    People who need good battery performance should look at the ULV dual core ZBook. You are giving up four cores but the battery life is phenomenal! The only question, is the trade off worth it? I guess it comes down to what you need and want out of a mobile workstation and that depends on what people do in their individual situation. That said, the quad core ZBook Studio is designed for content creators snd the professional market segment who can’t wait for their work to catch up with them.

    Do appreciate all the honesty, Mike. Appears that you had a fair bit of hesitation on this laptop.

    And here we are in late 2022 and I just bought a used one because it runs Windows 7 with iGPU driver support - no longer possible in subsequent generations (without a lot of work.)

    Good video! I haven't been able to use fingerprint on this PC even after downloading the fingerprint driver. What up?

  • @martijnvangammeren1868

    It really depens on the tasks you do on battery. I have the 'normal' 15" G3 and if i do office stuff, browse a website i can get to about 5hours on battery. But if you start kicking it's ass yes, you see it draining.
    Overal they are great laptops! I realy like the keyboard and having a numpad is also great. There is also a 'ultrabook' version of the zbook and they are also very capable. But it is true that MacOS does a better job with opening and closing the laptop. Though you can adjust things in the BIOS. Also, the fingerprint is handy for me as a network admin. I do not need to type in the long passwd i just swipe and log in :)

    how about heat and fan noise?

    • @RGBHQCOM
      @RGBHQCOM  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      never noticed too much heat, no worse than MBP, also preferred the fan noise of the HP, that said the fans would be on more than the Mac, but generally fans were quiter

    • @emmbns
      @emmbns 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just bought one of the Zbook g3 and the fan is quite noisy and the Pc gets on hot.It seems to be a persistent issue with this module.I have been on the HP forum and most people are complaining about it.Never had such issue?

      this is zbook studio. Also depending which cpu you have and what is the power profile set in windows. That basically controls fan activity.

    Great review man! I do have a question though. I've read in other reviews that the keyboard area gets really hot during heavy use, have you experieced this as well or isn't it as bad as they make it out to be?

    I use macs 95 percent of the time, but I still like using Sony Vegas Pro (now Magix) over any of the other programs. Have you done any testing with this program? It's interesting, you like the keyboard, many others didn't.
    Now that you've used the HP for awhile, would you purchase it again ... or maybe a workstation like Dell 5510.
    Again, thanks, great video.

    good honest review. of course, there is a personal component. I rather have the Macbook Pro Retina panel, it is one of the highest quality panels in the market in my opinion. I rather stare at that beautiful panel while waiting the render, vs staring at that dim kind of sad looking HP panel even if for a shorter amount of time. Of course, I am not sure if you have the dream color panel in the HP.
    premiere is a fair point. Premiere loves CUDA cores of the Nvidia cards.
    in all your review, should be a very useful headsup for Mac as they prepare their refresh to the Macbook Pro.

    For adobe premiere editing would you recommend the 4k Dreamcolor display over the standard 4k display? Dream Color is an extra $200 USD. Worth it?

    • @NormanF62
      @NormanF62 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh definitely! It won an Academy Award and the contrast here is like day and night and once you see a DreamColour display, ordinary displays appear mediocre by comparison. If your living involves dealing with accurate colours, you need a display that helps you figure out how a scene should be composed. Especially when you’re making or editing a video, that can make a real difference.

    Good review Mike. Been using it since May 2016 and it's still impressing.
    The unit I have is having 6820HQ with 4K and Z Turbo Drive G2. And it's leaving my Z800 (with dual xeon 5580) in the dust.
    Displaying it to additional Dreamcolor as 2nd display and it brings me the most out of the hardware.
    I must agree that the hardware combination inside of it are just marvelous in delivering performance on mobile.

    • @parkflyerindonesia
      @parkflyerindonesia 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      BTW, try to play with the power-performance management and get the most out of the settings on battery. It will give you more lifespan, Mike. Got mine up and running on heavy tasks up to 3 hours with my own power management settings. With maximum battery settings, it gives me around 5-7 hours nonstop on use.

    Nice Video ! Was Looking for something like this for so long! :D
    I am considering to buy this Laptop. I just have two Qs. About the life battery, how is it in a normal use? Like not pushing the laptop through rough processes. And the second Q. How loud is the noise of the fans while working compared with the mac?
    Thanks for the video! I really like :)

    • @RGBHQCOM
      @RGBHQCOM  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi thanks for the feedback, I never really tested the battery life for general use, but on the whole I would assume a 2/3 amount of battery time compared to the mac. The Battery definitely dropped off faster than compared to the MAc.
      As for noise, the fans are on a lot more than the mac, but I don't find the noise as intrusive as with the mac, on the whole the fan noise doesn't spike up and down as much.

    Hi Mike! I'm considering this machine for editing. I mostly use Premiere, but do use After Effects for some basic graphics. If you had to guess based on your experience, how long do you estimate the battery could last if you were editing a couple layers of proxy footage with a few graphics and a few layers of audio? Thanks for the review!

    • @RGBHQCOM
      @RGBHQCOM  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, I would reckon no more than 2 hours to be safe, it would depend on the type of footage, etc

      I bought this laptop in May 2016 shortly after it was released and was forced to return it about 3 weeks later at the loss of over $400 for a restocking fee. And the #1 reason was because of how bad the battery was. I used it mainly for Premiere and After effects, and was very excited at the potential performance increase from my 2013 Macbook Pro. Unfortunately the battery was so bad it made it completely unrealistic to use. Exporting a couple 5 minute long 2K videos in Media encoder would crush about 75 - 80 percent of the battery life in just 10-20 minutes. Not only does the battery die incredibly fast, it also takes extremely long to charge. When I plugged the machine in and continued to work in Premiere or After Effects, the battery would just hold at the percent it was at, and at best, would only go up maybe 1 - 2 percent per hour. Between the battery and some other hiccups I ran into while out in the field with Windows unreliability, I was ecstatic to return to my reliable 3 year old Macbook Pro and its 10 hour battery life.

    Nice presentation. I'm looking for a laptop for video editing probably Da Vinci Resolve 16 or Premier CS6 and struggling with the idea of paying £1500 - £2000. I've seen these as used items on E bay for around £700 and wondering if it will suit my needs? Thanks for the tutorial!

      The ISV certified high end software optimised to work on mobile workstations is more expensive than the mobile workstation itself. If you’re a professional, you’re paying for that too because in one’s line of work, nothing but the best will do.

      The unit in the review is the G3 Studio,
      Zbook G3 15 and G3 17 are different machines, they are bulkier, with an extra disk slot ( not 100% sure on this ) and support up to 64GB of ram ( the studio variant supports up to 32 ), you can easily identify them by the touch pad as they have buttons.Also check HP page for a comparison and check the differences.

    • @StephanieHa89
      @StephanieHa89 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have the ZBook 14 G2. Everything is upgradeable including RAM, NvME PCle SSD (Primary OS for SSD), and the empty slot next to battery can be used for a 2nd SSD like Samsung EVO. That is my setup. Well worth the investment and eBay sells the ZBook 14 G2 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD (NvMe PCle) for ~$400. Better getting that model with i7 5th generation and add your 2nd SSD for more storage.

      Many companies use win 7 pro to date. It is really good in many ways and too many professional enterprise programs are only compatible with win 7 pro so far. Win 10 is kind of unnecessary if you are "only" using your laptop for professional work.
