Hey everyone, thanks for watching! The next Challenge is up!🔴 th-cam.com/video/A0qoG6yJjgE/w-d-xo.html
Just to respond to some common comments here, leveling a Pokemon to level 100 is an incredibly slow process, let alone leveling 6 of them to level 100. It would have been impossible for me to level 6 Pokemon to level 100 and still have this video come out on time. It would be an unhealthy amount of work for almost no payoff, seeing as I'd probably still just lose.
Some people said to hack the game to give me unlimited rare candy. Well one, I don't cheat. Two, I literally don't even know how to do that, and three, it's not exactly a challenge if I just give myself stuff until I win.
I feel like it's not cheating if it's the final grind to Lv100. It's just to save you time, and to give us watchers a fun battle in the end. Hell, if you said it didn't count as winning but still showed us the battle I'd be very happy. Loved this video otherwise!
Just use the speed up button you chad! Who are you, Justin Trudeau?!
For your next challenge try sun or moon with one rowlet no evolving
Another TH-camr beat Red with three level 90 Unowns (I can understand that it would still take an incredibly long time though).
So, because I am a cheater and don't understand the concept of a challenge I did just that (although I did it as soon as I saw the video not before the comment but hey it works.). I cheated in Unowns with the exact same Hidden Power types (Psychic, Flying, Ice, Electric, Ghost and Fighting.) at level 100. Unfortunately I couldn't get their stats to be the exact same as yours would've been but honestly mine might've been weaker.
All I can say about Red is, it IS possible, but you need some insane luck, I have been trying that fight for a long time and just got my successful attempt.
It was painful.
Here's a rundown on how the fight went.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I lead off with my Psychic Unown against Pikachu. Pikachu Thunderbolts for about a quarter of my health while Hidden Power does about half of its.
Pikachu then lands a Thunder doing just under half my total health leaving my on a quarter as well as paralysing me (which never came up thank god.) then another Hidden Power ends Pikachu.
Espeon's up next and wastes a turn setting up a reflect... I have no idea why it did that. Psych is still out though so Hidden Power does negligible damage.
Espeon uses Psychic doing under a quarter of my health as I land a critical Hidden Power leaving Espeon on just over half. Espeon and Psych trade Swifts and Hidden Powers not hurting either of us much but Espeon defeats Psych with one more swift at this point Espeon is just under half.
Ghost is out next and Espeon goes for Mud-Slap, weak but lowers my accuracy. One Hidden Power from Ghost ends it.
Snorlax is out next and I can't damage it with Ghost so I switch into Fighting as it uses Amnesia? Again another move that I don't get.
Fight's hidden power does about a quarter while Body Slam does the same. We do that again leaving Snorlax on almost red health. This was one of the only times I was glad Gen 2 decides stats by the type of move because if fighting had been using Special Attack that Amnesia would've probably ended the run.
I was scared he was going to Full Restore but he didn't and gets taken out in one more Hidden Power. He must've had just enough health that the AI decided not to full Restore.
Charizard's up next and instantly beats Fight with a Flamethrower. This is the one I was scared about since he hits for half of our health and we only have one Unown who is super effective against it, it also out speeds.)
I send out Elec while he Flame Throwers for a half. However I get a lucky crit leaving it on red health while I'm just on half. He full restores while another Hidden Power leaves him on under half. At this point I was worried another Flame Thrower would Kill but it leaves me on a tiny sliver of health as Hidden Power ends it.
Blastoise next who leads off with a Rain Dance giving me a free turn to Hidden Power doing under half. Elec gets taken out by a surf the next turn though.
I want to save Ice and Fly for Venusaur so I send out Ghost again. He Blizzards for under a quarter. Hidden power does about the same.
He then uses Whirlpool? (Third times the charm?) as another hidden power leaves him on under a quarter while I'm on a half.
I thought I was safe to take out Blastoise but a Crit Surf in the rain ends Ghost, Uh-Oh.
I send Fly out a Surf does half my health but a crit Hidden Power ends Blastoise.
Venusaur is out last and sets up a Sunny Day while Hidden Power does under half. (I would say Sunny Day is a wasted move but Solar Beam is an issue.)
Venusaur then uses Solar Beam leaving me on critically low health but alive none the less as Hidden Power leaves him in red. He full restores while Hidden Power does the same as before as I go out to a Giga Drain.
Ice out last (it was all up to luck at this point.) He decides to go for Solar Beam leaving me on about half, I hidden power Ice leaving him on Yellow unlike the red from before.
I was really worried about Synthesis but he decides to go for Giga Drain leaving me on a quarter. One last Hidden Power takes the match.
Oh boy, okay so the fight is possible but here's all the things that have to go right- Red wasting moves, good crit luck and being lucky with where all the Pokemons Hp lands so he doesn't full restore all the time. I only saw two of them in this entire fight. Not to mention that with Venusaur if he hadn't used Giga Drain which just about put him above Full Restore/ Synthesis level, I would've lost.
This took me a lot of attempts where Charizard and Blastoise usually end the run. But I can say that at level 100 it is possible. Even if my stats aren't exactly the same, with similar luck it *should* be possible. I however DO NOT recommend it.
If anyone also wants to attempt this I suggest using the speed up function since otherwise it will take a long, long time.
I'd like to see a timer on the screen...just curious how long this stuff really takes
You're so right like,
*Loses a fight against Morty* awww man time for grinding, here's the next attempt! *in game clock is seven hours later*

"if it IS tied to letters, though..."
It is. Letter and Hidden Power are both determined by IVs. Certain letters are incapable of being certain types.
Which is the reason getting a certain typ is utterly hell.
@JayLeeBeanz Just gen 2. The letter of unown, its hidden power and if it is shiny are all determined by its DVs (basically the early version of IVs before it was reworked in later gens). Only unowns I and V could be shiny in gen 2.
.
The bit that letters available are also unlocked by completing the further puzzles is hard too
So it’s not really tied to letters, it’s just that both letter and type are tied to IVs.

Status afflicting moves in gen 2 used by coms are always 50% accurate regardless of the moves actual accuracy
Thanks
I thought it was the 1/256 glitch? Because a 100% accuracy move has 255 accuracy and it rolls between 1 and 255, but because 255 isn't larger than 255 it misses? Idk
@Cameron Lattz Ah. I thought it was gen 2 and gen 1
Yogurt of the Multiverse Nah, it's only in gen 1. They had to redo the combat system from scratch in gen 2 because it was almost completely glitched in so many ways in gen 1. This results in gen 1 and 2 having totally different glitches.
I believe it's 25%
In earlier gens, status moves against the player have their accuracy multiplied by 75%.
Ice Gemini wait really? Where’d ya learn that?
@@AverageEggmonEnthusiast I forgot exactly where but if you do play rby and other early gens you'll notice that sometimes status moves like growl display "but it failed" instead of the usual miss text, and it's not the 1/256 glitch because it's not just rby

thunder wave missed because if I remember correctly the AI and ONLY the AI has 50% accuracy on all moves that inflict status conditions. this is only in gen 2 tho, and I have no clue why it's like that in the first place.
It always felt like the AI has 100% accuracy on every annoying thing though. :D
I guess they tried to minimize the frustration factor on having to waste items every fight or run back to heal
Maybe Gamefreak thought paralysis and confusion was bullshit - which it is - and so they wanted to make it less frustrating.
That's correct, but is 75%.

YOU GENIUS
In Gen 2, the IVs determine the Unown letter and Hidden Power type. From the Unown letters available before you get surf, *only G, H, J, and K* can have fire-type Hidden Power (with H and K having a higher chance than G and J). This also means that StrangeTasche couldn't have been fire-type.
Using this logic, we can also deduce that LordHepFur and Freshfeed are ice, and BlackmMatt is psychic (assuming I got the letters right).
Honestly I like the way hidden power works in legends arceus I'm sad it can't be selected in battle in Gen IX
When I clicked on this, I was hoping you’d use the unown to spell “TWITER”

Just FYI Metalizer's hidden power coudn't be fighting type since it would be normal effectiv against pidgey. (+ against normal, - against flying = normal damage.)
Actually, flying seems to be 4x resistant to fighting because fighting is resisted by flying/normal mons, only one pure flying type in all the games but 0 reason to, no added bonuses and your no longer immune to ghost moves
@@alexanderhacker8329 its neutral
@@itsluca914 unless they changed it in the last generation, no, I play competitively and have pointed this very thing out in the past, that normal is weak to fighting yet normal flying mons are resistant to fighting type moves
@@itsluca914 idk, just something feels off, guess it could work like that, I will admit I specialize in electric mons and not fighting or flying so
Alexander Hacker one type can’t 4x resist anything, flying/normal types do not resist fighting, its neutral
I said it once and i´ll say it again: These Challenges are awesome!
Maybe do one like Pokemon Platinum while only using Pokemon only knowing field moves, who can learn at least 5 of said field moves. So the HM-Slave-Challenge.
Interesting challenge idea, but easily doable with a team of 6 I think, since Surf, Strength, Fly, and Waterfall are all good, great, or alright.
@Kenneth Ligutom Eh, between Normal, Fighting, Flying, and Water, there's not a ton in main game Sinnoh aside from like Gyrados that would prove to be a huge issue except Fantina, the Ghost Gym Leader. If she were even possible, as in Platinum by that point you only have Cut and Rock Smash as actual HM moves. Both ineffective and makes it impossible. And even if it were possible, it would probably bore MDB for the same reason as Unown. "I can't change up my strategy, I can only keep using a move and hope it works." So it would be an easier Unown challenge in the end, if possible. And impossible otherwise.

@@aggskittlord note that I said "field moves". That includes moves like Dig, Sweet Scent, Soft Boiled and so forth. So exept for Fantinas Driftblim he can use that.

*POKEMON CHALLENGE SUGGESTION*
Hello!
I really love your videos, keep it up!
So my idea is...
*"Beating Pokemon Platinum with ONLY my randomized starter"*
Alright, basically you randomize your starter in the Pokemon Randomizer and put "Three Stage Evolution" on! Have fun :)
Suggestion: one of later gens, team of pikachu clones. Plusle, togedemaru, dedenne etc.
Considering togedomaru is gen 7 would be too easy, even with exp share off
Using the Universal Pokemon Randomizer, you can only make games up until Black 2 and White 2. Meaning X, Y, Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, Ultra Moon, Let's Go and ORAS are unavailable to be randomized

It can only learn
Thunder wave

Oh my gosh this will be absolutely miserable
That actually sounds pretty interesting. I've tried Plat with a Bronzor (no bag in battle) recently and the run ended for me when I got to the third Cyrus fight (Houndoom + Honchkrow were just too much for a Bronzor). Having said that, I might try getting through white 2 with just a Bronzor someday. As for my guess on Tynamo only white 2, I will hypothesize than Clay might end the run due to his Pokemon being unable to be hit for any sort of significant damage by Tynamo (especially Excadrill). If overleveling were to save you there, I still think Iris might not be possible, seeing as she doesn't only have huge tanks, but also due to that she has a Mold Breaker Haxorus with Earthquake (which can hit Tynamo for weakness) which also has a Focus Sash. If you decide to try it out though, I'd like to know how that goes.
@@RemixerDarken Actually I remember helping someone with THEIR run, and they went Bronzong and they were able to gimmick out Cyrus with Trick Room. Maybe that might help?

You can catch a Mareep pretty early on. I can’t remember if it’s before or after falkner in gen 2, but in gen 4 you can get one with a secret password almost immidietly.
@@AverageEggmonEnthusiast Secret password...? Idk about that, but there is that patch of grass past the Yellow Apricorn lol. As for Gen 2, you have to beat Falkner first before getting Mareep, and Crystal didn't have Mareep
Lucas Watkins ok cool! And this is the secret password. www.pokewiki.de/Spezial:Geheimcode-Generator?uselang=en
It was a Japanese exclusive club thing but the code was all in the international versions so if you put in your trainer ID, the game will calculate your passwords to get eggs and box wallpapers. Works in sinnoh too.
Ah, I see you're a man of culture as well! Grinding up six Unown in one go is certainly not a fun process! 😂
hidden power's type is determined by IVs in gen 2, not by letter (although that's also determined by IV in a different calculation)
So, what you're telling me is, in a really roundabout way, it is determined by shape?
Also thanks to that the only Unnown that can be shiny in Gen 2 are the letters I and V
@@darkessinzero I and v, i see what they did there 🤔
Not only the type, the attack power of it, too. I expected some more theory crafting from MDB to get unown with not only a good type but also good HP attack.

I always wondered as a kid if you could beat pokémon red/blue without buying stuff (exept the drink for the guard)...
Maybe you could do a run without buying stuff in the game with the least items laying around or even without items in general...
That would be too easy, I NEVER buy items when I play Pokémon
This is very easy
Though if this includes no buying poke balls, it might be somewhat difficult
@@DlyanMatthews You can find enough Balls on the overworld and get enough gifts to get Pokemon.
Ben D that would be easy you don’t need items to win you would still have the Pokémon center and just could keep either healing up or white out to get your Pokémon to lvl 100
Not sure why but I suddenly had great interest in unown which led me to this video.
Fun Fact: There are only 5 Dark-type moves in all of Generation 2 with 3 of them being base 60-80 and they are all physical moves. Thus, dark types are almost useless in this generation. I remember spending hours to get an Umbreon, maybe my favorite Pokemon especially the shiny version, then being horribly disappointed with it's moves and having to box it for the late game cause I didn't want to grind.
They are all special moves as there was no physical/special in Gen 2
Eevee and its evolutions SUCK. Quit being the same as everyone else, use ORIGINAL Pokemon like Zigzagoon bitch
In gens 1-3, dragon and the eeveelution types are special and the rest are physical.
Whenever an AI uses a status move in Gen 2 it has a 25% chance of missing

You know, I realized it when you said "sorry if I'm not doing it blow by blow." I don't know if you know that you do it, but when you commentate about fights, you commentate it like wrestling commentating, which makes so much sense for you!
Also, how about a 1st stage evolution pokemon of YOUR choice for a challenge, and just that pokemon?
13:41 “I caught it, and I look forward to never using it” ...If that ain’t the biggest mood.
3:23 One in three chance of it being Dark? Yeah, no, due to a rounding calculation and the fact that Dark is last on the list, a good chunk of its percentage is ignored by the formula meaning Dark actually has a drastically lower chance of being chosen by Hidden Power than any other type. Gen 2 has a baked in chance in the code that stat effect moves like that can miss. It's just a quirk of the game. I think I remember FSG or Mystic Umbreon saying something about that.
In gen 2 all of the NPC's status moves had a percent chance to miss for some reason. It isn't in the other games, so I'm not sure why.
The thing about Unown is that in Gen II, its form and Hidden Power are determined by the same thing, so each form has only a certain amount of Hidden Power types that it could get.
"i dont know why thunder wave was missing because it has 100% accuracy" i think the glitch from gen 1 carried over, where even if moves were 100% accurate they still had a... i believe its a 1 in 252 chance of missing.
*256. Know your powers of 2
In gen 2 the enemy Pokémon have reduced accuracy for status moves.
It wasn't really a glitch tho, it was implemented intentionally if I remember right, but they realized it wasn't that great of a mechanic

People are weird first off. I don't see how a video like this has dislikes. The only thing I could try to see is the pronunciations of pkmn. This is a great concept that not only takes a LOT of time but also has to be narrated. That alone can be easily exhausting. I'm glad I am subbed. This man goes out his way to listen to people and make a challenge work for the people. If you disliked, I'm legitimately curious why.
I didn't dislike but a reason might be that someone skipped the rules and then got angry when he used items outside of battle. But hey that's just a theory.

In Generations 1 and 2, there was almost no such thing as 100% accuracy.
When using a move, the RNG gets a number, from 0 to 255. But, in binary, so 1 or 0, 8 times. You end up with 0, you miss. Turned out to be about 99.6 percent accuracy.
You just saw someone lose 8 coin flips, simultaneously.
The exception to this is Swift, which is hard-coded to bypass the RNG.
Pretty sure pikasprey and gamechamp highlight this in their vid too
I know this challenge is 2 years old at least, but I wanted to say this is a really fun one. Due to the extreme limitations I understand that it might have been stressful, but it was super entertaining

Irma: the Unown that hits like a hurricane. Twins Garrett&Gordon two inseperable brothers that share the same form but Garrett is brave and gordon is kind of shy.
Eric: reckless and rude, always going for the K.O, but gets messed up most of the time due to always relying on brute force.
and finally we got Randall and well....he is kind of a goof. also a bit geeky on stats and planning, looks up to Noah for being such a great leader.
Actually thunder wave missed because gamefreak wanted to make sure that every battle went smoothly not annoyingly. So gamefreak nerfed the CPUs by lowering their accuracy
The Unown in gen 2 are based off DVs, and you can only find certain forms of them before clearing the puzzles. That must mean that the ones you want can’t be found until you have surf/strength.
A small channel named "Enter the Unown" did this challenge a while ago man! But still gonna be interesting.
Well he did not do the exact challenge though since he did it in crystal which has some key differences from gold and silver
@@radify9248 Subtle differences. Main story, gym leaders and elite 4 are still the same.
Also, everyone keeps asking him for this challenge, so you can't blame mdb for doing it
@@NotTheCorner It's a vexing challenge nonetheless
It doesn't matter Enter the unknown doesn't own the content. Feels like you're one of those people in smaller channels comments section saying "ugh you stole this from Pikasprey"
Challenge idea for you:
Do a play through of any game, with any single pokemon of your choice, but only teach it HM moves (might have to modify the moves it starts with)
"It's a Kabuto by the way."
Are you implying you took the *dome fossil?* Lord Helix is displeased.
You could always do a Nuzlocke challenge. I haven't checked to see if you already have... but even so they're fresh each time by nature.
Okay, so for an explanation of not being able to find certain hidden powers, both hidden power and the unown letters are determined by IVs, a preset value from 1-31 in each stat that affects how good it is, since both are tied to IVS, each hidden power can only be known by so many letters. Also, funnily enough, since shiny Pokémon were also determined by IVS in gen 2, the only 2 Unown that could be shiny were I and V
Mah-Dry-Bread my dude, what fossil did you get?
I have an idea, try beating Pokemon leaf green with only a tangela
It's happening next Saturday.
Hey. Beat a game of Pokémon without ever dealing a single point of damage yourself to another Pokémon.
How can that work?
@@GGorsty struggle from the opponents.
@@GGorsty confusion, burn, poison... struggle
I have been waiting for these bad bois to show up ! Love it
the number of times he’s found shinies in these runs rlly speaks to how much he grinds
2019: can you beat pokemon emerald with *ONLY* one pokemon?
2020: can you beat any game by doing nothing?
"Luigi wins by doing absolutely nothing" taken to a new extreme
@@codacheetah lol I had the same idea.
Is there any way to request runs? Would you ever consider doing a Tynamo only run of Black / White?
The two main ways that I know of to request runs is to either comment them, or tweet the challenge at him.
Autolose. You cannot defeat Shauntal's Golurk.
@@N12015 Ah right...wouldn't struggle still work though? Isn't that a typeless move?
Haven't started yet: what fossil did you pick?
Old Amber.
The rettel fossil
Unknown in the game are just like they are in the third Pokemon movie, weak on their own but dangerous in a group. So when you said a team of Unknown instead of just one, I felt you had this challenge in the bag.
MDB: Hes either fire or fighting, cant tell which
Later: hes *FLYING*
Me: excuse me *what*
10:48 "sent out raticate" and a golbat appears
LET ME JUST GO GET MY ICED COFFEE AND POPCORN FOR THIS
have a good day all who read this. :)
omg I love you, you have a good day too!
the guy l :)
You too

Yami Damn got uno reversed on, I don't have a defense for that .
I know some older games have a built in 25% miss rate from opposing status moves. So a 100% accurate thunder wave is actually 75%. I know that’s for sure the case for yellow but I’m not sure with the others.
Really enjoyed all these challenge videos. Your persevereance is insane!
I'd echo what you've said about this type of challenge where you only have one move/struggle though, it's definitely a more interesting video when you're able to be creative with movesets/held items!
Here’s a couple of ideas for challenges:
Pokemon Ruby or Emerald using only a Nuzleaf
Pokemon Platinum using only a snover
too easy
MasterOf Chaos72 *Seedot will be a much better show if you asked me.
Carlos Marte It’s true that seedot is weaker but Nuzleaf has more weaknesses so I think it could potentially be harder
@@masterofchaos7282 move pool
Hey mdb, try an assist only run, assist is a move that picks from one of the moves of your party members, it's like metronome but you can actually strategize with moves learned by other pokemon by level up since we know you JUST LOVED the metronome run
Hi, I'm commenting because I hear it's good for the TH-cam algorithm!!!
Watched the video last night. Woke up this morning and the first thing I thought was : "Wait, what fossil did he take!?!"

So, in the GEN 1 AND 2 a move had a value between 1 and 255, to check if the move missed the game rolls a number between 1 and 255. If the number of the value is tinier or the same as the number rolled then the move will miss.
In those games 100% accuracy moves had the value of 255, that means if the game happens to roll 255 the move will miss even if it has 100% accuracy
That means that you have a 1 in 255 chance (~0,004%) of missing a 100% move
