Using Kelly's techniques for the last four years on the lower and middle Provo rivers in Utah have put me on more BIG browns than any other techniques learned in forty years of fly fishing!. Thanks, Kelly! Slam the bank!. Pull, strip, unbelievable strike!. Man, for me. The tug is my drug!. Be still my heart!.
Kelly made me a better fisherman by showing me how to tie a Zoo Cougar for free, or so I thought… after the lesson, he told me dont mess with his system & made me buy a CORTLAND 444 full sink line, leader material, & an 8’ fast action rod. Never looked back- this was ??? 30+ years ago. Thanks again 🏴☠️
I've been fishing sinking lines in creeks and streams for 40 years now. It casts like a dream and I can nymph and tight line with ease. Roll casts are so easy with these lines. Accuracy is superb.
Thanks Guys. Love the content you guys create. In the late 90s I bought my 1st flyrod at Mad River Outfitters to hunt smallies. My bass fishing buddies thought I was a trader. Now, I live out west, I'm just learning to chase trout, and I'm looking forward to being called nutz again when I'm using a sinking line up here in the Utah Mountains. Much appreciation.
Great video. Lots of info. I just started using a sinking line and it got my Flys down quicker for sure. Will probably end up purchasing a full sink for next season after watching this. But I did expect it to be a lot longer of a video. ( those of you who watch Kelly's fly videos will know what I mean 🤣)
Two of my very best trout were on a Teeny sinking line, and buggers! Kelly is a great guy and an innovative tyer and fisherman! I hope he comes out with a new video and book soon!
about 38yrs ago - the shops around me in new england and in canada - recommended sink line for general brook, stream and river fishing with wet and floating for dry flies. That was the normal - This is what I did.
Thanks MRO, Brian and Kelly. Love sinking lines. I was looking at some yesterday and glad I waited to purchase. Great timing, I’ll be ordering a few from both MRO and Slide Inn soon. Have a great week! 👍🎣
I fish the AuSable and Upper Manistee Rivers. I started using sinking lines this past season and I’ll never look back. It’s an absolute game changer! Being able to control depths in drifts is awesome! Working a streamer along a log that may be 6” at one end and 3’ at the other used to be tough, not now. Fishing under over hangs and getting to depth is no longer an issue either
Great video and lots of info. I started to use sinking line after watching Kelly's video on drop shotting. And yes, you can use sinking lines on small streams. My home stream is maybe 12 feet across at it's widest spot but, with lots of deep plunges and under cut banks.
Kelly Galloup, what's not to like. Keep the good stuff coming guys. The weather's getting cold out there in Montana so Kelly's about to start doing videos again, can't wait.
Well I think that some review from you about fly lines for brook and small rivers will be very interesting for many fly fishers. Actually difficult to find good WF or DT line for fishing in close. Hope that you will make this review. Thank you
Great video! Nice info! What would you recomend, for a beginer on sinking lines, as an all aroud line for a #6 rod, to fish:bass, zander, carps, barbel...from shore?? Thanks👍
Thanks for watching. Please contact the shop directly with questions like that and they will be happy to help. You can e-mail them or give them a call.
MRO is where you should get your goodies from 110 percent! (Their awesome take it from me) And boy I hope I can make the pilgrimage out to Kelly's shop ASAP!
@@Madriveroutfitters Excellent!! I always enjoy your videos and learn something every time. My dream fishing excursion would be with those two guys. Can't imagine a better time fishing.
Great video as always. I use a sinking line for all the reasons enumerated but isnt a short skagit shooting head with an eight to ten foot length of t10 or t12 line attached going to do the same thing? I have used it a lot and found it to be very easy and efficient to use.
The timing of this is crazy. I tried calling MRO today but realized you were closed, only to ask about what line to put on my new Echo Streamer X. I looked at this or a SA Titan sink tip. How do I not get the Airflo after this? Thanks for the great info
Interesting ,was struggling to understand how these extremely heavy lines could be cast without overloading the rod but assume this is why you say don't false cast them. I will be trying one on a river for seatrout here in UK . The river is eighteen feet deep at high tide but can be as low as two feet at low tide with the pools maybe four to six feet. I'm using a 10ft #6 weight rod , which line would you recommend, preferably with a floating running line.
Just came across a sage vt2 9.5 ft. 6 weight. thought? Is it a med fast, fast, slow action? intend to river fish on the yakima river with streamers and large flies. Thoughts appreciated.
I’m confused Kelly talks about fishing a six weight with the Shovelhead, but it’s only available in two sizes. Does he use the 280 on a six? I’m going to buy a new line, it doesn’t bother me to overline, but I want to make sure.
I Bought the Airflo Max Short 6 wt( from Mad River) for ny trip To the West Branch of the Delaware. It cast like a dream and helped me get into some nice browns! Linked with Brian’s streamer formula leader and a few mini sex dungeons, the fishing couldn’t have been better!
@@Madriveroutfitters lol really? Thanks. I also bought another streamer max for my friend 2 months ago when I was travel to Calgary, and my friend is a new guy to fly fishing . After first day use he said “ it is so smooth to catch “, also he caught 4 good size of Brook trout with woolly buggers.
@@Madriveroutfitters Thanks for the reply! At 10:40 on the video Mr. Galloup said he uses the 200 grain on the 6wt. rod which is what I have. He must have been referring to something else. If so, what do you recommend for a 9.5' 6wt. that would perform similar to the Shovelhead? Thanks!!
I don’t use sinking line due to its texture, most sinking lines are thin diameter and stiff to the feel. Hope that airflo begins making sinking lines with better and thicker material. However for dry lines airflo my best. The feel of an airflo dry lines are unique and I believe it has to do with the polyurethane type of material use in dry lines.😊😊😊😊
