This level was so damn hard but the song made it worth replaying over & over. That part with the rising water can get fucked though, this song isn't in that part to comfort me lol
so eroic an melancholic sounds like a fallen hero that get up again to fight, this sound in the most epic levels, the fight against the eskeleton dragon, and that stage with a beautiful pink sunrise, it is that theme that was made to be the best, its the highlight of the game
para mi los japoneses son unos heroes por hacer obras maestras como estas de castlevania o el soundtrack de contra. yo he trabajado en hacer musica con 8 bits en la universidad y es bien canson y tedioso...
I remember getting my ass beat all the time by the bone dragon. I'm glad to say that I've finished this game once on my old NES. I got the ending where Trevor and Sypha got married.
I tend to put more importance into the melody of video game music myself, and while the added bells and whistles on the Famicom sound technically great and can add some personality to certain tracks, for the most part they hinder the main melody for my taste. I consider both soundtracks good, but I rather have simplistic but clear music.
No the Famicom version is better. The added sound channels lend a harmony just as catchy as the melody. NES version is still pretty good though. It's remarkable Konami was able to translate a soundtrack for a different soundchip to the NES so well.
I remember when I heard this theme for the first time because it was so beautiful and unexpected. Not to say that the other themes aren´t beautiful, but this one has a different tone to it. I was probably 8 or 9 years old, I just stopped playing for a while and listened.
It's commendable how well Konami's sound team translated the songs to the NES, despite each song originally using 3-more sound channels on the Famicom. I've always preferred the Famicom version, but it's impressive nevertheless.
I finally figured out why I have such a huge problem with the NES version's tracks. Yes, I prefer the way VR6 was utilised in the Famicom version, but even for 8-bit songs these belong in early NES libraries. Later titles can sometimes outdo themselves (see Sunsoft stuff like Batman), even with "inferior" ports (TMNT2). Castlevania 3 was released near the end of the NES's lifetime, and while the gameplay is a marked improvement over the last 2 entries (and next one, but I digress), the soundtrack is just the same quality with more quantity. At least Grant gets a melee knife. What's odd is even after playing both versions, I'm not sure which Grant I prefer. Having both projectile knife+axe helped a lot while melee knife sometimes helped.
Well, they are not the most impressive tracks from the technical perspective, but they are extremely catchy and full of emotions. I've heard a lot of impressive chiptune (and I've been making my own for a while) but while I appreciate the effort, I won't listen to these tracks. But I'm always up to blast CV3 OST in my headphones, even if it's a NES version, it's just that good. And it's not a nostalgia: I've discovered this game quite late in my life.
@sabremasterzero My favorites are Aquarius (this one), the first stage music, Deja Vu (aka Castlevania 3's version of Vampire Killer from the original Castlevania), and the one titled Stream. Mad Forest is also great.
@sabremasterzero You don't like Mad Forest? I really like that one but not as much as this one, Stream, or Vampire Killer. Anyway, everyone is entitled to their own opinion so I got no problem with that. I would really have to take a lot of time to choose my favorite Castlevania song. It would most likely be something from the first 4 games (on NES & SNES). I have to play the MSX version of Castlevania again.
@explod2A03 I wish I could get a clean shot of the box to Batman Returns for Sega CD since I want to upload the soundtrack to that game (a very good one too). But the only one I found had dents on the box. I'll probably take a screenshot of the title screen & use it as a still rather than a shot of the box.
No because the lead writer flat out said he didn't like the character and had no idea how to work him into the story. A tragic fate for our acrobatic knife thrower.
You know this song gives me bad PTSD memories just because of the boss part and the water rising OOOOH i hate that part so much love this song but ooh is it frustrating.
It sounds like Alucard's on a determined mission to stop his father Dracula while having conflicting thoughts about it at the same time, but ultimately decides he's still going to carry out his quest to stop him.
I just realised that there are only a few re-releases of this game. And all of them are digital which are also all dead i think. Except for castlevania anniversary collection. (Only on switch) and the game on the nes is starting to get pretty pricey.
Oddy enough I first heard this in Pac-Guy (an early meme game) as a crusty MIDI with zero context. Stuck with me for years, elated when I found out it was Castlevania.
I know this is weird, but I like to do the Belmont walk to the catchiest Castlevania songs. XD
SAME HERE
What do you mean catchiest? they are all catchy.
Hah! Good point!
not alone
Nope, perfectly normal to do.
This level was so damn hard but the song made it worth replaying over & over. That part with the rising water can get fucked though, this song isn't in that part to comfort me lol
Alucard makes things easier though use him especially for the rising water
@@gabrielr.9590 Grant too
I heard the death music so many times playing this level
Castlevania 3 was the first castlevania i played and i was instantly hooked with the game and music
Loli
Me and the boys doing the belmont walk in sync to this music.
I love this version and also the Castlevania Circle of the Moon mix of this song!
So many good songs in this soundtrack! Every time I try to think of a favorite, I find myself thinking "oh wait, but there's..." ;)
We all know hands down which one is the best... it's "I am the wind", isn't it?
I know! Clocktown bloody tears and this one really stand out
the smash version of this is really good
It's probably the one I like the least, buy yeah, there's no shame when you look at the competition.
I agree. For me it is my favorite, but it also the one I listened to first
One of the greatest!
Los niveles más dificiles de castlevania 3
3. Nivel despues de las catacumbas donde se escucha la musica del barco
2. Aquario
1. el penúltimo nivel.
Para mi el mas difícil es ese escenario donde caen los bloques, tarde como 2 dias en completarlo
I always opened up the secret music menu to listen to this song
Aquarius is legendary... its right up there with bloody tears imo
Maybe because they sound similar
And Vampire Killer.
and beginning
It's pretty good, in the top 3 of the dracula's curse ost, but it's not bloody tears. And it isn't wicked child either.
Or Wicked Child
IMO the best music in the entire game!
One of my favorite Castlevania songs !
so eroic an melancholic sounds like a fallen hero that get up again to fight, this sound in the most epic levels, the fight against the eskeleton dragon, and that stage with a beautiful pink sunrise, it is that theme that was made to be the best, its the highlight of the game
este tema tambien sale en castlevania circle of the moon

This series is the reason I started lucid dreaming.
Maybe, one day, I will get one and see the Castlevania events myself... MYSELF..!
I remember getting my ass beat all the time by the bone dragon. I'm glad to say that I've finished this game once on my old NES. I got the ending where Trevor and Sypha got married.
all i wanted to do was whip dragon skulls furiously to this track.

drokan bazckos i shat. poop came out my asshole. and then i wiped off whatever was left on my anus. it was so hot and uncensored.
Prometheus Spanky
i'm incredibly happy for you
You know shit starts to get real once you hear this in game
i thought this was the best track in the universe for some years when I was a kid
Am i the only one who prefers NES version? this just sounds cleaner.
FC version adds a whole bunch more sound channels but they mostly just serve to muddle the core melody

@Ashwin Ash Nice. Rare to see a fellow Tamil on especially such a niche topic as this

I associate this song with tension and stress ..

Circle of the Moon - Aquarius
It's commendable how well Konami's sound team translated the songs to the NES, despite each song originally using 3-more sound channels on the Famicom. I've always preferred the Famicom version, but it's impressive nevertheless.
This and Kraid's Lair are my two favorite NES songs.
Hell ya kraids lair is super good
Absolutely beautiful...

The stage is very frustrating, but hearing this song over and over again keeps you going.
One of my favorite castlevanias this tune is awesome epic nostalgic and I never will forget it heard this when I was 6 years old when it was released
Love this theme, but it also gives me Nam flashbacks.
Best song in the game
me gusta mucho el tema aquarius es mi track favorito
Bloodstained Curse of the Moon brought me here. It’s stage 7 theme reminded me of this awesome classic
Up next: Super Smash Bros Ultimate!
This theme was used in that very difficult balcony stage where the axe knights and pitfalls were plentiful.
Love the music to this stage but gad damn is it hard as shit!! Especially the boss battle... 😤
@sabremasterzero
My favorites are Aquarius (this one), the first stage music, Deja Vu (aka Castlevania 3's version of Vampire Killer from the original Castlevania), and the one titled Stream. Mad Forest is also great.
Aaaah This song is remind of when i was kid
Props to the composers who managed to cut the VRC6 expansion without crippling the music
I don't think they were successful
Awesome

Apparently this got included in HOD... Totally deserved, awesome classic video game music.
EDIT: Oh, this was in COTM too I guess.

I love Aquarius Ruin!
It’s goin’ down!
So will grant ever show up in the Netflix series ?
Dude I was wondering that too! The writer said something along the lines of "he's in this world, he exists." So maybe somewhere down the line.
Unfortunately they they spat on this legendary IP with unfaithful adaptation a fanfiction Warrenvania

One the best.
NES games had some of the best music
It sounds like Alucard's on a determined mission to stop his father Dracula while having conflicting thoughts about it at the same time, but ultimately decides he's still going to carry out his quest to stop him.
"I will save the day, and i will make this go away, check out my awesome skills... Don't you know about the belmonts, im guessing ya dont!"

To think the amazing Netflix anime actually spawned from an NES game that little kids played...
NO! This belongs in a MegaMan game! It’s WAY TOO GOOD for Castlevania!
Are you implying Castlevania isn't good?
This song fits better with the sunken stage then that other level in the upper path.
