      I agree about the 2013 reboot. I LOVE the Evil Dead Franchise, all 3 films and the show. Yeah, the reboot didn't have the charm of the originals, especially not having the legendary Ash Williams. It didn't have the humor, it didn't have the amazing cinemtography. But, it was pretty damn great as a straight up horror. It also did a great job at capturing the raw brutality of the deadites. You're better off against a ghost, a zombie, a vampire, nearly anything else over a deadite. They don't just want you to dead. They want to torture you first. Emotionally and mentally first, using the memories of the body and soul they have stolen, to say and do the most awful things. Then they want to torture you with awful pain in horrific ways. Then they allow another of their kind to take over your body, which sends your soul to hell to suffer. They have super strength, super speed, and are extremely hard to kill. They can also possess objects and not just people.

    Isn’t the point of 2013 evil dead that it took the series back to evil dead 1 and ignored the funniness of the other two.

    • @SteadFast411
      @SteadFast411 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      True, and even as a fan of 2013, I still understand peoples' complaints with it; they enojyed the funniness of the other two. It succeeded with flying colours in ging down the far more sombre and severe violence route like Raimi's original film, but you can't expect to create such a film after 2 and AoD and not have auidences respond with "...where's the jokes? the cheesy one liners?".
      A lot of people who critique 2013 understand what the goal was in making it, they just have their taste or impression of what they enjoyed most about Evil Dead as a series, and a huge portion of that was the humour.

    That's quite a move. I think the problem with horror is it's been designed at least since the 80s to cheer on the death and suffering as "earned" and be twisted morale tales so we don't feel all that bad. So to go, nice family minding their own business just suffers horrors unimaginable... well damn, that's horrible, sad, gross and just a bummer. But I respect them, because that is truly horrifying.

    • @kathyheyne6030
      @kathyheyne6030 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s why the original Poltergeist worked so well, Sabrina. We cared about the family because time was spent on character development and family dynamics. It’s also why the remake …didn’t.

    The cinema I went had tedious ticket prices. But seeing the Evil Dead Rise was worth every penny. It was full of tropes from other movies but there were no stereotypes and the acting was excellent. It was intelligent and pushed the boundaries artistically, Sam Raimi has always been Conzidtent in his film making, and is one of the reasons I can still tolerate The American film and TV Industry. I refuse to call it hollyweird. Full marks for Evil Dead Rise

    This one is a lot more unnerving to me than the other films because of the mother and family aspect. All me and my sibling's life, we have been going through watching our mother's mental health deteriorate and it's been getting worse beyond repair. A "deadite" can be a metaphor for that very thing watching someone close to you suffer terminal or debilitating disease and it's nothing you can do about it but watch them get consumed by it. So, this one f**ks with me a little more than the other ones.

    The way you reviewed this movie is the way I saw the reboot of 2013, and I see this movie the way you saw the 2013 reboot 🙃 everything from “Did this have to be an Evil Dead this could have been anything…You get the cameo of the shotgun and the chainsaw…” the entire review word for word how I felt about this movie; the whole reading the book not just being a stupid white people thing but more of curiosity of a crazy looking book,and like these people not being bad just trying to help each other and “I’m not just here for you I’m here for everyone” but there was something I realized; you got from this movie what I got from the 2013 reboot, and that is that Evil Dead can exist in both realms of comedic, horror and maybe even everything in between that is what’s great about Evil Dead, It’s that it can exist in multiple genres but of course it’s gotta be done right and either way I’m excited to see more Evil Dead
