    I first found out about fasting from Ray Maor's channel which removed the fear of fasting long before I found Jason Fung, MD's work. Having a social life is more of a challenge for me. The odd pains that come and go I assume are part of detoxing/autophagy. So happy it went well for you and others will be encouraged to move beyond fear and go for a longer fast.

    Yes I agree!!! I highly recommend adding the mineral water (home made) during the fast. It’s Evian water a pinch of potassium (No Salt ~brand of table salt). And a pinch of pink Himalayan salt. It’s a great way to replenish the electrolytes loss. These are the key ingredients in an IV you get when hospitalized. This will help with headaches and hunger pains. Plus you are replacing all the vital minerals were deficient in. I swear by drinking at least 2 liters of this water during our fasting.

    Great video! I thought you looked more tired than normal during your fast. Usually in your normal Omad videos your face looks bright and rested. I’m glad you had a good experience with the fast. It’s amazing that you didn’t feel a lot of hunger during that extended fast. I know if I did a 5 day fast that I wouldn’t be able to sit down and watch my family eat every night:) Thank you for sharing your experience.

    Pink salt 1/4 tsp and Apple cider vinegar 1/2 tsp in some filtered water will take care of that headache during a fast. Try that over Tylenol. Less chemicals.

    • @SixMilesToSupper
      @SixMilesToSupper  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Since this video, I've found a really cool technique that even made a caffeine headache go away. The technique is, you ask yourself where exactly is the pain. I close my eyes and really try to figure out where the pain is. And then, I ask myself what color is the pain? I keep my eyes closed and try to figure out the answer to that. And then lastly, I ask myself what shape is the pain? And I keep my eyes closed and figure that answer out. And then the headache is gone! It's crazy how it has worked so far! My husband found that technique on some other youtube channel. I try to avoid popping a Tylenol if possible. (:

      My fast went so well. I'm already off the sugar, and junk foods. The first 3days where like headaches, not to severe, but present. Day 4, I looked at my computer keyboard and saw all the dirt in it, the colors on the screen where much more vivid, I thought to myself, this was going to be an interesting day. Day5, I felt normal again. The benefits of Autophagy was my primary goal and weight lost was really a side effect. For me it wasn't so much about food, but health. Maybe that's why the thought of having no food and losing weight was so easy. In the back of my mind, I knew all I had to do was go to McDonald's a few times and it would all come back. So, I gave myself a new diet to follow after my 5 day fast! Yip, I'm now on a 18/6 intermittent fasting diet. Basically, it's a low carbohydrate diet, where I eat within a 6hr window, and fast 18. Well, it sure keeps those pounds from coming back on. I work it into my job schedule, so it's pretty easy. Morning coffee, first bite at 11am supper at 4pm, tea at 8pm, sleep and repeat. I monitored my blood pressure, it went down 5lb. both ways. Blood sugar, for guidance as to what was suppose to happen along this 5 day journey. Body pH and weight of course! I did lose avg. 5.5lbs, my gut was full of sh... when I started, so I figure I should weight myself after my first crap! The real game changer was my perception of food after the fast. Talking to my dad about this was kinda strange. He said, "5 DAYS, are you crazy, you'll die", I didn't have the heart to tell him I was on day 5 already! Now I notice, how the general public around me are gloated. I'm still 10 good lb. over my avg. body weight, so I'll take it on again in February. Meanwhile, I have started some easy exercises to tone the upcoming cut, in a few month. I'm going on 58 and never felt so good in my life! Congrats, on your video. I should of made one myself. Maybe in February, I just wasn't sure this time around. Lov'in you bella, xoxox

    Watched a Dr. Mindy Pelz video and she said that pain during fasting may be related to the healing process of the body. Something about either autophagy of damaged cells or stem cell generation.
    If you had prior injury in your lower back, might have been the body’s healing process? Did it feel much better after you started eating again?

    When you do prolonged fasting better to drink salts 1 litter water 1 tsp no salt potassium. 1 tsp pink salt you will feel better and you can play around with the salts. Do some research. Great job on your long fast planning in January doing a long water fast or 5 day dry not sure.

    True hunger you feel it in the throat not the stomack

      I don't know. I heard about Dom D'Agostino who, at the end of a 7 day fast, deadlifted 500 pounds for 10 reps. And on the fasting documentaries I watched, it seemed like exercise (even hours of exercise!) was encouraged at medically supervised fasting facilities. I figured my daily 6 miles of walking wouldn't be an issue. My plan was to stop if I ever felt like it was too much, and I stuck to that.

    • @phylisscoffey5480
      @phylisscoffey5480 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmmm. I guess we have watched different people. As far as fasting, I have mostly followed Alan Goldhamer and I believe he says they rest at TrueNorth. I’m a lot older than you and I remember when I was a kiddo, when you got sick or were recovering from anything, they put you to bed. 😊 Seems like I rarely hear of it these days. Not that fasting is the same as being ill. It just made me think about all the different views on things and how they change.

    The headaches the first 2 days may have been caffeine withdraw.

      I did have black coffee, so I don't think that was the reason.

    During a 10-day water fast I developed back pain which didn’t go away after the fast. I ended up getting a CT scan & turned out to be gallstones! I recall Dr. Longo saying his 25-year studies found water only fasts causing gallstones, and one reason they developed FMD, but I haven’t read the actual research to understand how that could happen.

      Interesting, Lori! When I was at my heaviest, I started to wonder if I had gallbladder problems because I would start to feel nauseous after I ate greasy foods. Thankfully those symptoms disappeared for me as I lost the weight. I'm intrigued by the FMD. Although that ProLon is expensive! If I go that route next time I plan on doing the DIY versions I've seen on the internet. (:

      Six Miles To Supper I’ve done 3-rounds FMD as well as 1-round DYI. Loved the convenience & felt great on FMD,
      but found DYI to be alot of work & I was always hungry. Plus I missed the filling soups on FMD. I did place a large FMD order during cyber Monday which helped with the cost, and continue to comment on their surveys they need to remove the excess packaging & reduce the cost so it’s more affordable. I still think water fasting is easiest as long as you have the right mindset & take electrolytes:-)

      Lost 11.6 on the fast (I'm betting the vast majority of it is water weight) and so far I've regained 6.4 pounds of it.

    You seem to be at a happy place with it, but to me, when I hear your family was requesting of you to to actually sit with them through their meals as you were going through this experience of fasting, I am a bit appalled. Thank you for sharing your experience so clearly and genuinly. It is very helpful to others.

    Wow! Why not just try 2 or 3 days?

    • @SixMilesToSupper
      @SixMilesToSupper  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I really figured that I would find it so difficult that it would end up being a 2 or 3 day fast. But since I felt fine, I kept going. I will say, extended fasting is much more disruptive to regular family life than OMAD, so I plan to only do these types of fasts occasionally. I really like having my one meal a day with my family. (:
