- A Steelhead Quest: Portrait of a Rivered Life
Terry Myers, a steelhead advocate and long-time angler, spent 2015 trying to catch a wild steelhead on a different river each month of the year. After successfully hooking a wild steelhead in all but two of the months, she set her sight on finding the last two fish to complete her quest.
The film explores the experience of an unassuming but determined woman on this two-year quest. Watch as she tries to unlock the mysteries of catching wild steelhead through the changing seasons. With her husband Jerry in tow, we see the challenges they face with depleting runs, while still enjoying every aspect of being on the river together-rain or shine, fish or no fish.

I truly loved this film and really enjoyed "meeting" this couple. I have started this quest myself a few times but always let myself get dissuaded. Seeing their enjoy in not just the accomplishment but in the pursuit is truly inspirational.

REI doesn't carry fishing equipment, but they carry thermals, sweatshirts, jackets, headlamps everything you need when you're trying to isolate yourself from the weather in Steelhead fishing season. Bought a second pair of their thermals on my Oregon trip. Great for cold temps.
They are also doing multiple day floats, so camping etc.

Amazing.. 3rd time watching.. Even though i do not have fishing like this.. it inspires you.. inspires you to work hard, relax but do things that you for sure are passionate about. Both of them are passionate about nature, fishing.. such gentle souls.. wish there were more of these "Quests" to watch

I'm so glad REI presented this amazing adventure story with its incredible cast of real-life characters. Too often REI only presents young people discovering their abilities outdoors and testing their endurance levels. Those are great stories, to be sure. But the wisdom, contribution and legacy of the older generation to outdoor adventures have made an indelible impression for all to enjoy. I hope REI will feature more stories like this one that celebrate this group of older, often overlooked explorers. It serves as proof that the indomitable spirit of adventure lives in all ages. No particular generation has a monopoly on it.

Here in Washington state wildlife management is funded by a tax on fishing and hunting equipment sold known as the “critter tax” and fishing and hunting licenses. Maybe REI is thinking of putting a percentage of their profits into helping declining stocks of Salmon and Steelhead. Then I’d say Bravo. This is just a show to tug the heart strings. Well done?

Terry is so rad. Genuinely such a nice person. Any man would be lucky to score such an amazing spirited woman. Although he comes across as a bit of a prick, her old man Jerry's got to be a decent shit for not getting pissed about having a Wife who gets all the attention & can cast circles around him and 99% of the other cats on the river.

Yeah, they did, for about 7 weeks, 4 days, and 13 hours...in Denver anyway.
Oh, they will. They want to be the next Cabelas so bad. They're putting up videos like this to establish a macho Trump voting identity and hide the fact that they're from liberal Seattle.
REI has always been a very liberal (Seattle) company, selling gear for "non-consumptive" sports - hiking, climbing, camping, backpacking, kayaking, etc. You know, the tread lightly, "don't touch" type of activities. No hunting or fishing gear. God forbid someone catch a fish and actually keep it and cook it on the campfire.
Actually they did. When I was a kid in the flagship store in Seattle, up on Capital Hill. I'm talking 50 years ago. They didn't have much. Just basic backpacker rods, reels, a few spinners and flies. When they eliminated it I asked why and was told they wanted to focus on less sports.
yeah! I visited REI store at Bend, OR. I was in total disappointment!
As an 18 year old getting ready to get out and really experience life, this video gives me a lot of hope. Between this couple's love for one another to their never ending seek for adventure. Lovely video. They have worked hard and built an amazing life. Thanks for the gorgeous video with life lessons, and amazing movie making behind it. That's not even mentioning the fish they caught!!

Everyone said it over and over but my position in the department of redundancy department requires that I repeat it. Well not all, but it was a beautiful wonderful story of an obvious loving couple who is living the live that all of us want.

I started playing this thinking I was watching a fly fishing video and soon discovered it was far more than that. We live in New Zealand and have no shortage of fish all year round but so many people don’t realise what we have (might be a good thing) My wife is the adventure taker (currently in South Sudan) and I could relate so much to what you shared. Beautifully put together and what an amazing and inspiring story.... loved it and have sent her the link for when she is back in the land of good internet. Can’t wait for out next adventure (together - just take me with you)

I don’t understand the dislikes! These are a married couple who have a passion for steelheading. And the greatest thing is that neither of them are ego driven. Ego is something that is more prevalent in steelhead fishing. Especially if your a Steelhead guide. Most people think you need that over confidence for these fish. But these two prove you don’t!

This is the most inspirational movie I’ve ever seen that captures fishing, family, and love. Your relationship with family and the river........it’s amazing! The laughter and joy is infectious! I’ve been fly fishing for 6 years now and though my wife does not go with me she sees my passion for this sport. It’s beautiful to be in a sport that will take you to the most breathtaking places. Thank you for sharing.
