I often think the likes of Fred Dibnah will never pass this way again, but i
I am often surprised how they are replaced by new characters and people like Fred will live on in my mind but only youtube will remember Fred to coming generation who will never remember him like we do.

The documentaries made him seem like a deadbeat dad and husband who neglected his family and chose his dumb obsolete (even in his time) steam engines over spending time with his wife and children.

This great man Fred Dibnah is a hero of mine.
I still watch his video's to this very day. He should have been made a sir. Fred was fearless to climb all them Steeples/Towers. And a very down to earth man for as famous as he was. He will always be respected and remembered in Liverpool where i am from. RIP FRED DIBNAH 🙏 AND THANKYOU FOR ALL THE GREAT MEMORIES,LEGEND.

Totally agree Jim, I'm normally commenting on Rolling Stones music as I am a huge fan, I shed a tear when I heard Fred had died back in 2004 was glued to the Tele when he was on, great that he will always have thousands of people following his work even now. A truly "Character of characters" was Fred Dibnah RIP

Was at Fred’s house the other weekend, it was nice to be in the same space where the great man lived worked and played. Though all the machines and most have gone. There’s still reminders of the great man dotted around.. R.I.P Fred. Respect to the great man.

I love the way the B in 'Remember' on his headstone is like a chimney with smoke. Sad it's so uncared for now though and there is no sentiment on the stone from his family. Maybe that was how he wanted it, who knows. The man was a legend and we will never see the likes of him every again.

I met Fred when he came to Glasgow. I was a manager with Glasgow International Airport. His Talk was Sponsered by BAA. I met him after his talk and we had a pint in the nearby pub in Renfrew St. What a lovely interesting man. Ne Obliviscaris Fred.

He's ont telly as I write this. Proper bloke. His appreciation of our industrial age and the designers of the machinery created back then, is wonderful. He was the last of his kind. And he was totally fearless up a chimney! No equal. Cheers Fred, you did us proud. x

How sad….. I was expecting a bigger memorial, one that he deserved, at least as an example of his passion and skills for steam and Victorian engineering, even a small chimney model, or a little traction engine… poor Fred… all that graft…

Whenever you drive up north and you see places with old mills that have been turned into big shops. You also see the very tall chimney's and whenever I spot one I always think of Fred climbing up the side.

Did you also notice that the word Remember and the design around it looked like a traction engine, even with the smoke coming out of the funnel in the form of the letter b.

I remember the doco, Fred said that aged 15? he decided to climb a very tall chimney 'to check out the view'. He also said he never suffered from the fear of heights. (Unlike me, whose knees start knocking on the second step of the ladder.)
    RIP Fred.
