    8:30 i had the opposite problem when i was a teenager - i let my friends treat me like absoulute garbage and i never said a word to them, to a point where it fucked me up mentally. Whoever is reading this - if you've got some friends in your life that continuously grind you into the dirt and you feel like you can't say anything because you "don't want to be a bother" SAY SOMETHING. BLOCK THEM. Just get out of there before you spiral in on yourself

    I haven't thought about it for a while, but that original video was a big part of me not doing something permanently stupid during a really dark time. Obviously not the whole reason, but using it as kind of a mantra anchor massively helped form the basis of some healthy thought patterns. The link to it sat on my hot bar as a go to whenever I desperately needed to feel some hope. So as someone who didn't give in to the dark and don't think i had the strength to say at the time, thank you for being part of the reason im still here and it makes me unreasonably happy that 10 years later you're still here putting out into the world whatever positivity you can.

    I'm mid 30's, live at home, and deal with chronic illness. things I always remember:
    "there's no mess you can't clean up." (Mum's favorite advice)
    "things always work out" and they do!
    in terms of chronic illness and tests with no positives, "no result is still a result," to help with elimination
    "always have something to look forward to."
    and then if things are too much I have a marble of the world since I was little, and I can just think about the big picture and how something may not matter and it helps me be calm if I'm nervous or angry or upset.

      My grandpa told me that the giant white balls in farmers fields was how marshmallows are grown. It’s actually just plastic they put around hail bails to store for the whiter.
      Chocolate milk came from brown cows.
      The steam coming from the cooling towers of power plants was how clouds were made.
      That alarm that would go off when there was a fire and that was the call for all the firefighters to come to the fire house was an alarm if there was an alligator on the loose. We lived no were near any alligators lived.
      There was a little person who worked inside of ATM that would count the money and give it to you. There’s more. My grandpa was a fun guy when I was a little kid.

    I relate so much to listening to your body! I did not, for years, and have developed functional neurological disorder. It now means it’s forced me to listen to my energy levels and prioritise things differently or there will not be a good outcome. There’s such a culture of getting through and to not rest, which really can lead to dire consequences that change how your brain signals things for the rest of your life!

    I.....didn't realise how much i actually needed to hear some of the things in this video, especially about making the mistakes, no one remembering them and just to try to think alot more positively but that communication one is a HUGE one, funny when others say communitcation is key but then don't do it themselves..it's also a challenge when you're kinda surrounded by negativity but removing yourself from that is so good!

I relate to being so negative when I was a teen/ early 20s, but to be fair I didn't have the best upbringing and my negativity stemmed from that anger and hurt. I think a lot of people are negative due to childhood trauma, it's only until we've had a bit more life experience that gives us a better perspective of how things could be so much worse 🙏

    Hi Emma, I've been watching you for years now, over 10 years in fact, and I just wanted to say how great your advice is. If this video would've came out a month ago I would've got shit sorted with my life ASAP. I'm 21 and suffer with adhd and epilepsy and I was being used by my old boss, a boss who promised me a lot but never got it sorted (like you said in that video)... so if this video came out last month it legitimately would've helped me step up for myself and not focus on pleasing people or "fitting in" so-to-speak because masking... yeah it's a thing as you most likely know

    I'd just add this from my experience. Most of the life lessons that have stuck with me is because I made mistakes, faced the consequences, learnt from them. Facing those consequences played a major role in really drilling the point home. That also explained why in the late teens/early 20s it is so hard to listen to advise from someone older. At that age, we haven't been through enough shit in life to learn to be grateful about our actual well-wishers.
    I am closer to you in age and started watching you during college. I am turning 30 this year. I cannot disagree with anything you said in this video. Also, I love the kinds of videos you have been making lately, feels more personal.

    I think that I have something to add to this, being 42 and have a 14 year old where I'm having to put these life lessons into words as he is now starting to encounter things in life.
    Negativity, it's literally everywhere, and not everyone had negative meaning to what they do. At the same time it's perfectly ok to remove negative people from your life, you don't need to keep them as friends. If they are dragging you down, there is nothing that you personally can do to help them if they are doing nothing for themselves. In the next 10 - 15 years the friend group will most likely change at least once, if you're under 18 it's more likely going to happen 3 times or more. You don't need to hang on to bad friends.
    Always learn from the mistakes that you make, because your going to make a ton of them. your going to grow and change a lot over the next decade, the things I thought, did, and said back in to 90's and early 00's? I am not the same person that I was back then. By 44 you will not recognize the you that is sitting there reading this today.
    Your body does know more than you, and it never lies to you. With this, take care of your body, eat food that is good for you, don't constantly over indulge, get cardio in every day, and if you can get some resistance training in atleast one day a week. Do you have anxiety attacks? shortness of breath? Have constant joint pain? How does you hair look? Your nails? How about your skin complextion?
    Also Emma nailed it out of the park with not letting things linger, talk to people (preferably in person), and keep the BS and drama out of your life, it's too short. It was a blink of an eye and I was in my mid 20's and fighting people in multiple martial arts and saying "hey" for the first time to the woman I married.

    Emma, firstly thank you, because I also needed to hear the majority of your points and very grown up sound advice for a lady of only 32. Myself I'm 45 (you'd never believe you 32 giving life advice to a 45 year old crazy ain't it) my name is Justin and I suffer severely with Dyspraxia. (Wondering on your next screen what the hell is that) It's a very complicated Neurodivergent brain disorder which affects people so badly along with there daily routine that GP's attempt to sort a few symptons and not see the big picture. I will never get better from this it is with me for life but I have a 16 year old son who doesn't live with me who I'm understandably extremely worried for trying to put him right in the ways of the world from a distance as I live 60 miles away he lives with his mum and she is very narcissistic. I would love you to do more of these as coming from you and not (in his eyes) his boring old dad moaning on again. I think you are being and will be a tremendous help to me and him going forward. Followed you in the background since your weekly vlog days and that comicon trip to Amsterdam. Please do not stop. I'm determined to either get you another subscriber or somehow pass on the video through the magic of TH-cam and a very ageing Acer Windows 7 pro Laptop. Thank you immensly just Thank you!!!

    How do you overcome fear of death Emma? Thank you for making this video, I’ve just turned 30 and I’m starting to worry so much about life and death since I’m starting to lose a lot of people in my life.

    • @emmablackery
      @emmablackery  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I guess since I’ve struggled with anxiety/panic issues surrounding family death since my teens, I’ve learned that 1) it will be horrible 2) it will keep happening 3) it is a part of life for everyone eventually, and that grief never goes away, we just grow around it. I am fortunate to have not lost a close one… ever. But it will happen, and it will hurt. One phrase that helped me the most was “worrying about it only makes you suffer twice”. We must savour every single moment where it isn’t a part of our lives. Lead with love instead of fear.

    At 29 the back ache is real (may have something to do with being 6'6) but ive also learned a lot of life lessons that people my age don't get chance to and I appreciate every second of learning them. Some of these are my favourites and i love to spread the wisdom right when friends need it.
    That being said, it must be over 10(?) years since I've watched one of your videos and the algorithm suddenly brought you back to my feed for no apparent reason? I'm not complaining though, I'm extremely happy to see you still uploading and having learned all these lessons yourself and pushed through a multitude of difficulties to keep working on your music instead of a full time youtube career

    This is a lot of good advice, and I just want to add my own; you are NEVER the smartest person in the room, even when you're alone. I'm not talking about anything religious, I'm saying that you can ALWAYS find ways to improve and be better, NEVER STOP LEARNING!!! If someone teaches you how to do something, but you accidentally find something that makes it easier and faster for you without sacrificing the quality of the work, don't be afraid of telling the person who taught you. The people who want the best out of you will WANT to know what you know, they'll want to try it themselves, only dicks make you do it "by the book" absolutely EVERY time.
    Also, I'm 38, last weekend was the first birthday I've had that I wasn't severely depressed. Life can get better, and I know trying is hard, but you guys can do it. That back pain is ABSOLUTELY coming for you, and if you served in the military, it starts in your 20's and then it's a snowball of absolutely everything hurting.

    Allow me to be a f-ing arse... Im 45 and see things like this all the time, you are not old when you are in the late 20:is or even in the 30:ish. You are not older then you make yourself out to be. I cant count the amount of time i have been called "old man" by girl an boys in the late teens or early 20:ies. THAT is just ignorance. Im having probably the best time so far in my life, i have a mother that is close to 70 also having the best time ever.
    The problem is videos like this hinting that your life has past before you are even 30.... Your life havent even started yet!!! Fucking live it!! And yes im not native English so dont say anything about spelling, you know what i mean!!

    So I'm same age as Emma (think about a week or two difference)? Anyway she right. The older you get the more you don't give a crap about other people's bullshit and standing up for yourself. You don't have time for the nonsense.
    And yea you make alot of dumb mistakes in your teens and 20s. Mouthing off. Upsetting people. Bad choice of words. You will post stupid shit on the Internet that you regret. But tbh being in your 30s is not bad at all. I've had more fun, more love and respect for people and myself since my late 20s and early 30s then I have for my entire life prior. My husband is my best friend and we have so many stupidly fun adventures all the time. We enjoy each others company and life for the most part gets better. There is shit in the world and lives are messy but bing able to still engage with the world when you want to and need to not because someone demands it is so liberating.
    Also that lower back pain. Yep that can go to hell.
    Had upper back pain since I was a teenager but ignored it. Lower back pain is just a twat :')

    Sounds like its time you started going to the gym Emma, it keeps you younger for longer your body heals three times faster and also heals better there are also many other benefits from training and it will strengthen your back up and raise your energy levels, its hard at first but six months in you won't want to stop, I ask you to trust me and step forwards on this matter and let me know how it goes, Big Respect Emma 😎

      I’ve used the gym before in my life and never had that “want to keep going” thing. Also, with immune issues, it isn’t just regular muscle fatigue you get the day after - it can really affect those with ME/CFS. I’d prefer advice to be more attitude-based than physical-based for these comments.

    • @emmablackery
      @emmablackery  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      I don’t know if that’s good advice for everyone. We all mature at different stages and have our own issues to work through. Also, not everyone’s meant to be a spouse/parent. Be in a healthy place where you can truly love yourself before committing to such lifelong choices.

    • @glenngriffon8032
      @glenngriffon8032 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Mate, not everyone wants kids and that's okay.
      I myself decided at nine that I'd never be a mom and I've held to that even to this day when I'm in my 40s.
      Also, not everyone believes in your god and that's okay too.

    • @LauraDora124

      I’m 28 and I can’t afford my own place. Even if I end up wanting kids, I am also worried I won’t be able to afford having kids in time, or be able to afford a place with more than one room 😐 That kind of advice just makes me feel more behind than I already do 😅
      I’m not about to have a baby in these circumstances and put a strain on everyone around me.

    • @glenngriffon8032
      @glenngriffon8032 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@LauraDora124 Good on you for being responsible. I feel like too many people have children without giving thought to the fact that this precious little baby they have is going to be a person one day. Bringing a person into this world when you're hardly financially capable of looking after yourself is not just irresponsible, I would consider it very selfish and even a little bit evil.

    • @pl1401
      @pl1401 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Even if you’re not prepared to have kids your priorities change drastically and something in your brain switches where you automatically mature and become responsible. Having and raising a family is the greatest gift any human can have or give. That no money can buy or fame. Seeing your kids grow in front of your eyes is something any father or mother really enjoys in life.Once you have a family you’ll do anything to make them happy. And if you have god in your life, god can help you live and find the answers you can’t find. That’s why so many people are unhappy and hurt others.
