I've had an under the seat sub for about a year now, and with some tuning and EQ modification it sounds so good. I can get a good rumble and bass feel when I need it. Makes long road trips so much more fun and have gotten nothing but compliments from my friends. Plus the space saving is no joke.
I recently put a Kicker Hideaway in the footwell of my S2000. With it being a 2dr convertible and only 2 x 6 1/2 speakers in the door, I needed something that didn’t take up space. Man, I was really impressed. No it’s not brain shaking performance, but it is so much better than what I had. Now I’m looking at putting one into my 2023 Integra. With that being a hatchback, I should have a bit of db gain out of it as well. These little units are impressive for what they are and their costs.
@@peanutheadrules I did the 10” one, HS10. Very impressed with it for the size and cost. Like I said, is it a 10” in a custom box and 500 watts going to it? No. But does it give the music a more full, rich sound? YES!
@@peanutheadrulesYes, just 1. Don’t have the space for 2 in my car. An issue with running 2 is that you’d have to match them (gain levels, crossover points, bass boost, bass knob). Would just be better to buy a pair of 10” subs a and a amp at that point.
The big rear subwoofer in my Navigator rolls off above 45 hz due to the interior size and cancellation so I added a front sub. I tried a powered Rockville 8" underseat enclosure. I measured the response using an acoustical RTA with the enclosure under the passenger seat, under the 2nd row seat and in the passenger footwell. The footwell gave an extra 6dB across 50hz-80hz compared to under the seat. So the footwell is the best location, but can be in the way. Under the seat is more practical, but you need more cone area and/or power to get the same output levels. PS, that Rockville was rated at 100 watts (400 peak), but it only put out around 60w.

I recently got Hertz DBA 201 and I have to say, this thing makes the car vibrate and you can hear it from the OUTSIDE on closed doors/windows! It's not under the seat but it's so tiny it takes up almost zero space. I can recommend!
My thinking is for the everyday, casual listener that doesn't want to lose cargo space, a small enclosure of around .7 cubes, (2) 6.5" subs, powered off of 300-500 rms would satisfy most and only total maybe $300 and outperform an all-in-one joint like this.

I just installed something very close to this in a 2013 Hyundai Veloster that belongs to a friend of mine. It was the Tochinkar 10" 800W Slim Under Seat Powered Subwoofer. There are several different versions of it on Amazon with different name branding that I found. I had very little hope going into the install with the 800w rating and 15 amp fuse. However, this little thing surprised me. They definitely have their place in the market and they seem to be well built. Only downside I found was the power and ground wires. Very skimpy.

I left the speakers and regular setup I just ran a Rockford fosgate 1000/1 that truly put out what it says. A little more actually. Eventually I upgraded to an insane planet audio pro 3000/1 monoblock wired down to one ohm. Powering two 12 fosgate subs in separate custom sealed boxes I made. And then a blitz 50 farad cap. The wiring was from fosgate ought gauge power and ground and honestly this setup is loud as can be and definitely can be the kind where you can hear it from a block away or tone it down to where it's just balanced out. My other setup is alpine Component 10 inch screen. All the speakers are Memphis as are the 12s and the mono and speakers Amp. It's in my cadi stsv and is what I use if I wanna show off since the Amp is mounted to a hydraulic moving system. Think trying to replicate 2fast 2 furious. Awesome test, I'm in the situation in my small van of just 6.5 door speakers up front and theres just no bass, hearing the difference this made with just your rear 6.5s showed me an underseat all in one like this will fill in the sound nicely, not shaking the place down bass but just giving a full complete sound, great review thanks
Thank you. This sounds exactly like what I need. I have a tiny car with only two 6.5" speakers and two tweeters. There's no bass and really no room to put anything without losing what little space I have.
You are only getting half of the volume with only 1 RCA hooked up. Put a 2 way splitter on it and you will get both inputs connected and see how it sounds. 👌🏻
I have an under seat Sub and I was quite surprised by it's performance. I am happy with it. Only if I had two but the one is nice and it has a small footprint.
My 2010 Buick LaCrosse CXL actually bumps with the factory 6.5 components up front and 6.5 rears!…sounds even better now that I upgraded to JBL GTO 6.5 comps up front and GTO 6.5 coaxials in the rear!
I've sold and installed a lot of Bazooka Tubes and Aura Bass Shakers over the 3+ decades in automotive customization. I agree with you on multi function components of any sort. Most of these units are low air volume ported/sealed/free air, and the power requirements/limits on the speakers are VERY specific. I can't tell you how many lies I told for my customers to warranty their systems, who backyard de-tuned or overpowered their systems into distortion and blown coils. Going the extra mile gave me more compliance with my request to keep the tuning to us. Most likely, and understandably for longevity and lack of warranty issues, they make a mostly complete assembly.
Holy crap that radiator being hidden up in there like that is genius! In a nutshell, a radiator acts the same way a port would. So its response is a lot lower than if there were no radiator. That's why all the modern Bluetooth speakers' bass sounds so good. Also, somehow I knew you were a repair tech just from the way you handled your work area lol. Ive been a repair tech my whole life. My shop and house just burned down a couple months ago though... :(
I've installed a few under seat subwoofers. They're acceptable for people who absolutely don't want to sacrifice trunk space and it does round out the sound especially in smaller vehicles. But for the money there is no comparison to having a 10 or 12 sealed in the trunk. Or if you actually enjoy bass there are so many cheap options for ported 2 12's.
I appreciate your comparison and analysis. The fact that you took the time to highlight where it didn't shine vs where it could shine was a definite benefit. As an owner of an GMT400, OSB chevy, this is a solution that might just work well for me!
I have a kicker 10" sub/Amp combo in my truck and it sounds great. Perfect addition to add some thump to a stock system. I've had some wicked systems in the past and this was not that but not taking hours installing a custom setup for my work truck was nice and looks clean.
@0:41 im glad I am not the only one who forgets to remove plastic coverings. I have taken apart our pcs to do some cleaning and realized I never removed the plastic of our 3090s or motherboards, all kinds of stuff. My wife loves teasing me whenever we are unboxing things now.
Major difference from the stock speakers and then adding this Atoto subs. I am listening to this video with a home theater system and with this sub it made a diffence in the bass. Good Video, I liked watching it!
few things to note. Subs in general especially powered subs need to be mounted to a solid base. This will help with the kinetic energy to not be lost by the box moving with the sub. I have never done a DB test but I have mounted them firmly and have noticed a difference. not sure on this specific sub but I know out of the many different brands I have installed I have found the best to be the older kenwood with passive radiator or the newer kicker hideaway. jbl, alpine, newer kenwood all were lacking. rockville surprised me and did well. Now I will always say a traditional amp and sub will outperform these by 100, but if you must have one. I would test the kicker.
Well yeah, most small city cars came at best with 6.5" speakers, and no place for anything bigger.. I think that sub like this would be a great choice for rounding the sound picture :) Nice job man!!
Thank you for this, been considering an underseat sub for a while. I want something small, easy to install, doesn't have to be crazy good, just a little bit to enhance the bass, and it seems like this will do that. I know its never gonna perform as well as the proper sub setup I had when younger, just a little extra without much effort.
I have been in a lot of cheap ass car that has shitty sound system, this could be a game changing for those and its cheap n easy, not everybody wants to blast the whole neighborhood, some just wants decent sound that can play all the frequency properly.
I'm wondering if there was some bass cancellation going on when mounted under the seat. Maybe if they added a phase switch. Did it sound better in the trunk vs under the seat? The only other alternative is a small inexpensive powered bass tube. Might also be good for those wanting some extra mid bass fill up front if you have (like you said) smaller door speakers.
I have a Cerwin Vega 10 inch in my first gen tacoma and it's great. On a hot day it'll overheat and kick off sometimes, but that only if I'm really cranking it and listening to hiphop
It depends on the frequency response you're looking for, I see that sub's range is between 50hz - 150hz, that's more of the mid bass hence competing with your 6x9; there'd be a major difference if it were perhaps 20hz - 50hz.
for small spaces, those things are great. i have one in my single cab 84 dodge pickup with the only soft surfaces being the vinyl bench seat. i put the one from kicker under the passenger side of the seat, and it sounds pretty good
@masterbond9 they're not water resistant I have them propped off the floor for any dampness. I'm not in any water above door panels. I've had them for years. Started with some 8s then moved to 10s. No issues
I have a 2022 TRD off-road Tacoma double cab. I was looking at the under seat subwoofers in order to maintain my storage spaces in the cab. I wanted to go with a unit like this, except I want to switch the subwoofer to a JL audio 10TW1.
I would think that those who want to pull the bass a bit more forward and improve midbass at the drivers head could use one of these along with a full sub system in the trunk. You would need a dsp to tweak it into the system.
I actually have an X as well and looking for something else. I have single 12 and takes up to much space. Plus if it's not locked down. Slides all over the place. I do a little OL as well and need space in the back for camp supplies.
Under seat subs can easily bring up unpleasant filthy stench surprises if you are carrying someone who had no idea under their seat there is a sub when the music playing the bass wasn't playing then it suddenly plays
See this will fit nice in my setup , I have 2014 dodge charger it has the 6x9 upfront for door speakers and 3.5 in the dash and 6x9 in the rear deck.. I’m thinking of grabbing 2 of the 10s and put them under the front seats. It should make an astronomical difference!
This is ideal when you want to enhance your factory sound. Although, I would replace the factory speakers as well. I don’t know if newer cars have speakers with twitters in them, if they do, this little powered sub it’s all I would buy. I have 2011 Honda I’m not sure how the speakers are.
it sounds like what i need. i have a 2023 Traverse no bass at all. my thing is i want to wait until im near done paying for the car before i install components.
I have a cab plus or extra cab truck which would be considered a mini truck in usa this is pretty much my only option without losing my dry storage in the backseat area so i might pick up one of these units.
Now that it’s been a month since the vid came out, how are you enjoying it on the daily? Still feel it was worth it? I’m debating getting one of these for my Mazda CX9.. dunno if we want one under the driver seat or 2 under both front seats. Thanks for the detailed, thorough video! 🎉
So it's actually an 8in woofer and with the enclosure included it's a 10. Overall it's a good unit if you only have 4-6 in drivers in the Car. Thanks for the Review. (side note) 2 of them might really make some good "Punch" in a Sub Compact.
This isn't a knock against the sub at all, I'm just trying to learn. My mother has a 10 inch under the seat sub made by Kicker. I'm a big fan of Kicker, but this thing does not go low at all. I have an entry level sub from SVS that digs way lower and is way flatter in response. It sounds very one notish as well. I was very surprised at how poorly it performs, but this may be a question of expectation. Perhaps this is a very good sub for what it is? I don't have any previous experience with these types of subs. Any feedback would be appreciated.
They are not meant to get low. They are mean to 'fill' a gap in bass response. Example: BEFORE- "I can't really hear the bass drums in my music." AFTER- " I now hear and feel the bass drums in my music"
Hmm See I have a 03 buick lesabre, got the 6x9 kickers and 2 kicker 6 1/2s up front. Although it gives decent bass the flaw is no speakers in the rear doors 😢. The buicks don't have space under the seats either, BUT one unique thing is the backseat comes out which is where the battery is so I'm getting ideas about using that space should make up for the lack of rear speakers.
The bass shakers you speak of are transducers. … Another consideration is that these type of enclosures work better when mounted to a solid part of the vehicle much like the other stock speakers in the car. Most diy (non car audio persons) just Velcro them under the seat. Proper mounting likely makes a difference as well.
makes a better stage actually sounds good with doors and under seat adding some Sq style don't know where bass is coming from its just there filling in
subs are meant to be felt... how did they feel? Well you said it, it shakes your seat like crazy... But does it hit you in the chest like how subwoofers in the trunk would?
Hey man, do you think you could also include some EDM in the bass sound tests? :) It's mainly what I listen to so works as a better reference for me. Great video though! I'm currently looking into getting a subwoofer and amp for my Ford Ranger and space is limited in my dual cab so I'm looking into something compact.
That ain't to bad. I had two twelves JBL that were rated at 200 which I found out after they blew when I pulled em out to check the wiring. I got fooled by the 1000 watts logo on the front. Now they just take up space and don't even work -_-
I have 6x9 in the front Rockford 6.5 in the back doors Rockford and 4 mb quartz tweeters and I am looking for subs to fit underneath the truck front seats, I have a amp if needed already also, what would you recommend for straight bass subs? Thanks
I think most of theses subwoofers are active, not too many are passive. But if you have a pickup truck (crew-cab), options for under your rear seat is endless. But depending on your budget, almost every major brand is offering something for an active under-seat solution.
Personally, I prefer a sealed box. It's a deeper. more solid, stronger bass sound, and mainly stays within the vehicle. I have 2 10s, bridged on 750w RMS. It doesn't have the rolling down the street "wow" factor that the show & competition fans look for. Even with the windows down, it sounds like 6x9s standing next to the truck, but it'll rattle your teeth inside the truck.
Was that power line fused? Isnt it supposed to be as close to the battery as possible? You know what you are doing but some 16 year old starting out might burn his car down. :(
Previously with my old Joying Head Unit the powered sub woofer had tons of bass. When I had the new Joying Head Unit installed I can just barely hear the sub woofer. Need some help.
I like the video, but why did you only hook into one RCA terminal that didn't give the true power of the woofer? I would like to see you do another video with both RCA connectors attached to the under seat. Sub I have a 2014 Impala with the same stock system
8:20 😂😂 they was blasting that seat speaker to make sure it hits as its supposed to as the blueprint and charts of development says i mean hey telsa got German desginers for there subwoofers n tesla chevy Cadillac and a jeep renegade is the best stock speakers i heard by far

150w RMS isn't bad just to add some deep end to a stock system. That could actually be a decent addition for midbass.
A lot of these companies exaggerate the power figures. It could be a 100 or even 50 watts RMS.

Yea, @robwarejr.1494 just pointed that out, as well. I'll retest it off-line and give an update in a future video.
The sub is in mono, makes no difference if you put one RCA or Two
@@CmasCrawford some systems sum the voltages from each RCA. Just depends if it's internally wired as a parallel to series circuit.

I have an under seat Sub and I was quite surprised by it's performance. I am happy with it. Only if I had two but the one is nice and it has a small footprint.
1 under each seat might actually sound OK. But personally I want so so much more lol.
Perfect for small cars like coupes or single cab pickups 🛻
It's definitely not good for the sound
My 2010 Buick LaCrosse CXL actually bumps with the factory 6.5 components up front and 6.5 rears!…sounds even better now that I upgraded to JBL GTO 6.5 comps up front and GTO 6.5 coaxials in the rear!
Nice to know.
Wow. Sorry to hear about your home. Hopefully you fully recover too normal soon.
I'm glad you found it helpful!
I was pretty surprised myself by how much of a difference it made!
few things to note.
It actually does have a phase switch. I simply forgot to test it while it was under the seat.
I'm glad I stumbled on this. Got one in my amazon cart now and gonna do some more research. Great unbiased review!
Glad it was helpful!
I have the cerwin vega spare tire round powered sub, and it sounds great. I got my trunk back, it weight is lower than my old amp and box,.
for small spaces, those things are great. i have one in my single cab 84 dodge pickup with the only soft surfaces being the vinyl bench seat. i put the one from kicker under the passenger side of the seat, and it sounds pretty good
They are a good option for my jeep. I can ride with my tops off and no one k ows they are under the seat. Add just enough to round out the sound.
@@warleswil3080I didn't think that there would be water resistant models, unless you're just going for it and seeing what happens
@masterbond9 they're not water resistant I have them propped off the floor for any dampness. I'm not in any water above door panels. I've had them for years. Started with some 8s then moved to 10s. No issues
@@warleswil3080 oh, ok - that works too then
I have a 2022 TRD off-road Tacoma double cab.
I plan on going with two Infinity Basslink MINI's under the front seats and a 10 inch MB Quart subwoofer in the back of a TrailBlazer.
Lookin for something like this for my Xterra... bcuz it's used for overlanding the space I have is limited. Perfect review.
I actually have an X as well and looking for something else. I have single 12 and takes up to much space. Plus if it's not locked down. Slides all over the place. I do a little OL as well and need space in the back for camp supplies.
*I have 2 set up under my seat in my Chevy Avalanche, its a nice bass boost* just enough for me, but it's not crazy to draw attention!
I always test my speakers with Outkast's Speakerboxxx.
Under seat subs can easily bring up unpleasant filthy stench surprises if you are carrying someone who had no idea under their seat there is a sub when the music playing the bass wasn't playing then it suddenly plays
😂😂😂😂
His Boxes=Beautiful
His Connections=🍝 Scrambled Spaghetti 😅
😁
Ok we need more videos of under the seat subs!!
Women want to test this. Ever see Private Parts?
i wonder if its playing out of phase from the door speakers.
Make a new slim box for it the rite way👍 I'm watching 👀
This is ideal when you want to enhance your factory sound. Although, I would replace the factory speakers as well. I don’t know if newer cars have speakers with twitters in them, if they do, this little powered sub it’s all I would buy. I have 2011 Honda I’m not sure how the speakers are.
You can definitely upgrade the front speakers to make it sound even better.
it sounds like what i need. i have a 2023 Traverse no bass at all. my thing is i want to wait until im near done paying for the car before i install components.
I have a cab plus or extra cab truck which would be considered a mini truck in usa this is pretty much my only option without losing my dry storage in the backseat area so i might pick up one of these units.
@@SuperWesty177 let us know how it turn out.
I was thinking the same.
Steve Harvey is that you??....lol....good video
should invest in shrink tubes instead of insulating with tape, otherwise looks good 👍
Bmw comes with under seat subs and mine sounds really good. People can't belive that they are under the seat
Nice i have been using one for about 2years now
One for each seat. Also would have been helpful to see if setting the gain properly for the people interested in these units.
The bass shakers you speak of are transducers. … Another consideration is that these type of enclosures work better when mounted to a solid part of the vehicle much like the other stock speakers in the car. Most diy (non car audio persons) just Velcro them under the seat. Proper mounting likely makes a difference as well.
I agree. They do come with metal mounting hardware and the manual does have them mounted in multiple configurations.
makes a better stage actually sounds good with doors and under seat adding some Sq style don't know where bass is coming from its just there filling in
I have a crv, we have 6 1/2 for mids, i have skar 6 1/2 subs in the doors . the 6 1/2 i got do bass very very well.
That is a very good set up.
Could you do reviews on shallow mount 12’s and spl test? It would be interesting
subs are meant to be felt... how did they feel? Well you said it, it shakes your seat like crazy... But does it hit you in the chest like how subwoofers in the trunk would?
Subs are meant to play 'sub' sonic frequencies.
I have a pair under seats on my berlingo, good bass add for everyday listening
Hey man, do you think you could also include some EDM in the bass sound tests? :) It's mainly what I listen to so works as a better reference for me. Great video though! I'm currently looking into getting a subwoofer and amp for my Ford Ranger and space is limited in my dual cab so I'm looking into something compact.
I'll try!
I'm good, my 2015 lexus ct200h fsports stock sound system is just as good.
That ain't to bad. I had two twelves JBL that were rated at 200 which I found out after they blew when I pulled em out to check the wiring. I got fooled by the 1000 watts logo on the front. Now they just take up space and don't even work -_-
Hi bro I just ordered a hertz dba 201 f under seat, where is better to install the subwoofer driver side or passenger side?🤔
nice video but uderseat subs are kinda useless my opinion
U SHOULD ADD ANOTHER 1 2 THE PASSENGER SEAT.
Bro, I appreciate your content.
My pleasure!
I just bought the Hyanker 10 but it hasn't gotten here yet.
Cool. Let us know what you think of it.
I have 6x9 in the front Rockford
6.5 in the back doors Rockford and 4 mb quartz tweeters and I am looking for subs to fit underneath the truck front seats, I have a amp if needed already also, what would you recommend for straight bass subs?
Thanks
I think most of theses subwoofers are active, not too many are passive. But if you have a pickup truck (crew-cab), options for under your rear seat is endless. But depending on your budget, almost every major brand is offering something for an active under-seat solution.
best for little trucks, id say
Personally, I prefer a sealed box. It's a deeper. more solid, stronger bass sound, and mainly stays within the vehicle. I have 2 10s, bridged on 750w RMS. It doesn't have the rolling down the street "wow" factor that the show & competition fans look for. Even with the windows down, it sounds like 6x9s standing next to the truck, but it'll rattle your teeth inside the truck.
That's a great choice for SQ.
Good review greetings from SPAIN...
@@Moncho68 glad that you liked it. Welcome to the channel!
I’ve wanted to try them in a bandpass configuration
This was a great video my man, loved it💪🏾 straight forward & well thought out!
Was that power line fused? Isnt it supposed to be as close to the battery as possible? You know what you are doing but some 16 year old starting out might burn his car down. :(
Great choice of amps 😎👍🏽
Thanks! 👍
Imagine life without bass :(
Not enough bass enough for me but can't expect too much from a underseat sub
I’ve made my own using mb quart discus total fail. Like he said my 6.5 doors had better bass response.
Does this rely exclusively on the remote wire to power up or does it have a sound trigger, like in a typical home theatre set up?
@@lenbeedle does not need the remote gain
Thank you kindly, Steve Harvey
I hope your thinking about making a super flat horn for that sub sir
I woukd like 2 units that produce low end for a cadillac xlr. Esp if i can hide them under the dash or seats
Look at the Infinity Basslink MINI. It's rated to 30 Hz.
Previously with my old Joying Head Unit the powered sub woofer had tons of bass. When I had the new Joying Head Unit installed I can just barely hear the sub woofer. Need some help.
You'll have to make sure the sub is wired correctly and that the head unit is actually putting out enough power.
Great real world testing/results.
Why don't good brands make 10s and only 8s? And are the ones that say 10s actually 8s?
Thank u for sharing! Always on point!
Any time!
I like the video, but why did you only hook into one RCA terminal that didn't give the true power of the woofer? I would like to see you do another video with both RCA connectors attached to the under seat. Sub I have a 2014 Impala with the same stock system
Great point. Didn't really think about it, to be honest... the summing of the inputs.
Does the Impala have ANC (Active Noise Cancellation)? You might need to deactivate the ANC when adding subs.
This is a non Bose system, so typically, no.
8:20 😂😂 they was blasting that seat speaker to make sure it hits as its supposed to as the blueprint and charts of development says i mean hey telsa got German desginers for there subwoofers n tesla chevy Cadillac and a jeep renegade is the best stock speakers i heard by far
Any chance of an Alpine PWD-X5 review?
I like alot more bass than these put out but a good option for some guys
It worth only for teen drivers and older folk who don’t want the boom
Y u didn't plug into both rca inputs???
It's worth it for the average listener. If you're a car audio enthusiast, it's not worth it.
Im curious if that flat 10" is louder than a 6.5 sub in ported box in the trunk?
It's not.
