The YM is a stunning, grail-level piece. Nothing against the AT, but it just pales in comparison to the Rolex. Yacht-Master wins by a mile.

I’ve tried on the Yachtmaster and I really liked the blue dial and the size of the watch. The bezel I found a bit bright. It was definitely tempting though. I liked it a lot more than I thought I would.

Omega all day in this comparison although both are beautiful watches. Also I’ve read in forums that dirt and grime collect on the bezel of the Yachtmaster.

Pete, I have owned and wear nearly daily this model of the Yacht-Master for over a year. I use it for boating and general use that ranges from office work (I teach business for a university) and working on my boat. I have not found any issues with dirt and grime collecting on the bezel.

It's a weird comparison as these are two different watches. Although the idea behind each is similar the Yacht Master is a dressed up dive watch while the Aqua Terra has no resemblance to a dive watch. A more direct competitor would be the 300M as Omega makes them in dressy precious metal versions too.

I finally have my Rolex but as Tim says the cyclops is annoying, I hear people always complain about the Helium escape valve on Omega divers but the cyclops is worse because you have to deal with it when ever you read the time. The Escape valve eventually becomes invisible to the owner.

Personally, I’m thinking about the AT. Omega just released a Worldtimer version in steel, which makes for a very different comparison. This being said, anybody who is capable of dropping 10K+ on the Rolex Yacht Master is likely to own more than one expensive watch. The AT seems like a more reasonable choice, for a person who wants a really nice, versatile sports watch at a less exorbitant price.

My 116622 Blue Yachty kills it. I love this watch. Definitely the top of my collection. I have a Tudor BB41 that takes the place of the Aqua Terra and does it with the snowflake hands and no date making it even better.

  • @DavidDatura

The Rolex is the far more handsome watch here I think, the Omega has a much more sophisticated movement and there’s that stealth charm about it too. But the latest Yacht Masters have an upgraded movement that’s nearly on par in sophistication as that in the Omega. Tipping the scales in favor of the Rolex here that bit more.
As for the constant complaints pertaining to the cyclops date magnifier, leave it alone already! It’s a long running Rolex trademark, isn’t really that bad and is quite useful. Don’t like it, get a no-date Rolex instead. My top 2 everyday Rolex’s would be the Yacht Master (in the steel/platinum here) and the Explorer 1. I’d be delighted with either.

good comparison. Omega for me, i have one, but the Rolex was on the list. I just don't like the bezel (although I do like the fluted day-date bezels). The overall look of the Omega dial and hands. plus, as a bonus, the movement looks nice and Rolex has solid casebacks which is a considerable drawback for me. Also, i love butterfly clasp. People seem to love the Rolex clasp but I love the look and fit of butterfly clasp, which I discovered when I got a Tissot (my first watch), I've been hooked since.

I found this article which explains amplitude well. Basically, two main springs are intended to provide more accurate timing throughout the duration of the power reserve. Interestingly, I believe Omega has gone back to using one in many movements. wahawatches.com/watch-talk-whats-the-amplitude-of-a-watch/

gosh this is such a hard choice, but probably the omega because it appeals to me in the sense that im around a lot of guitars and amps and stuff and that magnetism could affect the time keeping part of it no? haha i love them both. but.. omega just has always had a sweet sport with me even as a kid. certain rolex models are better. and i have to say the yacht master is one of my very favs. and platinum smurf !

I'ma Audamars Piguet Fan but I've recently became a fan of da 40mm Rolex Yachtmaster 116628, 116623, & 116622... While I was searching 4 a good deal on a mint condition (007 limited edition) Omega Aqua Terra I discovered da Yachtmaster 116628 & instantly became a fan of it, I've never have been too fond of a Rolex, da Presidential DayDate & da milguass where da only models I found interesting... I neva liked da submariner bcus of dat insert, I actually thought dats what da Yachtmaster was when I 1st saw it, bcus I've neva seen 1 in any jewelry, watch, or Rolex store I've been in, I would only see da yachtmaster 2 I didn't kno there where 2 different versions of it... I ended up bein stupid by going with da Omega bcus it was a limited edition but dey where both in da 5k price range but now da Rolex 116622 in platinum has doubled in price 2 weeks after I decided to purchased da Omega, Rolex is always go hold it's value & dey are great investment pieces I knew dat I jus wasn't expecting a increase in its value would happen so quick I was goin to wait until this month to get it now its 10k "smh" for da platinum Rolex Yachtmaster 116622 & I'm mad as fuck bcus this is Rolex most luxury watch but it is also their poorest selln watch next to da Milguass... Dats really anotha reason I lik da Yachtmaster & da Milguass it's bcus dey aren't commonly seen & I'm a odd ball & 1 thing I kno is when erbody ova due sumn & dey get tired of seeing erbody doin da same thang dey move on to sumn else or sumn new

I have the YM but I think they’re both great watches and it depends on what suits the individual. The YM can work better as a dress watch, but the Omega has a bit of a work professional look about it.
I do think the cyclops magnifier is redundant. On my ym I could easily read the date without it. And I think it would be better without the cyclops there.

  • @pukenanginang

Both have its own market. Rolex is definitely the winner here. Just wondering why this particular YM blue dial doesn’t come in a smaller sz compared to other YM 40 like the rhodium and rose gold.

Comparing brands, I strongly back Omega as they pack a lot of beauty and tech into a very competitive price point. But this particular YM model is so damn good looking that I dont find many watches competing with it. Funny side note, it made me so happy hearing so many people back the SM300m in the versus battle with the Sub. Stay away from the YM and I will almost always back Omega :)

    As always, great video Tim.
Im considering rolex or omega for a solid one versatile watch . Aqua terra or globemaster from omega and Op 39 or datejust for rolex. But i do find myself gazing at the yachtmaster everytime I pass the rolex store's window.
It is a really handsome piece , and just became more luring with the new movement presented this year. The bezel looks great but the fact that is made of platinum and is more prone to scratches worries me abit. plus no mention here for the action of the bezel, it sounds to me more creamy than sharp.
The thing with rolex is that somehow i would feel more comfortable taking it swimming even if it is rated to 100m rather than 150 of the aqua terra . i think it might have to do with rolex reputaion and their superb reputation but still i will fear water intering the aqua terra more.
last is the bracelet. Rolex make the best stell bracelets in the business hands down. I still remember the first time i put a rolex on in a store and it just felt..right, organic as if it was tailored for me. Omega i think are still behind on that front. That said i think it is abit unfair to consider EVERY 3 link bracelet a rolex ripp off. Its kinda like considering every 4 wheel vehicle a ripp off from the very first car with 4 wheels. I mean there can be only few variations of bracelet link number in the thousands of watches out there. don' thin rolex should take the credit for all. But the do perfect it that is true.
