This is my favorite episode in the entire saga. Not only does it illustrate the jaw dropping (and terrifying) scope of the war, it gracefully intertwines deeply moving personal moments between our favorite characters. Rick and Minmei's drama and Lisa's unresolved issues with her father set against the frightening and gut wrenching Rain of Death sequence is just one great example of what makes Robotech a truly timeless story.
that part during the destruction of earth when the soldier is talking with the little girl and shields her, that always got me. this show was for young people in the day, but such an adult story
I remember watching this in late 80s, man it was a good time to be a kid when I had Robotech rented on VHS from the local video store (I worked for that money)... Man how times change :( I get so nostalgic its sad. I wish kids these days could feel what we felt when we scraped enough cash together to rent some VHS. It was ecstatic to return home with the video in hand.
I couldn't agree with you more. I remember hurrying home to watch this cartoon. It made my days of going to school and looking forward everyday to what happened next. I miss those days. Cartoons will never be as good as this!
Robotech basically introduced me to anime, without it hardly anybody would have heard of Macross, so what if it's not the same. It was a great series and I'm thankful to Harmony Gold to bringing it to the US.
I'll give Dolza credit: literally the first thing he does after arriving in Earth orboit is destroying 90 percent of its population. It makes up for keeping Khyron around for too long.
I always find it odd that a lot of people I know don't remember this show that much. I mean, honestly how many other shows in the early morning time-slots featured the systematic murder of seven billion people in less than two minutes?
One of those series that was the foundation of my childhood. I'd love to show it to my girlfriend, but I think the animation and some of the dialogue doesn't quite hold up.

+Bigmike130 exactly and the parts where Roy and Ben die .....not to mention the SDF-1 crew in the last episode

It was Gforce and Speed Racer for me, but naturally when Robotech came out, I considered it the best of the bunch.
As a kid, I'd never seen ANYTHING like a cartoon that DESTROYED THE PLANET.

3:00 to 3:12 Proof that you don't need to animate much to give someone an idea of scale and power. Destroids are so awesome!
They later managrd to incorporate verytech

Don't forget the counterfire of the grand cannon that probably killed a billion Zentradi

Look at all those Warhammers.
The Famous Force of Arms
it is not Robotech. JUST Macross movie. Robotech called only Macross TV, Southern Cross TV, Mosspeda TV, Mixed animation in US.
If it wasnt for robotech anime wouldn't have taken off like it did in the states.
Most people don't realize that over and out is a contradiction. It should be roger and out.
