Regarding the Duke 990's curb weight data, KTM stated the ready-to-ride weight, excluding fuel, as 179kg. With a fuel capacity of approximately 14 liters and considering that 14 liters of gas weigh 11kg, the Duke's curb weight with a fully fueled tank is estimated to be around 190 kg. That's where I get that curb weight figure, but please correct me if I'm wrong.
Problem with curb weight figures is that bike have different size tanks. Wet weight is a more direct comparison. Same could be said of dry weight although oil and coolant tanks are much smaller
People are complaining about the Z900 being dated, but I think that's by design. You get a 948cc motorcycle for under 10k msrp. That aint bad, BUT I'd pay extra for better brakes and a quick shifter up and down.
2023 Z900 owner here, no regrets, this bike will keep up with just about any bike up to 140mph, im not trying to go 200mph but going 0-100mph is very satisfying.
I'll go with z900, while for mt and duke, I prefer mt10 and superduke 1390 r evo Also, can you sometimes do the comparison for sport touring bikes? Like superduke gt vs multistrada vs s1000xr vs gsx s gt vs mt10 touring edition
@@gdvadventours5512 may be just in the top end speed, it's a bigger engine. But not in any real road / track situation, dear straight-line champion 🤷♂
The Z is outdated, no quickshifter, no radial calipers, no ride-by-wire, and too heavy. So the choice is between the MT and the Duke, both have great electronics, performance and desing. The sound of the three cilinders is great but the explosive torque at low rpms and the cornering of the Duke are above. In my country, the KTM is cheaper so it´s orange for me! 🧡
I recently rode the MT09 2023 and the day after a Z900 2021… granted I’m a Kawasaki guy and went and bought the z900se, I agree it looks better and just feels a lot more RAW.
I mean that comparison is apples and oranges. Yeah they make similar power. But between how much more expensive and heavy the FTR is it’s not much of a comparison performance wise
i have a ninja 650 at moment but im looking at the z900 and mt09 as my upgrade. i love the seating position of the mt09 plus it has quick shifter. but i would prefer to have the inline 4 all day, it just doesnt have the quick shifter and i really wanted that.
1:32 you forget at what RPM those torque comes the MT has peak torque at 7000 RPM wihich means you dont need to ring those throttle and get high on the RPM to feel the grunt.
I feel a number of very important things were left out of this comparison in my way thinking. No. One history of reliability and after sale service. No. Two after market support and number of dealerships. No. Three initial value for your money and resale value. Yamaha’s MT09 is hands down the best in all these categories.
MT09 ALLLLL DAY BABY! All those extras for the price you pay. The tech is great, yamahas are super dependable, the insurmountable amounts of positive reviews, that torque that'll make you giggle like a school girl. KTM is too damn expensive for what little you get a taste of, just to have to pay for them later making the bike way more expensive. Z900 great price, sportbike kinda look to it. Just needs some updates.
I have had a Kawasaki Z1 and a 1000 LTD. Good bikes both of them and I had no problems with either of them for many years. However the times have brought on serious changes and massive improvements. The comparison of the Z900 to the 2021 through 2024 MT09 really shouldn’t have been done. These bikes are light years apart in so many ways. Let me say I would have no issue with owning a Z900 and would be happy with it. The only problem is I have a 2022 MT09 and would not be willing to step back in technology that far. For anyone that is not max performance oriented and don’t push the envelope when riding or do any serious track days the trusty old inline four Kawasaki is had to beat.
If pricing will be proportional to EU, the 990 duke will be closer in cost to a MT10 than an MT09. For me this isnt even a comparison because people who are cross shopping are not gonna just randomly allow themselves 5000€ more budget. The MT09 and especially Z900 are upgrades from begginner bikes (brand loyalty, accessibility, reliabilty) The 990 is far superior dynamically as well as costing a lot more. It is probably the target of a wealthier, more experienced owner, who is not looking for outright power anymore but a middleweight with the premium feel of the KTM.
Would love to see a mt09 vs cb650r when it comes to their features and wether the 4 cylinder lower cc is better than the lower 3 cylinder and higher cc bike
What do you mean better? Depends on what do you expect from the bike. I had the 650f and now mt09. Obv mt09 is better at everything except maybe looks and sound. Not sure of their prices tho
In my country the MT-09 (2024) its $3,500 USD more expensive than Z900 (2024) ... So i got the ninja 1000 sx (new) for a even litter less than the MT-09 cost... . And i love so far the ninja .....($850 USD cheaper than the MT-09)
If it were me, I'd get the MT-09 It's cheaper more up to date and won't nickel and dime the crap out of you. The KTM is a great bike, but you have to pay an extra $$ to get what the Yamaha offers as standard. Plus, their motors are made in China, not so that's a knock against them. As for the Kawasaki Z900, to be honest, the only good thing going for them is the bigger engine. Otherwise, there are not enough features for the price. They're old and a bit outdated. Kawasaki needs to update their lineup asap. So considering everything. For me, the Yamaha MT-09 would be my choice.
Not exactly sure why the 990 is here, unless by weight alone. It should be classed with an MT-10 and either the ZH2 or Ninja 1000, not the 09 due to displacement. The previous 890 was comparable to the Mt-09. In terms of long term performance, KTM always loses😂
