I myself feel like the complaints about shield are overblown. It is not a "I use this and I win the game option". Staying in shield uses dodge meter, which is your defense and mobility. There is literally a universal shield break which comes out fast and will be implemented better since they've already shown off shorthopping and fastfalling making movement a lot faster and smoother. In the hour or 2 I played with Shields I always felt that when I got hit by a shield breaker it was my own fault and it was a mindgame. Not to mention some aerials are just inherintly less safe (IG Nair) and should be used more sparingly which shields definitely do allow for. There's enough counterplay, people are just not wanting to adapt (HardcoreFox I'm looking at you)
Yeah I think people just aren't used to the shield breaker and don't use it leading them to believe that shields are unbeatable. I also think that some movesmoves that do really well against shirld like Taz tornado that just eats your shield if you try to block it.
Needs to be shield stun. To me the biggest problem from day 1 of beta till now is the fact that no matter how low or late you do an aerial, the full attack will go out and have you hover above the ground. That and just the general flatness of once you initiate an aerial, it just makes you float relatively in space, and minimizes gravity and previous momentum
You also have to realize characters like Shaggy, Superman, Wonder Woman, etc have armor moves. Meaning if this gets added you have to deal with both their shield AND armor, effectively making them untouchable.
This is a problem in the whole genre. It all stems from Smash Brawl that made 99.99% of moves minus, even in Ultimate and Rivals 2 95% of moves are minus on shield. If come from 2D fighters, you can notice this easily. You are the only one to notice this in over 5 years.
I hope this game doesn’t die again It’s a really cool idea but the game design at its core is so awkward. Weird hitboxes the input delay they have in between moves make the game feel so slow. The game has so much potential but it’s being limited 🙏🏾
Listen I understand playing aggressively and I used to hate shields because of how aggressive I was. But in this game you need them sometimes because some characters are broken and defensive options would make that better to play against.
I would argue many of the games core issues are because of the lack of a universal block mechanic. The reason why characters like Morty or Shaggy are so frustrating to play against is because of a lack of good options against their kits. For example, when Shaggy is about to kick you, you have two options: A. Jump over him, or B. Try to dodge it. Well, in case A you will generally be too slow so most players would go for option B. In option B's case, even if you time the dodge properly you still are generally not going to have enough time to punish Shaggy due to the distance of the kick. Because you are unable to punish said kick, Shaggy will continue to spam it. Shields solves this by giving the player extra options to deal with annoying moves such as Shaggy's kick. Now instead of having to time a dodge against a predictable move, I am now able to block said option and punish with my own option. One of the biggest complaints about current Multiversus how frustrating it can be and a big reason for that is the lack of options the game has when you are against predictable, spammable options like Shaggy's kick (Morty's dirt and Taz tornado are also applicable). Giving the player more options in combat is a good thing.

@@Mewzuw fucking obviously they have to add grabs, any kind of blocking/shielding mechanic in a fighting game needs a way to get through it, and grabbing has universally been that since street fighter 2

Biggest issue imo about adding shields is what makes Steven universe unique to play then? Why was it not a design from the start? I like MVS but the dev team is uncertain if it wants to be casual party game or comp platform fighter. Not willing to stick around to find out. Too many other actually well designed games to spend my time on. Best of luck to those of you who actually wanna stick it out.
Idk man, everytime i play this it just feel sooooo sluggish Anytime i play any other game and come back to this game it makes Multiversus feel so slow. It just feels like u move slow and every move u do come out slow. I just dont know how they had a game that felt so smooth and responsive in the beta and changed the whole game bruh. I know they say its for the viewing experience but most fighting games and platform fighters move pretty fast so i dont even understand that. I used to like this game a lot, it gave a lot of freedom when it came too your combo routes and method of play, for example i used the balloons and bombs Harley has as field control and combo extensions. But if try to play that same way the balloon flies up, i pull out the bomb really slowly and detonate it slowly, its way harder to follow up if they actually get hit but the balloon since i move slower, i try to use dair and harley slowly moves down. TLDR; game feeling like your trudging through mud everytime i try to play game

Another idea I'm not shocked this incompetent development team didn't add was grabs. That could have been a good counter for shield spammers
Yeah always being plus is a problem, having to learn which attacks can be punished on shield is a part of the skill factor

It will too, any OP move and attack will be mostly be countered by shields while they fix It, plus bad characters will have a better fighting chance
