Hong Kong at this time was very politically unstable, his reaction and the reason he probably reiterates following election law is because he is afraid of widespread riots.
I love how he switches from Mandarin, to Cantonese, to English and back Edit: I haven't checked on this comment for 9 months, and there's a whole political debate here (and people calling me a communist)
I doubt you could find many places where Jiang and Trump disagreed (of course lots of places where interests are contrary, but that's not really solved through debate)
@@marcusatiusvirilis7723 They are both non ideological pragmatists focused on their own national interest, as opposed to the more ideologically driven who have succeeded Jiang and preceded Trump. Jiang's was the hand picked successor to Deng Xiaoping who famously said "don't care if it's a black cat or a white cat, as long as it catches mice, it's at good cat". Jiang presided of China's fastest period of growth, and though the US is a mature market, we're also seeing the results of a leader focused on economic growth and ultimately jobs. Surely would they would disagree about what they would like to see happen, as China and US interests are largely a zero sum game, but as for a debate, I'm pretty sure they would mostly agree about what should be done and why, with the exception of Trump and the US being very open to public disagreement and protest. These two would be more suitable for a "panel discussion" than a debate. For full disclosure, there's reason to believe that Zhu Rongji was actually the one working behind the scenes to make Jiang look successful.

Skylab the reporter was setting up a trap, asking Jiang whether he “supports” that Hong Kong official or not. If Jiang said yes, the headline next day would be Mainland government appoints Hong Kong SAR’s top official, breaking the agreement of Hong Kong’s freedom of election. If Jiang says no, the headline would be chairman of China is openly against official elected thru democratic process in Hong Kong. Consequently no matter how Jiang answers the question, he would be painted in a bad way by that reporter. Jiang sees thru that, which is why Jiang calls the reporter too simple, too naive, compared the reporter to Wallace, who also tried to set up trick questions like this during his interview with Jiang but had done so more sophisticatedly (Jiang did not fall into Wallace’s traps either). Jiang then proceeds to very clearly explain that his support doesn’t mean appointment from the government itself, and whether he supports or not doesn’t matter because the official was elected by Hong Kong people, answering the trick question without leaving any loose end for defamation. If this kind of questions were asked to Xi, he wouldn’t bother to answer at all. So could Jiang, but Jiang in this video couldn’t resist to teach the reporter a lesson.
exactly, that’s the only thing that makes a leader good. Politics? How he’s running the country? Nah those don’t fucking matter. Hey trump seems really human! Vote for him and keep him on!
Here in China we have made up a race between him and other political leaders or head national figures who were born around the same time to see who’s going to stay in this world longer than other “competitors” Right now Mrs.Tatcher, mr. Wallace have lost the race, and Queen Elizabeth seems to be the easy winner of this race😂

You know what? This is refreshing. I don't care what this man is saying or who he is. The fact that a politician is speaking from heart and not being a robot about it is totally refreshing! Heck, I'm pretty sure the usual robotic tone all politicians use is another way of making politics boring and deterring people away from getting into how countries are truly run. Still, this happened, and I'm happy. Peace from Saudi Arabia. :) EDIT: Perhaps the way this man is talking could be fabricated to deter the questions away from him, meaning this reprimanding style of speech is another old and classic tactic of dealing with the media, meaning perhaps I praised this as a refreshing video for nothing. lol
He lost control because he thought that Hongkong reporters didn't get to ask HIM tough questions, so he decided to teach them a lesson. And that is because he thought Hongkong was already part of China and the reporters there should behave themselves, more or less like those from the mainland. That's the real reason he showed his true side (I suspect there was no western media present on that day). If a reporter from the Chinese Central Television dared to ask him a similar question, Jiang would immediately fire the chief of that TV station and call this a serious political incident.
i think u r wrong. Jiang met many reports, especially Wallace, an American interviewer. u can find some videos about him and Wallace who mentioned autocracy, Fa Lungong, and etc. In this video in Hong Kong, it does not mean he didn't dare to answer the question put forward by the young reporter, but mean those young reporters of Mandarin and Hong Kong are supposed to improve their questions' quantity because the question in the video is so easy to Jiang, and Jiang must thought you are too naive to ask much experienced politician, or someone having higer status abroad. It's my opinion to Jiang , and, only Jiang, not to today's CCP . ( yet maybe i don't know him enough)
From at least what it sounds like here even if that is partially his point I don't think that this is his full argument. I think he found the way they would ask the questions to be lazy, leading / pointed. @@wujijianchuqiao

Roman I don’t think you guys got the point, which is understandable since you are likely not familiar with the relationship between China and Hong Kong SAR. Hong Kong is a special region in China that has a different political system granted for 50 years. During which Hong Kong would have a democratic system. At the time of this video, the new top official of Hong Kong, who was sitting next to Jiang, was just elected. The collectivism; the utter lack of regard for the individual is what bothers most of us. For instance: on the surface, I like the social credit philosophy. There is no perfect form of policies that satisfy everyone at the same time , things are improving and don’t get brainwashed by the west , the America era is almost ending and the world is evolving u can’t just simply think that the world is still working base on American standards . Free of speech doesn’t work on many many countries and don’t misunderstand the meaning of it and abuse it .that’s what many people do nowadays . Sometimes people have to pay for what came out of their mouth. That’s why u can’t speak recklessly in the court and then simply change your statement because of “freedom of speech” and don’t forget China is China , it has their own set of rules and way of life which might has a conflict with the west but eventually China is not putting their standard against the west , which means we expect the west should at least respect it . U may find many Chinese are speaking or defending for the country or the ccp especially in the topic of human rights. Some of their statement might have conflicting your ideas which makes you think they are brainwashed . But standing on the other side on a different perspective , why not at least try to understand why . World media is not reliable and people get to see what they are apportioned to see. That’s the universal rules . So keep your head clear and try to look at the world more precisely u may find many different stuff that you would’ve never expected. China has gotten rid of the title of communism that’s what many people know but don’t wanna accept. It’s fully capitalism and socialism which completely go against communism . I know there is no point of saying it but look, the world fear communism and even us we feared the past communist 30 years ago , the west media surely over exaggerate too much and thats why when Chinese people see these stuffs and westerners comments they feel unbelievable. He only applied some reforms and developed the green energy industry, there were no disorders or killings during his presidency. Stop shitting from your mouth and misinforming people as you clearly have no clue what you're talking about
In this video, Jiang said he was a supporter of Mr. Dong, but the reporter intentionally rephrased it as Jiang would internally appoint Mr. Dong. Jiang was very disappointed that the media intentionally misrepresented his opinions in order to get a piece of "breaking news", so he reiterated that "if you asked me whether I'm a supporter of Mr. Dong, I would say yes. However, the election must follow the law, including the basic law and the law of election." Despite his explanation, the reporter would just not give up misinterpreting Jiang's opinions, which made Jiang angry. Jiang made it very clear that if the reporter insisted on falsifying his opinions in her coverage, she would have to be responsible for any consequences related to it. Jiang also hoped all the reporters could improve their professional skills and stop being "too young, too simple, sometimes naive". He used Wallace, who interviewed him once, as an example of a "high level" journalist and said that Wallace was way higher than those reporters. Jiang has three very popular videos among the young people of mainland China, and this is only part of the first one (1: HK Reporter, 2: Visiting Eryuan, 3: Interview with Wallace). All three videos are available on TH-cam. The videos were initially used by some people (FLG) to portray Jiang as a bad figure. Contrary to their expectation, people very soon realized Jiang was only telling the truth and started to appreciate his charming personality. These videos, as well as his personal experiences, have been inspiring young people in mainland China to be knowledgable and rise to challenges in their lives. Just like what Jiang said in this video, the description of this video, though I'm not sure it was written by which "reporter", is kind of misleading. Nothing Jiang said was insane, but some comparisons between his true opinions and the reporter's interpretation, and his expectation of professional journalism. The reporter could be a bit scared back then, but she was definitely happy about this 20 years later as I saw her helping sell Jiang-related souvenirs online around 2018.
Thank you for this nuanced explanation. So absurd how this is framed to once again demonize China and even to make dumb points about the lack of press freedom.
Transfusions the reporter set up a trap. If he says he support Mr. Tung, the news next day will be CCP appoints leader of HK and ignore the democratic process. If he says no then the news will be CCP is against the leader elected by HK. If he refuse to answer and keep silent then the news will be CCP secretly intervene HK democratic process.
I know this for a fact: when elder chinese can’t answer a question, they usually say bullshit in roundabout, meandering ways to skirt the issue, then accuse you of being too young, etc.
@@chengejshi5523 Jiang said himself he should not reply... Yet he replied!!! Jiang did not choose none, he chose one, one he admitted he should not choose. How delusional are you? Or rather, please explain to me how Jiang "chose none".
How would you reply in his place then? If you say you support, I will say you made an inside decision which is an infringement of the democratic right of HK people, if you say you don’t support, I will say you are against the democratically elected leader of HK and by extension against democracy. It is not a question, it is rhetoric. And your failure to see that proved his point.

Jiang had a “Did these mothafuckas seriously ask me that dumbass question” moment.
Skylab Lmao

( yet maybe i don't know him enough)

ya he is the manager, but it was still a bad question bc there would have been a set line to respond and he said it, "hes currently running honk kong so i support him, in the next election the election laws will judge"
nah it is as if the reporter is trying to lead jiang to say yes to china has internally arranged and appoint who the next hk manager is, which if he followed down the path would mean china meant to break the 1 country 2 system at that time. of cz being intelligent as jiang is, he saw through the trick and fuk the reporter over
Roman I don’t think you guys got the point, which is understandable since you are likely not familiar with the relationship between China and Hong Kong SAR. Hong Kong is a special region in China that has a different political system granted for 50 years. During which Hong Kong would have a democratic system. At the time of this video, the new top official of Hong Kong, who was sitting next to Jiang, was just elected.
What happened was that the reporter was setting up a trap/trick question, asking Jiang whether he “supports” that Hong Kong official or not. If Jiang had said yes, the headline next day would be “Mainland government appoints Hong Kong SAR’s top official”, breaking the agreement of Hong Kong’s freedom of election. If Jiang had said no, the headline would be “chairman of China is openly against official elected thru democratic process in Hong Kong.” Consequently no matter how Jiang answers the question, he would be painted in a bad way by that reporter, which is what the reporter was clearly trying to do here.
Jiang sees thru that, which is why Jiang called the reporter “too simple, too naive”, and compared her to Wallace, a famous American reporter at the time, and the first person to have interviewed the chairman of China. During that interview, he also tried to set up trick questions like this but had done so more sophisticatedly (Jiang did not fall into Wallace’s traps either).
Jiang then proceeded to very clearly explain that his support doesn’t mean appointment from the government itself, and whether he supports or not doesn’t matter because the official was elected by Hong Kong people, answering the trick question without leaving any loose end for defamation.
If this kind of questions were asked to Xi, he wouldn’t bother to answer at all. Likewise Jiang didn’t have to either, but Jiang in this video couldn’t resist to teach the reporter a lesson.
The famous quote: TOO YOUNG TOO SIMPLE, SOMETIMES NAIVE!

Could you tell us who the reporter is?
thank you for this information
You get your50 Mao today?
@@darrylkassle361 u just cannot handle the truth. Labeling others does not help your argument.
Thank you for this nuanced explanation. So absurd how this is framed to once again demonize China and even to make dumb points about the lack of press freedom.

Camera work like the Office. This could be “The Office CCP”
Oh gosh you’re right 😂
LMFAOOOO IM HOLLERING he could be michael scott

“The committee”
There used to be a German Version of the Office which in turn got another parody with the setting being the nazi Headquarter of Obersalzberg
Uhm, comrade, this is a Wendy’s.
Kit Johnson Omg that’s hilarious 😂
to be honest, he's right, no problem with his speak.
ikr
.
the real truth is most often left untold.
Transfusions you dont understand what they are talking
Transfusions the reporter set up a trap. If he says he support Mr. Tung, the news next day will be CCP appoints leader of HK and ignore the democratic process. If he says no then the news will be CCP is against the leader elected by HK. If he refuse to answer and keep silent then the news will be CCP secretly intervene HK democratic process.
Try this with Winnie the Pooh! 😂
Hardly "freaking out", rather annoyed at being probed by reporters.
I agree, its warranted
Barrios Groupie exactly! But that’s someone’s opinion when headlining it!
More like throwing a tantrum like an elderly toddler..
He was a political leader, he needs to be probed
Politicians really shouldn't be freaking out when asked hard, or even biased, questions by the media. This goes for Trump as well.
I know this for a fact: when elder chinese can’t answer a question, they usually say bullshit in roundabout, meandering ways to skirt the issue, then accuse you of being too young, etc.
Victim mentality in a nutshell
@@micheleeeable lol, have you looked at how the ccp views history?
They are.. or want to be... the biggest victims ever
@@chengejshi5523 Jiang said himself he should not reply... Yet he replied!!! Jiang did not choose none, he chose one, one he admitted he should not choose.
How delusional are you?
Or rather, please explain to me how Jiang "chose none".
They all ethnicity. Lol they do that all around.

There was no firewall back then, China was one of the most open societies in Asia, just without anarchy. unless you wanted to form a riot, there was literally nothing anyone couldn’t say or do in those days.
