"Fraudulent league"? Oregon State and Washington State have done nothing wrong in this whole situation. If they have played by the rules, and the rules give the Pac-12 rump a 2 year grace period, I say the two schools deserve any strange perks they get. More power to them!

Depressed’s dreaming of stringent enforcement of NCAA membership rules is humorous when considering how many schools could have been dropped from FBS to FCS over the last 25 years. A lot of schools failed the eye test, but somewhere up the line, even the NCAA knew they’d lose a lawsuit based on some rule the Power conferences forced on everyone.
Since the NCAA has been rendered even more feckless now, expect a wide latitude with Oregon State and Washington State.

The rules are the rules and if OSU and WSU can get the windfall of money they need to take it. They know if the join the MWC their revenue is going to drop by alot, so why not to keep the PAC12 around for two years and collect 70 million per schools for next two years because of the PAC 12 P5 payout. Now that they are the only 2 schools, they can fire the commissioner.

They are choosing to travel across country most of their seasons for all sports. The other leagues aren't powerless in all of this, the BIG12 or BIG10 could just invite OSU and WSU and another at large playoff bid just poofs into existence. Don't pretend like the other leagues are powerless in all of this.

As an Oregon State fan, the school needs the money badly. They just demolished half of Reser Stadium for huge renovations and a new athletic facility that cost $160 million. They owe millions in bonds and that has to be paid back, and the $6 million MWC salary isn’t gonna cut it. OSU and WSU didn’t do anything to deserve being cut off from the rest of the PAC other than be in less desirable markets. And to top it off the beavers are on the rise; winning 10 games last season for the first time in YEARS, winning a bowl game, and finishing top 20 is a serious step up from where they were even 3 years ago. Coach Smith has the team in a good place and they can’t afford losing him and his coaching staff, with the players soon to follow.

I believe the reason for the 2 year grace period is to get a conference a chance to rebuild itself. If I was OSU and WSU I would enter into to a schedule alliance with the MWC and keep that PAC12 around for those 2 years in order to collect that P5 money. The only question is what reason would MWC do a schedule alliance with them, so OSU and WSU might have to promise to join MWC in two years time.

Don't be surprised if there is no clause that keeps OSU and WSU from getting that revenue. These contracts were put in place at a time when nobody thought that a Power 5 conference would go defunct. Stranger things have happened - the family that used to own the now defunct Spirts of St. Louis basketball team is STILL getting revenue from the four remaining ABA teams that were absorbed into the the NBA (Spurs, Nuggets, Nets and Pacers). College football is all about money and OSU and WSU should use their leverage to get every dollar they are contractually entitled too. No point in talking about "fair" or "playing nice" now.

I don't know any bottom feeders who went 10-3 last year with a win over Oregon as OSU did. I don't know many bottom feeders that get ranked 18th in the nation in the preseason polls. And WSU has had their share of outstanding years also. How about 3 national championships for Oregon State Baseball in the 2000's. How about a trip to the elite 8 a few years ago and I haven't even mentioned their womens basketball which has been a national power in recent years. But yeah they are bottom feeders. And finally to those who say they arent any better than the MW teams, take a look at their records vs. Mt West teams in recent years. @@devanwilliams1127 I was wrong about osu. They were negligibly worse than wsu in the pac 12 era. It is a bigger school in a way better location than wsu tho (there's potential). Having a few good years at the right time does not make wsu a succsesful football program. Leach was practically ran out of town, and they immediately fell back to the basement as soon as he left. Even at their peak they haven't been good enough to reach a conference championship. Sure, there are a lot of habitually mediocre teams that got out (Cal, and Asu for example). There are even fellow bottom feeders who escaped (Az). At the end of the day it doesn't change the fact that wsu will only ever be a bottom feeder in a p5. They don't have the money, location, prestige, history, facilities, alumni connections, etcetc to do more. They belong in a mountain west type conference. I will admit that they have done a very good job with what they have had to work with, especially when Leach was there. However, imagine how much better they could have done if they didn't get cannibalised in the pac 12 every year.

    • @devanwilliams1127

@@paperdo OSU a way bigger school? Both schools are practically the same bro, thats why we are in this mess. It is a better location compared to Pullman but thats not a hard feat.
Leach ran out of town? Alright man, you don’t know what the hell you were talking about. Leach left for more money and a school closer to Florida where he lived fulltime. None of that matters anymore obviously. And WSU has had 3 seasons since leach left. They went 1-3 in a Covid shortened year and have been bowl teams the last two seasons following and look like a bowl team again this year.
Do you know how bad Colorado, Cal, and Arizona have been the last decade? You seem to have a problem with WSU which is weird.
WSU fans are well aware it’s a smaller school that doesn’t get the same funding as the bigger P5 schools but we still spend more then the G5. MWC will be fine competition wise but will have downstream affects on funding.

    • @paperdo
      @paperdo 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@devanwilliams1127 I didn't say way bigger, I said way better location. Plus, 10,000 more students is quite a bit. Additionally, I did acknowledge that they are similar.
As far as Leach goes, I am surrounded by cougar fans. Not a single one of them wanted Leach anymore. They were all stoked when he left. He was unwelcome. He couldn't win an apple cup. The other reasons that you listed are completely valid. But decisions are usually made due to a multitude of reasons.
Making it to a bowl game is not impressive. Last year is a great example. They made it to a bowl with a losing conference record last year, and they barely had a winning record the year before. Not to mention, they lost both games against teams from conferences that they are supposedly too good for.
No, I don't have a problem with wazzu as a school or team. I would be lying if I didn't acknowledge that a lot of their fans annoy the snot out of me tho. I'm just done pretending with their fans at this point. I wish the pac 12 had survived. Fact is it didn't. Cal has always been the face of mediocrity but not typically downright bad. And it is a california school. This matters when california is a national recruiting hotspot. Colorado has at least gone to a conference championship, has a solid history, and is a media darling right now, unlike like wazzu. I fully acknowledge that Arizona is a bottom feeder in football. They have had some pretty good basketball teams tho.
Wsu has more delusional and insufferable fans than any other school in the pac 12. Sure oregon has fans that are more insufferable, but Wsu gets the combo. I actually do sincerely hope the program lands on its feet. They have a tradition of making something out of nothing. I can acknowledge that. They had really impressive programs under Leach and Price. I'm just not going to pretend that they are too good for the mountain west unlike a lot of the Wsu fans that I know. We can definitely agree that they are too good for any of the G5 conferences. They are a state university after all. There are a lot of schools who are getting absolutely effed financially by this conference realignment. The whole situation is downright wrong. Unfortunately Wsu gets hurt too.

Get all that money coming to them and enable themselves to keep spending up so that they don’t UConnize before the ACC comes a calling in 5-10 years once they’ve lost enough teams to need them.
