Thank you for being one of the only people on TH-cam who made a video addressing this! After updating the firmware, my Kenwood unit works perfectly with wireless CarPlay without having the speed sense wire connected
Can you do a video on how to find the VSS wire on different Toyota vehicles? A Prado 150 series would be ideal for me but I am sure others would be interest.
oh man hopefully this solves my problem adding oem nav unit to my vehicle but vehicle speed sensor is a different wiring harness located under dash on body control module hard to solder this might solve my issues going to look more into this product
You are not actually helping locating the VSS Wire but rather pushing your own product....This is why the internet is broken.

So where is the actual Toyota vehicle factory vss wire? from what I can google, is only goes to the ECU. and not up behind the stereo? can you confirm if it does and the plug and color of the wire. Also is that different to the TAC on the OBDII port? 2018 Toyota Hilux
I just had a similar problem. Installed my pioner 1700nex like a week ago and was working perfectly fine. Unit was installed in my 2006 Nissan 350z Touring and now displays “Speed sensor disconnected” affecting CarPlay navigation; completely messes up my current location. Still confused cause I never connected speed sensor since there is no wire to connect (from the car) since speed sensor gauge is behind the steering wheel
Do you know how to find or what colour the vss wire is on the new mg cars

The JVC KW-M950BW (same but different) units have a VSS wire but head unit only seems to ask for the GPS antenna to be plugged in. Also testing a waveform generator (Jaycar), with a slight modification, hooked to the VSS wire to trick unit into thinking it has the VSS square wave signal. Info from Kenwood is vague whether VSS is used for augmenting navigation dead reckoning. There is also an OBD2 adapter module available from Kenwood that’ll give VSS output for later model cars.
have the above jvc kw m950bw installing in forester 2010, do I need to use the pink wire and gps antenna or just gps, or will the firm ware update work? Installing the unit very soon

On my pioneer it keeps telling me that speed sensor disconnect but I just put it on. My Apple CarPlay is choppy because of it I think.
My pioneer is doing the same. Honestly I just unplugged the gps Antenna and use the wired CarPlay.

You should actually change your comment to lazy people don’t care about hooking up the VSS, Hooking up the VSS wire will actually make your navigation more accurate when it comes to speed and distances!

you need steering wheel control interface
The steering wheel control bottons works as simple simple open/close switches (in a different way in any type of car). 3rd party audio systems works with a different kind of signal and you need the interface to translate the steering wheel control actions to the signals the audio system can read.
I just purchased the aerpro steering wheel control interface and will install it to Mazda 2
Do you need to pick up an adapter from either maestro or PAC audio in order to retain steering wheel controls! Also you can find your VSS signal wire in the wiring harness going to your instrument cluster, It is extremely easy plus it makes your navigation more accurate when it comes to speed and distances! I have a 2006 Nissan frontier witches the same things!

why is it that there 2 black wites? are they both ground wires?
One is an input for the VSS module output. One is earth to power the unit.

You are correct you do not need to hook up the vehicle speed sensor wire, However if you do your GPS and navigation information will be more accurate!

@@blanked_out_chin Even though they have an update Kenwood radios work much better with the VSS wire hooked up, The navigation is more accurate when it comes to speed and distances! I have no idea why people are so lazy when it comes to one little pink wire, I’m mostly model vehicles you can usually find it in the wiring harness going to the instrument cluster!
