It’s not really surprising they made Leon dumb. There seems to be a thinking in Hollywood that badass women have to be partnered with incompetent men in order for the woman’s badassery to shine.
This is why I love Wonder Woman. It was nice and refreshing to see Wonder Woman team up with the equally competent and badass Steve Trevor. And the movie showed that they made each other better instead of bringing each other down. I wish the rest of Hollywood would take note of this.
See I think Hollywood believes that men don't care if they are portrayed as dumb, but they believe that women do, so they need to make women tough to draw in the female audience.
If they were to try again with this franchise, they have to do Code Veronica. I think it's the scariest in the franchise with surprisingly a lot of layers. The (possibly incestuous?) disturbing relationship between Alexia and Alfred, Alfred's obsession with her, his fractured mental state, their father’s negligence and what they eventually did to him. I love in the game, how they keep referencing Alexia, in dialogue, through old video, through portraits and even a twisted doll, but you don't actually see her until second half, and she is very very fucked up. The game brought great mystery and suspense. Know it's not a game review but yeah, that's the game I would adapt.
I don't know man I don't think they could find someone to voice Steve's iconic voice heyyy Claiiirree LOL this had a Code Veronica Easter egg in it it was the video of Alfred and Alexia falling apart the dragonfly, with William Birkin looking down at them eagerly it was kind of weird to add that.
I knew it was gonna be bad right from the announcement. The problem is that resident evil as a game is original but as a movie, its a complete knockoff of other horror films that already done it. Zombies are no longer original to use anymore, mutated monsters have even been done to death. As a game it was a wish fulfilment to live out your horror fantasies and that's why people liked it. You were in a B-movie with b-movie stuff going on. I just can't see Resident evil as a movie anymore at all because the original game was borrowing from everybody. I could just watch the original Dawn of the dead and get my zombie fix from there. I could watch Cronenberg films if I want to see mutated monsters. I could just watch Jason and Michael myers if I wanted Mr. X.
I feel that's going to be the issue with Uncharted (film). The actions sequences from the game were inspired by actions scenes or had the tone of live action films. However, now the movie is going to try to recreate these sequences from the game but the issue is that many other action movies have done it (F&F for instance) so it's just going to be a run of the mill action flick. It's like a snake eating it's own tail.
@@yakuza01 That's been one of the big problems for movie adaptations of more realistic mature videogames. So many of those videogames borrow elements from movies within their genres or from others, sometimes they just blatantly rip off scenes and characters, but it's okay because of the format. But if you then try to transition into a movie, it's like consuming someone's regurgitated food.
The kid under the table saying "YOU need help" was most likely a reference to Sherry in the remake when Claire finds her with William being on her ass, offering her help but Sherry then scaredly says that same line. Just another example among a million, of reference to the games just randomly strewn about the movie with no fucks given.
As another reviewer said the video games already look better then most movies so there's really no point to watching this. If you want to see a realistic RPD just play the Resident Evil 2 remake it has a better story, characters, and you get a fun game to play too.
Well horror movies are generally cheap to make, unless a studio really believes in a project or is willing to pump a lot of money into it for what the film needs you can always expect a lower budget

Depending if you're going by the games or SD Perry books STARS were created for 2 different reasons. Games they were created as an elite search and rescue/ Special Response Teams in cities funded by Umbrella. In the books they were formed as a counter terrorist task force nationwide to deal with everything from the occult to domestic terrorism. They operate in this kind of weird gray area that you rarely see nowadays when it comes to law enforcement they're attached to police departments and have arrest authority but they operate as an independent unit and don't do regular beat cop duties. Also fun fact the reason Brad Vickers had a rocket launcher in the helicopter is Barry had him hide it in there after they found it during a raid on a house.
Resident evil 1 and 2 didn't happen at the the same time. Resident evil 0 and 1 kinda happened at the same time and Resident evil 2 and 3 happen at the same time. This movie was combining RE1 and RE2 whichever happened weeks to months apart. Just a bit of clarification.
@@robertdelgadocapetillo8684 I was thinking the same thing. RE1 and RE0 were introductions to the T virus and showed how powerful it was against Stars who are very well trained individuals. The thing that a lot of people don't realize is the same thing that George Romero ran into when he wrote a script for Resident Evil in the late '90s. Despite the many changes he made, the script was still very faithful to the game. He had all the boss fights, monsters, characters, most of the major events/encounters from the first game plus new characters and it pretty much followed the game beat by beat down to the boss fights and different enemy encounters. Constantine films who own the film rights to a movie based on Resident Evil so there has to be some changes. I don't know if that states that the characters can't be exactly the same or if they do a movie based on just one of the games they have to include elements from other games who knows what that contract states from Capcom but that's why it's so difficult for them to make a movie that is so faithful to the games. That and everyone wants to put their own spin on things. Am I defending it? Hell Fuckin no!!! I want a Resident Evil movie based on the first game so Fuckin bad!!! It's such a simple premise it's a great well contained story with good characters, monsters, etc. I don't know why they didn't do it this time around, well other than trying to capitalize on the popularity of the recently released Remakes and all the younger new fans. Trying to cram 2 whole games together with all those characters in an hour and a half is beyond Fuckin stupid!!!
a dream scenario would've been a director just focusing on re2 because between re1 and 2, 2 is the more popular game. and if they really wanted to mix games then they maybe could've added 3 since both games take place at the same time and in the same place. and with re2, it has raccoon city, one of the most popular cities in video games, they could've went into some major detail with the city, show its people, the buildings, the popular locations and show Claire and Leons journey prior to entering raccoon city so you can build up the suspense. put mr.x in the movie, make him the big scary villain that shows up unexpectedly just like the games, and at the same time don't forget to make William birkin one of the key villains in the movie. this would've been a MUCH better film, but Sony can't get a good director to make these movies. also a solo film with nemesis would've also been cool, Jill going throughout raccoon city, surviving the zombies and nemesis would've made an awesome action film, they literally could just call it resident evil: Nemesis.
Actually RE0 and RE take place at the same time. RE2 and 3 take place at the same time but several months after the first two. Chris is in Europe and Jill is in the City investigating Umbrella, when Claire shows up looking for her brother and meets Leon.
Korey the budget was actually $25 million I can't believe they couldn't get more than that for such a huge video game franchise movie. It was all spent on the set pieces of the Spencer mansion, the RPD and the CG for the Licker LOL
You can make a Resident Evil film with even less budget. The production team who make videogame movies most of the time don't care if it's good. Just as long as they get money back.

Then they got Andersized (A Paul WS Anderson directed film/franchise). Now after Milla Jovovich's billion-dollar RE film franchise, now it's back to cutting corners with this cheaply made mess. I'll catch it on Netflix.
They made Leon look like Carlos and act like Ethan.

Nah, Ethan was way smarter then movie Leon.
At least Ethan had no training so I get it but what's Leon's excuse?

Seriously they did Leon so dirty. They made this version of him so dumb that I don’t even know how he made it to this point in his life. Let alone to survive the whole night. Hearing Korey say the name "Leon" gave me Spill review flashbacks.
Quick correction: Resident Evil 2 and 3 actually take place at the same time. 2 takes place about three months after 1.
Without acknowledging the RE3 remake, 2 and 3 happen across roughly the same 4-day period.

Yeah and they didn't even happen at the same time
It should had been two movies or a 3 hour movie
The fact they showed Alfred and Alexia in this movie made me mad 😂
I don't know man I don't think they could find someone to voice Steve's iconic voice heyyy Claiiirree LOL this had a Code Veronica Easter egg in it it was the video of Alfred and Alexia falling apart the dragonfly, with William Birkin looking down at them eagerly it was kind of weird to add that.
It’s like they knew what they have is bad they shoved in everything they could think of
I disagree with it being the scariest in the franchise
@@Spawnwick_Boseman82820 to each his own. Which one do you think is?

I don't understand how a billion dollar franchise only give out $40 million for a reboot. Some TV series got bigger budget than that
Well horror movies are generally cheap to make, unless a studio really believes in a project or is willing to pump a lot of money into it for what the film needs you can always expect a lower budget
Because they literally have the same philosophy as blumehouse films. They're goals are simply to make big profits on their budgets. The final chapter cost lest to make then Retribution and it still made bank. They are never concerned with making good action movies because people buy them anyway.
They read the script before assinging the budget.

Chris left the city after the first game because umbrella and the police chief covered up what happened at the Spencer mansion and silenced stars alpha team.

Resident Evil 3 and 2 take places at the same time. Resident Evil 1 takes place a few months before the others
Love that bit about everyone writing down their every thought in these games as clues hahahah
Korey the budget was actually $25 million I can't believe they couldn't get more than that for such a huge video game franchise movie. It was all spent on the set pieces of the Spencer mansion, the RPD and the CG for the Licker LOL
Another reason why it should have been about RE1 only. Then if that does good make RE2 the movie.

I watched this movie randomly on tv, only with limited knowledge of the movies from the 00's. It was just a mess
I had little hopes this movie would be any way near decent.. but as soon as I saw who they casted as Jill, I realize THAT little hope was still too much. This Movie is FUBAR. There is no excuse for it's existence.
Now I know how the Devil May Cry fans feel when they decided to reboot DMC franchise with DmC: Devil May Cry.
Not sure if you guys know this, great content btw. But RE 1 doesn't happen the same time as 2. RE 2 and 3 does. But RE 1 was a month or 2 prior. Thats why it didnt make any since Leon met the whole crew or Claire at the mansion. Though i cud however see, and think about this..
What if on Chris's way out of town he see's Leon at a bar or tavern. They don't have to have any dialogue but aye whatever. But Leon's on his way to town as Chris heads out and that was their first meeting? I'da been ok with that change. Leon still misses the outbreak cuz he passed out at the hotel. Chris is gone for Europe and Leon doesn't know its Clair's brother that he met. Hello Leon and Claire, welcome to Raccoon City.
The whole opening sequence shouldve been the Arklan Mts, if you planned on cramming everything in (or just had its own movie.) And you have a for sure sequel to expand upon, especially if you planned on making more movies. God this movie should just be made by fans.
I knew it was doomed when they pushed how the Director was such a fan of the games and in his words he says "Before the Leon we know now, he was this nerdy reluctant hero (RE2)" Uh no TF he was not! He had his shxt together from the start! 🤬 the Spencer Mansion stairs were straight CGI. I've played RE since 1996 and have been let down by all the movies and spinoff games trying to juice the nostalgia (ORC). The remakes have been great.....well not RE3 Remake. Lol
They should have had people pick up items, press buttons and notes where you dont see their hands.
Leon is supposed to be a bad white boy LoL 😂
Sounds like the Warcraft movie, where they crammed in so much lore and exposition from the first game they forgot to make the movie watchable.
at the end of the movie they didn’t have Leon fire the rocket launcher backwards by accident, that would've been epic and more convincing.
Anybody miss Paul W.S. Anderson (Weak-Sauce), yet? Lol
The Green Knight introduced the idea that a protagonist can be a bumbling ass and that it should be acceptable to the audience.
20:16 To correct Corey here: RE 1 and RE2 do not happen at the same time in terms of canon though the movie would have you believe otherwise. The incidents are several days apart.
When I saw the trailer I thought the actor they got for Leon was supposed to be Carlos from RE 3
So when
Avan Jogia is *Indian/American,*
Leon is *"brown"* !
When Hannah John Kamen is *Norwegian/Nigerian,*
Jill is *"Black"* !
But when Jill is *French/Japanese,*
Jill is *"yellow"* ?
You guys see with a single eye only when it fits your "colored" narrative, isn't it ?
By the way I'm the face model for *Carlos Oliveira.*
@@bensonmokhtar2895 I never said shit about anyone being any color, I just said the actor for Leon looks more like Carlos. Also you look damn good then sir
@@kenzihenderson5258
Leon is an *Italian* American immigrant in the original 98 game.
Leon has brown eyes, brown hair and a soft copper skin tone in the original game.
Leon becomes suddenly *blond* in RE4 is anybody complaining about it ?
@@bensonmokhtar2895 Idk I always thought Leon was a brunette from the start my only reason for thinking Leon was Carlos was cuz in the remake Carlos has that lucious curly hair and so too does this actor they cast as Leon
@@kenzihenderson5258
Avan doesn't have curly hairs. He has straight hairs. Waivy hairs aren't curly hairs.
Anyway watch this explanation for Leon

I feel like it was a missed opportunity not to add Mr. X to the movie to spice up that horror factor because it wasn’t really scary in my opinion. The games do a better job at scaring me than this movie. I thought of the same thing as they should of did Resident Evil one game as a movie than the resident evil 2 as the second movie. The thing g that bothered me the most was having Jill and Chris working as Raccoon City police station as cops or special agents in a obviously low budget town when they both worked under the Umbrella Corporation. This movie was a waste of time and money I can never get back
The movie should've just taken place in the Spencer Mansion and not include Leon (especially that Leon).
They even stuffed some Code Veronica in there with the twins
They really did done Leon dirty in that film
15:00 you explained the character of Leon really well
