Mike thank you for sharing your knowledge, today I have replace my DX4 head print of a XC-540. A little fear at first but following your instructions I have done it with no complications. A little tricky enter the service menu, I have entered my head rank and notice the techie who replaced one head before have not entered the head rank so I entered it today. Just a final step I´m working on, head alignment but at firs impression everything is ok. I have to bought you a beer, you´re the man!
Hey Mike, just want to say thanks for the video, you helped me get my SP300v up and running after sitting for a few years. One question I have tho is: what would cause the printer to print perfectly at 15” but if if I print past that the images become misaligned? Thanks again for your videos! Keep it up 🤘🏻

Awesome video, best SP540V head replacement video on TH-cam. I have a question, near the end of the video when you are doing the alignment tests, I see that you are entering 1/2 numbers, like 20 1/2, how do you enter the 1/2? the last time i made the adjustments, i was thinking you could only enter the full number like 20 or 21. Thanks again.
Yep, after I install my new M/Y head and was doing the alignment procedure, I found that is has 1/2 options between the full number options. Thanks for the reply. Another question, after installing the mew M/Y head I see ring of magenta around where the brown part sit on the meat frame, what could cause that? I don't see any on the B/C print head.
hi there, your videos are extremely informative. i have a roland lef20, with the dx4 printheads. my gloss n white is completely gone after manual cleaning with the sponge n solvent. CMYK is perfectly fine though. i've been able to suck ink out from the captop, the white seems to be coming out while i dab the printhead with the sponge (the gloss i can't really see), but the head is just not firing (the heads are moving when i try to print, versa works ink status say it has plenty of ink, which i think its only at 1/3 ) any idea what could be the problem??? where i am isn't that easy to get help, and i've never changed a printhead before ( not just its delicate work and expensive, but i have to mail it over and do it myself, which is nerve wreaking) so i hope its something easy that i may have overlooked. thank you so much for the videos again
@@reprint217 hello, thank for the reply, i'll still lost with the printer. I've tried replacing the cables, and replacing the print head.. ( still no luck, n because its not firing at all, i can't even align the new print head ) watched multiple times your transistor video, n i just don't think i can do it on my own..... if i can get my hands on a carriage board, do you think replacing the carriage board will be easier for me??
Hi, great video. I was able to change both heads on my SP-540i after watching this....however I have the same issue as you had, only the Black and Cyan head firing when doing a test print. I've replaced the printer carriage board but still the same. You mentioned a bad fuse or transistor on the main board which you fixed. Any pointers on how I can do that?
On the mainboard of a 540i there are fuses check them first. You can easily remove and swap them around and see if magenta yellow will fire. You will need to be in service mode or will get a temp to low error
Hey! Thank you for the video. Replaced the 4th printhead on a LEF-300 as there is no ink from the white whatsoever. After 4 powerful cleanings still no white and none in the replaced damper. I can draw white out with syringe before the dampers. Any ideas? I'm thinking fuse but I can't find the service manual for this unit. Btw all the screws on these printers are JIS not Phillips so a nice JIS set like the sunflag on amazon will go a long way.
Ok, troubleshooting an Lef300 number one is that if it were a fuse you would be getting nothing from 2 heads. You have flow at the line but none to the damper. Did you replace the damper stay that holds down the damper? Sometimes they sit up high and draw air. I'd lean towards captop. Connect syringe to captop hose if its getting air, wiggle head carriage by hand see if can get good suction. For captops premier colour is my go to. Email me at signworx217@gmail.com I'll shoot you over service manual
Good day. I am new to the Roland printers,we have a old Sp300v. In the 6 months we have had the printer we have replaced a print head as well as the print head bearings. As we where getting scan motor errors. Ok the bearings was bad. But now we still get the scan motor error every now and then. But seems to alwys be at the same place. Previously it was at random intervals all over the printer. Should i replace the scan motor aswell?
Me again, anyone here have an idea for this? LEF-300 with CMYKPrGlW setup absolutely no gloss or white, but good primer output (so some of group B works). Pulled the mainboard, tested fuses and fets, all good. Replaced #4 printhead twice. Replaced carriage board, no change. New genuine captops, good suction, seems to pull ink during powerful cleaning on group B. All brand new ink. Flushed with cleaning cartridges. At this point theres not much to throw at it but ribbon cables (impossible to find) and a main board ($$$).
Oh man, it sounds like you are having too much fun. You're in one of the situations I hate to be in, especially on these LEF machines. Let me think of what I would do next. I would carefully remove all cables to insure I didn't create any new problems. Only keep 2 cables that are supposed to go in a color head and place in the white / gloss head. Do they fire now? If yes I can tell its something coming from the back, mainboard/carriage board. If it does not, that tells me head is the issue. But if it does fire. Take the head cables from the white/gloss and place in a known working color head. Does it fire? Just a process of elimination at this point.
Thank you! But it would be nice if someone else hold the camera and perform the video recording! Its very difficult to see your action when you are moving, talking and working together!
Hi Boss, I bought the same Roland Sp 540v to you like 3 yrs ago, I think that I need to replace the print head, can you help me with that, I already have two brand new original Printhead.
In the video at minute 13, you said that the motherboard has a problem with the transistor. I have the same problem, I installed both new heads, new original dupers and captops. How did you fix those transistors?
Soldier in new transistors just make sure they are the same. There are 2 variations on that board a PNP transistor and an NPN A1746 and C4131 make sure you replace with same model transistor.
Hello, I have the same problem, after installing an unlocked print head this head don't print and I have the same test print as you. fuse's on mainboard are okay, what else can i check? it's on a sp-300v
Typically, if the fuses are good, the transistors are as well. Can he take head cables from good head and move them to the other head? If you bought the printhead used , it is likely the head 99% of the time
Anything aftermarket is hit and miss. Very inconsistent batches. They caused us more trouble than they were worth. Stopped using them couple of years ago. If you decide to try, don't give up and write the head off as bad!

Mike, if the vertical is missing alignment slightly like your Magenta, you turn both the white knobs instead moving the print head physically
You can but mine the actual metal was stuck from age kinda welded itself in place
