Emma, re burnout. I was moving files over to my new computer and I found part of a novel that I had been working on. It had been a few years, so I opened it up and started to read it. i said to myself why the hell didn't I keep writing it. Then I remembered everything that happened during those idle years and why I had stopped. I read the whole thing online and then spent two days looking for the hard copy part that I was going to add to it. I write everything long hand for my first draft. Anyway I am starting up on it again. Inspiration isn't something you can usually turn off and on. Sometimes those little creative gremlins won't talk to you for months or years at a time.
My autism diagnosis was my life-long lightbulb moment. Inside my head just went "Ooooh. Now your life-long trauma and not fitting in and personality crises make sense. You were masking the WHOLE TIME"

Masking to survive daily life isn't the same as keeping some personal privacy. It's exhausting.

I just can’t prioritise getting my phone out at the very second a song starts, over being excited and surprised about what’s next! Interestingly I dislike almost all other surprises (like presents etc) but for gigs I love that feeling of not knowing what you’re gonna hear!

I saw CHVRCHES at leeds in 2019 and didn’t know Clearest Blue, when they played it live it was instantly my fave song by them. I kinda regret not knowing the song beforehand bc now I’d LOVE to see it live because I feel like I wasted it by not knowing the lyrics. Idk if any of that even makes sense tbh. However surprises are also good. But I feel like they’re only good if you know 90% of the artists songs ig? Irrelevant, but knowing stage times before doors is something I’d consider very important for travel/transport purposes

as someone who did linguistics at uni with the intent of becoming a speech and language therapist, it (like the rest of the nhs) is SO underfunded right now and satisfaction rate is so low that I've decided to pursue something else. so please don't regret not doing it! ❤

Being really honest I love the surprises, it gives me a chance to go back and listen to songs from artists that I haven’t listened to in awhile to maybe experience it live, I really wish I didn’t spoil myself with the set list for the eras tour because I know what to expect, when I came to your Girl in a box tour and your show in London last year I had a better time not knowing what to expect and just having fun listening to you perform, there are obviously songs I’d love to hear more than others but the element of surprise is so exciting

With composition, you’ve got to find different ways of approaching music when you don’t have the motivation. Don’t worry, the motivation always always swings back. So when it was 2020 I was honestly mega depressed because of lockdowns but I still had to write pieces for university so I tackled it with a mathematical/ logical approach so patterns and sequences and exploring that and those limitations and approaches helped me actually make music even when there was 0 motivation Honestly I haven’t got the motivation back since covid it’s mega burnt me out but you damn well know when it’s coming back I’m going to write an absolute banger flute piece or duet
To have people being dicks to you and “not spilling the tea” on their relationship to get back at them is super impressive. It would of been too tempting for me to spill it personally 😂. In all seriousness I think that was the best way to handle it by not saying anything about till now. P.s coming to your gig in Glasgow! I was at your europe tour back then in Munich and I gotta say one of the most epic but awkward concert experiences Ive had xD YOU were great and I loved it and it felt like a private concert but there being so little people was a very unusual concert experience xD I rememebr arriving early so I could be in the front and then like ..10 more people showed up and that was it… I always wondered how you felt about that gig? Atleast I can say I got some great memories out of it! xD
Yep… it was my least attended gig of all time. One of the main reasons I won’t be returning to Europe for some time. Somebody I worked with convinced me I had to “build a story” by playing five dates in Germany, and then blamed ME when it didn’t sell.
I don't like knowing the setlist in advance. You can often guess which song(s) will end the main show and those featured in an encore but beyond that, not knowing is for me. I like to recognise songs as they start from the music, not because of a piece of text. Good to see you again, so....this time next year? 😁j/k and hope it's sooner.

Like, i still love Agenda because for me at least it became a bit of a queer anthem through a period of exploring and understanding myself compared to societal expectations, even though thats not what the song was originally written about
I’ve heard that about Agenda from a few people. I couldn’t be happier that it’s taken on its own meaning that has brought confidence and strength to people belonging to a marginalised community. It’s certainly not what I expected but I’m so happy it could extend past my own insecurities.
Emma you didn’t have to call me out I got my diagnosis and finally worked out a rebrand that worked after owning 5/6 channels I’ve since deleted or adjusted 😂

Hahaha I probably did!! I don’t think I need to re-record Lies. I don’t think it would benefit in a way people who love the original would appreciate. As for Tangled, it’s not where I’m heading right now, but it’s always nice to hear some love for such an old tune! It’s essentially the same chords - I recorded Tangled a year or so prior at home and then used that as a starting point for Lies. So essentially, Tangled is like a Lies demo!

It’s hard to put into words the content I’d like because at the end of the day it’s your channel, your voice and if this is what you want to do then so be it. I was at your europe tour back then in Munich and I gotta say one of the most epic but awkward concert experiences Ive had xD YOU were great and I loved it and it felt like a private concert but there being so little people was a very unusual concert experience xD I rememebr arriving early so I could be in the front and then like ..10 more people showed up and that was it… I always wondered how you felt about that gig? Atleast I can say I got some great memories out of it! xD
Yep… it was my least attended gig of all time. One of the main reasons I won’t be returning to Europe for some time. Somebody I worked with convinced me I had to “build a story” by playing five dates in Germany, and then blamed ME when it didn’t sell.

I don't like knowing the setlist in advance. You can often guess which song(s) will end the main show and those featured in an encore but beyond that, not knowing is for me. I like to recognise songs as they start from the music, not because of a piece of text.

I regret not going to your Vienna concert back then. My boyfriend at the time just didn't want to go and although I went to a lot of concerts and festivals on my own I just stayed with him that night. We were with friends and he just didn't want to leave. So I had the tickets and just didn't go 😢

How do you feel about people kinda re-contextualising your songs and lyrics?
Like, i still love Agenda because for me at least it became a bit of a queer anthem through a period of exploring and understanding myself compared to societal expectations, even though thats not what the song was originally written about
I’ve heard that about Agenda from a few people. I couldn’t be happier that it’s taken on its own meaning that has brought confidence and strength to people belonging to a marginalised community. It’s certainly not what I expected but I’m so happy it could extend past my own insecurities.
I relate so much to the cat hair part, lol 😅.

Hahaha I probably did!! I don’t think I need to re-record Lies. I don’t think it would benefit in a way people who love the original would appreciate. As for Tangled, it’s not where I’m heading right now, but it’s always nice to hear some love for such an old tune! It’s essentially the same chords - I recorded Tangled a year or so prior at home and then used that as a starting point for Lies. So essentially, Tangled is like a Lies demo!

I do appreciate Emma trying her best to break through into the music world, but as someone that was a fan of her content and not necessarily her music, I feel like the connection between creator and viewer is gone because everything is music themed

So I’ve just gone down the list of your most recent 30 videos or so and I’ve gotta say for the most part the concept of them I totally dig, just you sat down talking about your current interests or sharing stories of your life, But if they weren’t all/most themed around music or the industry. Like of course keep the music content but I’d personally like getting to know more about how your life’s changed in the last 10 years and what kinda person you are now. It’s hard to put into words the content I’d like because at the end of the day it’s your channel, your voice and if this is what you want to do then so be it. I may just be one of the people not willing to move on with the times 🤷♂️
