    From the level of someone a lot slower than Nils, all I can add is that the 1.6 update from whatever angle you look at it in your personal "what I'm looking forward to" position is much improved from 1.5 and for me is a much more enjoyable experience to drive and spend time with. :)

    Adhesion grip and Hysteresis grip are intrinsically linked, but your explanation of the tire deforming into the tarmac surface features is a textbook example of Adhesion Grip. Tire Hysteresis refers to the difference in energy when deforming the rubber compared to the lower energy amount returned as the rubber restores, this energy difference is heat. Hysteresis is the primary cause of rolling resistance but it will occur whenever the tyre is deformed in any direction. The heat makes the rubber more pliable and soft, allowing for more contact area with the surface features, thus increasing Adhesion grip which allows greater tire load thus increased Hysteresis until excessive heat leads to chemical breakdown of the bonds. This results in increased shear (wear) rates, surface flashing, blistering and even de lamination.

      @@AtomicAndiI did not say Nils was wrong, he mentioned the thermal characteristics and the effect on the rubber, then moved onto a good explanation of Adhesive grip without naming it as such, so it could be misunderstood by the viewer as all Hysteresis grip. I only wanted to clarify that Hysteresis grip and Adhesion grip can be considered separately despite being intrinsically linked. I would echo what Niks said about looking this up for yourself, it’s a fascinating subject but the academic papers are not exactly easy reading. My apologies for not being clearer in my original comment.

    Hi Niels and thanks for the video. I know you are a busy man, but can I ask you for a favor? Could you take the BMW M4 GT3 (Gen2) out on Imola in default conditions and with the default setup and see how feel about it? I'm in the AMS2 beta program and, while I do like what they have done with the tyre physics, I still believe there is something off with the low-speed lateral grip, especially with cars that don't have as much downforce as the prototypes and Formula 1 cars. Please take the BMW around Imola and hopefully you will see what I mean, especially coming out of the hairpin and chicane (alias the slow corners). The car to me feels like it floats sideways for a moment (no tyre scrubbing sound or response on my pedal haptics) before it rights itself, even when applying throttle not too aggressively. Like the grip curve starts at zero and stays there for too long. I hope you can find the time to test this. Otherwise I love AMS2 and I will definitely be driving the higher-downforce cars on LFM! :)

    Another question. As youre one of the very very few sim youtubers that I think really explores sims (trying to actually understand whats going on and really exploring ffb and how the cars setup is affecting its handling) and doesn't just jump in, drive around for a while, looking at nothing in-depth and getting your conclusions that way. Would you say the cars behaviour (in terms of the rear slip and car rotation) is still heavily dependent on the differential setting like i think it is now (which people dont seeem to even look at beacuse they dont understand or dont have the time). Has Reiza adjusted the feeling/impact of the differentials on the cars to where they are mostly fine on default and dont need a "correction" from the players? I feel that would have a huge impact on how people perceive the game/sim
    Ride heights also tend to be higher than necessary, especially on the rear. Notice this more on formula cars

    • @SimracingPopometer
      @SimracingPopometer  หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I always felt there is a huge interaction between differential setting and the slip/grip curve of the tire. I think differentials are much easier to implement as its more of a hard fact, whereas tires still have a bit of grey area (hence all sims are different there). but once you have more longitudinal grip, you can drive more open diffs and still have traction on exit. and vice versa if you don't have longitudinal traction you will need more diff lock and that will influence the entire feeling indeed in every driving scenario.
      this is where ACC has an advantage as the differentials in the GT3s can't be altered and remain locked in their ramp angles. the preload makes barely an impact on that. and thus when you make a change to the tire, you can test that in a kinda more laboratory with more control over side effects in the differential area.

    Hmm... I liked the video and you Nils, but why, out of all simulation racers out there, you would think that modelling the hybrid system of the Hypercars realistically (like supposedly in LMU) would be a hassle/negative thing? I take it you are not into Hypercars?

    • @RacingWithChuck27
      @RacingWithChuck27 หลายเดือนก่อน

      People like east and why gt3 is the most popular. Iracing hyper cars are extremely too easy. Only thing we can do is compare to rl and the onboard or videos. The auto mode for the battery, iracing has that also. LMU actually tamed their HY cars also, having the tires warm up a lot faster, not realistic. But people were crying and I’m sure the ams2 fanboys won’t want it too difficult/realistic. Will see…

    • @SimracingPopometer
      @SimracingPopometer  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      the whole hybrid stuff is interesting from an engineering stand point and the whole energy management is a matter of bop. in the sim, while driving 300 it's difficult to be driver and engineer, and thus the entry barrier for full on simulated hypercars is pretty high. there's no value for the driver in caring for switching around the deploy and recharge modes

    • @blankfiile
      @blankfiile หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@RacingWithChuck27 the deploy system is fully realistic in the 1.6 update. unlike other games the boost fills in the mandated power band just like it does irl, so there is not that much of a boost effect unlike other games. It reduces ICE power even when using electric power to fit it in the mandated power band. You can absolutely manually change deploy mode to attack or regen or even all the way off. There is a auto setting which isnt perfect and just makes a assumption on what you want to be doing, changing modes yourself will always be the fastest if you do it right.
      Also on tire front if you are out in the cold on medium or hards you will have a really bad time those first few laps.

If you take some time to watch the streams of Jernej Simoncic, Michi Hoyer, James Baldwin, its a matter of good setup before the race. no. the way this likely works is just a "roughness" value of the surface. the game does not have this as actual 3D shape (no sim has).

      all sims have that as part of their modeling as it's fundamental to how tires work.

      A big improvement, a lot more planted but less forgiving with angle of slip reduced AND you'll need to be much quicker to 'catch' any slide. I'd like to know on a comparison scale how it compares to other games, does it feel similar to say assetto corsa? I find ams2 has these most unique /weirdest feel compared to the other sims. Iracing, raceroom, rf2, ac all have this similar feel. Has that weirdness been eliminated in 1.6?

    • @SimracingPopometer
      @SimracingPopometer  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      That seems to be a very individual perception.
      If anything rf2 and ams2 or Rennsport would be similar, depending on the car you are comparing and all of them leave some questionmarks as to where the maximum grip really is. Raceroom I have no current memory. In ACC and AC cars are a lot more planted and need to be pushed quite hard, while in iRacing cars are a lot more sensitive and easy to overdrive.

Despite the improvements that have made the game enjoyable, when I try to push it to the limit inevitably, major physics problems inevitably reveal themselves. Yet in words it always seems that Reiza does incredibly adavanced tyre modeld etc... but then in reality all this is not seen. I make some test in AMS 2: initially i drive as I would drive on ACC, AC, RFactor 2 for a few minutes then I do a test: I try to take a corner at much higher speed than the previous lap and the car skids and skids but magic! stays on the road as if an infinite grip were generated.
    I know for sure that doing the same on other sims the car would never stay on the road. So what s wrong with this physics! Why the grip limit seems much further than it would appear driving like in any other sim?
