This is by far one of the greatest sfm short films I've ever seen. I don't know what else to say, this is, this is perfection. the use of prexisting voice lines from other games to portray the HECU grunts we see here, the angles, the realism in how they fought and reacted, the emotions in this... just perfect. I always wanted to see something like this, and you made it come to life in the best way possible. thank you, man, this really made my day
I never took into account just how dangerous and deadly the Xen creatures are. Playing as Gordon Freeman, you feel practically invincible as long as you keep your suit power up. This does a phenomenal job showing the true reality of it
yeah in half life its easy to see all the zombies or headcrabs as total pushovers especially considering headcrabs are small, slow, and dont do nothing to you other than leap at you and chip away your health. but to anyone who isnt gordon headcrabs are a fucking nightmare creature. small, relatively agile, and worst of all if one manages to latch onto your head its literally game over. and you best hope to hell theres someone nearby who will put you out of your misery fast before you wake up and experience an existence of unimaginable excruciation
The texture quality, yet nice camera-work and action, really reminds me of the in-game cutscenes from World in Conflict. Also helps that the gear the HECU and the US military depicted in that game look visually similar.
But this is not even Seven Hour War, 7h War- is war between All army’s of all human countrys and combine invaders army, and in this video is war between Hecu and Xen Army. Xen creatures were trying to save from combine’s, so they were teleported on earth by Nihilanth. Imagine how 7h war would look like
@@Scorch052 The 7 Hour war was months after the incident at Black Mesa. By the time of the 7 Hour War, the Earth had been plagued by portal storms and the likes.
I love the usage of voice lines from different games (noticed the 60% combat effectiveness line from Modern Warfare 2) which kept the scene feeling varied and realistic. Fantastic job.
This was fucking amazing. I can’t even begin to fathom how difficult and long this was to make, but you somehow perfectly portrayed the grim situation the HECU were thrust into with barely any dialogue. I felt more sympathy for these marines than most overinflated TV series and movies. I think the simplicity of the story and characters, as well as knowing it was made by a single person makes you appreciate it far more. Knowing this was made as purely a passion project adds to it too.
I feel like vortigaunts would be completely ineffective against modern human small arms, I mean they don't use cover and take a long time to charge up their energy attacks. I always thought of the failures at black mesa being a result of the marines being cut-off and surprised by the teleportation technology, and the heavier, more armored units like the grunts
Nah, Skin can be pretty tough and Vortigaunts never felt the need to wear protective clothing, even 20 years later in HL2, that tells me their hide is thick meaning 556 is probably not that great against them. 308 and Higher calibres with more punch are probably a better pick and that's if they don't fuckin' predict your presence and vaporise you like the insignificant human flesh toy you are lol
They were being suppressed by the volley of fire by the grunts and taken out by the pin point lethal accuracy of the vortigaunts. Pretty good strategy I must say.
Not sure what or who deleted my comment, but I am just gonna say, Vortigaunts got tough hides and psychic abilities and therefore HECU didn't have the firing power to take on Vortigaunt and Xen creatures which some were tougher then the Vorts. In general, I estimated you'd want a higher caliber of bullet to more reliably punch through their natural armour and to mover quicker cos the psychic powers are murder. *Cross Fingers not deleted again*
You not only made the headcrabs extremely useful but the zombies as well. Also seeing how much tension the marines were going through in this was incredible.
I feel bad for both HECU and Zombies, the amount of emotions that i felt when the last Hecu troop saw that one zombie, screaming in pain, not being even capable of controling his own body, he only screams, while the Hecu cannot move, he's bleeding, weakened, about to fade away. This is a masterpiece.
This is amazing, truly one of a kind. This is probably my favorite piece of HECU lore I've ever seen. This is a whole movie. The execution is flawless, this deserves to be up there with the greats. The fact that it only has 726 likes is insane. This is excellent.
Holy. Shit. The way you presented the pressure and TERROR of the cascade literally sent me down a lot of shivers. I was afraid to not suddenly get jumpscared, that's how tense this all was. This made me feel sad for marines even more. Poor dudes thought this will be just a standard operation, but no, that is a global conflict between worlds. I almost shed a tear watching them die horribly. Salute for HECU, you have my respect. This is truly a masterpiece among Half Life animations! You did a phenomenal job and I hope this blows up in the future!
I love that you added a simple yet forgotten attention to detail that most people get wrong! The basic trigger safety, the way you make the Marines fight better than most animations, the way you animate the Marines (realistic), the Marines saying Gunny (term in the USMC for Gunnery Sergeant) and the despair. This is excellent! Bravo!
i love that this shows the reality of the horror the HECU had to face when dealing with black mesa as a whole. pretty sure the last thing they thought they'd be fighting was aliens. This was amazing man. very good.
I love how you incorporated acutal radio chatter from the game to your story. This must be one of the most dreadful depictions of the Black Mesa Incident
The scene at 8:26 is some of the most brutal stuff I've ever seen from these Black Mesa animations, Honestly this whole video is a different caliber with how gritty and brutal it all is.
I'm actually flabbergasted by the quality of this video. It really just shows that everyone in the half-life universe, every "bad" guy in the first game was all just following orders, not just some mindless machine aimed to kill the player and everyone else. This really shows how the H.E.C.U was absolutely not prepare for the horrors black mesa was going to bring and were trying their best to control the situation at black mesa against the Xenians.
This video really emphasizes the reality of the Resonance Cascade incident. If you're not Gordon "more luck than Master Chief" Freeman everything happening in Half Life 1 is equivalent to an apocalyptic sci fi horror movie.
This animation shows perfectly why I love the Black Mesa incident. We've seen depictions of a warzone in many works of fiction, but the Black Mesa one is my favorite by far, for a simple reason: It was a lost war. We can see how the incident goes from the HECU taking over and controlling Black Mesa relatively well, to how they are starting to lose control, and finishing with them having to retreat from Black Mesa in a hurry, heck, I might even argue it's not a retreat, is flat-out an escape. A rush to get the fuck out of there. This is why I cherish mods that show more of this catastrophe, it's just so fascinating, watching three entirely different factions fighting each other.
I actually really enjoyed this film. I really liked the aspect of how everyone who is in shock is either frozen or just completely oblivious to their surroundings. 10/10 video, would recommend.
This is it, we have the three people that we all need. We have all played through the original, and the expansions, and animators like you bring the vision of what our imaginations tossed out there. Taking perceived memories into a visual all of us itched to view. You took the idea of the HECU, the force that felt had the power and confidence to contain anything, and showed the visceral fear and breakdown of what was supposed to be routine. Animux - Gordon's Storyline (Unforseen Consequences) BAST Brushie - Barney Calhoun (Insecurity) You: Opposing Force. You all portray the actions and events during the Black Mesa Incident in the respective of the groups: Gordon=Fear and Confusion. Barney=Normality Folding. HECU=No Plan B.
The moment I saw that guy lean against the wall I had a feeling he's going to be the one with the destroyed IFAK and when he reached for the radio I just knew. It was depressing listening to it in-game and seeing it in animated form makes it even more sad. It was really cool hearing the LZ Sparrow distress call (which I also caught in the game just like many other people I'm sure) and seeing an interpretation of how things went down. Amazing work
Man this is phenominally good. It's amazing how much emotion you are conveying using the crude facial expressions. Combat scenes are really good too and you can really feel the hopelessness of the soliders here. Great job!
Some models in GMod have easier to understand facial bones like "mouth O" which makes their mouth go "oh" and also SFM ports have good facial bones unlike HL2's primitive ones
Looking back at this I appreciate how you portrayed the weapons used by the HECU as being different from each other in this machinima like the M16 and MP5 along with the Glock and Beretta pistols rather than just having them all use MP5s and shotguns as seen in the games.
This is one of the best SFMs out there. I clicked on this video out of curiosity and i was blown away by the level of details. First time the whole thing was depicted with all the gore and chaos. Fantastic job. Valve should take a look at this and start considering a TV series, especially for the Oposing force. Talented creators like you show what is possible.
Tragic and truly hooking piece of art, the true nature of the individuals living this situations. One of the best animations I have ever seen. Your deserve more for this talent and effort.
My God, now the line where a soldier says "There's not frontline with these things" in Black Mesa became more terrifying. Imagine your squad makes a perimeter just for the enemy to teleport right behind you, it must've been a nightmare. Also Zombies and Headcrabs are very dangerous in numbers, with that in mind just imagine being unlucky enough to encounter a single Gonome.
Oh my god, i never seen a horrific scenario about Black Mesa. I was take a very pleasure to see this masterpiece. You create a really anxious moment and we very seen the scare of the guy. You deserve a lot of view for that
I'll chip in and comment. I genuinely love how you gave Black Mesa a Hue City feel in terms of casualties and futility and hope you make more content. As someone currently writing and working with an artist on a graphic novel, I appreciate what you did to tell the story visually as well as through characters' emotions.
Everyone talks about head crabs, but good god the sheer impact from vort's blast is terrifying. Imagine being trough all your combat training and months of preparing l, and then you get equivalent of getting fucking smithed by God himself.
The king of Gmod animation is back and bigger than ever! How the hell do you do it, Jo?! Incredible, awesome work and an absolute delight to watch! Bravo! 👏👏👏🤘
I absolutely ADORE how you done all of this and how good of a portrayal this is of how really fucked and unorganized shit got, and I also especially love the gore effects and how the zombies being really terrifying ( headcrabs too! ) 20/10 short film, it's like something how I imagine my npc battles go in gmod but animated and done really well , and the fact all this was done in gmod too as well makes it all the more got DAYMN impressive.
Its terrifying to think about. These men were forced to do a speechless act when they only wanted to follow orders, and to think that the families of these people will never see the face of thier husband due to the nuke is sad. These brave soldiers gave thier life for nothing. They weren't remembered. They weren't appreciated. They weren't successful in stopping the invasion.
Funny enough, I was watching a video on all of the radio transmissions + EAS messages just to re-listen to the beautiful voice acting, and I just kinda stumbled onto this video after recognizing "LZ Sparrow". Though it's a damn shame to watch the final moments of Goose 4, you did a great job animating this in Gmod! Always impressed seeing your work.
I genuinely thought this was SFM at first... the cinematography is amazing and very high quality. You made me feel for these soldiers when in any other circumstances in-game would make me feel nothing but disgust for them It just goes to show that literally everyone is a victim in the HL universe... There's no true malcontent enemy (except maybe Gman and the Combine) but everyone else, (both human and Xenian) was forced by circumstance. Vortigaunts never asked to be enslaved and be apart of a brainwashed army, headcrabs, houndeyes, bullsquids etc. Who are just poor wildlife aliens going off of their instincts end up transported to earth and being in an environment they're not familiar with, HECU definitely got it rough having to be ordered to gundown unarmed civilans which definitely lowered their morale and ability to fight effectively, even the Black Ops are just doing what's being expected of them in the hopes they can fix and stop the invasion from spreading any further, It's all seriously FUBAR for any and all of them, all because of a man in a blue suit and an interdimensonal totalitarian empire...
Amazing. Really shows how desperate the struggle became, and how outmatched these marines were. It also makes me think about the amount of real world time that's passed since the game was released; 24-25 years, and back in 1999 (IIRC the year the resonance cascade happened) a lot of the things we associate with US infantry were relatively new or didn't even exist yet. That's one of the things I love about HL, the technology and clothing developed along totally different lines than in our world. Time was essentially frozen for human civilization, having lost all manufacturing capability, and then the Combine took over. Being pragmatic and efficient, they took what we had and grafted their technology onto it. I'd bet these guys served as the archetypes for later Combine soldiers
I love the foreboding sense the head crab soldier gives off You as the viewer know it’s gonna jump up suddenly and start attacking them. But they don’t know that
I say this every time he uploads but this guy is criminally underrated, the part when the headcrab zombie raises back up near the end of the film was like straight out of a horror film. Amazing work
That was golden, mate. Loved how it swung from the confusion and anxiety at the messy retreat to the horror of the Black Mesa interior. Preemo stuff my guy
Nightmare fuel when the head crab zombies just chomped on him. I wouldn't even be able to imagine the pain. Jesus Christ. Well time to watch some memes before bed! But honestly, Great work. Had my heart pumping for a good 20 minutes after this.
I remember playing Black Mesa and coming across a radio and listening to the "My IFAK's gone" conversation. That hit fucking hard. I tried imagining what must've happened to him, and lo and behold I come across a beautifully-made short film that shows me.
I'd almost tear up because of how amazing and well-made this was. Especially since I'm a fan of the lore. Thanks to people like you, Half-Life never truly dies (pun sorta intended).
A very bleak, and realistic view (I think) of what it would be like to face the Zen invasion. You go in as a bad-ass HECU and before you know it, you are desperate to remain alive. The tag-team work between the zombie-fied soldiers and head crabs was creepy good.

Su objetivo principal era controlar la amenaza y silenciar a todos dentro del complejo. No fueron muy buenos que digamos xd.

This is by far one of the greatest sfm short films I've ever seen. I don't know what else to say, this is, this is perfection. the use of prexisting voice lines from other games to portray the HECU grunts we see here, the angles, the realism in how they fought and reacted, the emotions in this... just perfect. I always wanted to see something like this, and you made it come to life in the best way possible. thank you, man, this really made my day

nahhhh
Oh hi val.
VALIDATOR
this is a perfect portrayal of how terrifying black mesa really was, especially for the HECU marines
I have never in my entire life seen a better representation of the abject hopelessness of the Seven Hour War than this video.
But this is not even Seven Hour War, 7h War- is war between All army’s of all human countrys and combine invaders army, and in this video is war between Hecu and Xen Army. Xen creatures were trying to save from combine’s, so they were teleported on earth by Nihilanth. Imagine how 7h war would look like
@@МихаилОднолетко I would consider this the opening stages of the war. I never really considered the Black Mesa Incident separated from it.
@@Scorch052 The 7 Hour war was months after the incident at Black Mesa. By the time of the 7 Hour War, the Earth had been plagued by portal storms and the likes.
@@brendanmoore5804 the 7 hour war was directly after black mesa from what I've heard
@@daveywaveypavey The Earth and its governments were weakened from the portal storms that ravaged earth along with Xen flora and fauna.
I always thought of the failures at black mesa being a result of the marines being cut-off and surprised by the teleportation technology, and the heavier, more armored units like the grunts
with dozens of them coming from the front, back, sides and above, its dangerous anyway~
This is a masterpiece.
i really want adrian sheperd to come back because he's one of the most badass hecu members there are and he was just a corporal
This is amazing, truly one of a kind. This is probably my favorite piece of HECU lore I've ever seen. This is a whole movie. The execution is flawless, this deserves to be up there with the greats. The fact that it only has 726 likes is insane. This is excellent.
sharing it on places like reddit would help :x
@@joacons I can do that
1:49 I cannot stop rewatching this part, it's just so unbelievably smooth I love it.
Holy.
The existential dread is just amazing. The brutal reality of the Resonance Cascade makes you realize just how horrible the 7 Hour War must have been.
Bravo!
Dear god, the zombie sounds will forever haunt me, just from how much pain there is in them.
i love that this shows the reality of the horror the HECU had to face when dealing with black mesa as a whole. pretty sure the last thing they thought they'd be fighting was aliens. This was amazing man. very good.
man i have no words, this is a masterpiece
the animation was smooth as butter, the dialogue, the references
I always wondered how could the well trained marines be infested by head crabs if not by ambush.. now I know the answer is during chaos.
I love how you incorporated acutal radio chatter from the game to your story. This must be one of the most dreadful depictions of the Black Mesa Incident
I like how you made the person in the end die slowly instead of "Oh IFAKs gone. Guess I'll die." crap.
10/10.
The scene at 8:26 is some of the most brutal stuff I've ever seen from these Black Mesa animations, Honestly this whole video is a different caliber with how gritty and brutal it all is.
One of the best things about your animations is the ability to depict a side losing but still make it extremely enjoyable to watch
This is complete masterpiece. Lore details, use of assets, tension, story, Just the best HECU fan animation I saw.
The HECU didn't stand a chance, this war was lost since the beginning.
Awesome work!
God... When I was playing the game I was so confused on why the military pulled out. This really shows why,
Can't say I have ever seen a HECU focused video like this before. I would watch a movie lenght one of this.
This adaptation of the head crab zombies were even more terrefying than the ones we got in game.
4:16 i think i just saw marine having PTSD in background
The ending was wild, the zombified marine asking for help, but what I heard was “Tommy god help me”
I actually really enjoyed this film. I really liked the aspect of how everyone who is in shock is either frozen or just completely oblivious to their surroundings.
10/10 video, would recommend.
as brutal as black mesa was,and it WAS brutal. Nothing would prepare the survivors for the next seven hours...
Animux - Gordon's Storyline (Unforseen Consequences)
BAST Brushie - Barney Calhoun (Insecurity)
You: Opposing Force.
You all portray the actions and events during the Black Mesa Incident in the respective of the groups:
Gordon=Fear and Confusion.
Barney=Normality Folding.
HECU=No Plan B.
Epic
This is really good when those guys were eaten by the zombies it was terrifying, smooth as butter animation
Its gmod tho~
Tragic and truly hooking piece of art, the true nature of the individuals living this situations. One of the best animations I have ever seen. Your deserve more for this talent and effort.
20/10 "Retreat! Reetreat!" Best moment!
Bro really animated this whole thing Stop Motion Helper and still manages to make a realistic depiction of war.
You sir are an hidden gem.
This is seriously well-done! It really humanizes the marines a whole lot more, and doesn't just make them "badass military dudes".
Better tension than most movies I've seen that have come out lately.
this jsut shows how fucking scary the headcrabs are like jesus christ
El hecho de que esto es GMOD, simplemente es sensacional.
This was hands down THE best Half-Life SFM animation I EVER saw! Top notch!

I absolutely ADORE how you done all of this and how good of a portrayal this is of how really fucked and unorganized shit got, and I also especially love the gore effects and how the zombies being really terrifying ( headcrabs too! )
20/10 short film, it's like something how I imagine my npc battles go in gmod but animated and done really well , and the fact all this was done in gmod too as well makes it all the more got DAYMN impressive.
This was probably a single hard to watch animation ive seen. You really nailed the brutality.
Not bad."Half-Life" turned from a joyful FPS into a real horror.
Good shit, really goes to show how the marines went from having the situation under control to being completely overrun
I truly love the way you use the headcrabs, you're the first person I see that uses the headcrabs to disable the marines(also using teamwork in a way)
Its terrifying to think about.
If Shepard was over there they would've survived.
I genuinely thought this was SFM at first... the cinematography is amazing and very high quality. You made me feel for these soldiers when in any other circumstances in-game would make me feel nothing but disgust for them
It just goes to show that literally everyone is a victim in the HL universe... There's no true malcontent enemy (except maybe Gman and the Combine) but everyone else, (both human and Xenian) was forced by circumstance. Vortigaunts never asked to be enslaved and be apart of a brainwashed army, headcrabs, houndeyes, bullsquids etc. Who are just poor wildlife aliens going off of their instincts end up transported to earth and being in an environment they're not familiar with, HECU definitely got it rough having to be ordered to gundown unarmed civilans which definitely lowered their morale and ability to fight effectively, even the Black Ops are just doing what's being expected of them in the hopes they can fix and stop the invasion from spreading any further,
It's all seriously FUBAR for any and all of them, all because of a man in a blue suit and an interdimensonal totalitarian empire...
Nice comments, thanks for taking the time xd
I still love how well animated this is and the references. This deserves more views
I love the foreboding sense the head crab soldier gives off
You as the viewer know it’s gonna jump up suddenly and start attacking them.
But they don’t know that
I say this every time he uploads but this guy is criminally underrated, the part when the headcrab zombie raises back up near the end of the film was like straight out of a horror film. Amazing work
man, this is probably the only decent depiction of what a chaotic clusterfuck black mesa must've been, bravo
2:56 It's kind of like a tribute to Saving Private Ryan.
Half life universe has got to be beyond terrifying to live in; animation conveys that really well. Excellent work!
Always wanted to see someone animate these radio transmissions and this was beautiful. You did great
I remember playing Black Mesa and coming across a radio and listening to the "My IFAK's gone" conversation.
8:33 - This part makes headcrab zombies a lot scarier. That must be a painful way to die.
As well as this part: 9:57
DAYUM this is the grueling things I like from a good military film. showing that when you can't be prepared you die fr fr
