    In this video, I head into the woods to look for a tree hidden away near Port Renfrew that has the longest branch in Canada. The Mossome grove of trees is a small stand of Sitka Spruce and Big Leaf Maples that have not succumbed to logging on the west coast of Vancouver Island.

    Loving the photos of the ancient trees , they are beautiful .
    There are older parts of the Forest of Dean Gloucestershire here in the uk .
    That are like where you are .
    Autumn/Fall are the best times to go .
    With outstanding bracket fungus . Moss etc .
    I have totally lost my photo mojo with the pandemic.
    Only yesterday I got my gear out .
    Charged batteries. Gave my gear a clean .
    Thank you Adam for some inspiration.
    Regards Martin UK

    It never ceases to amaze me how you can pull these fabulous shots out of such chaos. And it also amazes me that the tree limb can handle the snow load! The torque on that limb to tree junction- not to mention the roots- has to be enormous.

    I loved your final shot of the branch. What a spectacular branch! I once found a lovely branch that was about 50 ft. and hung across a small river. I got a good photo of it, but when I went back to it for fall color, it was gone. I found it a short distance downstream along the river bank. It was sad, but I am thankful to have gotten my one shot of it.

    Liking this video Adam. Living on VI we have tons of these moss laden trees close by, and I've always wanted to photo these, especially the trees with licorice ferns growing on them. Nice tip about the CP filter and the pano aspect. Like the filter holder you have; leather Kase is awkward to use. Do you see benefits to that rubber Kase filter hood? Best ...

    I have to ask and WOULD LOVE TO SEE A VIDEO ON THE SUBJECT ONE DAY: with the light coming and going so fast why don't you shoot handheld more often... therefore allowing you to capture more images? Surely you can hold the camera sturdy enough vs. faffing around with a tripod all the time ...??...

    • @QuietLightPhoto
      @QuietLightPhoto  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well, in most cases forests are dark and require long shutter speeds. So hand holding is not ideal. Plus in many cases the compositions that I look for are done with intent, meaning I ENJOY the process of setting up a tripod and scrutinizing a scene. If you watch my videos on a regular basis this is what my channel is about. Lastly shooting MORE doesn’t equate into nothing more than having to sift through a lot of similar photos. Do I handhold? Absolutely! Check out my recent videos from Antarctica. But for the most part I’ll continue FAFFING about with my tripod.

    • @timshields8720
      @timshields8720 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@QuietLightPhoto thanks Adam for the feedback!!! I watch everyone of your videos and LOVE them. In summary, I think you are saying you like the process more vs. handheld.
