Yeah, this could be actually used like a trailer, just like how L4D2 used their trailer to show the infected's abilities, item's abilities and mechanics The Video shows that the HECU are hostile against everyone except themselves, they have no mercy, they are good with weapons, but not perfect, the security is your best friend, they are mostly accurate with small handguns, but are well trained for a combat situation
Even more so positioning. The Guards had a elevated ambush position (that you can't turn and burn into) with weapons to boot. Responding to being ambushed is dirty, even for highly trained combatants.

You know what’s great about this animation? The absence of plot armor. Just because the HECU are tough military special forces, or the scientists are innocent, or the security guards are trying to protect said scientists, doesn’t mean people don’t get hurt. It’s this grittiness that makes it seem more realistic, and I’m (pleasantly) surprised you were able to do it in G-mod and not SFM
Yea. Some scientists don't have the gut to fight back or don't like the idea of taking someone's life even in that situation. So, it makes sense a few of the scientists actually got a weapon. Tho, they're not trained to use them. If they got lucky, they'll kill one of them. Gordon Freeman is an exception xD

They all could've effectively contained this if they worked together. Instead you had a 4-faction-war at one point in essence (Staff, Xen, HECU, Black Ops). Add RaceX if you want as well.
Because it was all just mass confusion, though we do know from the events of Opposing Force that there was collaboration between some of the HECU and Black Masa personal.
I enjoy the fact that one of the scientists took a pistol and began to fight back instead of just standing around or running into the open to get shot. They’re cowards for sure, but they’re extremely smart as well. They’d understand that they would have to contribute to the fight, as they’re risking death either way, just one way is assured. Also, I think it would’ve been a bit cool if like one of the Xenian teleportation portals opened up between them to show that in the end, the real enemy is the aliens

I love this. This kind of chaotic close quarters combat, with no plot armoured protagonists but rather just regular people on both sides dropping left and right and with no clear good guys or bad guys.

The way the security guard bounces back on his feet at 3:10 almost looks like motion capture. That was insanely detailed and realistic, especially for Garry's Mod. 10/10, everything about this is mind-blowing.
Black Mesa Security Guards were extremely effective given the circumstances and the firepower they had at their disposition. The HECU squad lost at least 6 guys while the BMSG lost 3 or so guys (not counting the civies). I counted at least 3 BMSG surviving the encounter, if not more. Just goes to show how useful is the element of surprise.
Gotta love the fast and brutal feeling this whole firefight has, I loved it from start to finish, especially the part where the guard takes that one marine out with a grenade after he gets knifed.
I personally like to believe that during the last hours of the incident when soldiers were literally getting left behind to fend for themselves and their main objective was pretty much pointless, that all the remaining humans stranded (both HECU and Black Mesa personnel) probably would've teamed up realistically speaking, after the HECU followed all those orders to silence and kill, just to be silence and killed themselves by being left behind would probably make them wake up and see the bigger picture in their current situation Which is why i like to believe after their unseen brawl at the end there, they realize they need each other more than ever

I like to think some of the security guards around Black Mesa had former military training and were the ones that lasted longer throughout the incident, hell some probably escaped in their own way like Barney. If I remember, the announcement system did report heavy resistance from the scientists. Though it was most likely referring to Gordon, but I like to think it was also referring to the various BM personnel who knew how to fight back.
What's best is that Barney isn't described as being ex-military or cop, he was just a regular dude out of college with some training and heart and he single-handedly did a massacre on the HECU
All this time I've been wondering why the guard at 1:56 exploded and you can see him reaching down with his left hand pulling the pin on the grenade on his waist (And the camera even shows this a few times during the struggle), probably because he knew he was at a disadvantage due to loosing his shotgun and the soldier having a knife in hand to hand combat.

This is shows how helpless was Black Mesa personnel. Imagine you're NOT a Gordon Freeman, just a random scientist. You walking to the control room to write behavior of headcrab. But then headcrab comes out of portal and jumps at your colleague. You're in shock, your colleague trying to pull out headcrab from his face. You hop into the train. You think you're safe but train's falls into pit and you're dies. Or you're the guard. Just sitting on your post. Then 3 infected by headcrab scientists coming through the hallway. You shooting them but you're out of ammo. And all what you can do is watch how those creatures coming to you. Or you survived the residence cascade beginning. You're scientist, you're hiding in a closet. Because there's a bullsquit over here. Headcrabs attacks bullsquit. You running out of closet to ladder. But bullsquit shots you down and all what you can do is crawl. You crawling and headcrab hops at your head. You're now can't control yourself. After feew minutes bullsquit killed all headcrabs and coming to you. And starts to eat you. Your body wokes up and starts to fight. You won. But you're dying of bloodloss. Headcrab jumps off and you dies. Or you survived even some hours. Ok, H.E.C.U deploying inti facility. You finds guard and coming with him to H.E.C.U soldiers. Then you saying: "Stop, don't quit! I'm one of the science team!" And they shots guard. You're in shock running back from H.E.C.U but it's to late, one soldier shot your leg and then all what you saw it's a grenade in front of your face.
HOLY SHIT. The loud fukin noise the guns produce and incoherent screaming and yelling really adds to the chaos that are the scenes. Even if the camera shows quick snips and unfocused shots it all just adds up! It's chaotic! It works! I am 2 years late to this but man did I miss this! Good stuff!

Most of Black Mesa's guards have pretty good training and good working relationships with the scientists. Many are seen doubling as repairmen and can render medical aid as well. Some are probably former military as well considering the arsenal on site in Black Mesa.
This is simply hands down fantastic. One of best screen plays/plots ive seen. I love that even though it is a hopeless situation for the Black Mesa Security Force, trying to mount a defence while trying to protect the scientists simultaneously, they still manage to conduct a VERY affective counter attack. A great David vs Goliath moment if ever i saw one. Truly remarkable!

@@aldrichcruz9321 its very likely some of the guards are ex military. OTOH, HECU is a full pledged military outfit. Highly trained and organized. Cohesion is trained to them. Its shown when one of the HECU marines flanked one of the guards in the catwalk as well as one HECU ambushing a descending guard with a knife(even though it makes sense to quick shove them sideways and hose him with SMG or pistol). The guard's training level varies since the level of training varies. The ambush level alot of disparity between the defender and the attacker.
I love this for so many different reasons. One of the best reasons is that it perfectly envisions both the suicide mission the HECU were sent on and what the black mesa personnel had to fight their way through. I also absolutely love the way you used the music and the different in game voice lines and fit them perfectly into the animation. Absolutely love this, keep up the good work!!❤

It really hits home how the HECU, guards and scientists were all just normal people doing their job: the Marines are told the scientists deliberately caused the incident and they are to eliminate them and the guards and scientist think the Marines are some sort of death squad...neither side realised they were being played by other powers in the shadows 😕
Always fantasized the security guards taking up arms and fighting the HECU in coordinated groups. So cool to see this actually played out! Amazing work!
I will admit one thing about this that was cool, we need more fire fights like this in video games, Bonus, it was also a really cool animation that reminded me of something like this happening in airsoft.
Even if the HECU were predicted evil here, both sides will still have PTSD after this, HECU because they were ordered to kill innocents and they thought the staff were the big bad, Staff, because, they're being hunted and are forced to watch as a ton of people die.
I'd like to imagine that ending like the ending of the intro the battlefield 1 because in lore there's really no reason they should be fighting the military probably could've got this all under control if they worked with the personnel.
This reminds me of something I did with an opposing force map for an old video, I expanded the map and added security guards with several types of weapons, I play as a soldier who enters with his teammates and kill any guards in the way until I reach a scientist. Can't believe I never heard of this wonderful SFM before, I love it.

I was surprised to see the behavior of the HECU as they assault a mini base of the black mesa team, reminding me that they behaved almost the same as the combination when they went to assault Resistance bases and that each person more or less took the role of the character for example those of the HECU took the role of the combine that assaulted Resistance bases killing the citizens who would be the scientists without being able to defend themselves and the members of the Resistance who would be the security guards protecting the HECU scientists.
The black masa guards tactics are run and gun also steal equipment just to survive the assault but the HECU are fully trained soldiers that has better equipment and shooting accurate under pressure therefore not wasting any ammo, lasting longer but the Black masa guards did very well

I know im late but im pretty sure only one hecu survived while 2 guards survived because you can see one with a helmet dragging a body away

Amazing animation! It really hits home how the HECU, guards and scientists were all just normal people doing their job: the Marines are told the scientists deliberately caused the incident and they are to eliminate them and the guards and scientist think the Marines are some sort of death squad...neither side realised they were being played by other powers in the shadows 😕
Always fantasized the security guards taking up arms and fighting the HECU in coordinated groups. So cool to see this actually played out! Amazing work!

Even if the HECU were predicted evil here, both sides will still have PTSD after this, HECU because they were ordered to kill innocents and they thought the staff were the big bad, Staff, because, they're being hunted and are forced to watch as a ton of people die.

Really great job on the camera angles just like the pros in movie editing.

This reminds me of something I did with an opposing force map for an old video, I expanded the map and added security guards with several types of weapons, I play as a soldier who enters with his teammates and kill any guards in the way until I reach a scientist.
Can't believe I never heard of this wonderful SFM before, I love it.

Realmente Black Mesa me da miedo de algun modo, su atmósfera me hace sentir aun mas triste y con miedo algo que no me pasa en el juego original, ver el miedo de las personas y el evidente descontrol de todo es.. abrazador? Tambien el pensar que realmente dentro de Half Life es malo (de los humanos) cada uno defiende lo que se le ordene o piense y eso.. me encanta y ver como los guardias en esta animación estan tan balanceados con los militares, es algo que si defiendo y justificó

I was surprised to see the behavior of the HECU as they assault a mini base of the black mesa team, reminding me that they behaved almost the same as the combination when they went to assault Resistance bases and that each person more or less took the role of the character for example those of the HECU took the role of the combine that assaulted Resistance bases killing the citizens who would be the scientists without being able to defend themselves and the members of the Resistance who would be the security guards protecting the HECU scientists.

The black masa guards tactics are run and gun also steal equipment just to survive the assault but the HECU are fully trained soldiers that has better equipment and shooting accurate under pressure therefore not wasting any ammo, lasting longer but the Black masa guards did very well
