Guys you both are on point. Exactly sort of review I was looking for. Down to earth, day to day issues touched and not moaning that on track either one is underpowered.
Try the current Corolla hybrid. My one will blow these out the water in terms of comfort and handling. You're welcome to feature it on your channel. Good videos btw 👍
I just bought a single owner low mileage ct200h with all the service records from Lexus at a great price somehow. I can relate to so many things in the video
I've recently upgraded from 2008 prius to a 2014 CT200h. Huge upgrade in overall drive and quality. But it's true, CT200h is way too expensive nowadays.
A thieves best friend anything hybrid 99.9% sure they're going to attempt stealing the cat off them! My Mother in law has the CT200h which I personally chose for her knowing how reliable it is whilst being a posher version of the Prius so it looks better in and out.
It's calmed down a lot now though and before, a cat lock was a service only Toyota provided but now you can buy a plate off eBay and it can be fitted with some bolts and it just does the job! A CT200 is the perfect workhorse as it's reliable and fuel efficient!
Really good video guys. Starting a new job where I commute from Northampton to London (as a field engineer, so will be driving in London a lot). Looking at a CT and you've really given me a real world perspective of it.
Was looking at an Auris, but thought if I'm spending real time in it, I need that Lexus comfort. Have also been looking at the IS300h but hatch practicality, and probably better economy in the CT is pushing me towards it.
I'm glad this video will help make your decision! It's not a fancy video with a performance car but I made this for people with conundrums such as yourself. Glad you know the Prius is not the car for you after watching this and a hybrid is definitely a better shout than a diesel even though that sounds like the logical buy
@@CarNitty The way diesels are getting condemned I honestly don't see it being worth it. Also after being a Nissan technician for 5 years I've seen the issues modern diesels have after being choked to death with various emissions related parts being thrown on them.
Definitely. I think the hybrid is a smart move. From what I can see, hybrids get good fuel consumption on urban and motorway whereas diesel is just the latter
If I'm pinching money, Prius. If I have some play money, CT200H. U have to be careful with low mileage, lack of use on traction battery will cause it to fail sooner. Although, engine, bearings/suspension in good shape. Ur dad's Gen2 is IMMACULATE! And the CT200H is in excellent shape also! I'd be happy with either.
I'm planing to swap my Ford Kuga Titanium for the Lexus Ct200 sport 2016 with 49.000 miles . I had test drive yesterday and i was really surprised how good it feels to drive that small car ,and the fuel consumption was really good as well 👌
I get your point about the Gen3 Prius. It’s an ideal no frills car with little maintenance. However PCO drivers have ruined their reputation, a danger on the roads when drivers willingly discriminate against you.
@@Zuiyo1974 maybe not in this video as they're hybrids but cabin noise is very important when I'm driving a performance car. The tone of the exhaust plays a big part in the body
I have had both, the gen 2 was very reliable but boring around 40mpg. Now have the ct200h f sport, sport package is tight, Lexus styling and interior but its slower and the hatch space is lacking. They also have headgasket problems which ill be tackling soon.
Both are great cars but with the Prius you're sacrificing what a typical car offers it's owners as it's built purely for fuel economy and nothing more. The Lexus does feel like a normal car
@@CarNitty Lexus is amazing because of the reliability, I really enjoyed my gti's and e30's which have been reliable but tend to need more work which is fine if you don't need to depend on them. Love your comparison videos, keep it up!
Believe it or not, I've seen plenty of Japanese cars such as the Prius or a Micra get no maintenance done yet perform day to day without any large issues
It's very clear that anyone who drives a Honda Jazz or a Nissan Juke or whatever modern Japanese car, doesn't care about the way the car drives and thus they don't even see the poor seating position as an issue
The only thing stopping me from buying an old hybrid is the theft of catalytic converters. Neither will I be buying while the used car prices are so ridiculous.
I had this concern when I bought my dad's Prius. It's very simple to buy a CAT shield nowadays. I bought a CAT shield for £40 off eBay and paid £20 for the install. It's a big metal plate that gets screwed onto the underside of the car. During the install, I found out the car doesn't have a genuine CAT so it was already stolen and thus the aftermarket ones are of no use to them so happy days.
@@CarNitty I know about cat shields and cat guards but I'm not convinced they'll stop a determined thief. The parasites stealing them are organised. As for a non genuine cat, they'll still steal it. They're not going to examine it, They want to be under your car and away as fast as possible. I just don't want the constant worry when I leave my car.
A cat thief is usually a professional thief. He will not be a an opportunist looking to make a quick buck. As a result, they will never go after an aftermarket cat. They can look at it and know that's not worth their time and risk. In regards to the shield, they are effective tools as they add extra time and effort to steal a CAT and the longer they spend to steal one, it increases the chance of getting caught. It works like steering wheel locks and ghost immobilisers for cars.
I’m sorry, you’re planning on not buying a car because of potentially a thief may or may not in the area that you live decide to steal a catalytic converter? That’s stupid.
@@benjaminjantzen1398 Three work colleagues have had their catalytic converters stolen in the past 6 months. You may live in a low crime zone but not all of us are that fortunate. I've weighed up the risk and made my decision. If that causes you to have a hissy fit then I'm afraid there's nothing I can do to help you.
@@backtotheprius I'm personally quite against plug in hybrids. The time taking to charge it and the range you get is useless. A traditional hybrid for me works better

These are the 2 cars I’m interested in right now
Prius gen 4 and CTh2014-2016
I'm sure the comparison very much applies even though the cars you're after are newer gen
I have considered both, but the CT's quality edges it for me. Great comparative review guys.
