painful fore me 🤕
I know most people hate Volares, but I don't mind them.
The Slingshot at Steel Pier has more powerful moments when you end a flip
I haven't done that one.
@@CanobieCoaster it’s better
My first roller coaster was the Atlantic avioter and I was screaming
That's a good flat.
That one arm on the 14th tho...
Lol
You should go to my 3 Home Parks
Santa's Workshop
Elitch Gardens
Lakeside amusement park
I intend to visit Colorado next year.
U forgot the bungee jump 😅
The little jump pad?
@@CanobieCoaster Maybe idk
0:00 TONEY ISLAND???
Coney Island
This park is like a public testing ground for zamperlas newer ride models
It pretty much is.
LMFAOOO the thunderbolt harness or seat belt be tight asf but it’s a good ride ig 🤷🏽 and the cyclone is a neck breaker in the back seat 🤣🤣🤣
Cyclone's roughness doesn't phase me. It's actually smoother than you'd expect given its age.
It’s expanding for next year
Yes, I saw the ride pieces by Thunderbolt.
Clockworz is my favorite
It's a visually stunning ride.
I haven’t been to New York before
Worth visiting!
@@CanobieCoaster I can’t drive myself someone has to drive me there or I’ll have to take the train
Why did they move Polar Express ride at Coney Island why did they move it
They removed it. That plot is where Phoenix is.
i love circus coaster
It's a decent junior coaster.
wild wonder wheel
Surprisingly wild.
The Wonder Wheel ride why don't move ride Shake I was on this ride one time
I love the swinging cars.
I live in New York City!
Nice!
MY FAVORITE RIDE AT CONEY ISLAND IS THE TICKLER
That's a fun one.
Memories Sea Gate Grandmother
Glad you have great memories.
Warriors come out to playyy ayyy
That team scares me in the NBA playoffs.
Coney Island is OK at night but downright dismal during the day. It's a shame that the area really isn't worth a visit because Coney Island is steeped in the history of World Class amusement parks
I like the atmosphere day and night.
Should've gotten a B&M.
I think their lineup is solid.
Cyclone is the first roller coaster.
It's an old one.
@@CanobieCoaster oh, I c.
Try to have a bit more inflection and variance when you're speaking in your videos.
Thanks, I will try.
I don't want to die man...
The rides are safe.
This is a new ride of the Phoenix that yellow and red new ride I would get on it and I will not get on it
Phoenix is smooth and fun.
"they dont sleep anymore on the beach..." 😭😭😭
When was that said?
@@CanobieCoaster sleep by godspeed you! black emperor
This is honestly one of the most dull looking parks I’ve ever seen lol. Sucks that Zamplera owns it. It could be a fantastic looking park if they just did more with it.
I like the park myself. Cyclone and the atmosphere make it memorable.
