  • @truantray
    @truantray 3 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    A few things guys. I own a 2017 Ct200h:
    The interior is not leather.
    It's not the prius chassis, nor is the drive train the same.
    The gas tank is not small, it easily gets 600km range because its a hybrid.
    Sport mode just affects throttle response.
    In eco, you save 20% more fuel, and the car runs more often in EV mode.
    It only makes 130hp, so I fail to see the point of wide tires which will just waste gas.
    It's the same weight or lighter than Prius models, due to aluminum parts, hood, trunk lid. It's much lower CoG makes it corner better than most hatchbacks.
    You buy this car because it saves thousands a year in gas and pays for itself in 10 years, which it will, because its not a crap hatchback like the Focus, Golf, Kia, etc. The build quality is at another level.
    New tires and rims, but no TPMS?
    At 5.8l/100km, you must be two pedal driving.
    And finally, that front lip will not last a winter.
    Also, these comments about the battery... it's NiMH , has a TEN YEAR warranty, and they have been seen to last 300,000 miles +. Because its a hybrid, brakes last forever and the gas motor gets a fraction of the use of a regular car, and does not idle. Battery replacement is rare and costs $4000, but this car can save you $3000/yr in fuel costs.

    • @l8apexr
      @l8apexr 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      uh...... so much misinformation & haterade. So...... Standard was NuLuxe synthetic "leather" and upper grades got leather. So there is leather available on CT200h. 1.8L eCVT hybrid 2ZR-FXE... were in ZWA10 and XW30 both based on the MC platform.....so the platform is shared w Prius. Sport mode doesn't just affect throttle response, it adds 100V more output (500-->600V). Sport mode changes not only throttle but also Electric Power Steering (EPS) settings are modified to give a faster response to driver inputs. In addition, Sport mode provides less intrusive operation of the Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Traction Control (TRAC) systems.

    • @andrewp9954
      @andrewp9954 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The battery replacement (very similar to Prius, same battery modules I believe) isn't too bad if you know how to balance the cells and replace those that are failing. I had to replace 8 cells in my 2010 Prius with 80k miles. I suspect they failed due to the car being shipped from Japan after sitting for who knows how long on a car lot. $4,500 car (+$2,000 shipping), $300 batteries and it's now getting 50+ mpg (4.5l/100km) avg.

    The moment when you watch the video, read the comments and really want to buy that car... and then remember that you already own it. Bought it a bit more than a year ago (build 2012), and really enjoy it. Very pleasant and smooth ride, practical controls, great looks and also here in Germany, it's also quite a unique car (not like the regular boring golf).

    The suspension in these are sourced from the Scion TC2 platform so they're quite sporty in the twisties unlike the prius which doesn't have independent rear suspension. There's turbo kits for the 2ZR engine as well, but the hybrid version has 13:1 compression so not recommended.

      In sport mode, I find it bearable. It depends on the type of car enthusiast you are. If you like pure speed, stay far far away.
      For me, I have an FR-S as my toy car (slow in the world of toy cars) and have always valued cornering above straight line. So the poor acceleration of the CT is made up for because of the independent suspension, short wheelbase and pretty decent steering. Plus it’s sooo much more chill and luxurious than the FR-S.

    I own a 2015 F Sport and it’s the best daily you can buy. It’s not fast, but it’s quick and handles awesomely. Super comfortable seats too. Sport mode is nice and very responsive. I’m in Europe so I can fill the tank with 60€ and it lasts 800km in eco mode. I’m very satisfied. One complaint is about the tyres: it came with Yokohama and I didn’t like them, so I put Continental on and the car became a bit boring for my tastes. I want to try some Toyo to make her livelier because I enjoyed them on my previous car.

The CT takes curves like a champ... really surprising. Of course the quarter mile on my GT500 is 10.6 versus the Lexus it's just not comparable if course, I would love to install that front lip, where could I get one of those?.... Word to the wise, careful about the head gaskets on this engine. Bought mine used at 260Km and immediately had to spend 2000$ at Toyota for a head gasket. Still a great car and now runs great! No regrets.

      It’s based off the third gen Prius. I was concerned about the battery when buying one. But there are examples well into the 200k realm with no replacements needed. Taxi services have also used the Prius as a fleet vehicle, if that says anything about their reliability.

    I daily a CT200h as well. Regarding the tank size, it’s 11.9 gallons so if you’re getting 35 mpg you can drive over 400 miles. I get about 39 average and I just fill up around the 400 mile mark every time. The weird thing is the gas gauge reads empty and the light comes on at about 315 miles. Some kind of weird over caution on Toyota’s part. I assure you there’s still a lot left in the tank when that happens.

    I have a 2012 F sport CT200h with the blue springs. You have effectively built what Lexus sold as a dealer installed option package. The car is reliable, slow enough to keep me out of speeding tickers, but handles so darn well it's a blast to drive. I get about 41 mpg consistently. This is the first car I have ever owned where I can't find anything to modify. Maybe a better located USB charge port? I've considered replacing the struts and springs to get the inch or so that the blue springs dropped the car back. I frequently end up having more weight in the back than I would like and it makes clearing speed bumps and driveway sometimes tricky.
    My biggest complaint are sun visors that are SO tiny as to be almost useless. Otherwise, great little commuter!

    Prius do have sport mode is called power mode. Btw the Prius should b faster than the Lexus. You guys should drag race them. Generation 2 is the fastest 04-10 to 100 but generation 3 has more top end you can go 115mph. If you want the hardest launch you put it in maintaince mode it gives you more traction and it keeps engine running all the time and it lets you do burnouts.

    Lexus CT200h owner here. I definitely agree that the gas tank feels small and you believe you only get about 350 miles on the tank, but the gas reading is way off.
    Once you hit the gas light, you still have about 100-120 more miles to go. So in actuality you can get 400- 420 miles to the tank.

    Wow, didn't know the CT was heavier than the Prius but it makes sense. Anyway, drivetrain in these and the 3rd gen Prius is exactly the same. Prius 3s' also have the "power mode" lol but to me it seems just like a different throttle pedal map. It really wakes up the car though. Also, not a traditional CVT - no belt and no pulleys, just two electric motors and a planetary gearset simulating the action of a CVT. And those being completely computer controlled the manufacturer can make them do whatever they want, that's why the CT feels punchier than a car with a traditional CVT.

  • @ReubenHorner
    @ReubenHorner 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think it's a large oversight to call it a cvt. It's really complicated but there are no changing gears, no chain, no torque converter etc. All gears are in constant mesh and it does some cool as things with two electric motors that allow any engine speed at any speed which extracts more usable power from the engine (that is actually very detuned vs the non hybrid engine) and the electric motors fill in the gap so to speak. Look up Prius power split device if you want to learn more.
