      bassisgood thanks for the reply man. May I know on which area the Kenwood are slightly nicer?

    • @4WheelKid
      @4WheelKid  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      no problem and the kenwood just seems to have more tighter sound quaility bass

    I worked at SAS (Southern Audio Systems) aka Bazooka factory while in college (LSU) many years ago. Glad to see that the company is still doing well and the "new crowd" still supports a solid product. Good review, tutorial and video.

    I have had two 6" (without amp built in) Bazookas in my Fiero since before you were probably born :) When I did my 3800 Supercharged swap I also upgraded the sound system except for the subs. The Original subwoofer manufacture for them when they were built in the usa is still around and I was able to buy new surrounds for them and rebuild them. I had them running off a Sony amp for years and now I run them off a Hifonics brx12001.d with the gain set to min. They still pound and are like 30 years old!

    I've got 2 8" bazooka tubes..non powered hooked up to an Orion HCCA 100 amp and another 16 speakers hooked up to an Orion HCCA 50 amp. All mid bass are 6 1/2"x 4..5 1/4" x4 , mids 4" x4 and two mid range Polk audio tear drop..and two Alpine tweeters. Speakers are wired in series. Subs are parallel . Alpine head unit and audio control parametric EQ. 90 amp alternator and extra Optima battery in the back. Stealth install. When you look inside the car, all you see is the the tubes.

I received a suggestion to use pre-amp inputs do you think that would help? The sub is working but is producing very little bass even when adjusting the gain.

    Would love to get one of these for my Mercedes A class AMG. But have no idea how to get high level inputs to it. The speakers are in all 4 doors., so it means finding the harnesses to the rear doors and tapping into them. Not something I really want to do on a 1yr old car.

  • @alek385
    @alek385 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    10 years ago my best friend popped one of these things in the back of his Audi A3. That was the first time I ever heard a song with amplified bass. At that time, (I can't truly remember all the details of the sound) I was overwhelmed that additional bass can add so much to the music experience. Now, 10 years later, after I got some cash I invested in my own sound system and I have a Rockford Fosgate P3 12 inch that produces 600 w rms. Even though I just love the way dubstep sounds in my car now, I can't shake off the feeling of not being able to compare the tubes to the subwoofer boxes. Could you provide a comment on that, if a same wattage tube and box was compared, what would be the main differences?

    • @4WheelKid
      @4WheelKid  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      nice haha yeah once you have bass music just won't be the same without it. cool I actually got a fockford fostgate p3 10in 600 watts rms, ill be making videos with, not sure what you mean by the tubes vs boxes?

    • @alek385
      @alek385 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      bassisgood tube sub (like bazooka) vs box sub (p3 in an enclosure) for example.

    • @4WheelKid
      @4WheelKid  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      oh gottcha, the p3 is way better but not really because it's in a square enclosure, even if the p3 was in a tube enclosure it would still sound way better as long as it was designed and built right. the bazooka tubes are more for entry level or people who don't want a lot of bass or just wants something cheap and easy to install

    • @dj4monie
      @dj4monie 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That is incorrect. People have won sound-offs with Bazooka tubes. If you use the RCA inputs you can use additional EQ and placement to smooth out the tubes response. It is not an entry level subwoofer system. People say that because you only pay $150-$200 for one. While people spent two or three times that for bass that isn't really much better just more. The only problem with the bass tube is that roll off below the tuning frequency makes some bass notes have less impact. Also people install them typically into cars with stock stereos that have limited tone controls, no real EQ. Bass is typically centered at 100 Hz in most cars when there is bass below that so when you jack up the bass tone control you are just making 100 Hz louder not the frequencies below that. You can have as much bass as you want with tubes. You could run (2) amplified 250w tubes and (2) passive tubes. That is 550 watts of sub-bass power and four subs, is that entry level?

    Do you have to get a new head unit before getting this or does it work with a stock system?

    • @4WheelKid
      @4WheelKid  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      you can use it with the stock system you just gotta use the high level inputs spliced into the speakers like I show in the video

    • @dj4monie
      @dj4monie 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you have proof? I have installed more than a few of these. There is no advantage to using a LOC as one is built-into the system itself, you'll just be spending more money for nothing. All you have to ensure is to make sure the ground is good and with 100w and below tubes you can just tap your fuse box current draw is minimal because it's a Class D amp. You get a better signal from using the high level inputs rather than spend money to convert it to RCA which it already built-into the tube. You can connect the tube to either again no need for a LOC.

    What toggles when you change the 3 way phase input switch? Mine is on the bottom setting and sounds fine but I can't seem to find any information on it

    • @4WheelKid
      @4WheelKid  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      it should be a 2 way phase selector switch, it just reverses the polarity. it's in phase when the the speaker pushes out when all the other speakers are pushing out this is what you want if it's out of phase it's pulling it when all the other speakers are pushing out this will make it kind of cancel out and it will sound strange

      Depends. I've had both 8" inch 50w tubes and 100w tubes. Both could be heard with the windows down but nothing crazy. If you want a setup that hits really hard, get the 250w tubes and a passive slave tube. Trust me it will play louder and sound just as good as many custom setups. Most people just get the one tube because it's affordable and it's plenty for most people.

Do you think I could use the Trailer fuse for the power source and Daytime Running Light fuse 10A for the control cable (blue)? There is also an Accessory Power Socket 20A fuse. Maybe it's better to use the Accessory Power Socket 20A for the blue cable? Thank you.

      Which tube do you have? If it's 50w or 100w tube changing the box won't do anything. What you CAN do is upgrade to the 250w tube. It should be a bit louder, but the real advantage is you can add a passive tube to the powered sub for twice the bass.

      As long as the ported enclosure volume is a close match it should be banging but I'm sure that the built in amp is not going to properly power the sundown. Sundowns are beastly so you may get port noise.

    • @dj4monie
      @dj4monie 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sundown subs require serious power and a good sized box. If the OP is looking for just more period, better more sensitive main speakers will improve the sound and volume for minimal outlay. A 50w tube will not outrun the stock system but give you WAY more bass.

    I had a dual 8" bazooka once before. I do not understand why anyone would want one of these. A $50 8 inch sub in a sealed box has cleaner output than these things. It just sounds like boomy mid-bass.

    • @dj4monie
      @dj4monie 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      boomy mid bass? not installed right, wrong crossover frequency. As I have said people have won sound off competitions with them, it's not hard but if you treat it like a cheap investment like most people do then you won't get much out of them. A sealed box will be MUCH bigger and require two-three times the power to get to the same output as the ported Bazooka tube, simple physics. A sealed box the RIGHT size will play lower but you aren't playing chamber music are you? 99% of popular music is between 50-100 Hz as far as bass is concerned. There is some rap, and electronica that goes below that and below the tuning off the tubes they do tend to struggle a bit but that rarely happens.

    • @pimphandgamester
      @pimphandgamester 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You do a lot of assuming but there is only 1 way to install it as it has a built in 300 watt amp and comes with all wiring and it's even installed in a hatchback. You're clearly biased but these are tuned to 39hz which is too high, all of them are tuned this way. The purpose of a crossover frequency is specifically match the overlap of your mid bass speakers. The reason why these are boomy and peaky is because of the high tune, too small of a ported enclosure and the piss poor group delay that the enclosure gives as a result of it's size. These subs also have poor transient response and designed to be cost effective. They are in fact, very entry level subs, equivalent to Jenson $29. The 8 inch Bazooka replacement sub is only $50 and that is over priced.
      Also sealed boxes are actually smaller. In order to make a small ported box, you sacrifice a lot. An 8" sundown SD2 subwoofer only needs .25 ft3 sealed box and far exceeds the mechanical capabilities of the Bazooka sub itself. The entire design is for SPL only, which is why it sounds like a fart cannon.

    The knob on the tube is NOT a volume knob! it's a gain knob. It's to match the headunit s amp to the subwoofers amplifier. Turning it up all the way just causes distortion and clipping. Which causes the sub to blow.

    • @accordingtohonda4308
      @accordingtohonda4308 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, but the amp is matched to the sub. In a situation where you're pairing amps and sub of different companies what your are saying is VERY TRUE!
      SAS will not sell a product with a self destruct knob on the back.

    • @Djbz170
      @Djbz170 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      According To Honda you don't know what your are talking about. Not trying to be rude. But you don't. The gain knob is not to add or just the volume. Or make the amp put out more watts. It is to match your headunits rca outputs to the amp. Nothing to do with matching brands of the product.

    • @accordingtohonda4308
      @accordingtohonda4308 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      To match the RCA VOLTAGE. All head units are in the 2 to 4 volt range. IT'S STANDARD and DOES NOT CHANGE WITH THE VOLUME! This is how you can match an amp and sub and guarantee it's 90% safe. Eclipse units run really high but if you're running aftermarket equipment you know what you're doing. This sub is for adding a little bass to a stock setup not competition.

    • @dj4monie
      @dj4monie 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      How would it sound better? If you compare like for like, the Bazooka tubes will out play it period. I don't understand why you can't seem to understand it. Cylinders work better for bass reproduction than square boxes. MTX gives you a package that is big and impressive and to the inexperienced it's okay overall, just like most prefab setups. 1 JL W8 with the same power in a simple ported box will kill any prefab MTX setup but the W8 cost as much as the MTX system, that is the problem isn't it?
