  • So the 12,000 miles service has come and I needed to change the V-Belt on my XMAX 300. Since I was going to open up the transmission, I thought I'd go ahead and buy the J Costa Pro IT606 Variator for the XMAX 300.
    In this video, Dan helped me out and fitted both for me!
    There is an immediate noticeable change in the acceleration of the XMAX now. Top speed may have taken a slight dip but I'm yet to find out.
    I'll be replacing the air filters once they arrive in the post so make sure to look out for that video soon!

    Nice clear video which is good as so many guys dropping the camera etc...
    I've got an Xmax400 with a JCosta variator but thinking of changing back to standard as I find it to revvy (very nippy though) and with an Akrapovic exhaust to noisy so going back to standard. After watching this it looks simple apart from getting that front nut off but not sure if the variator shift needs lubricating? .. any thoughts

    • @tapecknows
      @tapecknows  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the comment! I use my XMAX 300 in and around town so I don’t mind it being revvy with increased acceleration. We chose not to lube the variator shaft and it’s all working fine so far

    question, is yamalube m grease applied to the collar or any portion of the “non variator” surfaces. in the shop manual it states: lube the variator bolt and mating surfaces” i see videos where this is done and others where it is not. so which is it?

    • @tapecknows

      Nice one! Here's the my thoughts on it:
      Pros:
      - Increased Acceleration
      - Slightly louder
      Cons:
      - Increased fuel consumption (probably because it makes you ride more aggressive
      - Higher RPMs on motorway speeds

      No I'm in the UK. The variation I got allows the engine to reach higher RPMs quicker, so it increases the acceleration. Which is ideal for city riding where it's stop and start. Might not be the best for longer journeys as you'll be at a higher RPM compared to a stock variator

    i put my jcosta variator on today and got back from a trial run on my xmax 2020 model. the machine work in the variator is very good, and the design makes good sense. here’s what i immediately noticed. 1. Rpm’s increased considerably off the mark, making the bike more responsive. 2. it seems quieter than the stock variator 3. smoother transition through its full range. on the highway at 75mph the rpm’s we’re about 750 to 1000 higher. this isn’t a bad thing because it feels as if the bike is more consistent in its power, wind and hills have less effect. not sure about fuel consumption but it’s most likely going to be decreased. the longevity of the weights etc. is yet to be seen. it’s a great kit, but in a few months i’ll pull it apart and see what it looks like. i bought my set up directly from jcosta fast and easy but pricey

    • @tapecknows
      @tapecknows  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1
