The AWD system is used to help you get out if you’re stuck in mud/snow,also this system also helps the fuel economy. If you needed full time awd wouldn’t you at least have done a test drive with your wife to figure out the Nissan only has the “smart” awd system? Not looking for trouble, just asking. My bad if my question seems rude,I assure you it’s not meant to be.
@@penvon We took it for a test ride in the summer and the sales rep for Nissan never mentioned anything about the AWD being disabled after 25 mph. My wife found out the hard way in the winter time. The Mazdas awd doesn't quite match the Subaru, but it's so much better than the Nissan. I honestly cant think of anything that the Nissan is superior than the mazda.
Mazda6, no questions asked. I look forward to driving my mazda6. The Altima does it's best not to offend or excited anyone, just quietly go about its job moving people around. Mazda puts forth an effort to make it's cars exciting and fun to drive, and to me, that's what matters.

The demographics of a MAZDA6 buyer indicates that they are higher educated, have a higher gross income, consider themselves as car enthusiasts and are 5-10 years younger when compared to the average Altima/Maxima, Accord and Camry owners. I'm a proud owner of a 2018 MAZDA6 Signature after trying out the Accord and Camry. Didn't even look at the Altima. I've owned Lexus, Acura, Infiniti and also Honda's and Toyotas. The MAZDA6 is near luxury at the price of the latter 2.
Tha Altima wheels look like they should be on a hybrid. Wish the cars were comparably equipped. But good review Nathan. Im not as tall as Nathan but built like him and so knowing what he finds comfortable goes a long way. But have to go Mazda. Can't stand CVT's. Put a real auto in the Nissan and I'd probably go for it. The head and shoulder room are better in it. How about the 6 against a Camry?
2018 Signature owner coming from an Altima. Two very different cars, it's surprising to find them in the same segment. The 6 speed auto in this thing is fantastic!
i DRIVE NISSAN FOR YEARS AND NOT A PROBLEM WITH THE CVT TRANSMISSION. YES, IS NOT THE GREATEST BUT IT TAKE YOU TO WORK. MAZDA IS OK BUT NOT GREATEST LIKE NATHAN SAID AND THERE IS NOT TO MANY IN THE ROAD. GOOD REVIEW.
I've owned both Nissan and now Mazda..Nissan a is pure junk..mine went through 2 new computers in 3 years and the butterfly bolts from the intake manifold fell in the engine.totally unacceptable.years ago Nissan was good but they started cutting corners..I've not had one problem with a Mazda and they are a way much better car.
I have a 2013 Altima with 140,000 not a problems except for the ACE failed and Nissan fixed. I never said that there is not problems with the Nissan Product.
MrPicky400 : Price. Walk into any NISSAN dealer and right off the bat they chop 10-20% off MSRP and throw in below-market interest rate financing (or lease deals with absurdly optimistic residual values). NISSAN's business model is based on volume; stack 'em high and sell 'em cheap. It's the only way they can move those turds.
MrPicky400 : One other, related thing that I originally forgot to mention: They will finance anyone. Bad credit, no credit - doesn’t matter; Nissan wants to sell you a car. They rack up the higher sales figures every month, but the repo man gets his due.
I looked for 4 months trying to find a decent mazda 6 with a manual. Never found one. But i ended up trading my tacoma in on a 2020 frontier and am extremely happy ax i need a truck (originally was going keep the taco paid off and get the mazda 6) but couldn't. 1 month later i look? Every dealership i called (5 around upstate NY) each had 1 or 2 manual option mazda 6 cars. All i could of afforded very easily. I was and still am beyond ticked off.
This comparison is apple to oranges instead of apples to apples. The Mazda 6 is a better car all the way around; a real transmission over a CVT that’s not reliable or even as nice in the top models. For my money it would be the Mazda and would leave the Nissan for fleet sales and car rental companies.
Honestly I don’t understand this guy ! When the car lacks power he claims for more but then when he talks mpg he wants more . Hands down the Mazda is way better .

Time for the rabbit to be brave here: I would choose the Nissan! Who buys mid-sized sedans? A driving enthusiast? HELL NO! They turn to near-luxury, luxury or muscle cars for their Adrenelin rush. Wait! A mid-sized (though closer to full-size by today's standards) sedan with all-wheel-drive, more rear seat headroom, more trunk space, a bigger display screen AND better fuel mileage for under $34,000? Practicality and value are the ticket here! True, it has a CVT, and not that one like Toyota's with its planetary first gear, and I despise CVTs as a rule! But with everything else it offers over the Mazda, and at a lower price, this is actually a no brainer win, if you're talking about family sedans. Family = Budget! At $37,000, and with less content, Mazda is clearly hoping it's buyers are those who want "near luxury" at a more reasonable price. An admirable sentiment, but one that puts it above the Nissan's league and below an Infinity; or a niche that not a whole lot of people were even curious about; as reflected in its sales. I've owned 3 Rogues - sold my '11 to a friend who is STILL using it with NO problems whatsoever with over 100k miles, the other two (2014 & 2017) have given us absolutely ZERO problems. They're good, quality, comfortable, well-engineered cars. I LOVE Mazdas, too, and we owned two of them. One of them (an '08 Mazda5) started showing rust around the fenders at 3 years old - THREE YEARS OLD!). In those 3 years of ownership, I had taken it to the shop for multiple reasons: involving excessive carbon build up, faulty oxygen sensors, transmission issues necessitating a couple of reprogrammings and a few recalls (including one for a fire risk!). So, as much as I LOVE Mazdas, I had to turn away from them since they proved to be too troublesome, for us. THe Nissans? Completely worry-free, just regular maintenance - that's it. NISSAN did not move to the CVT because it's better than a traditional multi-speed torque converter; they did it to eek out a few tenths extra mpg to meet U.S. CAFE and other fuel efficiency standards. Not to mention the shameful way that NISSAN has treated its customers when their transmissions have failed. Why would you defend such corporate irresponsibility? Do you work for NISSAN?

You can add DCTs to that short list. Had a Focus with it. Never again. It's not for casual driving.
CVT and DCT may not all be the same but my experience with each has turned me off them altogether. I'll take a manual or a torque converter when it's my money on the line, thanks.
Mazda 6 for me. I sat in this entire class back to back at the NYIAS. The Mazda looks and feels more premium than everything else by some margin. However, the 6 falls behind in space and technology. At the end of the day, though, the Mazda's cabin is the one I want to sit in, and its exterior is the one that I want to take a second look at as I walk away.
Idk why people always saying Nissan’s and CVT’s don’t last. Any car can have a failed transmission. My mom’s 2009 Nissan Altima had 187k miles on it when she gave it to my little brother and it’s still going. And now she have another Nissan...

I have a 2014 Altima, and it is a comfy car for long drives. Adjustable enough for a me 6'1" and my wife at a foot shorter.
And boring
Eat your carrots, Nathan! 🐰

There are a lot of choices available in this class. I have no idea which model/brand I would like. My wife liked the Fusion AWD, I steered her towards the sport. All this hate for Nissan and its CVTs is ridiculous. My brother had an '07 Altima (with a CVT) that lasted him well over 200K miles. Only reason he doesn't have it anymore? It was recently totaled in a crash. Otherwise, it would still be running. However, if I were to choose a midsize sedan, it would be one of these two, so I'm very glad over the comparison. I still am undecided as to which one I'd choose, though. :-/
