It seems fitting that Lumina, the original rose, is the weapon of choice that we should use when we return to fight our nightmares on the moon. Only difference? Lumina will not fail this time.
I'm going in with masterworked Rose, and the Destruction Complex armor in 2.0.

I want to see us kill Shin Malfur in Shadowkeep. A weapon of hope, putting down a Guardian rotted from the inside out by a festering sickness that compels him to invite Guardians to the Darkness, only to be slaughtered because they're 'weak'.
How awesome would it be if upon killing Xol, our Rose glows bright and blooms before our very eyes in a golden gun like animation.

A fun fact is that if you have a Special or Heavy slot exotic equipped alongside Rose at the time, you just... become unarmed. Like you actually just don't have a weapon equipped in your primary slot and can't even switch to it. It's super weird to see lol. I kind of wonder if there's a quest exotic that does the same thing but in the Special or Heavy slots, if you could just run around with literally one weapon.

@@derigel9783 If you're holding rose I think it just switches to another weapon, but either way it can't auto-equip Lumina because you have another exotic weapon equipped, so you somehow end up with nothing in your primary slot

I love the idea of guardians crafting a new logic. The hive has sword logic, Mara has bomb logic, guardians... Guardians have garden logic.
I'd like to think the guardians are using their own logic too, my interpretation of it is the cultivation logic. let a seed grow, and when the right time comes, strike with all your might, cause the chain reaction of light and let the seed bloom. we are guardians but also humans, we evolve through conflict and bloodshed, tears and pain, but we always come on top in the end. I really hope the next steps of destiny will let us choose our path, the path of darkness, the path of light , or the path of equilibrium, balance between the forces of creation

I remember when shin first gave us the last word in Destiny 2, I think he felt most sympathy cause we went through the same journey of Revenge in forsaken.
Even using ours mentor's handgun to avenge him.
I like the use of "The Man They Called Cayde" at 7:53, cause the death of Cayde is what caused us to become darker and blur the lines between light and dark.
Not only that. Cayde's lore book, just like Shin's, ends with a warning. Cayde challenges us to find the path to our best selves and to have faith in a better tomorrow. Shin warns us to stay true to the path of Hope, and to remember that "Nothing ends." Neither our fight for survival, nor the hope that we can overcome every obstacle. Cayde, even beyond the grave, pointed us towards the path of Hope; Shin helped us stay true to it.
Like uldren said "the line between light and dark is so vary thin do you know which side your on"

Destiny is so rad, it has Revanites, Cowboys and someone called "Pulled Pork"

@@meifyoucan Uldren Sov ain't dead if the guardian gets something strong to bring back his memories, but before that happens, yes the guardian might not be Uldren Sov. Like Ana Bray got Some of her memories back from her Clovis Bray ID that she had on her on revival.
@@viltsu6 no Anna just got her name back from the tag and then went investigating into her past, a guardian cannot remember their past but they can learn it like history. Anna even hates some parts of her old self, they are a different person all together

I love the sheer concept of the Lumina. This leaves room for guardians to take the initiative to “cleanse” every weapon of sorrow to make more weapons of hope. I love it!!!

@@thebathroomcowboy2742 Its not that bad. The damage buff it gives is to you and your teammates pretty solid and the gun itself isnt bad. Healing is pretty meh though. But if your playing more of a support build Lumina is pretty good imo

I would like to point out, the last verse in the e3 forsaken trailer song is, "I fight and i fight, just to keep the spark alive. but if theres nothing on the other side... why can't I leave well enough alone, and go to the light." It feels almost all of the annual pass is our story, guided by shin malphur. We fought and fought with the ace of spades and the last word, we saw what was on "the other side" with thorn and even malfeasance, and now we came back to the light with Lumina. Or at least thats how I see MY story. Curious on what all of your guys' thoughts are.
And this all started with the lost of a friend, that sparked this conflict in us and to have us walk this path.
Jacob Sprinkle -Maybe it’s just my bias for the Drifter, but I’d like to think I’m in the middle. The way I saw my guardians’ story is as follows: After Forsaken where my Guardian stood was in the middle of light and dark. Upon the events of the Annual Pass his thoughts shifted back and forth, between light and dark; good and evil. From getting Last Word and Ace of Spades, to achieving the Thorn and Malfeasance: my Guardian has treaded a thin line. Upon getting Lumina, that hadn’t changed. Lumina was meant to be my (our Guardian, however you see it) returning back to the Light. But I’d like to think mine never did. To truly snuff out evil, you have to fight fire with fire, per say. Only a combination of light and dark; the grey area in between; will evil be delayed.
That’s the way I see my story in this world. That Grey is exactly what the Drifter talks about. You can’t win the war without a little cheating here and there. You gotta be willing to *misbehave.*

Honestly, Shin is the best character Bungie has ever written. His story and his moral ambiguity is stunning. As an aspiring writer myself, I can't help but say that the writing of the Man With the Golden Gun lends inspiration.
The only problem I have with that is the fact that we've never even seen him in game. We might in D3 I guess.

I just got the Lumina yesturday. Worth it. I love this gun. My favorite was Thorn but now, it's the Lumina. Now i need to get the catalyst.
Just realized the Lumina is a reflection of our journey. From weilding the light in arrogant pride to loosing our light & learning how to survive without it for a brief time. Then we reconnected with our light, relearned how to use it & became stronger for it. We bloomed too.
Ah, I was tearing up at this, it's SUCH an honour for Shin to walk that path and lead us down the trail because he had faith that we would do the right thing and become more than we were. Thank you Byf as always

Wish we could really make it our own weapon, say being able to choose what it would ultimately become like what we did with rose to make it into a "selfless" weapon. We get a frame, choose the end result and go about different steps to forge it; a weapon unique to each wielder
I had a dream like that a couple weeks ago. I was playing a warlock(as a virulent Titan main this dumbfounds me) in Crucible, and the graphics were SUPER crisp. It was a hive themed map that had three "decks" connected by two slopes. Each team spawned on opposite sides, Red at the top deck, Blue at the bottom. There was plenty of spiked cover and other misc stuff like that. The middle deck had a large circular room underneath a large sphere similar to the Shrine of Oryx on the Moon, that often became the first conflict point. I remember checking my inventory a lot and it was similar to the one we have now, only more colorful and in the center where you'd see a title, was a yellow bar that was a one word description of what was an intrinsic perk. Mine was basically "Sight" or some such. I had better target acquisition with all weapons, but it wasn't anything too heinous, It was just a little easier to snap onto targets. I was using a handcannon and a scout rifle I think, it felt more like D1 Crucible. It was cool, but Halo started to leak into the dream. like I was talking to some AI or maybe my ghost, but it sounded distinctly like Halo 2 Cortana.
@@timewellspent8137 few things, firstly: even in dreams warlocks are meta, secondly that location sounded awesome for a new map and thirdly: that perk reminds me of the iron lord artifacts from d1 (like the ones that kept your radar while ads, or the 1 that removed sprint cooldown)
@@chem2430 Yeah something similar, only each perk was somewhat "unique" to the player. Like I remember saying to myself in the dream, "...Don't worry my *intrinsic* perk lets me [something] [something] [I don't remember]." Basically the "Sight" description I gave earlier. Oh yeah and the map was awesome. There were other sort of side-decks connected perpendicular to the slopes that gave better cover and a hogher vantage over the lower decks. It was a bit unbalanced if you spawned at the bottom like I did in the dream, but after the first conflict, the spawns shifted indefinitely from those points, to the side-decks and other places left out of the dream.
@@timewellspent8137 passive perks like that might be a cool addition in the future, kinda like the titles we have now
@@chem2430 yeah like make the titles mean something. A passive perk that can only be acquired by completing the title requirements, that way you REALLY stand out with the title. Chronicler could highlight weak points or give target info like health or something like that. Wayfarer might give you a more detailed radar. Unbroken could be the better target acquisition with all weapons. They should all relate somewhat to how they are achieved.

Shin's message to us in final creating it actually made a man tear up w/ the score.
"Nothing Ends". Hearing that, I was reminded of an iconic line from another series: "War. War never changes." And it got me thinking. If this conflict between light and dark is to never end, that our journey will be cyclical and we become the mentor to those who will come after, then perhaps the Future War Cult has the right of it.
You know, watching this, something that kept coming to my mind was "it's always darkest before the Dawn". And I think that's a fitting thought for this particular video...
I feel like the Thorns catalyst should give health back when you pick up a remnant.
Or for each stack of remnant you get health regeneration

@@elementalthepiratepilot6604 I never played trials because I didnt play crucible much and trials, in my opinion, was just the worst of the Crucible on steroids.
@@brucehc4975 exactly. Trials is the toxic endgame similar to raids. You not only have to face those "most have gone flawless 50+ times" like raid lfgs. You have to face the most meta weapons every single time.
Myelin Games expanded on this first but Byf makes it very theatrical which along with his low narrative tone makes it an absolute listening pleasure! Love both these folks!

It’s a shame that the writers never went anywhere interesting with The First Curse
It hurts me. First Curse was my beloved in D1.
Na. First Curse is just a twin sibling of TLW. No one really quite knows what the story behind The First Curse is mainly because it wasn't really expounded upon.
Unfortunately, it's unlikely that we will hear about because it wasn't that popular of a gun in D1.
And as much as I love the gun, it also wasn't the most optimal HC either.

It’s very good, you just need a crucible partner and communicate. Ace of spades can two tap, and sturm can 1 tap. The issue is it’s bad as if you play solo.
I think that's why you need cooperation to bring out the true power of lumina

That's exactly why I'm still pretty dodgy on the idea of doing literally anything with the darkness honestly. Even if we bend it and subjugate it without falling to it, is it not still Sword Logic? Does the enemy not still spiritually win? The idea of redemption is one thing, but does redemption by force... really entirely qualify?
Yknow sometimes I wish we could find and befriend a Hive defector or something like we how we sort of became allies with The Spider. I really want to have a better understanding of what in the world all their madness actually means, given our sources are dodgy at best.
Sadly, uh... I don't think we're gonna get anybody prominent even if we do considering it's apparently our life's mission to end Oryx's entire bloodline, but honestly I'd like to just talk to even a shmuck who's capable of independent thought and isn't entirely on board with the whole murderous worm cult thing. ...yknow on that note I honestly can't tell if the Hive are a... hive mind or not. Sometimes they strongly seem that way and other times they're depicted as acting with purpose, intent, and, though twisted, reason. And that confuses me immensely.

Question: Is the Darkness really evil? I personally believe Light and Darkness aren't necessarily good or evil as those are human concepts. Light and Darkness are just energy and whether or not it's good or evil depends upon those who wield it. It's easy to see Darkness as being evil because of how destructive it is, especially when we see so many "evil" civilizations using it. But it's not like everyone who used the Light was pure of heart. Some of the first Risen had in fact used their Light to become Warlords and subjugated everyone around them and battling each other for territory. Even though they were Light-bearers empowered by the Traveler itself, they used their power for nefarious purposes. Surely a Guardian fueled by Dark energy could do the opposite and use their power for good, despite the stigma surrounding that Darkness.
I have a feeling Destiny 3 will eventually head in that direction. We will become "corrupted" with the Darkness, but that doesn't mean we'll become evil. Although I would expect us to be shunned by those who see the Darkness as pure evil and nothing more.
I feel like its not necessarily the darkness is something to be feared, its more like who is hiding in the darkness and what are they doing.
NihilusShadow I mean when one side wants to literally wipe out the universe to “supposedly” create the perfect existence....yeah I’d call that evil.
Furthermore, people are given the light and they can choose what to do with it. That does not make the light evil but the people. However as I said before the very nature of the dark is to kill and destroy until nothing is left but the perfect existence. So (at least in the context of this game) yes there are intrinsic things that make the light good and the darkness evil.
@@adarkwind4712 Isn't that the Hive's interpretation of the Darkness though? I thought the exact nature of the Darkness was never actually defined and we only have theory proposed by random characters.
Ulan-Tan for example considers the Darkness to be part of the cosmic balance in the universe. It's meant to be the counterpart to the Traveler itself. Honestly this makes sense to me. The Traveler might create life and bring life to dead worlds, but death and decay is part of the natural order of the universe. Where there is life, there is death and that doesn't necessarily make the Darkness evil.
NihilusShadow old books of sorrow for one. Where oryx actually comes into contact with it. Though you could say that we were told by another hive that the book is full of lies. Not that we can exactly trust that either. However we do have caydes run in with the darkness personally listed in his journal.
I think it would be cool if in D3 whenever it happens, while we are fighting the Darkness finally, Shin and the Shadows show up along with all the other legends like Osiris, Ana, etc. and just show the Darkness what True Light is
Story of Shin Malphur and Dredgen Yor is my favorite story of this universe. This was an amazing video and helps make these weapons and stories more personal on our journeys as opposed to just items
Byf, man, I have always loved this whole story arc. Everything from the Last Word and Thorn and now Lumina. Such great writing on the part of Bungie. But also some fantastic story telling on your part. Every video that you have made about this story has been superb. You and all those work with you have really brought these characters to life and made it about so much more than just weapons we use in-game. You guys are amazing!
This makes so much more sense after beyond light was announced. I wonder if they were foreshadowing about using light AND dark all the way back in sewson of opulence

You think we’re gonna get sort of a shin/dregen season? I know we got season of the drifter but that was sort of gambit/nine focused
I doubt it. We will most likely get a season that is a continuation of their stories, but I don't think they will be directly involved. It would be cool to get a sort of cameo with shin though, maybe seeing him using his golden gun so that his appearance is still left secret.
I honestly felt like this has been the year of shin/dredgen, however this has been more of a background thing.

Just realised that yor isn’t technically dead because his ghost is still alive and since the pyramid ships can corrupt and control ghosts that means that he could come back and because we were the the ones that turned his thorn into Lumina that means we’d be his first target.

when beyond light happens, and the drifter needs to step into the light and away from the dark......I think Shin should take up gambit, being the vender and sports caster.

A few things
1. This is the grand story of redemption and growth of a hated weapon and ourselves and byf the way you present it vocally was capital A amazing.
2. Yeah there is some residual background chatter but I dont think it detracts because of the themes of us working together as guardians.
3. I don't know off hand if this was all destiny related music but my god... you captured the struggle of the in game story and the triumph of our ability to resist the ever present corruption fighting against us.
4. This is the final and Byf if you're reading this you reminded me why I love Destiny. I've hit a grind burnout after playing so much crucible this season to get Broadsword. But, now I am once again ready to fight for the light! Thank you!
The dynamic of lumina and thorn are quite poetic as when you think of thorn (generally not always) you think of I kind of lone gun/ outcast. And thorn is great if you’re playing alone. And when you think of lumina and being cleansed you think of something/someone returning home. Similar to how lumina is beat used in a fire team to quickly heal teammates.

for what lumina represents, I wish it was a little more powerful. like, if the buff lasted for 15 seconds and also healed you.

Random thought while watching the video, they should buff Lumina to where we can see teammates health bars. It would make it suuuuper useful to know who actually needs quick heals

Coming back to this now that I own the dlcs and late for the party. Holding Lumina in hand. Last Word, Ace, and Thorn in my inventory every time I play. I feel happy hearing this story over and over again.

I've been waiting for this video. Well done, lore daddy. Game-wise I hope Lumina is only the first of future noble weapons of light. Lore-wise, the the next steps to forging the dark into a tool we can use against the Darkness and its minions will be quite intriguing.
I love this. I actually went out to get Lumina because I wanted to help others. I know that's kinda cheesy but I remember playing a strike in which I decided I would use well of radiance. It was just me and this random hunter. I don't know why but I went really out of my way to keep him alive. To the point I would stand in front of him and act as a shield when I had nothing else to save him. No grenades, no rift, no well. He messaged me afterwards and told me that he's never seen someone so dedicated to the role of his teammates. Apparently he looked me up on WastedonDestiny and found out that I spend almost all of my time in the crucible.
I met up with him yesterday by sheer accident. And he saw me running into a strike, not using the crucible loudout before. Little did he know that he made me want to become a support role. And I decided to go out of my way for him once again. Lumina, Loaded Question, Phoenix Protocol, Max discipline, Max Intellect, double light reactor and fully masterworked gear. Love you random hunter. Love this video because I went out to get this weapon to be selfless. Makes me feel good about myself somehow, ya know?

When I was doing this quest, I already had an exotic as my Heavy weapon, so when my rose turned into lumina it just removed my primary weapon slot so I only had my energy and heavy weapons lol. Dropped my light by 120 points.

I think Lumina has some pretty good lore, but the weapon itself is a bit underwhelming. It's exotic perk isn't that good despicable it being the first support weapon in Destiny, the buff doesn't last long enough to do any good. Personally, I think it should have a separate perk you could switch the Blessing of the Sky with. Something that was more Dark themed but still staying true to the theme of Lumina.
Or if the buff stacked would improve it
It’s excellent. Healing aside, 8 seconds(Since 0 counts) of a 30% buff for yourself and another person is excellent. Also works with benevolent dawn. My preferred load out is lumina, loaded question, and wendigo.

I sometimes wish that considering this push toward using darkness using the original thorn would have been an option and we cleanse the weapon only by choice, truly pushing the idea of this thin Line, but this was okay too. Lumina is cool weapon when you running with allies, otherwise I’ll stick with Thorn and mark of Devourer #LongLiveThorn
My Awoken Hunter; he who was conflicted with such feelings and now walked down the light with his head held high, will go to the moon this October with the souls of those that impacted him and cleansed to guide him:

-Dredgen Yor: The Thorn; A weapon engraved in the names of Guardians of its power to take the light from any Guardian ...with just a few shots. Though I will feel his essence trying to tempt me ...to control me, I won't give in. Unlike him, I will use it to fight against the Darkness than fight against the Light.
-Shin Malphur: The Last Word; The Gun held by The Man with the Golden Gun. Now passed on to me. With his spirit flowing within the Last Word, I'll slay every hive and shadows with my Flaming Wrath.
-Drifter: Malfeasance, A weapon the Drifter had handed to us ...as a test to see if we can balance our control between the Light and the Darkness. Though when I use this weapon, I'll feel the emotion and fear The Drifter; originally Dredgen Hope, originally ...Wu Ming, has felt thanks to the shared story The Nine has given me. I'll use this weapon to cleanse the light and sever the pain the Drifter felt.
-Dredgen Yor(Purified; Lumina): The Lumina, a weapon of luminescent beauty. Originally the Thorn; purified. I shall slay every enemy while supporting my teammates, cleansing Dredgen Yor's darkness with each Noble Round.
Tbh I have seen you for a while I am surprise that you put me in the history not like other person's that just talk you put the music making us in the and feel it idk if I am explaining myself but long history short you just gained a new subscriber you really put time in this amazing lore of Destiny I really admire that
The story of Thorn and Last Word is the best lore in destiny. Hands down. It could be a movie. Makes me thing of the Good, the Bad and the Ugly in space. Fucking awesome
