I am completely self taught.. as a teenager, I used to record myself singing on my mom's karaoke machine.. when I listened to how I sounded, I could see where I needed work and that's where I focused my practice on.. I'd do that repetitively for years, training my voice and experimenting with different sounds and ways of singing certain songs.. all it took was me dedicating myself to my practice and being honest with myself about what I needed to work on.. some songs aren't very compatible with my voice, but I learned what was for me and what wasn't.. now I can pretty much sing a multitude of different songs, male or female, no matter what genre it may be.. I passed that way of teaching myself to my daughter and she actually decided to audition for The Voice at 14-15 years old.. I supported her all the way, but told her she still needed more time to train herself because her voice wasn't yet developed enough.. after her audition, she told me that the talent scout had told her the same thing I did.. she was confused how I knew about these kinda things, because she knew I had never had any kinda professional assistance, and I told her I learned everything I know from trial and error practice and experiments.. so now she's learning how to practice with more dedication than ever before and it's paying off..STAY BLESSED NOT STRESSED
I used to do this too but instead of a karaoke machine I used two cassette tape players. I’d record myself and then rewind the tape and sing a harmony along with it while the second tape player recorded the two of me. I learned how to sing harmony that way cause I could hear where it was off and then fix it. What a primitive time that was🤣🤣
I've literally been doing this since 2017 and I have friends that are good and have potential to be great so I told them to record and listen back to it and they are already improving after a few months

i was in an elite choir when i was younger and i was literally a first soprano but now im like a tenor who can sing some bass stuff so when my voice changed i kinda lost everything and ive taken years of voice lessons and im afraid i still haven’t gotten it back
I have a motorcycle, and everytime when im one a long journey (wich is a lot) i always sing. Once i recorded it with my phone, trough my earphones, and its sounded good, i dont say im expert, im an amateur, but that gave me hope to be ready to do something in fl studio, i will also order a guitar in a month so, i wonder what i could achieve.
I’ve heard good feedback from trainers, teachers, strangers. But like. I still feel like I’m terrible. Especially when it’s all I have and even that’s mediocre. At least in my eyes. I don’t know how to get over MY criticism. I know I can be so SO much better but I just never quite reach that level. Always just barely below my expectations. Others praise me when I sing but I’m always in my own head going over every thing I did wrong. Breath was too long here, off beat there, and didn’t quite have the right resonance with that high note, etc. I want to improve but I fear I’m the one holding myself back from embracing and improving at the one thing I love
I have been singing since I was 9 years old. Was in choir 3 years in Jr high. I sang in my friends church in the church choir as a tenor. I've practiced with many different people. My voice seems to sound the most like Carol King. I also tried Kareokee in a bar 1 night and people actually clapped afterwards. My biggest issue is that I get very nervous and get stage fright even though I have danced in front of many audiences for many years. It's very different though. Could someone give me some advice about how to get over this problem?
IAM self taught too and it took me so long time to get over that shyness wen I first started and I learned very fast not to ask your mom or dad for there feed back on your singing because family will tell U sound good because they don't wanna hurt your feelings so ask a random person from church or one of your friends from skool
I took choir last year in school and when I auditioned for a trio part in a song because I was too scared for a solo. The teacher stared at me for a few seconds, and I got the part. I then sang it 3 times every 5 minutes because I’m scared of sounding bad
When I was a 7 year old, I wanted to become a singer, when I was 8 my dad said that I'm a really bad singer. Skip to my teens, I tried to sing again, some of my friends who were into music said I suck at it so I gave up again. Now when I became an adult my ex who was in a church choir and professionally trained singer said that I'm not a good singer and can never be so I should give up. Hence, I completely gave up, I think they were right. Sometimes we just don't get things we want in life and that's okay.
This made me so sad... When i was 8 my mom said the same to me. But i always had the dream to become good at singing. So i started to practise 2 years ago. EVERY DAY. Well lemme say, at first even a screaming cat sounded better then me, but after 2 years i am finaly seeing some improvement. Because my mom said i was bad when i was 8 im still scared to sing with others around me, but thats okay, i know ill get there at some point. Untill that i will just keep practicing alone. Just sing, and watch others sing. Others like withney, or mariah or other great singers. And record ur voice. Listen back to it. Then u will become better, i know it for 100% Please do this and then give me a update in a year
since when does their opinion count? Singing is a skill , most people are not born with it.. They had to learn it , sure.. There are things in life that you couldn't controle , but this isn't 1 of them ..Cause you had the option to get singing classes.. But you didn't. It's not because " you're not good " at it , that you should give up. It's your dream , it can only be achieved when you follow it. Have you even heard Ed Sheeran? He was so horrible that I gained confidence .. But he learned it. Become Ed Sheeran.
I’ve been to 3 different gigs at anime conventions where i’ve done small setlists and so far, ehilst i odnt pull in a big crowd, i’ve never recieved an insult or a negative opinion of me so far, so i think im doing something right!
I can hit pitch, I don’t warble, and I can sing accurate harmonies spontaneously without rehearsal. HOWEVER. I do NOT have a quality singing voice. So I can be a backup singer in many contexts, and can sing in a choir - but I am not a lead singer.
People telling me to shut up because they dont like me when we're in a choir group does WONDERS for my self esteem! Definitely wont be singing in public ever again!
Guys, I want the earth to suck me in. I auditioned last night for the worship team with my sister. The person who was judging us, walked up to my sister and told her they would basically work well together. She didnt even look at me and just walked off. Which was so weird to me because when I had been practicing many people thought I was good now I just feel like such a failure
I’ve been singing for about 7 years, got vocal lessons, and I am still terrible some days and still feels uncomfortable even with proper technique. It seems like some people hate my singing even though my vocal coach says I have extremely good pitch and technique.
Can someone tell me how to become a good singer without vocal training? My parents don’t support me becoming a singer and they won’t pay for the training..
I used to have a theory thats not totally crazy. Women can be taught to sing they can train and end up good. Men tend to either be good or bad and no amount of lessons will change it
I mean I kinda see what you mean, I think that lower voices are harder to keep on pitch and mens voices tend to be louder and rougher so sounding musical can be difficult. Im a bass-baritone and my voice is very loud even thou people wouldnt think so lol because I speak kinda low but anyway it makes my low notes pretty difficult to keep tight. My best singing range is from ~F#2-E4 in chest voice and my full range in chest in somewhere around D2-A4 but thats usually impractical af because I have to push those notes and it doesnt sound very good atleast not to me personally, not that really anything I sing sounds good to me lmfao
I have been getting mixed opinions, I’ve had my little sister (16) say I can sing. I’ve had a couple old friends have the face of “wow, you can sing?” And I’ve had other people tell me I was a good singer but then I’ve had some people I was bad and didn’t sound good, I just keep quote on quote singing and may only be in the shower but I do try work on it and do keep asking for feedback from certain people, useless story but yeah
I worked every Friday and Saturday evening for 25 years as a karaoke DJ. In addition to 10 years as the lead singer and trumpet player in my own band. If you can't sing vocal lessons are a waste of time and money.
At this point im totally confused lol. Like, i had to get a couple shorts on youtube as a final resort, hoping people on the internet give me their honest reviews and constructive critism which is not based on politeness 😂

This is my favorite video because the advice is so ridiculous: “Go sing at a train station and see if anyone throws a can at you. If so, you are a bad singer.”

Sometimes I cringe at my own voice when playing it back...other times I'm proud and amazed. 🤣
U made me laugh bro idk if that story is real though 😂😂😂
Could someone give me some advice about how to get over this problem?
thanks bro
IAM self taught too and it took me so long time to get over that shyness wen I first started and I learned very fast not to ask your mom or dad for there feed back on your singing because family will tell U sound good because they don't wanna hurt your feelings so ask a random person from church or one of your friends from skool
I really dont care about my singing voice but the girl at 0:42 is a beauty😂
❤❤
I love singing
Then u will become better, i know it for 100%
Please do this and then give me a update in a year
since when does their opinion count?
Thanks for letting me know my brother wants to be a singer a famous one so thank you
My kids tell me all the time that i suck... it's pretty clear.
I Only Got Good At Singing Only After 5 Years Of Self Taught Vocal Training G1 To G7 6 Octaves Of Range Is Talent Right There Folks!
People tell me I sound good but I always think they’re just being nice
People telling me to shut up because they dont like me when we're in a choir group does WONDERS for my self esteem! Definitely wont be singing in public ever again!
Guys, I want the earth to suck me in. I auditioned last night for the worship team with my sister. The person who was judging us, walked up to my sister and told her they would basically work well together. She didnt even look at me and just walked off. Which was so weird to me because when I had been practicing many people thought I was good now I just feel like such a failure
Bro didnt tell is how to tell if were good or bad, he just fed us his own musocal sob story 😂
I’ve been singing for about 7 years, got vocal lessons, and I am still terrible some days and still feels uncomfortable even with proper technique. It seems like some people hate my singing even though my vocal coach says I have extremely good pitch and technique.
So sing in the presence of company and ask for their opinion, or gauge their reaction? I could’ve told you that
Must been nice, you had that many friends like that no wonder you were motivated
Can someone tell me how to become a good singer without vocal training? My parents don’t support me becoming a singer and they won’t pay for the training..
Outta SF 🌉
I was training since I was 8 and singing since I was 4 and still bad but I kept my vocal range at least
I've lost control of my voice. Buy I need to get good man. That's what I want to be my bread.
Everyone can improve but to be a good singer its a gift from God something your born with
All skills are learned and practiced.
If your friend group aint shy about telling each other to never sing again never ask you to stop singing, that's a good clue lol
What about people who think they are good and can’t see how they clear out a room ? How do you address them with out them blowing their top ? Lol
😊💙
At this point im totally confused lol. Like, i had to get a couple shorts on youtube as a final resort, hoping people on the internet give me their honest reviews and constructive critism which is not based on politeness 😂
Hi my name is Ray Robinson and I do a lot of karaoke in I have a lot of people that loves my voice and I'm wondering can I take this voice old father I know I'm an older guy 62 will be 63 in February and I ran up on your comments and I like it I like have you done things because I'll tell you I've been singing forever ever since I was 9 years old at least and I love singing I just need to know more about it can you help a brother out let me know once again I'm St Louis Ray Robinson have a good morning and mostly be safe
So who did you first get singing voice lessons from
Well my friends tell me you sing really good, cause I've been training for three months but I think I still suck at singing idk why
Me hearing he was 21 previously : 🤔🤔
Me also : wait he's not 21!?
Yea but all vocal lessons are like $50 now 💀
This is my favorite video because the advice is so ridiculous:
“Go sing at a train station and see if anyone throws a can at you. If so, you are a bad singer.”
Watching this while knowing I’m a horrendous singer lmao
I'm sad nobody says if I'm good or bad so I'm always changing and get confused😢
How do u know if ur a bad singer?
If someone throws a can at you
If someone yells "SHUT THE FUCK UP" directly or indirectly.
I’d say I’m like very good
Im so bad i punched myself to shut me up.
I have high confidence about my voice but I’m 💯 a bad singer and those adults when I was 13 to 10 said I have a good voice, they lied for sure and I mean don’t get me wrong about my mom told me that I have chipmunk 🐿️ voice and I need to fix it and that’s when I got insecure a little bcuz I thought I have a nice voice but I guess I don’t (sharing my story lolololol)😂😂😅
