Britain's cladding scandal is getting worse and working its way onto everyone's doorstep

  • June 14 marks four years since the tragic events at Grenfell, which caused the deaths of 72 people and made hundreds homeless.
In its wake, there were calls for investigations and promises that this would never be allowed to happen again. But thousands of people across the country are still living in buildings with unsafe cladding. Furthermore, they now live with - and often have to pay for - fire wardens and walking watches.
On top of the stress of living in a building that is at greater risk from fire, residents face looming bills of up to £100,000 to make their homes safe. The Government has pledged £5.1bn to fix the problem, but remediation specialist Colmore Tang Construction says the real cost could be up to ten times that amount.
The stamp duty holiday and pent up demand after lockdown has hidden this growing crisis and the housing market looks buoyant and secure. However, a crisis is snarling up the bottom of the housing ladder.
Watch the video above to see how the cladding scandal has affected people across the country and how the issue is far from being resolved.

Why doesn't the government take responsibility for it. They set the rules and regulations and are supposed to enforce. Ultimately it's the government's fault.

Those who wrote the rules are to blame…to be fair to the developers they followed the rules…good installation is obviously another thing but if the material had the right certification at the time then it comes back to the rules again..

Thing is ... if they sell... they leave someone else trapped. Is that ok is it? Don't they care about who they leave trapped?

This video focuses far too much on the people involved and doesn't seem to explain the technical problem at all. It also doesn't describe the building regulations before and after the fire. These seem like the most important details.

So here is the legal question. Person in one of these houses stops paying mortgage. Bank takes the apartment back. What can bank do with this apartment? It clearly cannot sell it until it gets EWS form.

If the developers cut corners and didn’t do things properly why aren’t they legally required to fix it?

most of the people who bought into these types of building are buy to let landlords. These building were designed and budgeted to attract them. The landlords and the banks should pay for the remedial work, the banks have profited massively from Buy to Let mortgages and increases in value.
I don't understand why tax payers are being used to bailout BTL Landlords who put only 10% down, borrowed on an interest only mortgage and made a yield of 5-7%? Why arent the banks and them paying for this?
