Yo LegenVD, I've only started getting into MTG a few weeks ago. I was looking for some videos that teach me some MTG and I also wanted to get an an overview of the decks that are currently played and then I eventually found you. Meanwhile I have seen every video you have put out in the last 3 weeks. I really like your way of talking, explaining and editing in some cards you are talking about while playing. The insight in how you take decisions and what you consider your opponent to do is fascinating and very valuable to new players. Keep up the amazing work and have a nice day!
Excellent deck, LVD. I went the evil route and built a Dimir Control version for this Demon. Gameplan is pretty simple: remove all creatures (and maybe other permanents with the 5 mana Cover Up), shred their hand to pieces with Duress and Ruthless Negociation, cast Demon with Cavern of Souls, finish the job with Jace or Restless Reef. Surprisingly effective for BO1 lol.
@@Poweranimal84 You could run the 2 mana sorcery that tutors for it. I have it in my deck as well but it looked unnecessary so far, so I will probably replace it with something else.
the most incredible final game, wow. constantly teetering on the edge of losing to combat and slowly grinding out a more traditional mill victory. absolutely insane. this is the perfect reason why you never give up early
excruciator is gas when paired with coiling rebirth!!! throw it in mono black control and a couple collector vault and threefold thunderhulk and youre cooking 😅
If a suggestion, maybe running Diabolic Intent could help with finding the Scavenger's Talent. It still sacrifices a creature, which is useful, but not being instant might hurt the viability of the cars a bit.
Mono Black Magic (Channel) made a nice version with Altar of Dementia. It can sacrifice a creature and mill according to the creatures Power which is 6 anyway :) well historic format ofc.
I don't usually cheer for Mill but this and Mindskinner have been two that are just against-the-odds enough I cheer when somebody gets them to go off. Instead of an agonizing multiple turn mill it's like Mill OTK but there's chances to stop it along the way and it doesn't cast my own permeants back at me like Breach.
Doomsday is probably my best deck at the moment. I really need a Cavern of Souls and some Treasure Maps after seeing this video. I'm currently leaning into Scavenger's revival ability, but the finality counter makes it so awkward for all the "when this creature dies" effects. Fun for Sheoldred since it's easy to mill the opponent enough to flip it, but I like your version better.
ehi LVD, best MTG Arena content creator! Since you're so good in creating a mill deck, why don't you please give us a Bruvac brawl deck? Thank you in advance
We weren't guaranteed to draw into a land to be able to make that play. We may end up needing the life if we decide to cast the demon anyway, so then it's greedy not to sacrifice the food while we have the chance. So in hindsight it may look awkward, but in the moment I don't think it's necessarily a wrong play.
I would like the videos more if they were at higher rank, it makes me feel like I'm watching someone better than I am & that I can learn. I can get to plat easily.
Rank is mostly irrelevant once you get to Platinum. It’s just a matter of spending more time grinding the ladder. I prefer spending that time building new decks.
@@LegenVD love the videos and understand that reasoning, but. do you think this deck can make it to mythic in a reasonable time period? Like has your winrate been high enough or is it more just for fun?
The shell has so many angles, you could splash white to have that 4 mana reanimator or make it Rakdos and reanimates the demon while getting value from the likes of Disturbing Mirth etc
In game 3, a treasure token is sacrificed to help cast the excrusiator. Can the excrusiator’s on cast trigger and the talent’s mill trigger be ordered so that excrusiator resolves first and reduces the opponent’s deck before the mill trigger? In this case, sacrificing 3 treasures as part of casting excrusiator effectively wins the game?
no, because excruciator's trigger isn't on cast, it's an enters-the-battlefield trigger (that only triggers if it was cast). the talent's mill trigger will go on the stack after excruciator (the creature itself), then excruciator will resolve, enter, and trigger to exile the libraries
Sacrificing the Treasures in order to cast the Excruciator means they're already gone before the Demon is even on the battlefield. This means the Talents will trigger from the sac'd tokens first and resolve before the Demon has a chance to do anything.
@@geronimo8159 Unlike the other popular Talents it's more subtly powerful. Even when not trying to use it for a combo kill it's a very strong self-mill engine for sacrifice decks. The food tokens are also versatile tools for that same type of deck.
in match 3 you sacced the 2 food tokens which proved unnecessary and you easilly could have kept them for if they became necesary. Additionally the next turn you milled 4 by saccing 2 treasures but couldnt finish and didnt win until the next turn. if even one food token was there you could have used the mana to sac the food and won right away. Didn't matter in the end but that was painful to watch.

Yup, been running a more counter heavy version, but it works. I like this version he posted though… dunno if I wanna craft a 4th demon though.

Still in the decktech, but can't help but feel we are missing Pitiless Carnage.
Played it in the last version of Monoblack mill, going for a slightly different approach now.
I wish they printed a card called Ham Sandwich so I can beat monored with. Like a vanilla 4 mana 5/5 or something...
...Vanilla Ham Sandwich
so the mistakes of sacrificing the last food token at match 3 20:50 left unpunished, small little details but matters a lot.
