I've been watching a dozen reviews of this car, this one was by far the most useful, interesting and comprehensive one. I found all the info I was looking for. Thanks !
The more you drive the car the more you'll realize that the hybrid drive still does a lot of work at highway speeds. In the passing lane the battery provides instant boost. Hill climbs and starts from a stop also use the battery for acceleration, and when the computer decides that the battery is full, it will slow the engine down and use up battery power for a while.
That is a seriously, seriously kind comment. Thank you very much! Definitely made my day and gave me some motivation! I hope to get more reviews out soon. Take care and see you in some new vids soon!
@@sammygoris I’m happy to hear that my comment inspired you and lifted up your day. I’m looking forward to seeing what you create. Thoughtful, detailed and unbiased reviews like this really help people make buying decisions.
Awesome review that specifies the pros and cons very good. I own a 2015 (facelift) high spec version for nearly 3 years. I live in the Netherlands, and because it’s as flat as a pancake the engine noise is not to bad as the engine doesn’t have to work hard. But during holidays in France, Italy and Switzerland I found the engine very noisy and sluggish in the mountains. Apart from that it’s a great car. I’m doing 4,98 l/100 km on average since I own the car. I created some more bootspace by removing the foam with the compartments under the bootfloor. It had plenty of room for a space-saver spare tyre and some other stuff. It’s funny to see some small specification differences between the European models and the ones in New Zealand. I don’t have a heated steering wheel, and it was not even on the optionlist. But I do have an electric passenger seat (only no lumbar adjustment). I also have a display on the right of the speedo-meter on the dashboard.
Hey Ralf - really interesting hearing your side of things! One thing I regret not mentioning in the video is that the facelift/changes made to the car definitely make a big difference, the facelift bumper is way nicer/newer, and the LCD screen in the gauge cluster is way better than the little pixelated one. I'm half dutch - so I totally get what you mean about being flat!! NZ is not quite so flat. But that's a very good point, you won't really have to deal with those engine noise issues too much. Thanks for your comment! Hope you're not getting too cold down in the Netherlands!

Well done, this is the best review of the Lexus CT200H that I have seen. Starting at 20:00 the mpg figures seem to be for USA gallons which strangely are smaller than the imperial gallon familiar to older viewers in NZ Aus South Africa and England. 🤔 The rough conversion from l/100km to imperial mpg is 10 l/100km is about 28mpg and so 5l/100km is about 56mpg imperial.
Great review! It did sound completely unbiased the whole way and I really appreciate that and as much as I like my CT, I agree with all the pros and cons you listed. It was intended to be the entry level Lexus but it feels like it really should be starting at a more premium level as the hybrid system quietness makes better for luxury.
Great review. I'm thinking of buying one of these in the UK and found your video. It's a shame about the CVT engine noise but I think it will be an ideal car for me. It's zero road tax in the UK too. Hi, I have a question. How long, time wise, or far do you have to travel to charge the battery? My commute to work is about 10miles and typically takes around 30minutes, sometimes less depending on traffic, it’s mostly three lane carriageway around London, I’m trying to get an idea how much the engine would be running compared to the electric motor. Would this be sufficient time/distance to maintain the battery? Nice review by the way and I agree with you on the pro’s and con’s, although the lack of an electrically adjusted steering wheel is not a big issue for me. As for your summation, yes I agree completely and is why I’m seriously considering this car.
Hey there, Thanks for your question. It's hard to say to be honest. It charges and discharges faaairly quickly, but that also depends on the condition of your battery (batteries near the end of their life won't hold charges for as long). My drive to work is about 20-30 minutes. Basically the EV mode turns on and off ALL the time. It's not like you drive for 5 minutes fully on battery and then the next 5 minutes it's fully petrol. Between traffic lights, it's normal battery only when at the light, then you drive and you use the petrol engine, then you slow down a bit, due to traffic, turns etc and that can be fully electric, with a bit of braking here and then it keeps the charge. Basically in short, you'l be fine with your 30 minutes/10 mile commute. My commute works very well with it - I use enough of the EV mode to save gas (maybe roughly 50% of the time the engine will be off), but not too much that it depletes the battery before I get there. If you were driving purely on the highway, you would be pretty much only using the petrol engine. All the best for finding a good CT!
@@sammygoris Thanks for getting back to me, it’s much appreciated. You’ve pretty much covered what I initially thought, I wasn’t expecting it to run purely on EV fully for a set time/distance, just to assist when the traffic gets heavy, but wasn’t sure if my journey time/distance would be long enough to keep it topped up. Thanks again.

I own this car and I easily get 45 MPG 😂it’s the best car I’ve owned especially compared to German car
Over price Prius? Good luck getting Prius fully loaded for 26k
The drive is more refined than the Prius but the engine is very thirsty for a hybrid, but I prefer my Mercedes A45
Thirsty engine? Nope. My 2016 is getting a consistent 45 MPG. I'll take it, especially now.
RC dash looks a 93 SC
11:03 Prius cameo
The title is triggering... I had to find out lol
So many complaints on this car.. Engine noise, low body that scratches in bump easily, poor design quality that makes rain water entering inside the car.. That is why they stopped the production..
the music is stupidly lound
It's not a Mercedes, it's reliable. 😂
OH MY GOD! No cup holders in the rear.
Well what do you expect in a LIXUS and no electric steering wheel adjuster.
Well that is what you get in a LIXUS.
@Old Edwardian Some Lexus have cup holders at the back with the drop down tray like my GS350. So shut up because obviously you haven't own the expensive type of Lexus because if you do you shouldn't be talking like that.
@@michellee.8075 Oh so I can ONLY REPLY IF I HAVE OWNED AN EXPENSIVE LEXUS.
Well excuse me your majesty, this poor little lowly serf with go and back to his slave quarters and eat his grits.
@@oldedwardian1778 And based on your response you also don't have reading comprehension, what I meant was you can NOT say " that's what you get and expect in a LIXUS " because not all lexus are made the same. Or should I say yes you can only reply if you make sense and if you only know what you are talking about, because based on how you talk you don't know much.
@@michellee.8075 My reading comprehension of the English language is EXCELLENT, my writing is also.
You do not understand the use of IRONY.
@@oldedwardian1778 Your sentence structure sucks, however.
It needs a supercharger lol
